Hi, when entering text on the touchscreen, if you click the small keyboard icon at the bottom you get a choice of input methods like Transcriber, Keyboard, Phonepad... For me, when I click Phonepad it just brings up the regular QWERTY keyboard, not the nice chunky Phonepad skin that 2003 used to use for T9 input. Anyone got this same problem or is it just me?
I've never had a 2003 device, so I'm not sure if it's the same as 2003 or not, but I definitely get a phone pad type thing when I click on phonepad with my Jasjar.
HTH,
Brett
Is it the same Phonepad you get with the 'Keyboard' option from that menu, or is it a sort of 3D modelled effect numeric keypad only with the T9 alphabet on the number keys?
If the latter, anyone any idea why mine isn't?
It's definitely different than the Keyboard option and it sounds like what you're describing... a sort of 3D phone dial pad thing with a couple of extra buttons thrown in (arrows mostly).
I have no idea why yours isn't working... as much of a pain as it is, maybe try a hard reset? I had a problem getting my LED to notify me of new mail messages... it seemed to work for everyone but me. Finally I gave in and did the hard reset and it's been working fine since.
Brett
Just as I got it all how I like it!
Is there a good, free, backup program out there for WM2005?
Ok this is weird, it wasn't working, then I messed with some of the Phonepad Options (changed language, unticked boxes, etc.) to try to trip it into life, and it worked!
Then stopped working
Back to just Keyboard now. Any other ideas guys? Maybe a registry entry that tells the device what applet to call upon to show the input method?
Mine is very dodgy too. It works at times and then at other times changing to is simply causes the standard keyboard to appear. I *think* it's a memory issue as I've found that closing all applications through the task manager, then changing the input method to Block Recognizer and then back to phone pad sometimes works.
I've tried more than one hard reset without any luck...

Glad its not just me. Damn that memory issue!
Try to make Phonepad als default
Same Problem,
no memory Problem.
Try to make PhonePad als default SIP. It works fine on my MDA Compact (Marican) GERMAN T-Mobile
But when i switch back to Keyboard it will hang.
Somewhere on this site's FTP ftp://[email protected]/ there is a phonepad application you can download. I did and it re-installed the program which then worked. You could try that. Good luck!
I had the same problem and used the a quick fix for it disappearing found somewhere on the forum,
something along the lines of do a reset
go into contacts
choose phonepad input method
and it will display correctly until next time it goes wrong.
However upgrading to the latest rom it has never disappeared for me yet.
03 has no such keypad. Not on my XDA2 anyway. There is a 3rd party app called Quickey though which does the job reasonably.
I think the problems with the phone pad entry has been fixed in the last 2 software updates from O2 - are you still on the old versions?
I had the same problems when I first got my Exec but not had any issues with it for a while now.
Smiffy.
Has anyone found the fix to the phone pad issue? Been around in the FTP site but do not find the phone pad application. Any kind souls to help?
there is no fix for the keypad issue i looked and looked and looked the only way i got it to reappear was by upgrading to a new rom it still wouldn't appear with any other rom previous to aku 2 either but now i am running on summiter's aku 2.2 rom for my wizard and it works great and the phone pad is there
Is there an solution out there?
I have the same problem with my htc p3600.. the phonepad does not appear...
Solution Found
I have a solution and it works for me...
1)Switch off any devices like WiFi, Bluetooth, and for the moment disable any start-up applications (from starting) - To minimize system memory usage
I have done it with SPB Pocket Plus. It can disable any start-up application becuase it starts in "safe-mode"...
2)Remove CF and SD storage cards - There have been some bugs reported for storage cards where they may drain system resources if too many applications are loaded on the cards.
3)Select the default keyboard as the default input method - To temporarily prevent other input methods from being the default method
4)Soft reset the device
5)Open an application like Notes/Word
6)Select Phone Pade as the input method by clicking on the screen's bottom right icon's arrow and selecting Phone Pad from the list of available input options.
7)You should be able to use Phone Pad in all other applications as well as switching on WiFi and the start-up applications.
For me works fine, after soft reset !!!
Please try this solution.... and give us feedback!!

Hello, I have had Wizard for a long time. Some time ago I purchased new O2 XDA Stealth phone (with slide numeric keyboard). There is the possibility to use the numeric keyboard for writing i.e. SMS's quickly when selected SIP eZiText. But there is a bug in eZiText and the support is terrible. So I decided to try to install IntelliPad from HTC to this device. After soft-reset it works normally (it means tapping by fingers to the screen). But do you thing that there is any possibility to make this to work with my hardware keyboard together as well? Somewhere has to be some buttons mapping, but I am not an advanced programmer and do not where.
Or is there any other SIP which could be usable with O2 XDA Stealth instead of eZiText?

Please let me know also, I'm having the same issue. Could you let me know where I can find Intellipad from HTC ? Any specific link ?
Thanks
Try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1062820&postcount=2
but note that this is only software SIP, that will be shown on the screen and does not cooperate with the hardware keyboard :-(
I have tried sip change but I can't get phone pad to work on the trinity.
It has worked a couple of times and when it does it is great. As other members have said it is more likely to work if you go from keyboard to transcriber and then to phone pad. When I installed spb diary it stopped working completely and so did calligrapher, which had been working fine. I have now remved the spb diary today screen plug in and calligrapher has started working but whatever I try I can't get phone pad to work ever .
Swede claims to have this working http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1097471&postcount=25
but id definitely doesn't for me.
It seems like the problem is a combo of OS, additional software (definitely spb diary) and maybe other factors
Does anyone have any ideas or a suggestion for a different T9 input program (not tengo!)?
Thanks for any help
yeah, set it as default SIP with SKTools, works everytime.

Hi,
please where can I find your PhonePad version? Has it all languages? If you can please post it to [email protected]
THX
I have the same problem. Works fine for a while, then it refuses to switch to the phone pad unless i soft reset, it just keeps reverting back to the keyboard.
I havent tried setting the default SIP, as I want the keyboard to be the default SIP, i just use the phonepad for text messages.
I haven't figured out if its clashing with any of the other software I have installed, (I have so many). Its annoying me though!
I have a similar problem...i can see the option of phonepad in the sip menu, but whenever I choose it it switchs back to keyboard...in fact I've never been able to get it to work.
Someone had me download a program called sipchange and its an app that makes it so you can change the preferred sip but even then it still goes back to keyboard...
Here is what I'm thinking could be a problem...
Right now, I have smart dial (since this is an HTC phone) but other than that, I don't have a keypad with numbers on it...so maybe I need a file somewhere with a pic of the keypad (1-0 a-z)
Does that make any sense?

damn i'll try on hermes too ....and on my artemis ....
but in my ce emulator it also didn't work fully correct....
sometimes i just get black buttons....
It works on my Trinity (WM6) but not the symbol page. But I'm ok with it. Like the 'intelligence' of this over T9, but the scroll left and right (on screen) button is a bit too 'small' and near the edge for ease of scrolling. If that can be fixed, it will be even more perfect.
no good for elf
when i set in french language they a are no letters on keypad
thank you
Anyone manage to 'perfect' this beta version?
While it is useable, without the symbol can pose some inconvenience when you need the symbols.
It works fine on my touch. To get the symbols in blue you press and hold the key. It takes a little getting used to so you don't end up with .. but it does work.
For those getting blank screens, this should only happen when you bring up the keypad without selecting a text field. Meaning if you are in a selected text box the keys should display.
Another bug I found was if you install this keypad and then choose another one that you have installed (pocketCM, HTK, etc), it will not display any text. It's like you are typing in white. The cursor advances, but no text displays. I had to un-install this keypad to get my other input methods to work.
It may sound a little obsesive, but I timed myself using this new touch dual keypad and my pocketCM skin (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1597831&postcount=21) and every time I was able to type faster and more accurate with the pocketCM version. It was close (1:11 vs 1:08) for a couple sentances. I'm glad to see HTC putting a real finger operational keyboard on the Touch, but for now I will stick with pocketCM.
works on the mogul, install, soft reset...

Nah man, that's a great idea. I think a "type-off" of sorts is a good way to determine what's best; although everyone has difference preferences, I think 90% of us subconsciously type the same.
any status on a new version that works a little better?
thx.
e..b
working on Hermes!
Its working fine on my Hermes WM6. Still get the blank buttons when trying to use it outside an application. But within application (e.g. Onecontact, IE ect..) all working fine. Even symbol key is working fine.
Its a great keyboard (esp. the T9 version)...First keyboard where the buttons are large and responsive (iv used sooo many now!).
btw...dont forget to softreset after installation before use!
No symbols
I get all the characters and numbers but the symbols are all blank. I am in the UK. Otherwise it's okay. I personally don't like PocketCM because unless there is lots of free memory it just pops up the default keyboard for me.
is there any way to turn the xt9 off i used the keypad for 5 mins adn when i switched to the normal keyboard the xt9 was still there.. can it be turned off?
^^yeah I found that incredibly annoying, I LOVE this keyboard but I had to uninstall it because the T9 would be there even when using the hardware keyboard!
Can anyone post any pics of this keyboard?
Yeah...T9 still there on hardware keyboard is really annoying!
Hi all!
I bought the Touch Dual last week and since then have been doing tens of installs/uninstalls to check what apps are out there etc (AE Button Plus was one of them).
I remember when i got it I could enter both TEXT and numbers from the sliding out number pad. I used the *XT9 button to differentiate between ABC, abc, XT9 - text input methods.
Now pressing the *XT9 buttons doesnt do anything anywhere - all i can enter with my kaypad are corresponding numbers.
I must have removed/unchecked something in the settings, but what?
Thanks in advance!

Yes!! I too had that problem... It seems that after installing about 5 apps, this will happen. I hard-resetted about 5 times now and i still dont know what exactly causes this trouble
I have the same problem too.. I've posted it under this link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=384160
Does anyone know how to solve it?
Solved
Fixed it. The alphabetical input from the hardware 16-keyboard is back in SMS/Word Mobile/Texting programs!!
Just go to Start > Programs > PDA Settings > ROM Settings > Enable T9.
This makes the hardware *xT9 button allow to switch between ABC, abc, #12, T9.
PS: Im using this ROM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=364335). The problem occured after I was using the above ROM for a while, and it was fixed without reflashing anything.
Hope this helps!
Callix
is there like a registry fix for this problem instead of flashing an entire rom?
@sebastlim
there's no need to reflash anything. with my Niki Project 6.1 ROM, when the problem started, i just went to Just go to Start > Programs > PDA Settings > ROM Settings > Enable T9.

Yes, but that options is only available on that rom, others dont have it
And even doing that doesnt change anything on my niki rom.
Until I turned it off and back on again. D'oh!
Problem with physical slide out keyboard and soft input panel keyboards
I have a 20 key version touch dual and had this problem as well - and unlike the other posts, I had not installed any additional apps. The WM 6.1 version CE OS 5.2.19716.1.1.0.
Here is what is happenening:
1. The slide out physical keyboard will type only the numbers when the numeric keys are pressed. The alphabet keys on the sides q/w, a/s, z/x, o/p, ,/l etc only input the first letter and dont cycle on to the second letter [eg only q comes up - you cannot bring on w] and the xt9 stops functioning. Pressing the alt or sym/*/xt9 key does nothing other than typing up *.
2. The two soft input panel keyboards (touch keyboard 20 and touch keypad 12) revert to a qwerty keyboard and dont switch to a xt9 mode.
3. I tried using the Start-->Programs-->PDA Settings-->>check T9 option. It works but erratically. Often, it reverts back when the PDA is turned off and on [not soft reset]. When I go back to PDA settings and look, the T9 option is checked and yet the behaviour was non T9. I checked off and checked on T9 -->> works again. Sliding out the physical keypad seems to preserve the xt9 most of the time. Erratic..
I will try to install the fix from HTC
the difinite solution
Check whether PCM keyboard is installed and if yes, uninstall it. The problem will be solved!
If you install the appropriate version of EzInput (found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=426281 ) it should re-enable your hardware keys.
Good luck!
