[Q] Who is happy with the 3.1 update? - Eee Pad Transformer General

I have read through all of the "issues" threads and there seems to be a lot of inconsistancy except for the gmail widget(I don't use it anyway). Has anybody had marked improvements over 3.0? Any less FC's or SOD's?
I ask because I am very happy with my Tf so far and am kind of reluctant to install.

So far everything seems basically the same. I didnt lose my widget but my gtalk application keeps saying its lost connection to the server despite it being on a known to be reliable data connection and actively surfing. Not sure if thats really 3.1 though.

Its better for me. Did not lose gmail widget; YouTube is much better; Browsing seems better. Need to play more to see what else, and validate better browsing.

The battery seems to stay longer than before (with the dock), i have charged it this afternoon till around 2pm and up till now (10:45pm) it is still at 100%, with no light flashing from the keyboard dock battery indicator.

Yeah I should note that the youtube app plays videos well now.

I only had a few hours with 3.0 but 3.1 is nice. There are a few FC issues and that's it.

I've had a few issues with 3.1... primarily that my TF seems to randomly reboot when sleeping. Its annoying.
But, its well worth the fact that youtube runs great and browsing has been better. Primarily youtube though, old firmware youtube was absolutely embarassingly bad. I didn't want to show my friends my sweet expensive gadget that couldn't play a video

So far no bad issue.
Not sure about this gmail widget as i do recall seeing one before. But my unit want to update to 3.0.1 when I got it.
What I have noticed
1. Better browser behavior
2. more controls on browser when set to appear.
3. Video playing is much better. I watch a podcast before 3.1 I could not watch there HD videos. Know I can.

My honest opinion is that this was a step in the right direction but it better not be the last step. Though youtube app is playing better and more controls in the browser, expandable widgits are good there are still issues. There's little hitches in general from time to time and flash still doesnt seem like it plays all that well. Overall it's a good step but not the super improvement some of the reviews have stated.

Videos play slightly smoother but still not silky smooth. I've tried encoding the videos many many times with both baseline (yes even baseline) and high profile handbrake presets from another thread, but the video still lags compared to playing the same video on my desktop. Is anyone else facing the same problem or is it just me?

I still don't have the dock update which is a bit more critical in my book since I sold my laptop. Typing in the browser just stinks. I'm glad I'm a fairly accurate typist. The tablet itself seems a bit snappier. Videos play a bit smoother. I just want my typing speed.

High profile h.264 playing, smoother UI. I never got any SOD's anyway. And so few FC's that its tough to tell if that's better so soon. I'm _very_ happy.
I do still want a little more, E.G. it looks like there is mkv container support in 3.1 but the file extension isn't plumbed in for some reason. I'd also like a portrait mode for the market.

So after theupdate i figured id start freah and did a facrory reset
Ive notcied my boot up time tobe faster.
Doesnt hang on the asus logo for long anynore

I'd appreciate others adding to this thread as they install 3.1 in the coming days. I'm also 100% satisfied with my TF and don't want to start getting frustrated. I've now read reports of wi-fi dropout, random dock disconnect, decreased battery life, and random reboots after 3.1. I also use the Gmail widget a TON, so I'm a bit worried about losing that...
Thanks for the reports everyone!

video performance is far superior
hdmi support is far superior
Browser is a bit more flaky
a little concerned about the quadrant drop especially where it hags on the database test.
all in all worth it, but hopefully not the end.

I just replaced the Gmail widget with the email widget and added in my hotmail

You can get the gmail widget using muliple methods if you lost it in the update, stop being so damn lazy and look for the method and THEN complain about it.

Browser speed and inbrowser scrolling is much worse after the 3.1 update

In what way hdmi is supperior? It was working ok before here with the exception of too much cuts in the edges of the screen.

Does the stock music player workokay for you guys after the update? Some have said it stops when the screen is asleep. I guess it doesn't go to the next song right away.

Very disappointed

I'm pretty disappointed in the Xoom so far. My Droid X seems to perform better than it, despite it's single core. Is there hope for the following issues? I don't want to return my Xoom, but I'm just a tad upset spending so much on it...
These are the problems I'm having:
Slow downs using YouTube app
Slow downs on home screens and app drawer
Poor browser performance on all browsers (speed, display, text input)
Video recording and playback is choppy/unreliable
Bluetooth tether to Droid X is hit and miss (WiFi works fine)
Volume buttons are darn near impossible to use (lol)
I realize these are all software issues, and CAN be fixed, but does it seem likely? I know the G1 still has development going on and just want to get the most out of this mammoth.
I hate to say it, but I think there might be something wrong with your XOOM since I have experienced none of those problems. Perhaps it needs a factory reset or something?
I definitely agree regarding the volume buttons though, very frustrating to use! Thankfully you only have to hit either one once and then you can control the slider on screen.

Only problem I have from your list is youtube HD playback. Rest is perfectly fine.
I've found the Xoom to be sluggish at places, even after factory resets. I do think it's a software problem as my O2X (same Tegra chip) isn't slow at all.
Overall it feels like Honeycomb was a bit rushed, and that some things could use a bit more performance tuning.
I think this may be some issue with your device hardware. I got no such slowdowns on my xoom. I concur sometimes youtube hd playback can be sluggish, but it depends on the wifi you're connectrd to speed.
Sent from my Xoom using Tapatalk
mine works fine except hd videos in youtube. disable the hd once u can n it will be fast. u can try a factory reset too
one question: How long have you had your xoom?
The reason I ask is for the first couple days after i got my xoom I was AMAZED by how much slower it was than my EVO. After a couple days though it seemed to smooth out and pick up speed.
Overall I'm less impressed with the xoom than I expected to be but I would recommend to any new xoom owner to reserve forming any opinions about it until it sees at least a couple days use.
I guess I'll ride it out for a few more days. I've had it about 4 days. I'll likely go play with a display and see what I get.
Have you flashed a new kernel? The latest tiamat kernel is (in my experience) smoother then stock (and has SD support). But the main thing is wait a few more days for the slowness to stop.
Sent from my Xoom the way it should be, rooted and with SD card.
also you might want to take it back and exchange it i had a bad power button and a few of the problems you have stated in your post so i took mine back and exchanged. Second one worked great and fine so i decided to keep my xoom and root it.
Never had any of those issues listed either. Might want to try the Tiamat kernal and see if that helps out.
Maybe a lemon. Go back to exchange it. Mine is working kicking ass.
OK, so I installed the 1.4.1 Tiamat kernel and wiped data. She seems to be running much better now. The typing in web pages is still a little slow, but I no longer get repeated letters when typing quickly. That was a big problem. I'm much happier, but some things are still a little slow. Looks like things could get better. Thanks for the help. If it's still slow next week after no wipes I'll exchange it as suggested.

I noticed the same thing. I rooted as soon as it was available and even with OC it just wasn't smooth. I couldn't get a single live wallpaper to run without slowing the Xoom to a crawl. Then last night I flashed the latest Tiamat kernel and its like a brand new Xoom!
I was going to go back to factory to see if that was the issue, but instead I tried the kernel first. So the two things I did was flash Clockwork recovery and flashed the Tiamat kernel (which cleared cache and Dalvik cache). Whatever it was, its awesome and I have been downloading all the live wallpapers just cause I can!
Mine was a little slow as well and seemed to balance out. Still not as smooth as my Evo for video though, which is depressing. I really expected to see updates by now to fine-tune things.
The silicone cover from Moto completely resolves the volume button issues by making them more prominent and easy to find.

This doesn't sound anything like a xoom to me. Mine has been running very smoothly from the moment I first turned it on. I even tried to OC to 1.5Ghz but then I changed back to 1Ghz cause it was unnecessary. Maybe you should ask moto to check if there's anything wrong with ur xoom or even get you another one .

Poor quality video with Flash since the update 3.1

Do or problem as well ?
Some streaming site worked well with 3.0.1
...and now the video is degraded with 3.1
I got same problem. Now flash movie on web site not run smooth as 3.01.
my personal experience is the opposite, like no question here at all, on 3.0.1 i would get stutters and laggy playback, and since the 3.1 update i have seen literally no lag or stuttering playing back 720p on imbedded video playback, youtube, anything. i keep seeing all these issue posts and threads about the 3.1 update but i am personally not experiencing any of them, my browser is an snappy as my ipad's browser, games/video playback anywhere (any quality) is perfect, navigation of any part of the os is snappier than before, battery life is exactly the same, i am happy with everything, i just want to be able to root 3.1 without adb and ill be 100% happy..

u can play 720p with no lag or skipping in youtube from browser? anyway u can take a video of that and post, would be helpfull. did u factory reset?
Why are you watching youtube using flash when we have an app that lets us view the video using hardware acceleration?
flash seems to have improved for me
My Flash has gotten so much worse in both the stock Browser and Dolphin that I have gone back to using my ipad1 whenever I want to access a site that has an ios version. It's strange that the degradation is only when you use the browser, not an app.

i did not factory reset, but i havent ever rooted because i wanted the 3.1 update from asus and i read about some disadvantages in primordial, but i really didnt do anything special, just the official update, and i definately meant youtube specifically from the youtube app itself, but from the browser streaming and playing 720p from imbedded videos and/or other means than youtube hasnt lagged on me either (yet** i dont have the invincible tf), the one video "provider" that just plain doesnt work is vimeo for me, i think its a flash 10.3 issue or something because when hitting play the box goes black and never plays. i was just relaying my experience, i think after an update or 2 honeycomb is really going to make apple nervous though
I can't watch ESPN videos anymore. Does anyone know why? I think it was a result of Flash 10.2 and not Honeycomb 3.1. I've done some searches, but I haven't found anything really for the transformer.
Does anyone else have this problem? It just shows up as a picture and never plays video.

you do not know that the net uses a lot of flash video with the same cuts completely different? Flash knows how to manage everything by cons if the hardware part is not done properly, Flash is degraded.
This is Flash movie with 3.0.1 and after ! 3.1
If you understand what I see.
Yes youtube work fine, but not all websites.
can you post a link to that video so we can try the same one please
no, it's a subscription service
Mine was choppy before on 3.01 and still is on 3.1, no change it seems, sux
the above pictures highlight the problem perfectly, i have a second batch transformer and upgraded after first boot to 3.1 i was also thinking steve jobs was right re flash my ipad1 pisses all over my transformer, in every video test ive done, granted its rooted\jailbroken but at this moment apart from the dull UI the only thing it cant do is read anything over a 1 gig usb stick or sd card for movies. I now find it incredible how slick the ipad is with only 256mb ram. Even google are working away from flash. Still loving my transformer, but so wanted it to be everything my desire hd is compared to the iphone 4. I have even found my self going back to my ipad for invoicing and word processing, pages and numbers are slick. Come on google, this thing has loads of horse power and is running like a vw beatle.

Just a quick note to the above, i have just uninstalled flash 10.3 and adobe air and my tablet is running as fast as my ipad, html5 videos are working, flash is definatley buggy on honeycomb. Even when plugins were enabled on demand it was slow. Going to have acplay with a few options.
Hello,
Following the problems encountered, I wrote the team has adobe flash. After several exchanges of mail, they understood the problem. The person I spoke with said he passed the baton to the service of development, and they would arrange to get a tablet asus to see what happens.
Hi,
That's very helpful, thanks for the information. It's definitely something we want to look into.
I've opened a bug, and I have an email into our customer engineering team to try and get a tablet to test with.

Galaxy Tab 10.1 very nice Honeycomb not so nice.

I think samsung did an awesome job with this tablet. Its beautiful and has the specs and is the best in the market. But for some reason I don't like using honeycomb so much. Its clunky, crashes, most apps are horrible, and it is not very customizable. I know it will evolve and be great, but today is mediocre.
its the same spec on the xoom and the asus and the gslate lol

Not sure which specs you are referring to but i think the OP is more talking to the design of the tablet which no one can deny is the best design on the market.
As far as HC itself: i had a Xoom for a week and felt underwhelmed by honeycomb. Its not that its bad, per se, but moreso that it just didn't fulfill me. That's why i am excited to see what Samsung does with the Touchwiz UX on this device. From the previews online, it looks to improve nearly all.aspects of Honeycomb. My only concern is the performance effect of TW.
Honeycomb is fine and dandy, but its a lot of eye candy. The best example is adding Widgets. I think they overcomplicated it, on the other hand I've been on android since 1.5 so i probably have a comfort zone that HC takes me out of.
With that said, i cannot wait to get one!

Exactly how I feel, the galaxy tab is amazing. I can't use honeycomb for more than a few days without getting bored. I wouldn't go out and buy a ipad, but its just so overcomplicated. Touchwiz could be the key, I am also interested in seeing what htc does with it.
I don't really have any issues with honeycomb and since the 3.1 update I haven't been having many crashes at all. what features do you think it's missing?
I know there aren't many apps available but for 90% of what I do with a tablet, I'm fine. Here's how I see the app situation
Great
Gmail
Maps
Youtube
Calendar
Pulse News
AccuWeather or WeatherBug for weather
Movies by Flixter
Splashtop for remote desktop - you'll have to buy this one but it works spectacularly on the tab
Good
Music
Browser
Google Books - I don't have access to paid books in canada and there's no sideloading. If I had one or both of these things, I'd say great
Kindle - UI could be a bit better but still pretty good
QuickOffice HD for word, excel, powerpoint - this is a paid app but it comes with the tab
FileManager HD for file management
Google Talk - file transfer would be nice but what's there now works quite well
Bad
Facebook
Twitter - tweetcomb works fine but they really need to update the official app
Something for wikipedia - the browser works fine but it would be nice to have a tablet optimized wikipedia app
XDA - works fine in browser
Skype - I'm super choked about the fact that micrsoft bought skype cause that means we'll never see a good skype app =[
so what else do you want? games, I guess? there are some good games already and there's more coming. So, for me, if they update the facebook app, I'll be pretty much fine with everything. Like I said, tweetcomb works fine and the browser works fine for wikipedia and xda

I guess you've got a point there. Canadian netflix is crippled to the point that it's basically useless and we don't even have hulu so I never considered those things. I did mean to mention skype but then I forgot. That is one I would really like but it's never going to happen now that skype is owned by microsoft.
I was having lots of issues with the browser until I got the 3.1 update but now it seems pretty good. Then again, I'm used to having things crash all the time because I'm a full time android developer. I get paid to try to make things crash so I'm so used to it now that I just click "force close" and then reopen it without even thinking about it.
as for games, I guess I have lower expectations. I'd much rather just play games on my xbox and there are a few good games for honeycomb so I'm happy with that. All the ones in tegra zone are pretty solid.
I had Asus transformer (before 3.1 upgrade) and returned it mainly due to:
- OS instability. I needed to restart the tablet every day because of unresponsive screen, etc. Could be due to transformer drivers also.
- Browser lag, esp. when browsing sites such as XDA developers
How is GT in these two aspects /w 3.1? I would love to get a new tablet, but can't be a beta tester for google after paying so much money.

The best thing is we can be subjective without jumping in eachothers arse. It will get better its just really young right now
I have been using 3.1 for over a month now and i don't have any problems with it, it runs very smooth on Xoom. No FC's, no crashes, no nothing, it just works.
I have been watching a lot of GT10.1 videos on Youtube and it doesn't seem as smooth as my Xoom. Home screen is lagging, FC's, selecting text in browser seems to be impossible, browser quick controls doest work and so on. Why is that?

changing the cpu scaling mode seems to help responsiveness. my galaxy tab is silky smooth the majority of the time. it has the hiccough every once in a while but usually gets right back on track. I haven't really seen any FC's(that I can remember) since updating to 3.1. selecting text in the browser isn't perfect but it works just fine for me. I do miss the quick controls though.. what's up with that?
We have a xoom at work.. I should really do some comparisons at some point

Did you update yours to 3.1?
I would have constant force closes on the browser market and keyboard but after the update I have not had any and everything is so,much s,ooother
Its quite a pain in the ass that we loyally buy the tab (10.1v) then have to still wait for the bloody update, when the new
customers get the update immediatly. On another note, get hacker keyboard, awesome kb for big screen tablets. Love the arrow keys.

I have a zoom and it has more force closures in the web browser than the zoom.
Its a tablet meant for entertainment, emails, app, and such. Right now honeycomb is just eye candy.
I have the Transformer and am thinking of changing over to the Galaxy Tab, mainly for the form factor. Looks to be very nice... However, I would miss the (in my mind) superior keyboard dock.
One of the things I do not like about the Transformer is the force closes on the Launcher that occur (sometimes multiple times a day) and the slow response when lifting the screen from the keyboard. It seems like it almost has to redraw the screens again.
I am guessing these are Honeycomb issues and not hardware issues.
Do any of you GTab 10.1 users experience launcher crashes or redrawing of the screens/widgets/shortcuts after not using for a couple of hours and then turning on again?
Thanks.

So, how stable/responsive is Honeycomb on the Tab?

Hey everyone. I'm planning on getting the Tab, and I was wondering if Honeycomb is decently stable and responsible on the Tab, as I understand from some of the posts here that Honeycomb is still a bit beta-y.
Namely:
-Does it play YouTube videos fine?
-Do apps force close often?
-Is there a lot of lag on the device?
Thanks in advance for any answers.
I've had mine for approx 24 hours (and have barely put it down).
No force closes, no lag to speak of, and every app I've installed has worked. Maybe the benefit of low expectations, or being used to a Vibrant, but Honeycomb is awesome.
The only thing I've run into: I have a very strong wifi connection, and at least 3 or 4 times in Gmail and the market, it says "no connection-retry?"
Every time I retry it connects.
Anyway, that's my perspective after a whole day, for what it's worth.
Youtube is excellent.
-Does it play YouTube videos fine?
I've seen a few catches here and there. Nothing to completely turn me away.
-Do apps force close often?
I've only had issues with one app and reinstalled it no probs after that.
-Is there a lot of lag on the device?
I've noticed a small amount of lag. Especially with the stock launcher. I'm not surprised because most of the stock devices that I've played around with have had the same small lag.
I've also noticed that a lot more apps stay running on the tablets. That can't help with the lag.
I'm personally can't wait for the voodoo lagfix to hit kernels.
It's a great device. Honeycomb is a bit buggy. If you run some apps that aren't optimized for it, it force closes at times.
If you can handle that, it's a great device.
Cool, everything sounds good. Can't wait to get my Tab now!
Got 10.1 retail 16gb with 3.1, unlocked from Frys yesterday. Auto installed all of my applications, total of 100+ from Market & Amazon through HTC Thunderbolt 4G LTE hot spot within minutes. I have Samsung 7" tab since last thanksgiving. Works everything, loves it. A keeper for me.
I just got my GT 10.1 yesterday and thus far I am very happy. Runs smooth and seems stable in my (limited) experience.

Supercurio has already said the Tab doesn't need a lag fix, so there may not be voodoo for it (although he already has the sound enhancements going)

I've used test devices asking with rc touchWiz units - lags are present, but vanilla honeycomb is bloody smooth, it felt as the most fluid honeycomb tab (I've used all major ones out there)
I think this "lag" should be fixed with the 3.2 update which is due on xoom in next few weeks - it has "improved hardware acceleration"

I've had a a few issues with apps force closing on me, and a couple of instances of slight lag in the interface as well, but overall I really like this device. Form factor is nice, screen is great and battery life is phenomenal.
I think the few issues with the 10.1 will be fixed in time - either by Samsung/Google or third party developers - so I'm not terribly worried. In the case that they aren't, these issues are slight and do not occur regularly so I can easily live with them - even if I shouldn't have to.

The original Voodoo lagfix for Galaxy S phones was used to convert the filesystem on the device to EXT3/4 from lackluster RFS, from what I am reading and experiencing Samsung is using EXT3 filesystem on the Tab, so the lagfix is pointless.
Kernel tweaks and fine tuning of the Honyecomb when the source becomes available should address the lag issues if ever.
Supercurio won't need to do the lagfix needed for the Galaxy S devices, but he may still have a few filesystem tweaks and whatnot to contribute that will give a small (possibly negligible) boost to performance on the Tab. He did that for the Nexus S, even though the Nexus S used EXT4.

Very same thing happens to me. My Xoom or Transformer never did this, and my Nook Color and Galaxy S Vibrant also never had issues with my wifi connection.
So I thought it might have been a hardware problem, also because I hadn't seen anyone mention it on this board. I returned my Galaxy Tab 10.1 and got a replacement. The replacement is doing it too. So I am now guessing it might be software.
Glad to see at least I'm not the only one having this problem. Haha.
Honeycomb runs real smooth on my Galaxy Tab. Though I have noticed a few hiccups, these include:
1) Sometimes it doesn't recognize that I have headphones plugged in, I have to reboot the tablet then it works fine. Not exactly a huge issue for me as I don't use headphones that often and it hasn't done it a lot.
2) If you have the keyboard dock, they are like oil and water. The tablet automatically goes into Clock mode and won't come out. You have to toy around with setting a different default keyboard, keep docking and undocking the tablet and even test with docking it with the screen off vs with the screen on to get it to recognize that keyboard as a keyboard and stop putting the device in Clock mode with no keyboard functionality. I haven't quite figured out a single method that works every time, but once you get it working that keyboard makes things so much easier to work with when typing a lot!
3) There is some lag with the interface, but nothing too bad. The worse lag is with typing. With or without the keyboard, the typing lag is horrendous and it's the only lag on this system that actually bugs me.
4) There is the occasional wake-up jam. This isn't tablet specific, but Android specific... when your device just won't wake up and you have to hold the power key for 15 seconds then release and hold again for a few seconds and the device will reboot. This has happened to me twice after charging overnight. In the morning the screen won't come on and I have to hold the power button, release then hold again and the device will power up. Fully charged.
I am hoping these are fixed with the official Samsung release with the TouchWiz overlay. I am thoroughly happy with the galaxy tab 10.1 and do not regret my purchase in any way, shape, or form. Bugs are to be expected, but for a device as expensive as this one it doesn't hurt to hope the manufacturer would address them with the next update...lol.

The YouTube app has been almost flawless for me. I think it did force crash once or twice.
Regarding force closures. There has been big improvements since the days I had a Xoom and Android 3.0. YouTube crashed once, maybe twice. The Browser app crashed once. I don't think Market has crashed yet, but it's still a little quirky.
Most of the force closures seem to be from third party apps that haven't been updated in a while. But I have apps I use daily that never force close. Pulse is rock stable, Opera Mini is rock stable. Just started using News 360 and it seems stable so far. Dropbox very stable.
The Honeycomb launcher is a bit laggy. I'm living with it. I tried alternative launchers like ADW Launcher and Launcher Pro, but I find those two look pretty ugly and the icons get all messed up when I rotate the tablet. I love how the Honeycomb launcher reserves blank space on the wide side of the tablet so icon spacing stays even. I guess I'm a little weird about that.
So far I think my biggest issue is streaming. I really have more trouble with streaming apps on the Galaxy Tab 10.1 than I have with other tablets. Pandora will freeze up when it's in the background too long. TuneIn Pro seems to buffer a lot more on my Galaxy Tab 10.1. Has my wondering if the wifi is that good or if there is some software issue. And I've had some intermittent "no network connection" errors as I mentioned in a previous post.

That ironic. My Atrix does this, and it annoys me to no end (the Atrix has HORRIBLE WiFi connectivity) and in comparison my galaxy tab is fantastic. I connect to WiFi quickly, I get a strong data flow with fast uploads and downloads and no issues with disconnecting from the network.

The really weird thing is that it only seems to happen in the native google apps. The first day I had it, it happened 3 or 4 times, then yesterday not once. I'm just wondering if Comcast was buggy that day. It's been known to happen.
I've had it for nearly two weeks (I am fortunate enough to live in New York so I ran to Best Buy in Union Square before the "official release"). I had a Xoom for awhile, and 3.1 is certainly an improvement.
I am not a power user as far as media goes, I am more email/web browsing/business apps, so I haven't had any major issues with Youtube, it's seemed pretty smooth for me.
The stock browser freezes up when a drop down menu is selected, and there's a long list of choices. Freezes, and closes all windows. Pain in the butt. I don't love any of the browsers on the Market (they all seem to be buggy as well and/or only open in mobile mode), and this is just a problem I'll have to deal with.
I've found that the battery life is good, but not great. Perhaps I have things running in the background that I shouldn't. But I'm not seeing more than about 5-6 hours, and as I mentioned I'm just using email and web browsing for the most part.
Overall, I recommend.
No issues for me outside of the odd program force closing. Google Music did that to me a few times until I updated it.
Stock browser is a little buggy at times. It didn't sync all my bookmarks well. I'm still looking for a good browser. Dolphin HD is alright.
Youtube runs perfectly fine.
Only a few apps force close on the Tab and sometimes the browser force closes, but rarely.
And there's only a slight lag on the home screen. It's barely noticeable but it's less smooth as compared to the iPad. Hopefully, 3.2 will improve the experience.

[Q] Impressed with 3.1 update?

Now that 3.1 is finally out is everyone pretty satisfied with it? I know I am. Seems like a very smooth tablet experience now. Feel sorry for the guys who traded in there Iconia's and couldn't wait for the update.
It's pretty good, although my A500 was already pretty responsive with 3.0. Still, I do notice a slight improvement.

One of the biggest improvements i noticed off the bat was youtube. Loads great now without stuttering.
I gotta say the mouse support is pretty spiffy. Overall it seems a lot smoother and snappier. I haven't tested it fully yet, but video support is definately better. It now seems to play all the videos that my Gtab plays. The one semi-disappointment is that while some widgets can be re-sized, I can't seem to make them smaller. They go bigger no problem, but smaller is a no-go on all the ones i've tried.

I'm kinda confused by this...
Why do you say that? If anything I feel sorry for you that it took you so long to experience 3.1.

Im talking about the people who got rid of there Iconia and couldn't wait for an update to be released. I'm not hating on the Chinese version or the Asus version of 3.1
I love it know and my YouTube plays nice...

anyone having problems with mouse support? my mouse at the office doesn't work but the one I have at home works perfectly!
don't notice any difference
To be honest I don't really notice a difference. After the first rebot I actually found the performance slower. Rebooted once more and it now runs much like it did before. I think I'm one of the fortunate ones who didn't experience any issues under 3.0.1.
No support for Xbox 360 controllers at this point, the ring just keeps blinking.

It seems like it fixed cell stand by issue
Mine is rooted running Virtuous Asus w/Thor's latest. I have not seen, read, or experienced anything that has convinced me to jump on 3.1. I am very happy to keep my current rig and wait for a nice stable custom ROM.
I can now plug my digital camera into the A500 and with 1 click have all my pics download
it is a nice improvement from 3.0 . Then again this would be my first real update on any android software going back to the original mt3g days.
I have noticed that my wifi icon shows that I have horrible connection even when I'm next to the router. Snappier, nicer, better feel I am glad I forced my wife to buy this and the fact that xda talks all about this unit.
If it was not for y'all I would be lost.

Although my tablet does seem a bit smoother now, it refuses to play any of my videos i put on there (moboplayer, arcmediapro, act 1, rockplayer lite, none seem to work now?) gonna try moving the vids to "movies" folder and trying the stock player and see what happens.
Is it me or does it seem that the random shut downs are not happening anymore with 3.1?
Im monitoring for a while now, i havent had none yet.
It was the only thing i was bothered with a bit, but it would never occur to me, to trade the A500 for another tablet, im loving it since day one.

One thing I've noticed is video playback is a lot better. Rockplayer lite and moboplayer work fine on mine although mobo sometimes fcs. I'm sure rockplayer didn't let me play vids in hardware decoding mode before. It would always fail but now it works.

I had the same issue in Moboplayer and change the settings to be "Soft decoding by default" This seems to have fixed the issue.

Since 3.1 I seem to get randomly booted out of the browser, but not a proper force close. I do lose all open tabs.
Also the onscreen keyboard now seems a lot more laggy
3.1 wass not bad. Better than 3.01, but still a little sluggish compared to virtuous galaxy. I am headed back to that rom.
