[Q] odin to froyo 2.2!?????? - Fascinate General

This may sound like a very dumb question but i am just now getting into the different things i can do with my phone. One of which is i have rooted it and installed clock work manager. I have seen A LOT of people talking about odin and using it to install froyo 2.2 on their phone. I was just wondering how you actually go about getting odin on your phone, or is it something installed on your computer to transfer files to your phone? my main objective of all of this is just to have froyo 2.2 finally installed on my phoneso if anyone could please give me the run down on this and the info i need to install 2.2 on my phone, or a web page that shows you how to install it once i have odin, it would be greatly appreciated!!!

Odin is a program used to flash .tar files (modem, kernel, system) onto your phone while in download mode.
A little poking around here (I would link you but I'm at work) and you will find the Samsung Drivers, The Odin program itself, and recently someone posted Odin files for 2.2
If you have the .zip of 2.2 (or Superclean 2.4) all you will have to do is flash the eb01 modem in Odin, then install the .zip file through CWM.
Follow ALL instructions in the threads you find to the T or it will be a pain in the ass to get your phone back.

Remember: When using Odin NEVER USE THE PHONE BUTTON. We use the PDA button for the Fascinate.
PDA = Good
Phone = brick (that's bad)

If u get the eb01 sc Odin package...it comes with rom obviously so u don't flash anything in cwm. However... future roms you want will b flashed in cwm. All u do is boot into recovery, instal zip from sd cars, choose the zip from sd card....select it...and hit ok

No i completely understand what you are saying that is why i am doing my best to take anyones advice who might know more about this than i do (which is probably everyone). is there anything out there than can just give me a step by step as to what to do in the safest manner to accomplish putting 2.2 on my phone? because so far the closest i have came is receiving a E:failed to verify whole-life signature along with a E:signature verification failed message trying to install the update through clock work manager thanks for your help and advice

Ok, easy way to get froyo... go in the fascinate develpment section of xda or droid forums and look for ODIN eb01 package. It will load you up froyo, new clockwork, and root your phone all in one shot. The directions are super easy, just follow them exactly. I did mine this way, you dont have to mess with clockwork at all, ten minutes total. Let us know how you make out.

downgrade epic to 2.1

I recently instaled 2.2 on my epic and I heard what sprint said today about it and its not the official froyo build. I used odin. Is there any way to get the epic back to 2.1? I want to be able to receive the update via ota

Why not just search for the stock di18 zip and flash it? No need for Odin. Exactly what I did.

So I would just need to put the update (I actually have it) on my sd card as update.zip and install it as an update just like I did with dk28? I apologize for being very fail at knowledge.
Easy method i use and worked and removed root/clockwork... with out odin..
For you those going back to stock or are stock and u flashed 2.2 and want to downgrade or resort back to stock use this method.
Rooted/clockwork users skip the first step...
1. Do the one click root/clockwork/etc Here
2. Flash the d118 modem Here
3. Then Flash the zip file Here
4. Then flash the get rid of clockwork zip Here
5. Your are back to stock without using odin yay!!!
Now all links work!!! and added a step use this method to return to stock with out odin.

Sorry to double post, just wasnt sure which threads you were checking, but in step 2 when it comes to flashing the modem updater file it wont work, i can install the kernal and rom fine, but the modem gets an "installation aborted" in clockwork.

This will not, however, update your modem back to DI18, anyone have any ideas?
When I went from dk28 bac to di18 I used odin, make sure you have samsung mobile phone drivers, when I downloaded the dk18 tar file the first three times odin said bad mp5 file..I closed odin opened it again, downloaded the exact same tar file and it worked the fourth time. Make sure the f.reset button is deselected and you don't need a pit file....hope this helps

Just bought brand new BELL galaxy s i9000M

My question is , how can I backup the contents out of the box to a .tar file that i can load up in the pda section of ODIN in the future if needed ?
The phone is baseband I9000UGJK4 kernel 2.6.32.9 and build froyo.ugjk4
I would like to have a permanent backup on hand of this before I change the os on it if I decide to do so or mess something up lol
So again , question is how can I back this up the the .tar file like we download from samsung for future flashing or restoring? Thanks guys
Strange that your phone came with JK4, since this version has been pulled from kies by Samsung.
I think you should upgrade to JL2
It came from futureshop just today , do you know how I can backup the contents to a .tar before I start changing things?
Update immediately to JL2. Don't load any other firmware until you have done so. This is important! Your likelihood of getting an internal SDACRD failure is very high until you do.
Important that if you use Odin, you select the flash boot loader option.
Strongly agreed. Use Kies (Samsung's official app) to FIRST do the upgrade. If anything happens during the upgrade, take it back immediately to the store for an immediate replacement (how long ago did you get the phone?).

I agree with gtg2, DvTonder and zorxd. Upgrade to JL2 with Kies A.S.A.P. JL2 can prevent the dreaded dead internal SD card issue so many people are having.
Install Kies, plug in the phone, and update the phone.
When Kies is downloading JL2, it will go into your temp directory. Copy it to a different directory. I did and I have the original JL2 on my computer for when I need it.
If you can't get it off your computer, you can download it from here.
Ian
OK done that last night , bought it 2 days ago. Updated through KIES last night so now that worry is over. I cannot find the temp folder you say I should have the downloaded firmware in though , nothing in c:/windows/temp or in kies folders
Here this is stock JL2 just flash it with odin in PDA.
JL2.
You can find odin instructions in Allgamers Thread here.
One thing you might want to consider is rooting your phone, if your on JL2 use Super One Click located Here. Another Method to get root access would be to flash Hardcore's kernel odin versions and installation instructions Here. Once Hardcore's Kernel is flashed then just boot into CWM (VOL UP+Home+Pwr) and find root in the menu. I recommend going the Hardcore Kernel method just cause from there you can go to Doc's/Darky's/Seearm's or another custom rom of your Choice.
Once rooted get Root Explorer or equivalent file explorer and make a backup copy of the EFS folder . Store it on your PC somewhere. If anything ever happens and you need to return the phone to bell just flash the JL2 I linked with odin and you will be back to stock.

why would you back up Jk4 it is broken version, I am surprised they Samsung still put it on the phone...please please upgrade to JL2 as soon as convenient and that backup
Now to answer your question, im not really sure if you can make a backup tar that you can flash later with odin. I think you're trying to do something like an iphone backup that saves everything, files and settings, even the background you had on your phone.
What i do is keep a copy of the stock firmware from samfirmware.com and then i make a backup using the app "titanium backup". You can find a free version and a paid version. Before i flash a new rom i backup everything and then copy the titanium backup folder from the internal sd to my computer, flash and then restore all user apps and settings. Flashing a new rom has never formatted my internal sd card so the folder is always there, i just copy it to my computer just incase. Ive been told not to do a restore of systems apps and settings on doc's rom though, not sure why. Maybe another user can clarify.
Lastly hold onto the receipt with your life because you will at some point in time end up with a dead sd card I recommend doing a stress test (does not void your warranty). Go to the thread here for stress test info.

build is SCH-I500.DL30
baseband isS:i500.04 V.DIO1
To use Odin, you need to get into download mode. Turn the phone off, pull the battery, hold the volume down button, plug in the USB cable while continuing to hold the volume down button. Phone should now be in download mode and Odin should pick up the device (assuming you had the drivers installed as well already). When flashing anything via Odin, be sure to use the PDA button.
The issue sounds like you just need a new modem flashed to the phone, or downgrade your ROM to whatever version the baseband is. Personally, if you want to stick with Froyo, you should upgrade to EB01. It doesn't really fix much, but at least it has a modem available.
EDIT: Your issue is the DI01 baseband and DL30 build. I'd say update to EB01. If you want to stick with stock, go with DL09 and update to the EA28 OTA.

Yea, I just rooted a Vibrant the other night. That was no problem compared to this...
I dont think you guys are following me. I got this phone last night already rooted and running DL30. I DID NOT FLASH IT MYSELF. I cant get into cwm to do anything and odin gives me the message i posted a few posts ago. I have the drivers installed.
When your phone is plugged in and Odin is open, does the ID:COM field show anything? It should turn yellow and display the COM port your phone is connected to. Also, you are clicking the PDA button and selecting the file you want to flash, correct? Your process should follow this: http://goo.gl/TEv2T and if you want to flash a full image (ROM/Kernel/Modem) it would take the place of the modem tar file, but it would still go under the PDA button.
re what imnuts posted (I was drafting a similar post when his popped up)...
I have experienced issues with the usb port not working correctly. If the Odin ID:COM field is blank, you might have a usb problem.
Does the phone allow you to mount the sdcard using the Samsung drivers? If not, odin won't work either.

I'll second that. I was skimming through this thread to see if anybody actually helped you with your issue rather than just saying "google it, n00b" and other such bs like that.
People are right, there *is* a lot of information to be found in these forums, but some people have lives and don't follow every single post in every single thread. I miss my days in iAudiophile.net where when a member had a legitimate question, the least we could do was to post a link to another thread for them to follow.

Softbricked My Vibrant

Hi, I searched the forums and can't find an answer for my softbrick. I was trying to push a recovery file into system/bin after i changed recovery to recovery.bak. I clicked R/W when I pushed it, but when I looked again it was still R/O and the recovery.bin i pushed was 0.00kb (guessing it didn't go through). After, I tried booting into CWM Recovery and now I'm stuck at the Samsung Vibrant screen when you first turn on the phone.
Sorry if this is in the wrong forum. Thanks for any help.

Look in the Bible.

You need to get into recovery and Odin back to stock and go from there. Look for the Bible and read all of it, that saved my phone a million times. Good luck!!

If you turn her off then plug in a USB cable connected to a PC while holding both volume buttons and the yellow screen comes up, you win. Just read up on using Odin. Otherwise try a jig. I hear Irish works best.

Also, I searched the forums and the Bible and shiz for both the .pit and .tar and only got one hit that lead to a discontinued link.
Am I doing something wrong or are the .rfs/.lfs files correct? Can anyone lead me to a good download for the .tar? (Google and samsung.com are useless... )

Apparently I'm just an idiot. I extracted the first .tar file I had and that's where I went wrong. Thanks again.
Ran into another wall -
My phone was rooted when I softbricked. After I Odin'd, I couldn't find superuser. I tried using superoneclick again but its failing at

Supwiddit? Also, is it true that 2.1 Eclair is terrible?
I'm gonna Kies update to 2.2 then try superoneclick again.
I'll keep y'all posted (I know the anticipation is just killing you, right?)
EDIT: Update was successful, superoneclick was again unsuccessful. Got the same error as said above. Any ideas?
EDIT2: I got it, forgot to unmount the sd card -_____- thanks again for the help guys

2.1 is eaasier to root, just put the update.zip on the phone, go to recovery, reinstall packages and done
Here are the two files, update is the superuser, and update clockwork is recovery.
1. Put the files in the root of your phone storage.
2. reboot to (Stock) recovery
3. reinstall packages, you are rooted.
rename the update file to something else, and then rename the clockwork file update. Repeat the above steps to install Clockwork Mod Recovery
View attachment update.zip

As long as you are on JFD 2.1, and have not Kies Mini updated to Froyo yet, you should be Shiny. If you did update, I would try the modified 3eRecovery installer again.

[Q] Fascinate stuck on SAMSUNG logo, no idea what to do

So I was never into rooting phones I never really cared that much and my friend said it was really awesome so he rooted my phone then never told me anything to do with it so I seriously didn't change a single thing. I also guess he didn't mention you can't reset factory settings which is what I did and it is stuck on the samsung logo. I searched for this and read the "flash odin" that means zero to me. I absolutely have no idea what any of that is, can anyone help me? Thanks in advance!
Alas, I don't have any links to give you, but hopefully I can clarify what you need to do.
Odin is simply a program that is used for flashing software to your phone. All you do is download said program, as well as a recovery file and a PIT file (which is what is used to repartition the phone's internal memory). Your safest bet is to download the DL09 package, which will get you back to the stock android 2.1 that your phone came with. From there you can run your phone's system update to upgrade to the current version. There are instructions on how to flash through Odin, so I won't go into that. What you'll want to look for, though, is a full odin package, which means that it includes EVERYTHING, and you won't have to flash the system, radio, modem, etc. separately.
Hopefully that clears things up a bit. I was in the same boat as you recently.
EDIT: The most important thing to do is relax. I know it's scary to get such a bad error on your first crack into rooting, but Odin makes it REALLY hard to brick this phone. It's a little intimidating at first, but once you start flashing through Odin, no android issue will phase you.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1026746 This is the thread I used when I screwed up my Fascinate. May it serve you well.
Ok, you will definitely be able to get out of this situation. Try this link https://docs.google.com/document/d/1cZAF3hzDIHSMEkf0QcFs2cLLrF5PmOUEXcM268FoIzk/edit?hl=en&authkey=CKqWypcP for some basic info. Look through these forums/internet and download ODIN (any version should do). Find a link to the DL09, ED01, or ED04 odin files for the full rom and a link for the atlas_v2.2.pit file. Make sure the samsung usb drivers are installed on your PC for your phone. Pull the battery. Open up ODIN. plug in the usb to your computer and phone. Hold down the "volume down" button until a yellow android comes up for your phone that says "downloading". At this point ODIN should turn yellow in the first box. Click "Pit" and select the atlas_v2.2.pit file. Click PDA!!! and select the rom that you downloaded. Hit "Start" and wait about 5 minutes until ODIN turns green and tells you "success". Disconnect the USB. Put battery back in. Boot up and hopefully you should have a stock phone back. All of your settings will be gone and you may have to OTA upgrade to the latest ROM through verizon, but all your data on the SD card will still be there. Good luck!

I would recommend against the ED01. That's a leaked ROM, and if you ever need to send your phone in for Warranty, they'll know you were up to no good. DL09 and OTA update is usually the safest bet.

EB01 was the leaked Froyo ROM. ED01 was the first official Froyo build released from verizon/samsung. Since then there has been official upgrade builds of ED03 and ED04. The newest, ED05 is a leak. So no problem flashing ED01. I personally prefer to flash DL09 then let the phone OTA to ED04.

And that, kids, is why you don't post on XDA before your morning tea - you forget how to read! My bad - I stand corrected.
