Installed Android on stock windows phone

Hello,
I have been reading quite a bit here including all the stuff about ensuring that I don't brick the phone and which roms to install etc. etc.
Anyhow, I couldn't find any detailed threads about folks who might've tried installing Android on stock windows.
I went ahead and tried using it today and android did load up fine. Everything seems to work perfectly. The only issue is that the dialer freezes when I am dialing numbers and I can't hear anyone and they can't hear me. So I will try another android flavor.
What I wanted to confirm was that if I am using Android on default windows, is there a chance I can brick my phone?

Impossible to brick your phone because its just running off the mem card I've been running android on a stock rom for about a month now, just make sure you've got an appropriate radio version etc...

What version of the HD2 do you have? T-Mobile US?

I used my stock UK O2 172. ROM
1st HSPL
2nd Updated Radio
3rd Loaded Darkstone Froyo
I haven't had any probs and android is running fine.

I should've been more specific. Yes it is a tmobile US version.

I just recently go android working on my tmous phone using stock rom. I had to do the following to get it 100% functional
1) Install HSPL3 and flash the radio to version 2.12 (it actually said something like 2.08 in the HSPL app)
2) Flash to ChuckyROM lite
3) Copy darkstones Froyo 2.2 build to sd card
Thats it, everything works now. I had the same problems as you so I would take this route if I were you. Keep in mind that flashing to chuckrom is going to replace the windows theme you normally see when you start your phone. From there you can use the included Android launcher utility so you can then quickly boot up android instead of windows.
Personally I could care less what windows rom/theme is loaded since my goal is to convert to Android completely. Although I will say that I immediately noticed an improvent in windows overall thanks to the ChuckyROM tweaks. If you choose to run chucky isntead of android it's a nice breath of fresh air, much more responsive, faster, and logically laid out.
Couple of caveats:
1) Bluetooth phone use is a little wonky. For instance, sometimes when I'm streaming music to my car stereo and I receive a phone call, the mic shuts down and I cant place any more phone calls without rebooting, even though music streaming continues to function.
2) On occasion the touchscreen will lock up. All I have to do is hit the windows key to bring up a context menu and then close it, touchscreen starts responding again.
3) I've been running stable for 3 days, however the phone did reboot itself for no reason and get stuck once. I had to do a battery pull to boot back into chuckyrom/android.
All in all it's been a dream though and well worth the experience. Windows 6.5 is so utterly broken as a phone OS words cannot describe. I feel like I've been using Windows 3.1 on my PC compared to this. The few glitches in the Android ports are entirely worth the hassle, and very minor. And to think, it's only going to get better!

[Q] Boot Failure Black Screen Green HTC

Hi, this is my first post on this forum so first of all I would like to appolagise for all the things I've either just done wrong, or am about too....
I am trying to install android on to my phone, I am on the stock rom but have succsesfully installed HSPL3 and radio version 2.11.50.20.
I have tried a few builds of Android but allways have one of 2 results.
Once I've run clrcad followed by harlet, it tells me I'm booting to linux. The screen then goes black, it runs about 8 lines of code, stops there and changes to a black screen with a green HTC. Where it remains indefinatly.
A friend with anouther HD2 has android working fine on his device, and altho he has a custom rom he tells me its not essential, as ive read up on the potential risks I would rather stick with the stock but will change if thats whats causing the problem.
I would really appreciate some suggestions, thanks in advance for your time and help.

forgot to add, the second result is the screen going blue indefinatly, which I presume from my extensive knowledge.........lol is a blue screen of death

upgrade your radio, im on 2.12.50, and the newest is 2.15.50
also, try a modded windows mobile rom, i use standard energy with no issues.
also, make sure you only have that one android build on your SD card. and that it's a new build, not an ancient one. (check http://android.hd2roms.com/)
you shouldnt have any more issues.

Thanks for the advice, unfortunatly before seeing your post I uprgraded too chuckeys rom, not energy, but get the exact same error... Leads me to beleive the problem is elsewhere. Will keep trying tho hope its worth it.

A little disclaimer
I will not be for any damage that may be caused to your device, HSPL remove warranty so be carefull. Don't forget to have more than 50% of battery remaining before the process !
So, maybe here is the solution:
I've try again with differents roms, changing my wm rom etc. and nothing works.
But, at the end I've change my radio rom to Leo_RADIO_2.12.50.02_2 found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=611787
Then installed Chucky GTX Lite rom found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=618787
And to finish I've installed the bootloader and download MDJFroYoRevolution 1.4 with android 2.2
I've use the 512 Data img too (just unzip your MDJFroYoRevolution, take the 512 or 1Go file and put this file on your Android root.) isn't necessary but takes less time to work first time.
After that still not working so I managed to try to remove all files from my sd card (2Go only) and I put on ONLY MDJFroYoRevolution 1.4+512Mo Data img !
Then after 10mn~ it works !
I think the bug is only because sd card haven't enough space to create all files so the HTC logo stuck and no error message appear.
Don't forget to install the bootloader on your memory internal storage! and not the on the sd card!

Having the same problem here. I've tried different versions of WM, different Android builds, updated the latest radio rom, all without success.
Strange thing is though that Android boots the first few times, but after resetting it more than about three times it gets stuck on the black screen with the HTC letters in the middle. The only way to get it running again is reformatting my SD card (8G). Only thing on it is the Mdeejay Froyo Sense v2.3 Clean...

Solution for the freeze screen after second boot
I put android not in the root directory but in a \Android directory on the SD CARD.
of course, I add set cmdline "rel_path=Android" in the Startup.txt file and now i can reboot my phone when i want.

Always use the custom winmo Rom sugested by the Android Builder. Simple as. The myth of "Stock ROM will be sufficient" should end

Ive updated my radio to: 2.15.50.14
tried 3 roms.
before installing radio - I had the Kernal problem.
and now I have the black screen with green htc.
has anyone found a solution?
is their something that im not doing?

Not true. I've installed on a couple of peoples HD2's using the latest stock WWE rom with radio 2.15. It does work, and it works very well.
I'm not saying you shouldn't use custom roms, that is everyone's prerogative (as you can see from my sig I use VBN's rom and it's perfect for me).

Try to move a folder called Android from sd card to another folder or delete it and it should help. It worked in my case. Good luck!

I have tried many combos and radios and still stucked at green htc loading logo now i am just hoping for nand. strange thing its the volume down and end does not bring bootloader anymore.

I am new to XDA because I'm knew to the HTC HD2 T-mo USA. I like Win 6.5, works fine, but have the need to tinker. Seriously, have been researching how to install Android for about 12-14 hours combined. See plenty of guides that are not easy to understand, and then don't mention HSPL, etc. Could anyone help me safely install? I have loaded (but not installed) froyo sense 3.2 and dual boot loader. Everything appears to be okay, pressed clrcad, then hared and the HTC logo comes up??? I have not installed HSPL, is that the problem? A complete layman's guide would be very helpful. If I install HSPL can't I just remove my sim card to not lose contacts? Links to help, will probably not be helpful, I think I've read them all, as well as the rest of the Internet.

When you saw the htc logo how long did you wait for? If it's your first boot then boot time should take roughly 20 mins max. Unless you've downloaded a data image with the build you're trying out and placed the data image in the same android folder, then boot time should be faster. So if you didn't copy a data image file that you've downloaded, into the android folder, go into the android folder, delete the data image file that the system has created, and try to boot android again, wait for about 20 mins and android should be ready, complete the setup or not (DO not install any apps). Then reboot your phone, start up android again, then you're ready to go. HSPL does not remove sim contacts if i remember correctly.
The only problem with HSPL is the possibility of voiding your warranty.

First, thanks for your reply. In videos about installing, after people click haret, massive amount of script(?) start running, that just never happened. HTC logo comes up instantly, waited about 10 minutes, due to many people saying it took about 7 min. I was just expecting scrolling script/code(?)

It's okie, it's normal for current android builds not to show those massive amounts of scripts. If i remember correctly stock roms don't really bode well with android so i suggest you flash a custom rom. I would recommend you HSPL the device first however since HSPL is recommended for both flashing winmo and booting android, HSPL 2 or 3 will do. You can remove the HSPl by flashing a stock rom through sd card when you don't want the HSPL anymore.Your radio is okie i think, i'm not sure about the prerequisites for running android on a t-mo hd2 however.

Hi, the videos you have watched are of the older versions of android which showed all the script when launching linux. Now they are all nicely concealled under the HTC logo, if you want a nice safe build to get you started, try darkstones superRAM rom.
It loads itself onto your ram rather than running off the SD card, and also runs perfect on stock phones without HSPL.
Simply drag+drop onto your SD card then lanch CLRCAD+haret, and away you go.

No, you do not need HSPL, I use Android every day on the ROM in my sig, with regular stock SPL.
No robot voice, no SOD, everything works.
Just place the Android folder on the root (not inside any folders, just on the sd card) of your sd card, go into file explorer in WinMo, navigate to Android folder, press CLRCAD, press Haret, and enjoy Android. First boot can take 10-15 mins.

[Q] Freezing issue for the clever folks

Hello folks, I appear to have gotten into bother during a rom flash. After successfully installing a MAGLDR nand rom via CWM, the first boot of said rom just gives me the frozen splash screen without animation and the boot does not complete. Happens the same with three different roms.
I suspected somewhere further back in the boot process was at fault so I reflashed a known working radio rom, but problem still persists.
Despite a LOT of reading I can't see much about freezes at this point in the boot process on MAGLDR roms.
Bits that work - HSPL rainbow boot screen happily comes up, Task 29 works, magldr reinstalls and works fine, CWM perfect. Installs roms from SD (freshly reformatted) and appears to be ready to go, until boot actually begins then... splash screen freeze.
I have redownloaded various versions of everything to ensure no issues with corrupt files. I have also used different SD cards and ensured freshly formatted FAT32.
If it helps anyone, I have previously used NDT CM7 12.1 for about a month with zero problems.
Any other less obvious stuff I'm missing?
I'm off to bed so will be approx 7 hours from post time when I start responding. In the meantime I've put MAGLDR 1.10 on the phone so at least it can charge!

Installed OzRom Winmo 6.5 via the tried and trusted CustomRUU method, and it appears to work perfectly. What is winmo doing that android nand roms don't? I assumed if there had been bad blocks on the nand the much larger windows mobile rom would have covered this, and thus failed on boot.
At least opens the door to using an SD build till I can troubleshoot. Odder and odder.
Forgive my ignorance, but if the CustomRUU flash method still works for me, are there any modern android roms that don't need MAGLDR or clk?

How long have you been leaving the ROM on the boot screen? A first install of an Android ROM can take anywhere up to and over 15 mins for first boot. I also remember one when installing a hyperdroid ROM I had to restart the phone once to get passed boot splash.
I'd recommend flashing a popular ROM, leaving it for 20 mins, restarting and leaving another 20 mins. What do you have to lose? Just remember magldr doesn't have charge while off capabilities!
Also check your partition sizes and layout (you have to edit flash.cfg for magldr builds, partition sizes depend on the rom you pick but will be specified in the ROM thread).

Thanks for the reply. Each time I left the rom on the boot screen for a good half hour, and in one case an hour. I have installed NDT 12.1 and the newer v16 successfully before, so I know what sort of timescales are involved. I also had a go at an earlier Typhoon build. Naturally I used only the recovery sizes specified in each rom's own thread, using versions of MAG/CWM specified there, and Task 29 beforehand.
I have an update to all this, however. Previously I said Winmo installed, but now it is bugging out to all hell. This might fit my "bad blocks in nand" hypothesis, perhaps the files covering the bad area are less critical than the ones in each android build, and Winmo just crosses its fingers and tries to boot anyway!
In any case, if I can get an SD android build running I'll cut my losses and stick with whatever works.
Cheers again, hopefully this random screed of info will help people. Seems to be if all else fails, try winmo.

none of Nand android roms are working

Hi, problem, i have tryed now 3 different android nandr roms, typhoon, miui, and diff versions of them. everything installs like it should acording manual, but when it loads, then it takes like 1min to do something in the phone, ant it freezes...
so any ideas what this could be ? i have t8585 leo ir some kind of this model, in EU.
it sucks that shows like its no chance to have android in my hd2..

Check one of the guides, you have probably missed something like radio or loader/rom combination

Have you got the right partition size? Also, what do you mean by 'freezes'?

first i have tryed the typhoons rom, this was told to have radio Radio Leo 2.15.50.14.
and i have it.
freezes ? it means it stops, only thing you can do is take out battery. and shows like same what kind of rom u use it boots it freezes in about 2min of looking at the phone, also ugly thing with this magldr, some times it loads, some times it not "go go go" and nothing happens... so any sugestions what i'm doing wrong ? i mean i was go with instruction manual step by step with thyphoons cm7 rom. clean install with this task29, DFT_LEO_MAGLDR113_DAF, and Recovery_150M_system_5M_cache[v3.0.2.5] . every thing installs like manuals says.. but when you boot your android, it dont work.. htc hd2 leo t8585 any thing i can do more ?

What about hspl? And which typhoon cm7 version did you try? You can also use hd2 toolkit to start again but you will have everything in one GUI.

Sounds more like hardware to me, especially once I read the line about magldr not gogogoing.

i'm doing everything about thyphoons pdf manual says.
1. HSPL 2.08.HSPL installed
and i have it.
but shows for me this DFT_LEO_MAGLDR113_DAF is not working properly..
go go go go and then stops...
or Recovery_150M_system_5M_cache[v3.0.2.5] android this one... feels like imposible to have android.. takes like 5hrs now im with my phone... i mean i had no isues with wm6.5

no its not.
this magldr is working until the recovery Recovery_150M_system_5M_cache[v3.0.2.5]
is installed, i can make this usb flasher it works every time.
after i install this clock recovery something. feels like this something is instable...
ok, i make me more clear.
in the magldr i click ad recovery after instaled that, it says go go go ant stop.. before it was running... no its not runing, should'n task29 clear everything to zero in the rom ?

i took out my sd card.
and now im browsing almost 10min with wifi, can this memory card be so deffective to freeze , and what kind of atachment it has to android os ?

Radio 2.08.50.05 + task29 and it updates radio to wrong version ...

try EasyAndroid. It has everything to cleanly install a ROM. use Task29 to wipe the rom. it'll help you install HSPL3, the correct Radio, and MAGLDR. Then start from there.

Without SD card it is working, had couple times freeze while browsing, I am very impressed with speed of Droid, feels like everything 2times faster compared to Wm 6.5
Where I can discuss about browser issues I have a problem in a site I need to use, it has advanced textbox, and its not poping up keyboard, have tried many browsers, in wm6.5 ucweb browser was the onlyone working and giving the keyboard when I click the text box.
UPDATE.
Found a solution for browser textbox issue. Long pressing the "windows" key on phone, manualy pops up the keyboard, and i can type in default android browser.
Today i'm flashing stock rom, and giving my phone to warranty. Heat is the freezing problem. I was testing outside, it was lasting much longer. but in the room temp, it was freezing while browsing, or playing games, feeling it warm at the bottom, then i need to wait about 30min, to boot the phone and it works again.. Hopefully warranty will fix it

I m sure I got 2.08 hspl, and 1.13 Mag. I gonna try this today.
