I know it is bad to ask at this moment, but didn't you have any protection for SGT while you are having it? I meant do you have cover with it or it was drop right at the surface on something hard?
I am just wondering if my existing cover (from VIVA) can withstand such drop?
I hope your Tab can survive this fall.

Holy ****. The community is with you at this sad time

I can reallyreallyreally understand you, it happened to me three days ago to my HD2

what happened? where was it dropped from? so sad

you should be able to get a new one since the glass is supposed to be indestructible.
thats a great argument for Samsung.

Ouch luckily I've only ever dropped mine once and that was onto a softish surface whilst in it's case. Fortunately it landed flat on it's back with no adverse effects

I’m really sorry for your tab…I dropped mine a few days ago it bounced twice but the cover from scoshe helped the tab to survive my clumsiness

Don't you think ahhhhhhhhh....crack would have been more appropriate title?

just a tip for everyone else: the silicone case seems quite good ar protecting the screen. i accidentally dropped my tab down all of the stairs and the screen is fine

Wow, now that is impressive.

The screen is not covered by warranty.
Reason being ~ contrary to belief it is NOT indestructible as you say.
If you hit it face on then yes, it will withstand an inordinate amount of misuse.
However, hit it side on and that is a different matter.
Glass is glass no matter how you look at it.
Face on and the laws of physics will allow it receptive to change as the energy of being hit is transmitted back out of the glass, in other words it has flexible properties.
Side on however and it is rigid, there is nowhere for the energy to expand.
Instead it travels within the confines of the glass and because it can not expand it shatters.
Gorilla glass is meant to allow a greater amount of energy to hit the surface but again it will only do this under the laws of physics.

I can't believe no one said this already.....
That should buff right out
On a serious note...that really blowz man! Sorry
From the Tab.

ive never seen plastic shatter like that. lol. not as dramatic.
Hopefully you had insurance.

Yeah it sucks. I have insurance, but i'm guessing because the phone is so new, I made a claim but I have to fax them information and do all this extra stuff. I never had to do this when I made a claim with the TP2.
Ouch, I'm known to do that sometimes leave me phone on my lap and get up out the car. Luckily I normally have some full body protection and a screen guard on my phone.
Looks like it still works though.
yeah I have a screen protector coming, will get here today (a bit too late lol). I am looking for a case, im picky when it comes to those. Not much out right now other than a limited ebay picking and the one from verizon. Which I just now found out they make in a clear color, looks like I will have one for my replacement...
I have the body glove and zagg screen, and as sad as this is to say I have actually drooped mine twice and you can't even tell. It still looks fresh outta the box. Good luck with the replacement to from what I've heard VZW is still sold out.

sorry to say, but i dont think ur the first casualty.
also insurance ftw.
I bought the silicone cover from Verizon, I have not dropped my phone yet hopefully it protects the phone if I drop it.
Hopefully Otterbox will make one for this phone like the one for the iphone.
dropped my x10 and nothing happened. wouldn't wanna try it with my incredible now

Well i completed the claims and it already gave me a tracking number and guaranteed my replacement will be here on the 7th.

So .. who dropped the big galaxy ?

Well i'm planning to buy this phone and i'm a bit scared of the plastic build
for me to be convinced ..there is nothing more trustworthy than user-experience !
so .. who dropped the galaxy .. where/how & did it effect it ?
check this out, it will answer your question:

Plastic, due to being flexible, is a MUCH better shock absorbant than super-hardened glass.
Best case scenario for a drop would be a flat-drop on the back.
Plastic used in galaxy s is so flexible that almost every drop is harmless.

WOW our phone is amazing! it can survive all that
finding a replacement screen is easy
incredible, as long as you don't drop it from over 1.5m high, you've got nothing to worry about
I didn't drop mine but I fell down with it in my pocket and now I have a cracked lens glass on the back of the phone.
I guess the lens glass isn't as strong as the plastic back!

I launched mine on a granite floor.was trying to apply a screen protector and for some reason it just flew out my hand. The back and battery ended up about 3 foot away from the rest of the phone but when i put it back together there wernt a scratch on it,and everything worked fine.
Every time I get a new gadget I go through a period where I'm terrified (well, at least worried) that I am going to drop it and damage it. No difference here. I have tried to be so freaking careful - then the other day at work as I was getting back into my car to run an errand (work related) I pulled it out of my pocket and inadvertantly threw the darn thing into a plastic/metal box on my passenger seat. I do not know how it happened. My heart just sank. Yet it appears to have come out of this minor incident with nary a scratch or sign of injury. Relieved.
I believe that it is fairly durable... thankfully.
El Mono
Why not just use a case?
I think a case is always a good idea. But sometimes I just like to enjoy my gadget(s) unencumbered.
El Mono
Dropped mine three times before I decided this phone is too slippery to use without a good case.

the most noticable damange are around the slivery chrome on the side of the phone. Other than that are minor scratches around the front and the back. The screen was protected with a screen protectors from day one, so it remain scratch free.
Edited:
The case is ugly as hell, I know. but hey, whatever works right?
Wow it's pretty foolproof! but i won't try to drop it and i always cary it with me in a pullup case!

[Q] Screen Cracks

I've got my shiny HD2 and i've fallen in love!
But after 4 days of owning i tripped today and my worst fear the screen crack!!! and its huge the screen is covered in 70% cracks. tho it still works but its hard to make out the keyboard in some areas
before all the posts about how to repair i used the search and am aware how to replace and purchase a replacement im looking at £32 on ebay and a few hours of time one weekend...
But now my question in my search for answers i've seen lots and i mean lots of info on this, is the screen the phones achilles heel. is there away to prevent this from happening. eg a good screen protector to help with the stress of dropping all falling!! would gel cases make a difference?
Basicly can i prevent this from happening in the future?
Regards
Wappy
cause you can prevent it, dont drop it!!lol, silcone case helps, ive dropped mine a few times and from height, just has to catch it at the wrong angle and it will go!

wondered how many posts it would be till some one said dont drop it lol
what i feared!.. is there a neck chain or a chain attachment available to i could attach it to my jeans so if it did drop it would only end up by my knee? but there is no hole attachment for it again meaning i have to hold it meaning my little fingers might drop it
Ahh MY old TYTNII I could throw it at people and it still worked lol, but im guessing bigger glass screen = more fragile!
Yeah, it sucks...this happened to my wifes phone like 3 months ago. It had a protector, but apparently a little rock on the floor hit the bottom part of the screen. $125 for a new phone.

the screen, for the size it quite tough, but it is glass!I had a LG BL40, dropped it after a week, chucked it in the bin and got this...apart from a couple of scratches, no cracks!!
well this is the damage to mine!
and with it still working
i've orded a gel case and a Vikuiti screen protector and hopefully that might help for the next screen

Moto X Wood backs

Soooooo, do we think these are still coming? i'm kinda holding out for this.
Rosewood for days and days.....
http://dbrand.com/purchase/moto-x/
it's vinyl
Dunno... there are a LOT of technical issues they will have to work out with wood. you have varying temps coming from the phone hardware causing expansion and contraction as it cools or heals up the wood. you also have moisture from the hands and its not a soft water either, sweaty secretions tend to be salty which wood reacts to in fairly unpleasant ways. Even wood boat finishes have to be renewed and maintained fairly regularly which is not something most people are willing to do on their phones. And thats not even bringing in the natural expansion/contraction wood goes through as you progress from moist summers to dry winters (remember that old hutch or drawer that closed perfectly in the winter but always stuck in the summer?).
So yea while I love making furniture and various decorations out of wood I don't really see it being a practical back material. But hey people use glass on phone backs and thats not all too practical so maybe they will try wood.
if they get it together, im sure it would be a treated wood. but i could see the seals having issues if the wood expands.....
Hmmmmm

What they will probably do (or at least I would) is completely seal the wood in some kind of plastic/epoxy finish. It would end up "feeling" like plastic but it would be real wood and effectively sealed off from moisture, although heat would still be an issue. The other issue is the back material is SOOOO thin its going to need some kind of very strong backing to give it a bit of structural integrity or else it will crack on the first bump.
i'm guessing the wood backs are going to be a very thin veneer that covers a standard plastic back. in fact, looking at the pictures again, they look like some sort of insert and they could possibly have a different feel than the standard plastic back, like maybe they've lost the curve.

droid-life reported their impression and said that (although it was prototype) it wasnt covered by a veneer and really felt like wood. who knows if that will be the final product though.

A veneer is still real wood, it's just a very thin piece they can adhere to the cover. Almost everything hardwood you see is veneered. Otherwise it would be ridiculously expensive.
I'm down.

GF first drop (waist high) in Caseology case RIP

So my girlfriend dropped her S7 Edge from waist high in a Caseology case and the screen shattered. Upsetting because of all the drop test videos we've watched with multiple drops much harder than her phone hit and without a case.
I have a Unicorn Beatle Pro case and I've dropped mine at least a dozen times and no cracks. Those Caseology cases slip off too easy to consider it as protection .

Unlucky. Perfect impact can always cause this. Doubt it was any kind of manufacturing defect but that's always possible too.
Ouch
Seems expensive to repair. I use a very thin case (Spigen thin Fit) but I never drop my phone. But if (or when) it happen, it's a matter of luck, I guess.
Im using tempered glass and leather case its so expensive to dropping and makeing crash test 4 me
It's all in how they land. You could drop a phone multiple times without any problem, but then someone else drops there and it hits just right and shatters. Sucks, though. Sorry to see this.
From what I can see the case has a very small lip, which doesn’t keep the screen far off the ground, that combined with it landing on what appears to be at least 3 stones (the small impact points), makes it so the screen would shatter no matter what. You can have the best piece gorilla glass and case, but if you drop a phone screen down, on rocks, nothing will protect it.
Sucks though, maybe the vendor has some kind of grace period and will replace it for you. If they repair it, keep in mind that the IP68 rateing will no longer apply.

It does look like it hit rocks. It hit smooth hard surface.
