Installed Android on stock windows phone - HD2 General

Hello,
I have been reading quite a bit here including all the stuff about ensuring that I don't brick the phone and which roms to install etc. etc.
Anyhow, I couldn't find any detailed threads about folks who might've tried installing Android on stock windows.
I went ahead and tried using it today and android did load up fine. Everything seems to work perfectly. The only issue is that the dialer freezes when I am dialing numbers and I can't hear anyone and they can't hear me. So I will try another android flavor.
What I wanted to confirm was that if I am using Android on default windows, is there a chance I can brick my phone?
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks

Impossible to brick your phone because its just running off the mem card I've been running android on a stock rom for about a month now, just make sure you've got an appropriate radio version etc...

cool..thanks for your response..
also, what do you mean by the radio version? I basically installed, http:/ /forum.xda-developers.com/s howthread.php?t=740963
that's all i did. Do you mean to say I have to install a radio version separately?
Thanks

What version of the HD2 do you have? T-Mobile US?

I used my stock UK O2 172. ROM
1st HSPL
2nd Updated Radio
3rd Loaded Darkstone Froyo
I haven't had any probs and android is running fine.

I should've been more specific. Yes it is a tmobile US version.

I just recently go android working on my tmous phone using stock rom. I had to do the following to get it 100% functional
1) Install HSPL3 and flash the radio to version 2.12 (it actually said something like 2.08 in the HSPL app)
2) Flash to ChuckyROM lite
3) Copy darkstones Froyo 2.2 build to sd card
Thats it, everything works now. I had the same problems as you so I would take this route if I were you. Keep in mind that flashing to chuckrom is going to replace the windows theme you normally see when you start your phone. From there you can use the included Android launcher utility so you can then quickly boot up android instead of windows.
Personally I could care less what windows rom/theme is loaded since my goal is to convert to Android completely. Although I will say that I immediately noticed an improvent in windows overall thanks to the ChuckyROM tweaks. If you choose to run chucky isntead of android it's a nice breath of fresh air, much more responsive, faster, and logically laid out.
Couple of caveats:
1) Bluetooth phone use is a little wonky. For instance, sometimes when I'm streaming music to my car stereo and I receive a phone call, the mic shuts down and I cant place any more phone calls without rebooting, even though music streaming continues to function.
2) On occasion the touchscreen will lock up. All I have to do is hit the windows key to bring up a context menu and then close it, touchscreen starts responding again.
3) I've been running stable for 3 days, however the phone did reboot itself for no reason and get stuck once. I had to do a battery pull to boot back into chuckyrom/android.
All in all it's been a dream though and well worth the experience. Windows 6.5 is so utterly broken as a phone OS words cannot describe. I feel like I've been using Windows 3.1 on my PC compared to this. The few glitches in the Android ports are entirely worth the hassle, and very minor. And to think, it's only going to get better!

Does the HD2 screen become less responsive over a period of time?

I'm finding my HD2 quite frustrating at the moment. It infrequently, but randomly, locks up, and only a battery pull seems to rectify things (I always forget about the little red button), or it slows down to a crawl, for no apparent reason. I am also finding that the screen is becoming less responsive, which is particularly annoying when typing messages. I literally cannot type a short text without making several mistakes, and I don't think it's me, as it wasn't like this a few weeks ago. Has anyone else noticed this happening? I also have an iPhone, which I use occasionally, and currently find it much easier to type on than the HD2.
TBH I don't know what you're talking about, I never had mine slow to a crawl. It's probably the ROM you're using or some application you're running, try using UnOff because I have been using it for months and never had any issues with freezing.
It's a stock ROM, as I've not had the bottle to try to change it.
It's very simple, install HSPL, plug your phone into your computer via USB, make sure Windows Mobile Device Center is conneted with the phone, extract and double click 'HSPL3_PKG' choose SPL 2.08. Flash a new radio from here I would recommend 2.12.50.02_2, connect your phone in the same way as you did for the HSPL, Extract the .nbh file and the 'Custom_RUU' (also known as 'Leo_SoftwareUpgrade.exe') double click the 'Custom_RUU' and follow the on screen instructions. Then trawl through the many ROM threads, find one you like the look of and install it in the same way you did the radio.
I've attached an RUU, as I know the 2.12.50 radio doesn't have one bundled with it, it's kinda like the .exe file used to access the .nbh file, you use the one file to install both radios and ROMs so it's worth keeping it rather than deleting it.
Just make sure you upgrade the radio after flashing the HSPL, your radio is a x.xx.51.xx_x and you need to have a x.xx.50.xx_x or you won't be able to boot the phone after you flash a new ROM.

Thanks for that. What if I used a ROM from the HTC website? Would I still need to change the radio first?

No you wouldn't need to then, but it's essentially the same flashing process, just so you know.
The reason you need to flash a .50 radio with custom ROM's is that the vast majority are based on the U.S. ROMs, and just aren't compatable with the international T8585 HD2.
*Edit* Unless of course your are from the U.S. in which case you'd already have a .50 radio installed and you wouldn't need to flash a new radio.
No, I'm in the UK. Thanks, that's useful to know.

[Q] HELP unstable radio / network

Hi folks, Basically I want to be able to use both WinMo and Android (SD) but can't find a stable solution.
I have upgraded my WinMo to 3.14.xxxx and so the Radio is also updated too. But when In Android I get a lot of freezes etc when doing network stuff (sometimes in Weather, mostly when downloading apps in Market).
I have tried various Radio's and Rom Versions, but it still isn't very un-stable.
Currently my Radio is 2.15.50.14 - which should be fine with Android.
My last clear down last night I did the following.
1) dropped my Win OS back to 1.72... (so I could load HSPL for Task 29)
2) loaded HSPL2
3) ran Task 29
4) loaded 3.14..... (but obviously HSPL is still on)
5) removed HSPL back to SPL delivered
6) loaded 3.14... again so I could get SPL 3.03...
Then I tried Android and still it frooze :-(
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks in advance
Tony

Are you saying your Android is more stable with WP7 as the base?
Although I say WinMobile is more stable than android, its not totally stable.
For example I just finished a call and then the phone rebooted.
any other suggestions?
is my phone defective?

Unless you need a dual boot, then go for a Android nand build, slow to boot, but there are now some fast stable nand builds. I recomment the version in my sig, but version 1.4 will be rekleased soon try that. Its a full nand install, simple instructions, and ofcours if you don't like it just task 29 and choose something else

Thanks

First flash will take a while, like 5 minutes, but after that it takes a minute or less for my phone to boot. Its actually quite fast.

[Q] Need Help - Android snag

Hi all - I'm in a bit of trouble.
Tried changing the OS to Android and must have made a mistake somewhere along the line.
Was using ROM update utility MAGDLR V1.13 and got as far as updating the ROM Was told that the screen should go black and if it didn't, then I needed to perform a reset.
I did this and now the screen just shows the htc logo on white background.
Irish phone - got it august '10. recently upgraded ROM from HTC site to version 3.14.405.2 but not sure now whether I've wrecked it completely.
Was just sick of WinMo and wanted a change - can anyone help please?
ND
boot into bootloader and start again. do you have hspl? right radio?
get into bootloader. flash magldr. then flash nandroid.
you probably need to downgrade the rom to get to hspl 2.08
Thanks - I got the correct HSPL and installed it on the phone, that part was fine. The problem now is that the handset isn't even acknowledging when it's plugged in. And when I connect via USB, the computer isn't registering any connection to it.
I think it's toast! The only thing I can see is a white background with green htc lettering i.e. welcome screen
Thanks for getting back to me, any other ideas?
Will I be able to reload original windows back on by myself?
Try windows 7 XP sucks doing this kind of stuff

Thanks very much for the response. As above, the handset is completely unresponsive - it's not even showing a "charge" when plugged in.
Any help greatly appreciated
Many thanks

Can you get to bootloader?
(power on while holding vol. down)........
If so, get to bootloader then connect via usb. The word serial at the bottom of the screen should change to USB. This sometimes takes a few minutes (for me anyway)
Once it reads "USB" flash a WM6.5 Rom in the usual way.......
If you cant get to bootloader then theres a good chance you've somehow borked your device......
Thanks everyone and in particular jsmmcabe and conantroutman
I got into bootloader and I'm trying to reinstall the windows os from there.
will let you know how I get on,
thanks again guys - lifesavers
I should have mentioned that flashing a stock 6.5 rom will wipe HSPL.
If you flash a stock rom then you will need to reinstall HSPL before attempting any MAGLDR/NAND shenanigans... (sheNANDigans?? see what I did there )
If you flash a custom ROM from XDA then your HSPL will be ok......
Also should have mentioned the age old "NO .51. radios on a tmous" advice.........
Good luck.......
Well after all of that I went to Pirate Bay, downloaded an Android 2.2 file, copied it onto my SD card and ran it.
Hey presto, I have an Android Phone!
I cannot begin to tell you how much better it is. It's fast, it doesn't freeze, the whole interface is much cleaner and easier to use.
SNAG ITEM:
Tried doing the same with a friends phone and when activating the copied files from the SD card, the thing just hangs and I have to reset the phone.
Any idea why it worked on mine and not his?
Same phone, bought in Ireland, a week apart. Different mobile operator networks though..... I'm Vodafone, he's O2 - weird, no?

Could be its not booting because of an incompatible radio....
must be above 2.08.50..... you can find this info in settings about phone...
Also, why download android from the piratebay???
Everything android related you could possibly need is here on XDA.
Personally Id be suspicious of anything from a site like that. Theres no way of knowing whats in that Rom. I would change to a well used and trusted build from XDA if I were you.
Theres no exact science to getting this running on different phones, what works for one may not work for another......

How do I know if I can flash my HTC HD2? (touchscreen not working)

Hi!
The touchscreen of my phone almost doesn't work. I've read many topics about this in different forums and maybe a solution would be to reinstall all from 0 (resetting the phone with that yellow button when you revome the back doesn't work anymore).
So, I want to try to install android hoping this will solve the problem. If not, my phone will be a thin brick in a drawer.
Since the touchscreen is not working correctly, I can't go to see the details in the menu.
The phone was flashed once and currently has a rom called BSB beast 6 and when I turn it on, this red numbers appears:
2.10.50.26
15.39.50.07u
2.11.86834 8g
Current OS is Windows Mobile 6.5
I believe android will work with the current rom without the need of installing another one before, right?
Would recommend me one rom (android NAND) to put? because I saw a lot in thread here and I don't really understand what the differences would be. I just want the phone to work
I hope this is enough information
Thanks a lot!
If you want to flash Android what you need to do is...
Make sure you have 2.08.HSPL (I'm assuming you do as you have a custom ROM).
Then flash the newest radio (2.15.50.14)
Flash MAGLDR
Flash a NAND ROM of your choice.
Though I doubt that will fix the problem. Your digitizer is probably gradually dieing. You can easily get it fixed for about $80.

Hi, problem, i have tryed now 3 different android nandr roms, typhoon, miui, and diff versions of them. everything installs like it should acording manual, but when it loads, then it takes like 1min to do something in the phone, ant it freezes...
so any ideas what this could be ? i have t8585 leo ir some kind of this model, in EU.
it sucks that shows like its no chance to have android in my hd2..
Check one of the guides, you have probably missed something like radio or loader/rom combination

Have you got the right partition size? Also, what do you mean by 'freezes'?
first i have tryed the typhoons rom, this was told to have radio Radio Leo 2.15.50.14.
and i have it.
freezes ? it means it stops, only thing you can do is take out battery. and shows like same what kind of rom u use it boots it freezes in about 2min of looking at the phone, also ugly thing with this magldr, some times it loads, some times it not "go go go" and nothing happens... so any sugestions what i'm doing wrong ? i mean i was go with instruction manual step by step with thyphoons cm7 rom. clean install with this task29, DFT_LEO_MAGLDR113_DAF, and Recovery_150M_system_5M_cache[v3.0.2.5] . every thing installs like manuals says.. but when you boot your android, it dont work.. htc hd2 leo t8585 any thing i can do more ?
What about hspl? And which typhoon cm7 version did you try? You can also use hd2 toolkit to start again but you will have everything in one GUI.

Sounds more like hardware to me, especially once I read the line about magldr not gogogoing.
Does it get hot?
i'm doing everything about thyphoons pdf manual says.
1. HSPL 2.08.HSPL installed
and i have it.
but shows for me this DFT_LEO_MAGLDR113_DAF is not working properly..
go go go go and then stops...
or Recovery_150M_system_5M_cache[v3.0.2.5] android this one... feels like imposible to have android.. takes like 5hrs now im with my phone... i mean i had no isues with wm6.5
TyphooN_CM7_v3.7.0-MAGLDR
and 3.7.2

no its not.
this magldr is working until the recovery Recovery_150M_system_5M_cache[v3.0.2.5]
is installed, i can make this usb flasher it works every time.
after i install this clock recovery something. feels like this something is instable...
ok, i make me more clear.
in the magldr i click ad recovery after instaled that, it says go go go ant stop.. before it was running... no its not runing, should'n task29 clear everything to zero in the rom ?
hm,
i took out my sd card.
and now im browsing almost 10min with wifi, can this memory card be so deffective to freeze , and what kind of atachment it has to android os ?
ok i found maybe the reason is im using to clean my rom
Radio 2.08.50.05 + task29 and it updates radio to wrong version ...
try EasyAndroid. It has everything to cleanly install a ROM. use Task29 to wipe the rom. it'll help you install HSPL3, the correct Radio, and MAGLDR. Then start from there.
Without SD card it is working, had couple times freeze while browsing, I am very impressed with speed of Droid, feels like everything 2times faster compared to Wm 6.5
Where I can discuss about browser issues I have a problem in a site I need to use, it has advanced textbox, and its not poping up keyboard, have tried many browsers, in wm6.5 ucweb browser was the onlyone working and giving the keyboard when I click the text box.
UPDATE.
Found a solution for browser textbox issue. Long pressing the "windows" key on phone, manualy pops up the keyboard, and i can type in default android browser.
Today i'm flashing stock rom, and giving my phone to warranty. Heat is the freezing problem. I was testing outside, it was lasting much longer. but in the room temp, it was freezing while browsing, or playing games, feeling it warm at the bottom, then i need to wait about 30min, to boot the phone and it works again.. Hopefully warranty will fix it
