Completely different...gsm phones can't work on cdma networks and vice versa. No amount of programming is going to get it to work. They're both different technologies.

My cdma telus milestone takes a sim card, but I have found a better answer on another site.
Thanks for the try though.
Um, last I checked, Telus uses GSM, not CDMA. I also don't think there is such as a thing as a CDMA Milestone. Well, there is, but it's better known as the original Droid. If you have a Milestone that uses a SIM card, it's a GSM phone. In any case, Verizon's Fascinate will not work on Telus.

Umm, last I checked from Telus' website, they offer both cdma and GSM. Meaning that you may be correct about my milestone being GSM. Furthermore, I guess my question would be invalid either way. Thanks
Telus has CDMA and HSPA networks. The Telus Fascinate is HSPA and uses SIM cards. While they share a name, the model number for the Telus Fascinate is T959D, making it more akin to the t-Mobile Vibrant.
Not only that but the physical dimensions of the phones are not even the same so they can't even really share accessories.

Yeah...that's why I was checking. You said verizon fascinate...but nope. There is a telus thread in here.
Hmm, they maintain both CDMA and HSPA+ networks? Bizaare. Well, I stand corrected on that, but I still don't know if the Verizon Fascinate will work on Telus or not. I would imagine the effort necessary would like trying to get a Fascinate on Sprint's network, which is next to impossible unless you've got an inside contact who is willing to activate it for you. There would most likely be some radio hacking involved too.

It is a verizon fascinate that I want to use on the telus network.
Why do you specifically want to use a verizon samsung fascinate? It should be possible because when I go to canada, I roam on telus and bell. But you can't just pop in a sim since there is no sim in the verizon fascinate. So you would have to find someone who is both willing and able to activate it for you. Personally if I was on telus, i'd opt for the international galaxy s.

I know it's weird lol But I'm getting this phone for like 10$, thats the only reason I'm willing to go through the hassle, otherwise I would just stick with my Milestone.
I've actually cancelled the order. Turns out the phone was a stolen phone, and to re-activate it, I would have to change the ESN number, which is possible, but I don't want a stolen phone.

Well what do you mean stolen, like out of a store or from a person? if its the latter i would buy it for 10$ and try and find the original owners

Hi,
Sorry if this is already posted elsewhere. I did a search and couldn't find a definitive answer. I was just wondering if I were to get my x10a from Rogers unlocked, would it work on Bell or Telus?
yes it would work with Bell or Telus
Really? Those useless Telus reps I called can't even confirm to me that the phone is able to run on the Telus network. I even told her I had friends that had this phone on the Telus network. -.-
Oh well! Time to get mine soon, hopefully. Sigh. Long way to go!

I had a LG chocolate from telus before my x10, and I know it didn't have a sim card, I don't think any telus phones have a sim card... I have never tried to set up a phone from another carrier into telus, mind you, I just know that you can't bring a telus phone to another carrier that uses sim cards, because there isn't one.

i think people have trouble with updates without using the authorized dealers.
You are better off with rogers even it is expensive.
im using the x10a from rogers on bell right now, got it unlocked and it works perfectly. =)
Use X10a on TELUS, work perfectly.
Make sure you enter the right APN information for the data connection.
TELUS runs on UMTS/HSPA 850MHz, 1900MHz.
X10a supported 850MHz, 900MHz, 1900MHz, and 2100MHz
been with all 3 canadian carriers in past year. i must say rogers is not only marginally cheaper then the other two, but are more "with the times" .
bell is just horrible, they seem to think the iphone 3gs is the latest greatest phone......riiiggghhtt... bell and telus both have horrible cust service..
sorry to vent but instead of going through the hastle of putting a rogers phone on a crappier network....just switch!!. and as of this month rogers 3g speeds are over double what i got with telus and bell...

I'm using an x10a I got from Rogers on the Bell network. It works fine after you unlock it. After you root it, it gets rid of the Rogers splash screen as well. The only catch is you have to manually input Bell's APN or your 3G won't work.
The only reason I stuck with Bell is because of a deal I got through retention to renew my contract. I wouldn't be able to get anything if I sign up new to Rogers. Which begs the question, why was I with Bell in the first place...

So I've done a bunch of researching and I want the pros opinions.can I clone my evo info(msid amd the such) to my eris and have it run? itd be a great back up phone! As usual any help or knowledge is much appreciated!
I believe Sprint is GSM and Verizon is CDMA so their networks aren't compatible so you wont be able to use the eris on Sprints network.
Oh, i could have sworn sprint was GSM, guess I should make sure of these things before I go posting them.
I don't want to sound rude but have knowledge of the subject before replying please. Sprint and verizon are cdma technologies. Att and tmobile are gsm. Hence the sim card....thankyou all the same dude....

The answer is, from beginning to end, changing carriers via changing ESN's is illegal in most places, and, as a result, has no real place on this forum.
I don't know if there's a section around that relates to changing ESN's for other purposes, but this kind of activity is not condoned, supported, or even allowed by posting rules to be posted here.
The Eris, technically, has all of the hardware and software necessary to run on Sprint, Cricket, and most other CDMA networks. Each network keeps close track of what Serial numbers it will allow to operate on their network. So to answer your question, yes it is possible, but no it is not legal, and the details of the procedure (which I have no idea) are not going to be easily found here, and this thread will probably be closed, bearing the introduction of such a discussion.
I'm surprised how many useless threads people start these days.
Its amazing to me that something like this would be illegal. Where has our freedom gone?
flashing to a different carrier isn't illegal. Only ESN changing is. Flashing to a different carrier is quite possible. However, its easiest when there are identical phones on two different carriers, that way you can just flash the firmware from one to another. Also, the provider has to be willing to accept it. Verizon for the most part will accept phones that aren't produced by them, same for MetroPCS and Cricket. Sprint, and Cellular South will not. I believe I covered the major CDMA carriers.
For those that are confused. Flashing to a different providers firmware on an identical phone does not change the ESN. It just provides the new providers network information and roaming list. Case in point. I used to own a Moto Q9C, I flashed it between Cricket, Verizon, and Alltel on a monthly basis, depending on where I was going and who had the best coverage plan. ESN was never changed. Since those providers openly allow outside devices.
I'm on my eris now, I would like to take it to cellular south and I know a tech that would activate it, however, I'm not smart enough to change all the correct settings to get it to operate on their towers (would be very simple if THEY sold an eris, I could just grab eris firmware from one of their devices.)

Thanks, at least someone on this thread knows what they're talking about.
Changing ESNs is illegal because there's pretty much no reason to do it except to clone other people's phones (essentially stealing their accounts).
Changing ESNs would be like rewriting the magnetic strip on your credit card with someone elses.
Your problem is weather or not Sprint will let you register the ESN on their network. The phone is compatible. Verizon is keeping track of their ESNs. If a phone isn't one of their's they won't let it on thier network. I don't know about Sprit, but it's problable the same. So you are probably out of luck.
FYI, the diffence in a Rom displaying Verizon or Sprint it just in a text file. I has nothing to do with the running code. Many of the Eris 2.2 ROMs are a port from the Srint Hero. Someone just didn't update the file.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=730289&highlight=cricket
This may help if you have not seen it, I flashed my eris to MetroPCS with this.
Thanks to viogrep for bringing some sanity to this thread.
If you want to explore a little, and you have the 1.49.2000 S-OFF bootloader on your phone, see
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9878143&postcount=8
You can have your bootloader dump your "mfg" partition to your SD card for inspection with a hex editor.
I'm no carrier-flashing expert, but I think that this "mfg" partition is pivotal in storing the carrier and PRL settings.
bftb0
PS The above mentioned thread also gives instructions for custom-booting Amon_RA so that you have privilege and access to any of the other "hidden" partitions on the phone.

r2d2 is cdma only but if you traded it for a droid 2 global then you could. As far as VZW not having any phones with gsm... that isn't true. Any world capable phone has gsm capability. Though the D2G will need to have the baseband unlocked with a hack.
The international devices are cdma and gsm both. However verizon and sprint do not use the gsm.... But the other 80% of the world does, thats why its global. If your in the US and want to use a sun then you gotta go to at&t, tmobile, and they're affiliates.

I'm not sure about that. ROM shouldn't matter too much, you just have to have it SIM unlocked and I believe it won't work too well due to the different frequencies between carriers and so you may not get LTE or something. Maybe someone can correct me though.

Verizon/Sprint phones use CDMA.
ATT/T-Mobile use GSM
I don't think you can use a CDMA phone on a GSM network and vice versa.
EDIT:
Per the replies below, it looks like it ispossible.
Here is a thread from the Verizon forums.
Also, if this WIKI page is correct, the Verizon S4 has both CDMA and GSM radio's where the ATT S4 only has a GSM radio.
The first thing to identify on the phone is whether or not it is on the stock AT&T ROM and what version that ROM is. If it is I337UCUAMF3 then changing the bootloader/kernal/rom is not even an option to begin with which means there would be no way to change out the modem to support other carrier bands (such as those used by Verizon). On top of that, although I have heard that the modem hardware is the same on all versions of the S4 I have not heard anyone confirm that they have successfully enabled CDMA services on the I337.

The strange thing is you can use a Verizon S4 on AT&T but you can't do it the other way around. Verizon phones all come unlocked, allowing you to use the phone anywhere around the world.
The AT&T S4 does not contain the CDMA chip allowing you to use it on the Verizon network, plus it has to do something with IMEI. If you give the IMEI to Verizon, they won't be able to locate which device you are trying to activate because it's not in the system. But if you use a Verizon S4 and put in a AT&T SIM card, you don't have to register the IMEI with AT&T or T-Mobile.
