Although the majority seems to be waiting for the wifi xoom. I wonder if is just me waiting for the gsm model. I have the galaxy tab unlocked from tmo which I used without any problems recently in Germany. I got my xoom from Costco therefore (90 days return); so the CDMA is no going to make it if you want to use it abroad. I know you can tether but I prefer interchanging chips. Anybody else?
No more "grand master silicon"
Grand Master Silicon? Hell yeah. I also might buy one of those gsm-enabled versions... as I'm on tmobile..but the vzw device itself is in fact gsm capable.. to some extent

+1 Grand Master Silicon. LOL.
But seriously, yes I'd want a GSM model to be able to put in a SIM card, but only if it had all bands, not just 1900/2100 for T-mobile. I'd like to have it be capable for all bands but we can dream right?
They're already making a GSM Xoom, but its being released in Germany first. We already know the GSM exists its just up to Verizon to decide when to release the grip on Motorola's balls for the US launch.

Unfortunately the xoom is not "Grand Master Silicon" capable as it is a different technology, unless I got all this wrong? Let's hope verizon release moto balls soon.

lol.... he's making light of the fact that you misspelled "GSM" as "GMS" in your post like 5x, including the title.
yea I'm currently waiting for GSM xoom, would buy the wifi version instead but I'm on unlimited data plan so why not get 3G model and turn my xoom into a wireless hotspot when I'm not using it

nah I'm not from the US, so my carrier is alien to you all, my carrier has a student plan for data only (which I use for internet) about 30USD per month (7.2Mbps)

There's a thread (... or two?) where people have been playing around with turning their devices into GSM devices, some with more success than others. I personally wish it had been released with GSM/UMTS (provided it's unlocked and quad-band) as I travel a fair amount to GSM countries and it'd be nice to buy a local SIM and use my Xoom there, too. If such a device is released for the US market I'll probably get one, if there's a large enough gap between that one and the Xoom 2 (or maybe that'll be the one they release as GSM?)
The hardware does appear to be there in the CDMA VZ version (the same chip is used for both, but based on what one hacker has done, there's apparently some minor remaining issues with the baseband code).
Just get an MZ601? They're quadband, and everything.

I was more meaning to answer the thread rather than your post specifically, though anyway...
motorola are marketing the Xoom with wifi like its an upgrade from a "just 3g" model.
Now with this in mind, is the standard xoom, with 3g and wifi and the "with wifi" model just with wifi? as if that is the case, ive bricked my xoom with the wrong firmware xd
anyone know?

They are not the same, 2 different models. You need to use wifi stuff for the wifi version.

I couldn't find release dates for 3G versions of the 10.1 or 8.9 tab in the US. Do we know those yet? Thinking about replacing my Xoom, but it's gotta have 3G (or 4G, of course).

Nope, they're unconfirmed. It'll be on LTE 'later this year'.
I think its unbelivable that here, in Europe, Motorola hasnt released yet update for our Xoom.
In USA its available 3.2, Acer released 3.1 weeks ago and My xoom still 3.0.1...
Please Euro developers make a rom 3.2 for 3g Euro Xoom

I can't help you with rom, but lets get the facts straight. Motorola has not released anything. The US Motorola Xoom is a Google Experience Device and Google has released the updates for it, they come directly from Google servers.
I would love a tablet with 3G, the only problem is that the US 3G Xoom isn't compatible with our networks here in Europe and that's why i have a WIFI only bought from US. I have looked at all 3G tablets in Europe and the only reason why i haven't bought one yet is that i don't want to wait for updates. Not one manufacturer is good at delivering updates... So i guess i have to wait for the next GED and hope it's compatible with our 3G networks.

yes, but asus, acer released the upgrade; and acer and asus are not google experience...
European 3G version seems to be available in Germany and I'm thinking about ordering one... But I have some question before i order. I understand that the European 3G version comes with Touchwiz, is there a ROM without Touchwiz available for it? I have searched and read all the threads in development section but there is no mention about European 3G version.
Also i haven't seen any posts from European 3G owners. Why is that?

I'm also looking for the same, but for reasons unknown to me there are no custom roms for the P7500, yet. Afaik, you could try to flash a P7510 rom, but you will loose 3g. My best guess is that the 3g roms will come when more users have bought them.

yes mate.....european 3g version has TW preinstalled. got mine on friday in o2 store Dusseldorf(think i am first in my city). I have moto Xoom also but i like TW interface

I ordered mine from cyberport.de, hope to receive it this weekend.
I like Xoom because it's pure Honeycomb, so I'm afraid I'm not going to like Touchwiz (white menus and gray bottom bar). Xoom 3.2 has been ported to Iconia A500, so i'm hoping it will be possible to port it to GT10.1 also...
Hi,
I am looking forward to buy a 3g galaxy tab, do you know if it has microsd slot?
Thank you

Sorry, no SD card slot for the Galaxy Tab 10.1 (3G and Wifi), at least not for the model no. GT-P7500 or P7510. There are a few site still advertising the SD card slot but the Tabs are all missing that slot.
hmm the more i read about all those issues, the more i might just get an motorola xoom to have stock android...
1. it's not sure whether the I/O tab will keep getting stock android updates or not
2. i don't know if i will be able to flash stock i/o android on a german 3g galaxy tab
My only problem is that the xoom is just to heavy, especially since im going to read a lot of news/rss feeds on the tab, so having a light tab is very important...
Can anyone who bought the Galaxy Tab in Germany confirm if the language can be changed to English? Those HoneyComb tablets like the Transformer and Iconia i see in Saturn and MediaMarkt only have German.

I'm sorry to say this, but if you want a 3G tabled then don't buy a Xoom. European Xoom's are not GED, so they don't get updates from Google. As far as i know, the European Xoom's still run 3.0.1.
If 3G isn't important to you, then you can buy a WIFI only Xoom and flash US software on it to make it GED.
I need a tablet with 3G connectivity, that's why i ordered a GT10.1

oh thanks for the info. i wasn't aware of that. what a pity cause i can get a motorola xoom 3g with 32gb for 499 euros as im working in a telekom company.
but tmobile doesn't sell wifi only versions...well then i might also get an galaxy tab anyway, but still hope that we will be able to somehow flash the google i/o firmware on it....so if i understand correctly i should try to get a wifi only galaxy tab to make a GED?

As far as i know, only US Xoom's are Google Experience Devices. It is possible to flash European WIFI only Xoom with official US Xoom software to make it GED. It's not possible with 3G Xoom because of different radios in EU and US versions. But there is a custom 3.2 ROM that reportedly works also on European 3G Xoom's, so thats a option.
About WIFI only GT10.1, as far as i know, even the IO version is not GED. If it was, then it would already have Android 3.2.
I See, so flashing the us Rom on a European xoom with 3g wouldn't work at all?
I wouldn't care if I lose the 3G, but since I can get the 3g version for the price of the regular WiFi only xoom, I might still get the 3G one (so I can sell it for more later).

I'm not sure if it's possible to flash the official US 3G ROM on European 3G Xoom, i believe i have read that it will mess up the radio firmware.
But like i said, there is a custom 3.2 ROM available that works on European 3G Xoom.
Check Xoom development forums. Here it is a little off topic i think.
