Hi,
I'm having an issue with my HD where sometimes the phone restarts on its own..it doesn't happen often but it does occur..mainly when I am listening to the radio..is anyone else experiencing this or know why this is happening so i can fix it?
Thanks
Incase it helps the only 3rd Party Softwares I have installed are
Coreplayer
Tomtom 7 with USA maps
Gyrator 2
NoData
Voice Command 1.6
SD TuneUP
My ROM and Radio are original HTC
I've had exactly the same thing happen with me, the system restarts of its own accord. Again, listening with the radio. It's happened three times so far, over a two week period.
I know it doesn't help, but at least you know you are not alone!!
My ROM and Radio are original version.

Thanks for the reply..glad to know I'm not alone on this issue ..i do find that this issue does not occur if i have the phone charging via usb while listening to the radio
My versions are:
ROM: 1.14.405.3 (22273) WWE
Radio: 1.09.25.14
My restarted twice and i didn't do anything....one time was lying on the table and second time was connected while charging the battery....
If i woldn't have to enter pin after reboot i wouldn't worry much - but i have to do it so this is disturbing because i once didn' see it rebooted....
I also had it twice within one week time. It also happened when I was listening to the radio.
ROM: 1.14.404.3 (22273) NLD
Radio: 1.09.25.14
I've had my HD for a week now, and mine has done it every day so far!!! I dont listen to the FM radio, so its not that causing it - it has happened when I have been web browsing, texting, putting in a contact, and even when in my pocket doing nothing.
I take it that as this thread has received so few posts that this is not a common issue and I should simply return the handset for a replacement? Maybe we all have "friday afternoon" models?
I had the same problem. My HD worked fine, and then constantly auto-restarted.
I tried everything- reflashed the ROM, took all the programs off, hard-resetted. Nothing worked.
...Then I changed the battery, and the problem disappeared for a couple of weeks, but it's returned today!
For my few pence worth, it's something to do with the battery, or at least the way the battery talks to the device. Not an expert and no idea!
Had a similar problem where it just rebooted for no reason. Was like this for around 3 - 4 weeks and then completely died. Sent back to HTC for repair and had it returned with a new main board. After 2 hours of use it died again. Sent it back a second time, had another new main board, the FPC connector was re-seated and now all is ok so far. Just hope you guys are not going down my route.
Never had that happen to me. Sounds like a hardware issue.
...Interestingly (and I've read this somewhere before), I've tried switching my network from Auto to GSM, and I have had no more issues.
I travel across the country- a lot on trains, and I suspect one of the things triggering the failure is switching between bands.
I have also heard that it may not have anything to do with the handset, and is SIM related. I don't know enough to comment on that.
I had the same problem when i was listening to the radio. I thin i have found a way to go around the radio-problem. I installed powerradio and my phone haven't restarted all day. Hope i helps

ps. sorry for my bad english
my htc hd auto restart at the window 6.1 green screen
what could go wrong?
it was OK in the past....
i try to swap battery with other HD, same problem
I hard reset ,same problem, keep auto restart at green window screen
i use boot loader flash to new ROM, 6.1 still have the same auto restart problem
i have to believe hardware failure, where could go wrong?
i suspect reset button stuck, ...before the green screen appear, i presss restart button, no response. Strange.. because my other set HTC HD reset button response before green window screen
I've had the same problem a number of times. It seems to depend on the Rom. I just tried Laurentius's final Blackstone Rom and it would happen 4 -5 times a day. Dutty's Leo 9 Rom does it too but his R2 seems stable. Am going to try out the Dusk-More Rom now
Yep I am having a similar problem though has nothing to do with the radio. I have posted a thread on it also "HD Touch On/Off Problem".
Happens usually once or twice after taking it off charge for the night and then it's fine for the rest of the day.
I had something like that with mine, the problem was the battery, I switched with a new genuine battery and until now i did't had more problems, but it was in my case....
Flashing stock rom solves hard reset issue
Flashed a stock Rom 1 week ago before flashing a cooked rom again. It's been a week and it seems to have solved the problem.....touch wood.
If anyone else tries this, post a message to let others know if it works.
Hopefully, I won't be posting here again
i had the same problem.
i reflashed original spl, rom, radio then i put again the custom stuff, and the problem has gone!
now its 1 month without problems
Youtube freezes on HD2
I can validate your frustration. I am having problems with my HD2 freezing up as well and doing a soft reset on it's own. So the YouTube app opens up the HTC player and then it will play a few seconds and then freeze up. I also opened an MP4 movie file and view it with the HTC player and that also froze it. Last but not least, I have TomTom and that froze it after 15 minutes last night.
I have seen some postings that Tmobile and HTC will be releasing a new rom to fix some memory leaking issues so perhaps that might be it.
It started happening about a week ago for me. Please post any solutions you might find.
I am on:
OS v.5.2.21889
Mania v.2.5.20121412.1
ROM v.2.10.531.1 WWE
Radio v. 2.08.50.08.2
I have the same problem, but not related to fm radio.
It just happens...
It also happens when the phone is trying to start. It restarts, a few times when it shows "smart mobility" just before the radio, rom and other information at the right bottom.
I only rolled back to the official rom and radio, many hard resets, but it still happens..
I'll try to specify under what conditions it's happening, and will post again..
...I do not know what to do...
Hi everybody, I have the same problem on my HD.
It's restart on its own and some times if it's turned off then it turns on by its own
I've tried the following test without solve the problem :
- several hard reset
- with and without SIM
- with and without memory card
- with another battery (new)
- upgrade with original firmware
I add that the problem appeared suddenly
Unfortunately it's no longer under warranty then I would like to know if there's a solution different from send it to HTC.
Thanks to all.
I am not sure if this has to do with using Android or not, but sometimes my HD2 decides to reboot itself unexpectedly, on WM as well as on Android and I can't really find what's causing it.
But what happens is, after switching itself off, it switches itself on again and hangs on the HTC logo, sometimes with or without the following info:
R 2.10.50.28_2
G 15.40.50.07U
D 1.66.76641
I am using stock ROM that came with it, i assumed it will be stable by itself but it reboots itself randomly sometimes just like on Android.
Does it have to do with the Radio version (i changed it from 2.07.xx). I tried 2.12.xx before and had same problems.
I should note that the only way for it to run again is to remove the battery for a while and then put it back. If i remove it and put it back briefly it will still hang.
Anyone is familiar with this strange behavior?
Thanks
ME too
I have the EXACT same problem. It only started for me after using android. now whenever i run Android it will unexpectedly reboot and sometimes hang like yours. It also does it in WM though not as often. I was able to notice it might have something to do with data connections bc if i run android but only use wifi it seems to be fine. I tried changing Radios WM ROMs and Android builds i even hardspled my phone again but nothing solved it. The problem needs to be talked about more. it got so bad for me I bought a Desire and gave up on my HD2 for the moment. Keep this thread up.
sounds like i have to follow
I hope not!
I notice if i do heavy download on wm or android i get it. But it could be that the phone is too hot? But it's not alarmingly hot tbh.
I hope more people can shed light on this.
Thanks for your input.
Yeah this is what seems to happen to me too, i start a downlogsd it gets a bit warm then freezes or reboots and gets stuck. However it doesnt even have to be a large download for me, a simple cab file or youtube video sometimes. And as far as heat, this never used to be a problem and i know for a fact my phone used to heat up way more before without a problem.
Maybe the qualcomm chipset go in "safe mode"..i remember that for first start tickle the orange led and after the device freeze or restart..maybe your device overheat. Try to touch cover's device or install a battery status monitor software. If you have changed radio, return on the original status. In case the restart happen always, make a backup using Pimbackup, and do an Hard Reset. For first try to use the telephone without the memory card and test the stabilty. If is all ok, you have to provide to format your SD card in Fat32. Try also to change the HSPL with the original SPL.

Forums Restored from Backups - LOST DATA - PLEASE READ
As many of you may have heard, we underwent routine maintenance on our Database Server. Upon rebooting the Database Server, it refused to boot and all indications are that the RAID 10 (what is RAID? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RAID) array failed.
We have restored the Forums from a 24 hour old backup. We know this is not ideal, but at this point, the chances of recovering the failed array are slim.
We sincerely apologize for this. In fact, this maintenance was intended to boost the redundancy of our database setup and lightening strike.

Thabks. Back to the subject, today i tried downloading on wifi a 150mb file on android and it rebooted byitself.
Then i tried to play a wmv video file on WM stock ROM and after 6 min it rebooted.
So its starting to look more and more like cpu/heat problem, anyone having these issues?
So does anyone think this might have something to do with all the overclocking in those android builds we've been using?
After 45 mins of install HD2 still hanging?
Hi, I just installed FroyoSense by darkstone
Release date: 07.AUG.2010
I don't know if this is the latest (probably not) but after 45 minutes of install the screen has in the top left hand corner tiny small text (excuse my lack of knowledge here) but no scrolling text as I expected, its now like 50 minutes, how long should it take?
Any help please would be appreciated, thanks
John
New to the HD2
So, I just bought a used HD2 a week ago. It was having similar problems in WM. I took it to a local store, and they said that is just how WM phones are. I've flashed HSPL and different radios and ROMs, installed Android, but still have trouble with freezing and rebooting on it's own no matter what I do. IT happens the same in WM or Android. Is there any way to find out if these might be due to hardware problems caused by the previous owner?
I got the same problem, when I do a lot of things on the same time on the HD2 it hangs or reboot. During de restart of the phone it hangs on the White screen with HTC on it. I have te take the battery out of it en than reboot again.
When I listen music and Internet the same time it almost always happends.
It happends on WM but also on Android, I tryed different ROM's and Radio Version's but nothing worked. Also tryed to work without SD-card, but still the same problem.
So I have no idea how to solve the problem...
I hope someone now's how to solve it...
Sorry for my bad English but I hope it's clear

Ok having waited for 2 hrs, I shutdown and installed FroyoStone v2, this time the tiny text appeared and faded after about 5 -10 seconds and the screen has gone blank, is this normal? No scrolling text, nothing, I going tpo re-boot and will keep you updated. Thx
If you read the previous posts you would know this thread has nothing to do with the problem youre describing. I understand the confusion of the title but pls read the thread first.

Your problem is unrelated to this thread.
So far we have more and more people having the related issue on WM and Android. We need some expert to help us pinpoint the problem.

i have the same issues.
I can add also playing videos for longerthan 5-10min would make the phone reboot too weither its WM or android.
Today I was in the Store where I bought mine HTC HD2, because I was sick off it. They told me that is was a familiar problem with the HTC HD2. They also would repair it free for me. I didn't do it yet because first I have to delete my HSPL etc.
I asked them also what the would repair to solve te problem, he told me: the will do a complete bodyswap. So everything will be renewed, exept the tochscreen and front.
So I guess it is a real and serious hardware problem....
Why we dont hear people conplaining about it if its comon?
I find that very odd.
Someone could try PMing one of the devs in the forum and linking them to this thread to see if they could shed some insight or at least bring more attention to the issue.
Well I live in the Netherlands and on the Dutch HTC HD2 forum, I heard some people complaining about it. But the salesman of the store said that it is a familiar problem, so that sounds to me like a regular problem. But indeed it's weird we doesn't hear more people complaining.
Maybe the most of the people think is normal with WM, but I am really sick of it...
Hi guys.
Thanks for the great work you guys achieved!
I have been enjoying my HD2 much more these days.
I have been testing and flashing the nand roms on this forum and it seems all the desire roms are giving me a random reboot on my phone.
Not constant but at least twice a day.
I've uninstalled(or not installed any) apps or killer tasks.
The most stable nand rom I used without crashing much was the nexus rom.
Has the bug from Desire creeped into the nand rom based on Desire?
I've searched the forum and it says it could be corrupt data on the SD card
but I've cleared and formatted the SD card many times.
Any ideas what is causing the crash?
One key point is that my phone is in a flat where the signal is not very good so it is constantly looking for signal from the provider.
Apart from that I have all the HARDSPL 2.08, MAGLDR 1.11 installed and never had a issue flashing the roms.
Any advice or solution would be grateful! Thanks~
are you using an overclocked kernal? cause sometimes it happens when you are using it at full speed and starts rebooting itself, imho...
+1 on the Kernel theory here... Not all silicone is created equal, some phones can take the OC, some can not. Try and throttle it down with SetCPU.
Are you freezing up before the reboots??

Not just overclocked kernels, undervolted kernels also don't work well for some people.
OP: which build are you currently using?
Install SetCPU and dial it down a little. If you don't know chances are you are not OC'ed, but that doesn't mean your CPU isn't taking some pain. Bring it down to say.... 800 and see if it holds on. Worth a shot.

Okie thanks for the quick reply
Currently I am running DFT stock Desire rom.
I think I flashed the phone with every nand rom on this forum....lol
The phone will just reboot when left alone.
So I don't know if it is crashing or freezing.
Sometimes it reboots while charging and sometimes just on standby doing nothing.
Doesn't seem to be getting warm but maybe I can't really feel it as it is bloody cold in my room.
I will try the SetCPU option and see what happens.
It may as well be something that simply occurs randomly. I flashed jdms nand 2 days ago & it worked great, yesterday tho I had to reflash wm coz I needed to reinstall copilot & deactivate it so I could get it on android. Once I went back to jdms nand, I started getting random reboots. So I went ahead & reflashed a 3rd time & its been stable once again.

It may also be just something it does early on, give it some time to settle...

i dont have this problem, i testing my rom on 3 days without sim-card. And it work well.
Thanks for the help guys!
Dialed down to 806 MHz.
I will report tomorrow if it reboots or not.
I get really jumpy when my phone suddenly vibrates on me...lol
i had it 2day for the first time, dont know why . im using the standerd rom from cotulla. i had it on the table while i was on my laptop n suddenly
it reboot itself
Yeah its scary coz you never expect it.
Imagine you are on your own watching the Ring or something and the phone jumps up!-_-;;
also keep in mind that your mainboard in the hd2 could be the problem. Had those reboot issues in winmo 6.5 (sometimes when doing nothing but mostly when watching youtube/cpu intensive service).
So i sent my phone to a repair center, they replaced the mainboard and since my phone doesn't reboot > sod whatever again and believe me there are an load of faulty mainboard around sadly
Second that, this girl had the same problem and she just got a warranty phone (new)
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
I had no problem what so ever when using windows rom, and I used whole bunch of them.
Had freezing from time to time but never reboot issue.
I've searched and there is a whole forum and issue on the HTC Desire rebooting constantly....
The phone rebooted itself just now even with the 800mhz drop.
I am going reflash to stock wm rom and then back to the most stable Nexus Android rom and see what happens from there.
Those of you who haven't had this problem yet let me inform you that this problem doesn't start right away after you flash the rom, maybe couple of days or a week after it started.
Let's try and get it sorted out~!
same problems here, using mdj gingerbread 1.3
but its always freeze while running heavy cpu load apps like games, earth, youtube etc
tried donwclock to around 800 mhz but dont solved =/
Same problem here , randomly reboot.
I m using JDMS 1.62 , only happen on android , WM rom is working fine without reboot.
Well it seems I am not the only one having this problem here.
Anybody running Nexus rom and still having random reboot issues?
Or anyone running Android on SD card without and random reboots?
Could it be the the data on the phone is rewriting the wrong information and causing it some process to fail and to reboot?
It doesn't seem to be the hardware fault(then it would happen alot more often as hardware fail will be permanent and problem would show more frequently) although I have read on the Desire forum people have been sending their phone back for motherboard replacement with mixed results.
Currently reflashing again!
Im experiencing weird behaviour. After playing game for 5 minutes my phone overheats. That is not a problem.
But after it i loose sound, signal and my SD card becomes unmounted at the same time.
Give it a little longer time and phone will freeze.
Have anyone else experienced same beahavior.
I have similar issues to yours, Denyboy, however its more than just games. I find it doing the same thing with GPS after a few minutes. Sometimes its simply multitasking, such as streaming music from Pandora and using the browser. I am not using the extended battery. I have a TMOUS HTC HD2.
Ive attempted several different ROMs and Radios attemping to figure out what the issue could be. My current setup is using Cotulla's Desire Rom, magldr 1.11, with the following other specs:
Android Version: 2.2
Baseband Version: 15.42.50.11U_2.15.50.4
Kernel Version: 2.6.32.15-g66f6ed7-dirty
Build Number: 2.29.405.5 CL293415 release-keys
Software Number: 2.29.405.5
Browser Version: Webkit 3.1
Ive experienced this issue back before NAND builds were released.
It happens with or without the sd card inserted. (post NAND testing)
I attempted to underclock via SetCPU to around 600mhz and still locked up. with that one, Im not sure if SetCPU actually did anything, even though it says it did, because it was still getting pretty warm in the back by the sim card.
Although this reply isnt necessarily a "I know what your problem is, heres how to fix it," maybe we can figure something out. Im willing to give anything a shot.

I dont have any task killers installed at the moment.
At this point, the only thing that has me believe my particular issue isnt hardware based is because its so intermittent.
I realized I was changing everything but the HSPL software. I put Stock WinMo back on there, put it under a small stress test, and sure enough, it locks up there too. I then removed HSPL, then tried again, and I was not able to get it to lock up, even after multitasking for a good 30 minutes.
I am trying to figure out if HSPL could cause issues with the OS while the OS is running, as far as I knew that wasnt the case, as HSPL is more of a bios like system, where if there were issues, the phone wouldnt boot.
If Im wrong, someone PLEASE correct me

OMG. I had exactly same idea as you. Becouse when i installed stock ROM via SD card thus removing HSPL i managed to run game for a long long time without problems. I wanted to return it for REPAIR but freezing sudenly dissapeared. But somehow i wonder how HSPL could interfeere with it. I didnt want to talk about it becuse even i have conflicted opinion on that. I was not sure about it.
Changing Task Killers seemed worked for a while on first Android after STOCK ROM, but then i changed 2-3 builds and this issue is back.
Its not about WM becouse i flashed custom WM rom and freezing is present.
Weird.
I'm have troubles with my HD2 randomly rebooting itself for apparently no reason. Initially I had a barebone CM7 ROM, and it seemed to reboot much more frequently when I came home from university. As soon as I got home for this break, sure enough, it began rebooting again. I then switched to a CM10 ROM, thinking it was just the previous ROM messing up, yet the problem persisted.
If it's not a ROM causing it, what could it be? It's really annoying having the phone shut off randomly while I'm doing something, and I'm worried it'll end up worse just because of how frequently it reboots.
overheating? failing touch screen? dodgy battery? failing hardware? faulty/fake copy SD card? old/wearing out sim card? some app that doesnt play nice on the hd2?
they can all cause reboots on multiple roms, along with another half a dozen reasons, i'm sure.
If the phone did reboot from any of those, it still wouldn't explain why it doesn't happen when I'm at school. I'm not exaggerating; once I go back (about ~126 miles away from home), it never reboots like this. At this point, you may be thinking, "Why not just wait to go back?" I have only two semesters left, and I want to get this fixed prior to me moving back here.
But nonetheless:

I thought this was the case at first as well, but I uninstalled all my apps on the barebone CM7 ROM, and reboots still occurred. Even after doing a fresh install of this CM10 ROM, the phone rebooted before I even began installing apps to it.
Are there any files that don't get changed by flashing a new ROM? I was thinking that it could possibly be the modem I have flashed to my phone, but I wasn't sure if flashing a new ROM automatically changes the modem as well. Can I get some insight on this?
By modem do you mean the radio? It's unlikely to be the radio itself, however it could be something like the phone struggling to switch between 2g and 3g,,try it with the phone in only 2g mode,, perhaps you have a faulty cell tower in your area,,unlikely but not unknown.
Yeah, sorry about the terminology haha. But thank you, I'll try that and report back!
So disabling the 3G didn't change anything, but I noticed a drop in the frequency of reboots when I disable my wifi. Could some of my router settings be messing with the phone? I tried deleting the network on the phone and re-adding it, but the reboots remained consistent.

still sounds like hardware really, as suggested.
does it reboot even with the phone in airplane mode?
But the phone doesn't reboot when I'm in the city where my university is located, only when I come back home. That doesn't really lead me to believe that it's the hardware.
I have the same problem with the
[1.Dec.2012][All in One] EvoHD2v10 ICS 4.0.4-full HWA "Fastest ICS ever"
it reboots more than 3x a week!!!!!!!
For me, it can literally get up to 10 reboots per day, when I'm in this particular city. It gets very aggravating, and I'm worried about the stress it's putting on the hardware by constantly booting back up.
Anyway, I decided to say **** it and start from scratch. I don't think it's a hardware problem, so I decided to go back to the beginning. I formatted and re-partitioned my SD card for Native SD-compatibility. I flashed Xylo's 4.1.2 PA ROM. Now it's time to use it like I would normally.
If anyone is experiencing the same problem as me, or reads this in the future with the same issue, I'll try to keep the post up-to-date with what stopped the reboots for me.
dont forget to clear out your sd card, , leftovers from previous roms can cause issues. Easiest way is to flash teh new rom, then immediately in CWM do a wipe data/factory reset, as this clears out both fat32 and ext folders.
AW: [Q] Can reboots be caused by location?
I had the same problem with my fathers HD2. I installed clK before and it rebooted the last time quite often.
So I reinstalled everything. I started installing the official HTC WinMo 6.5 Rom.
Then I've done Task29 and installed MagLdr and then a Radio which Supports 576 MB Ram. (I think it was 2.15.xx) , repartitioned it for BlueOrange Mix Rom 1.2 (The best I ever installed so far) and flashed it in CWM.
So the HD2 is running since 150 Hours without any Problems.
P.S.: Task29, MagLdr, Radio Installation and Repartition has been done in HD2 All in one Toolkit.
Greetings by Myself5 and I hope I could help you.
