I bought my Vibrant back in September and for the first month or so I did not modify it at all. I would use if for everything movies, music, ebooks, Facebook...etc. I was satisfied with it.....so I thought. Then I got the OTA JI6 update and like alot of people I started having problems. So I looking into what I could do to enhance the phone performance. First I started looking on youtube and found some videos how to use odin, root and lagfix. Needless to say it sparked a huge interest in me. Eventually I found XDA fourms and this small obsession exploded. It was all about flashing from then on. I wasn't even using the phone for videos, music and books anymore. It was all about what new ROMs were coming out. I noticed a increased level of performance but never actually utilized the full extent of what I was doing cause all I cared about was flashing.....until about ten minutes ago. I hadn't loaded an ebook since I started flashing and lagfixing. Originally it would take like a minute or so to load the book but when I loaded one today I was like WHOA... I was blown away by who fast it loaded. It loaded in seconds. I just wanted to give a big thanks to all the developers cause with out you this phone would have been a useless POS.....and to everyone else donate, donate, donate cause they deserve it.
PS: To all the trolls, if u can't do better stop running ur mouth.

I have read through all of the "issues" threads and there seems to be a lot of inconsistancy except for the gmail widget(I don't use it anyway). Has anybody had marked improvements over 3.0? Any less FC's or SOD's?
I ask because I am very happy with my Tf so far and am kind of reluctant to install.
So far everything seems basically the same. I didnt lose my widget but my gtalk application keeps saying its lost connection to the server despite it being on a known to be reliable data connection and actively surfing. Not sure if thats really 3.1 though.
Its better for me. Did not lose gmail widget; YouTube is much better; Browsing seems better. Need to play more to see what else, and validate better browsing.
The battery seems to stay longer than before (with the dock), i have charged it this afternoon till around 2pm and up till now (10:45pm) it is still at 100%, with no light flashing from the keyboard dock battery indicator.

Yeah I should note that the youtube app plays videos well now.
I only had a few hours with 3.0 but 3.1 is nice. There are a few FC issues and that's it.
I've had a few issues with 3.1... primarily that my TF seems to randomly reboot when sleeping. Its annoying.
But, its well worth the fact that youtube runs great and browsing has been better. Primarily youtube though, old firmware youtube was absolutely embarassingly bad. I didn't want to show my friends my sweet expensive gadget that couldn't play a video
So far no bad issue.
Not sure about this gmail widget as i do recall seeing one before. But my unit want to update to 3.0.1 when I got it.
What I have noticed
1. Better browser behavior
2. more controls on browser when set to appear.
3. Video playing is much better. I watch a podcast before 3.1 I could not watch there HD videos. Know I can.
My honest opinion is that this was a step in the right direction but it better not be the last step. Though youtube app is playing better and more controls in the browser, expandable widgits are good there are still issues. There's little hitches in general from time to time and flash still doesnt seem like it plays all that well. Overall it's a good step but not the super improvement some of the reviews have stated.
Videos play slightly smoother but still not silky smooth. I've tried encoding the videos many many times with both baseline (yes even baseline) and high profile handbrake presets from another thread, but the video still lags compared to playing the same video on my desktop. Is anyone else facing the same problem or is it just me?
I still don't have the dock update which is a bit more critical in my book since I sold my laptop. Typing in the browser just stinks. I'm glad I'm a fairly accurate typist. The tablet itself seems a bit snappier. Videos play a bit smoother. I just want my typing speed.
High profile h.264 playing, smoother UI. I never got any SOD's anyway. And so few FC's that its tough to tell if that's better so soon. I'm _very_ happy.
I do still want a little more, E.G. it looks like there is mkv container support in 3.1 but the file extension isn't plumbed in for some reason. I'd also like a portrait mode for the market.
So after theupdate i figured id start freah and did a facrory reset
Ive notcied my boot up time tobe faster.
Doesnt hang on the asus logo for long anynore
I'd appreciate others adding to this thread as they install 3.1 in the coming days. I'm also 100% satisfied with my TF and don't want to start getting frustrated. I've now read reports of wi-fi dropout, random dock disconnect, decreased battery life, and random reboots after 3.1. I also use the Gmail widget a TON, so I'm a bit worried about losing that...
Thanks for the reports everyone!
video performance is far superior
hdmi support is far superior
Browser is a bit more flaky
a little concerned about the quadrant drop especially where it hags on the database test.
all in all worth it, but hopefully not the end.
I just replaced the Gmail widget with the email widget and added in my hotmail
You can get the gmail widget using muliple methods if you lost it in the update, stop being so damn lazy and look for the method and THEN complain about it.
Browser speed and inbrowser scrolling is much worse after the 3.1 update

In what way hdmi is supperior? It was working ok before here with the exception of too much cuts in the edges of the screen.
Does the stock music player workokay for you guys after the update? Some have said it stops when the screen is asleep. I guess it doesn't go to the next song right away.
This is a general discussion to share your opinuin about your x10 after the updates and (((bravia engine ))) .....And at the same time i would thank our devs and SE for what they did for us ...
I'm realy happy with this update...and i was on fire waiting for it till my friends became calling me "GINGERBREAD"......
fast and stable, my xperia is live again

good question ...
anyway i removed timescape and a process called event stream and it's pretty fast now .. seriously.... try using customized stock rom maybe you'll feel the difference ... good luck
Well done SE ..
Awesome ROM ..
No lags after 1-2 hours of flashing it..
Super Smooth..
Super Fast..
Awesome Camera !!
Yay !!!
the music playback is making me an unhappy little boy right now..
and the ugly ass timescape..
other than those i feel good with this update
currently waiting for root (not preroot) that's all
Advantages:
a) apparently better battery (it would drain faster before GB).
b) I'm running Wolf's bare metal hotfix 3 with FPS uncap - and is definitively smoother than stock 2.3 and previous 2.1
c) was able to root quickly after the official update went out, thanks to the devs!
d) I can use hacker's keyboard!
e) Skype mic works!
Disadvantages:
a) music player stuttering (playerpro or built in player, its not dependent on the player). When doing some CPU intensive tasks or when CPU reduces speed after screen is off, the music hicks up for a bit. Not that annoying but is there. With stock 2.3 it was very obvious, now very rarely with Wolf's ROM.
b) home button is a bit lazy (meaning that on 2.1 the screen turned on faster when pressing home button, now its a bit more slow).
c) WiFi 2.1 still not fixed (takes ages to connect to a hidden SSID up to the point where I made the wifi sleep policy to be always on to avoid frustrations). No big impact on battery life though.
But since X10 mini connects in 10-15 seconds to the wifi, I believe its a big bug in X10 since it's the same setup I connect both.
d) Camera still slow for my tastes (compared to N8 at least) and they did not fix the auto-flash, you still need to fiddle in the menus to turn it on.
Other than this - the phone is old now but just became decent - fast enough and with better battery thus I will keep it a bit more.
I was tempted to switch to Samsung/HTC and avoid Sony for a while as I don't want to risk again to wait 1 year for an update (actually Sony should beg for my money, not I should beg Sony for an update once I payed). So probably I will go to HTC, seems they were always taking care of their customers.
Yep, the music player interrupts music for half a second when going to lockscreen or something...Cant this be fixed by making the priority of the music player higher?
Stock ROM was lagg in menu, but Wolfbreaks custom ROM with tweaks is Smooth
without words, i sick of multi orgasms after update D:!
Im unhappy:-( check my sig \/

Soundlags and overheating (45 degrees) when listening to music. X10 is unusable for me after update because listening to music is the main reason why I switched from my mobilephone/iPod combination so a smartphone.
Sent from my X10i using Tapatalk
Let Gingerbread build caches for a few days and you will definitely feel the diffrence! It's now much smoother then when I flashed the ROM. I also got alot of apps installed.
The music app's a bit dissapointing...it looks great but the equilizer are just presets and aren't configurable, and there are lag spikes when unlocking, and there is no way to repeat your playlist and shuffling is retarded.
That said the sound quality is excellent, much better than 2.1, so it's not terrible but could be better.
i want the miui 2.3.4 music app that trip uses it in his roms
Edit : Same as this : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=929727
I am happy. The update transformed Xperia into a much better device. As with any ROM there might be a few bugs but to me they are well within the norm.

Hello all Hero lovers, since i switched to Aeonflux my battery life is going crazy, i mean its going great, more than i expected, i used my phone over two days now like crazy and its still at 78%, how can that even be possible? Lot of wifi, calls, texts, facebook browsing, i mean i had the xperia x8 and it was so bad, love my hero, definitely. Only thing i need since i don't want to loose sense is this damn youtube "Sorry, this video cannot be played" for hd videos, is there any workaround for this thing? I mean in 2.1, in 2.2 and afterward we can always touch on the HD icon and video plays at lower quality.
Press play on the video, turn the phone to landscape and uncheck the HQ icon at the top right of the screen. The video will then play on your hero.

The most annoying thing about my phone is the battery, and i guess that's the reason why they call Android phone battery killer. As for the youtube video, you can follow the #2, it works well on my phone

78% after 2 days?? I have aeonflux too but after 15 hours time it drops below half.
That is really strange. Don't know anyone wit that good battery life in hero.
It`s possibile.
But don`t use it anytime. My hero with elelinux rom drain battery in 48 hour about 25% with just 5 min calling in this time.
First of all, this thread is intended to compare people`s opinions only, pls keep the critic levels down please as people work very hard to make us have this freedom of changing roms in our devices
I`ve fot my GN few weeks ago and in this time I could test some different Roms, including tw based ones, some of them are good and stable, but there was always some detail I didn’t like (even some icon, im very picky for this), im a fan of simply and functional though, so in my opinion the winner till now according to my experience is cm9 nightly, below im explaining why:
1- The whole system has 163 megas agains almost 1 g from many others
2- The appearance is awesome, extremely similar to Nexus UI
3- It runs smoothly, fast and is pretty customizable
4- All my apps from the past TW roms works, i`ve just went to my google play account, checked my apps, swiped to the left, saw all my previous apps and installed them again without any FC till now (4 days already running cm9, installing new apps everyday and nothing)
5- Google maps and navigation working fine for me (even my external gps sygic working)
6- The music equalizer is awesome and functional.
7- No need to root, u can change any settings on the phone easily (don t recommend it if you are beginner though)
8- The Motorola atrix tv out effect when locking the screen is really cute, also the lockscreen is more functional than the TW one.
9- The battery life is really comparable to the GB, I went home yesterday with 79%, played till 12 am with the phone and came back to work today still reading my news on it with 8% juice. It started to charge today around 9 am on the usb and in 3 hours it has 55 % (phone on and wifi syncronizyng everything)
10- Camera works really fine
Cons:
1 fm radio doesn’t work ,so what? With 5 bucks u buy an mp3 player with fm radio and saves the battery from your phone, smartphones are not still made to listen to music on them.
2 loud speaker bit broken, so what? My phone conversations are private anyway, the normal mic works fine and I don’t have a car, if yes, I would go for a Bluetooth car device. However, it works on skype calls, im a foreigner living in Europe and my family is in brazil, do u think I would call them out of skype? So, perfect for me.
3 no touchwiz, thank god? S pen doestn work, but u can write notes if u want in any other note app, I personally always write my notes using the speaker writer or the keyboard as my calligraphy is horrible and I don’t draw, so what?
Not ota updates…hmmm, fine though
what about you?
short answer: CM9 because.. it's CM9
Add to the cons:
No MHL output support
Limited USB OTG support
Limited HD video playback support
No S-Pen framework. (S-Pen pressure sensitivity goes away, button on the pen doen't work, and no S-Pen gestures)
I am currently on LPY, using Apex launcher. It's not the best experience to be sure, however, at least everything works. I'm really interested in giving the Paranoid Android hybrid ROM a whirl, but seeing as it is based on CM9, I'm assuming it still has the same bug list.
Don't get me wrong, I LOVE AOSP/AOKP/Hybrid builds, but I don't think I'll be using any of them as a daily driver until almost everything is working, or at least the important stuff. For me, on the Note, in order of importance, I would say my priority list would go something like this:
S-Pen framework stuff
Full hardware accelerated HD video playback (incl. 1080p)
USB OTG
MHL output
I really hope that devs are able to make this happen!
point
u got a point there for sure depending what a daily driver means for you, in my case even 5,3" inches is too small to watch videos how much minutes it takes for your battery to die watching hd videos with lpy? or seconds?
I was between go back to some stock rooted GB because of the battery but decided to give it a try to cm and im enjoying, there is also this bricking witch problem with the lpy, so i prefer to wait till i get smth safe or stick to cm9, at least is safe.

Well i see that you're CM9 fanboy but Jade Eyed is so right in every thing.
If i want to have Vanilla i would buy Nexus (and it was cheeper anyway), i love my Note for every other aspect that Nexus doesn't have!
I love to draw on my Note, i love my big screen where can i watch movies on my night shifts, and i can watch 3 hole 2h movies before my battery die!
I love my OTG and my MHL support my Note has limiltless storage with my 64 GB usb stick in my pocket!
Vanilla Android is faster then Touchwiz?! Says who?! Note will destroy any phone in any benchmark even on GB!
I love my Note because it isn't Nexus. And it isn't like any other phone. And now i'll downgrade him to Vanilla Android to take away half of his functionality and apps?! Tnx but no tnx.
Cm9 nightlies ,reason is speeeeeeeeed and stability ,I've tried official GB and ICS, they were too slow and laggy for me, and kept reminding me of just how much faster my stock GB s2 was compared to the note .
But after cm9 it's safe to say that the note is as fast as an s2 .
ParanoidAndroid is the best! It is a rom that makes our notes big screens most useful (; you all should at least try it!
