Sooo.. nothing but CMod GB - Hero CDMA General

Can't post in the development section and I'm not even sure it would belong there.
I read somewhere that AOSP was moving to a new phone and I was wondering if anyone had any intention of continuing or copying his work in a Ginger Mod. I appreciate the hard work by the CyanogenMod Devs but I really much prefer Aosp's bloat free insanely fast roms.
I saw someone posting something about the new CM nightlies and it sounded like he was celebrating or something(??). Considering Aosp's froyo mod kills all other sense and Cmod versions, I'd really love to see it continued on 2.3
Don't mean this as a flame statement or anything but I just found it curious that someone would try to bury Aosp's work when it has clearly been the best thing that's ever happened to my little Heroc.

You are aware the current 2.3 IS CM, right?

It is, but it isn't... The official CM7 is only just now supposed to come out with a few nightlies. Aosp has been stable for a month now (well, stable enough for daily use) so it's got to be different somehow. I'm waiting for Aosp to branch off like with his froyo mod.

I agree, I want a pure google 2.3 but don't have the ability to do it my self

It's different in the fact that the CDMA Hero wasn't added to official (keyword, official) CM7 support until the other day. That's about it, since it's synced to CM7 repo and everything.

Team Whiskey

Please make a super themed Nexus S rom. I know we all Nexus S Gingerbread owner's have a pure Google experience but, it's not the same unless we have a pure Developer experience. I'm asking Team Whiskey because you guys worked miracles on the Vibrant. I know that Team Whiskey will get my support and, lot's of other happy Nexus S owners. I'm very happy with this phone but, with a great touch of Team Whiskey everything is awesome and nice. What's your take on my thought, good or bad? please post your thoughts thanks.

Hi have you tried the bionix rom with trinity kernel?
Check out the dev section on the nexus s forum
Bionix rom is out but it hasn't been updated in a while. Known reboot issue but I think the team whisky guys other than morphic are busy working the kinks out and making ui options for their new bionix vibrant rom. Here's to hoping they come back soon for us. I love cyanogenmod for this phone and others but I pretty much only used teamwhiskey roms the entire time I had my vibrant and they were awesome. Some of the most polished roms out there and usually amazing battery life with all the speed and enhancements

Yes I flased the bionix rom for the Nexus S and, I went into the Vibrant Android development section and flash the newest bionix rom for the Vibrant and, boy it was wow! If I might say. The bionix Team Whiskey rom for the Vibrant is what made me throw out this post; that rom was that great! Besides, the bionix rom for the Nexus S...it just didn't have much of Team Whiskey in it. Coming from the Vibrant's Team whiskey work to the Nexus S Team Whiskey work, you would know something was missing.

their latest 1.3b is stable
if you want OC, you can always add trinity to it
besides, there are no new Google updates yet, there's no need to have a new ROM every week, just for the sake of flashing something new every week
if you are a flash addict, might as well go try CM7 or any other ones available with daily changes

I thank the gods of android that I broke the flash a day rom addiction I'd developed with my i9000 and N1! Such a time consumer trying to keep up on that treadmill.
I really am 95% or better satisfied with stock rom, still.
Might try netarchy kernel, for the voodoo sound improvements though...

They're that good, huh? I've been pretty loyal throughout my N1, MT4G and NS days to Cyanogen. During my time with the Vibrant, I was too busy being pissed off at both Samsung and the Odin app to try flashing ROMs besides Eugene's.

No. They're not on the same caliber at all, CyanogenMod and TeamWhiskey's works are two separate things.
CyanogenMod doesn't base their ROMs off OTAs. They base their ROMs from AOSP SOURCE.
Whereas, Team Whiskey use the OTA as the base of their ROM. I'm assuming that when CM7 is released as stable then they'll base their ROMs off that.
But in the end, I will always give the team at CyanogenMod more credit because they are building from AOSP source whereas TeamWhiskey just base off OTAs and add things on top of it.
Flame me all you want, but this is just my two cents and I'm laying out the facts here. I don't have any favoritism to any group or a fanboy of CyanogenMod but I tend to have much more respect for people who build from AOSP source because this takes a lot more effort rather than basing off a ROM that is already built together and adding things on top of it.
I was referring to Team Whiskey and Eugene with regards to the Vibrant.

Oh okay. Because you quoted something with Cyanogen in there too.
Just saying that the two should never be compared to each other, its a incompatible comparison.
Interesting thread....i kind of agree also. I lve tried a lot of the different roms available for my nexus and every time i keep going back to bionix.
So far i just found them to be the most friendly when it comes to battery life...also extremely speedy and stable overall.
I would likr to see more themes and customisation options tho. But yep...overall, you cant really go wrong with bionix. I been on the beta 1.3 release for about 2 weeks now and no real issues.
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
ya, this is way off...i didn't ask how CyanogenMod differs from Team Whiskey. This has nothing to do with CyanogenMod.
I asked how the Team Whiskey Bionix rom for the Vibrant differs from the Team Whiskey Bionix rom for the Nexus S? The author of the quoted message above stated that the Virbant version is better and I would like to know in which ways since I can't compare the two. I'm still wondering if anyone can answer please.

Umm..so far all the Gingerbread roms that are out are still having some issues...low in- call volume, no hardware acceleration(videos), no flashlight...etc...and aren't quite fully functional as Froyo is just yet..which is perfectly understandable...

Completely understand your frustration. Unfortunately, if the devs don't have a full, stable source drop to work with, we really can't hold the current crop of common /generally recognized GB issues against them. Heck, they're probably more frustrated about it than the rest of us

Getting an atrix to play with

Getting an atrix to play with and have a couple questions.
is there an Miui?
How many custom roms are there?
What are people looking for in custom roms?
Sent from my SGH-I777 using xda premium
1) MIUI in progress, look in the dev forum, should be a thread there
2) there are a lot of custom roms based on the stock GB firmware and the CM7 firmware(all with various tweaks). I really don't know how much though.. 10? refer to #1.
3) personally I need something lean and fast... I could care less about fingerprint and webtop.
If I got the the right rdannar, he is a talented dev from the x10 forum a while back. I hope you consider producing a Rom or two. What we need is if possible a very light blur Rom built for speed and fully functional. Or you can team up with the miui or cm team for webtop ideas. Glad your considering helping us with the ATRIX. Ninja, Darkside, Aura, CM7 (All the roms based on CM7 as well) are either de-blurred or have 2 different versions, one with blur or very minimal blur. What exactly are you looking for?
1. MIUI is currently in Alpha 2, no details on the Beta release yet, but here's the thread.. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1383721
2. Quite a few ROM's for the Atrix.
-Darkside ROM (Nottach)
-Alien ROM (Kenneth from Briefmobile, not being updated)
-Aura (Diviance, not being updated anymore I believe)
-CM7 (Atrix Dev Team, working on CM9 now)
-Ninja (Sam Cripp)
-GingerMod (Evogp)
-RedPill and RedPill CM7 Hybrid (Dorian from Atrix Forums Website)
There's more but that's some of them, most of them rather that I know are still on the 1-2 page.
3. Mainly, when I look to flash a ROM, I would like it to be stable, smooth, fast, minimal blur or none at all.

Joke? don't underestimate the developers on THIS phone, of all phones ) I'm gonna definatelly keep an eye on these forums. if nothing else i expect someone starting a WIP thread, an AOSP built rom, most likely not fully functional ofcourse, but compiled enough to boot up, just to give us a taste while development begins in earnest
This is just what was needed to jump-start development for the SIII
I'm curious, with Verizon's S3 flashing abilities currently being limited to roms stripped of kernels, how will this affect a jellybean rom? Is the ics kernel the same as the jb kernel?
Just rambling here, no disrespect intended and none meant at all just want to learn as much as possible....ICS source has been available the whole time, why wouldn't we have seen a CM9 build if it were that simple (as to have source)? Just cause source for 4.1 is out, it is going to make it that much easier to build an AOSP rom now? Again just trying to learn I know people are pretty snappy at questions like these, lol.

Reason people are saying that we could see CM10 soon is because the CM team think the code should be able to merge right into what they have with CM9, and not break that many things. With CM7 to CM9, they had to basically do everything from the ground up again because ICS was such a huge update over GB. Now JB isn't that big of an upgrade over ICS, in a way it is, but in a way it isn't. Sorry if that sounds confusing.

Reason people are saying that we could see CM10 soon is because the CM team think the code should be able to merge right into what they have with CM9, and not break that many things. That's easy to understand, and not what I'm asking... what you are saying is its easy to incorporate 4.1 to 4.0, just like it was easy to go to 2.2 to 2.3... I'm asking why is everyone so excited to get 4.1 AOSP, when we don't even have 4.0 AOSP?

Just rambling here, no disrespect intended and none meant at all just want to learn as much as possible....ICS source has been available the whole time, why wouldn't we have seen a CM9 build if it were that simple (as to have source)? Just cause source for 4.1 is out, it is going to make it that much easier to build an AOSP rom now? Again just trying to learn I know people are pretty snappy at questions like these, lol.

I am no dev, but heres how i understand it works;
we start with an announcement of an OS, this is done generally at Google I/O or a Nexus Event, in this case was Google I/O.
On the announcement day, devs receive the SDK; Software Development Kit.
This is released to allow the devs to begin making apps that match and run on the new OS. However, aspiring rom devs then begin to build a rom off the released SDK, generally called an sdk port.
These tend to be made simply to give us an idea of how the system would work and function, and generally might boot up and have a couple working things, but major things tend not to function because the SDK is not made for that.
Then comes the Source code, this is the real deal, it is full code of the system, code that can then be compiled to produce a fully working system, or nearly fully working. Only thing that remains missing is proprietary drivers and such, these tend to be the things specific to each phone, files that would make particular chips work, particular functions, the specific phone kernel, etc. but once you have the source code, you're over 80% done as far as having the resources needed to develop a full rom. at this stage, some devs can produce a fully working, stellar rom, but it will take quite a bit more work than devs who choose to wait for the final stage
Then comes the OTA. this is where all the device-specific stuff comes to the devices, and devs have the absolute and complete freedom to produce a fully working, better than stock, experience. This is where roms flood the dev forums.
So as far as not having AOSP yet, and now this is our chance at AOSP? No, thats not why we dont have AOSP. we dont have it cause no one built it yet; the Touchwiz UX is sooo integrated in the system that untangling and taking it all out is a long and drawn out process, and theyd need to deconstruct what we currently have, take out elements of touchwiz until its all clean, all the while making sure it doesnt break anything else.
but getting the jellybean source code propels devs because now this is a new OS, a new AOSP with its own new interesting properties. and because Jelly bean is a small update compared to ICS, now that we have source code, many of the device specific stuff wont be broken by implementing jellybean code into it, therefore building a Jellybean rom is a faster path to AOSP than untangling the current ICS for Galaxy S III
Does that make sense?

AOSP in this case is talking about the actual Android Open Source Project. so it is a bunch of code. so why are we excited? we've had ICS AOSP code for nearly a year now, what we dont have is AOSP roms. building an ICS AOSP rom is much harder than building a JB Rom, and we currently have icecream sandwich on the SIII even if its touchwized, and undoing touchwiz is quite a bit of work. but Jellybean...Oh Jellybean, now we got the source, we will start getting that baby soon and it'll boost dev on these devices. make sense?

Not sure if you were trying to come off rude or not, but people are excited because its the newest update, duh. Reason being we don't have 4.0 AOSP is because the phone hasn't been out that long for the US carriers.
