[Q] Getting Wildfire to Diag Mode Without PC49Diag.nbh - Wildfire General

Is there a way we get into daig mode without the pc49diag.nbh file so that we can clear the security flag?
Its just a idea i have and a question.
I found a pc49diag.zip file but that was a rom.zip renamed and it booted from hboot without the use of a goldcard. As with the gold card it wouldn't even load the files.
Idea being if we can get diag mode just like how the XTC Rebel clip does then it might be a better way without the £150+ price tag if its for one phone.

Hi,
Please format your SD and uncompress from the zip attached.
Boot with power+volume down, after a few seconds it will "jump into DIAG" and boot the P49diag.nbh, select power, it will fail, press the dial, it will say "Waiting for Radio Ready" then you can clean S58 Data (I guess simlock and S flag).
Now this works on my device but it may not work on yours. Then PC49diag.nbh seems to be signed, it may have been leaked from HTC. If it was created by XTC Clip in a device specific way then the HTC private signing keys were leaked as well, doubtful but who knows.
Let me know how it works out for you.

Sorry, forgot the attachment. Here it is.

I tried this with the XTC clip version and it didn't clear any flags just error att'd! will try though!

Thanks for the info. It's wierd that the XTC Clip didn't work on your Buzz. What error message did you get exactly? Did you get to the "Waiting for the Radio" message?

no the XTC Clip worked but the diag file will not work without the clip or it shouldn't i just ran the file without the clip and it just removed S-On which is strange.
So here is the question where did you get the file from if its from the XTC clip then you might get some stick for releasing that file out.

Hi,
Thanks, what do you mean by "removed S-On"? Did you get to the "clean S58 data" menu? Was your phone S-OFF and did you switch to S-ON?
If you managed to get to the menu without the fake SIM attached, then no SIM vulnerability is being exploited and this is just the engineering bootloader being loaded, and somehow it has access to DIAG mode on the radio and can modify NVRAM. Which shouldn't normally happen without some kind of signature verification, in which case either HTC (or Qualcomm?!) screwed up, or their signing keys got leaked.

It's about time someone had the balls to release this file.
Didn't work for me personally (well it booted into diag mode but S-off failed with a timeout).
However I did gain some useful info for my own project I've been working on.
Thank you very much, have searched high and low for this.
TOP MARKS TO THIS MAN.
P.S anybody know anything about cold boot flags?

When you say press the dial, what do you actually mean.
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA App

it was S-On but on Hboot 0.80 so not sure fully.

well I tried it and yes I could get into diag mode and go all the way to the end but I got an error and could not get rid of s-on. Maybe there is something else we need to add. Did anybody try to flash a custom rom with an older hboot when in the diag mode?

Which hboot version do you have?

thanks!

nwpmikey: The thingy at the bottom, looks like a circle.
And please don't thank me, thank whoever leaked the file from HTC. I merely posted it whatever was on my SD card.
Other people who used the XTC Clip: please post your PC49DIAG.nbh here so we can compare the difference (if any).
My HBOOT in an old one, from May 2010, afaik. It may have been downgraded by unrevoked3. Version 08.0002 iirc. Not changed by the switch to S-OFF, of course.

I'm trying to use the file on hboot 1.01.0001/S-ON/Stock 2.2.1(2.22.405.1 WWE) and it does not work (wrong image error).
Any ideas?

Hey,
Thanks to everyone for trying it. The PC49DIAG.nbh must be customized by the XTC Clip in some way, so that it becomes device-specific and will not work on other devices. Since it *seems* to be signed, this could mean that HTC's private signing key leaked and are somewhere inside the XTC Clip itself. So making a software version of the XTC Clip will be a matter of extracting the keys or whatever firmware is inside the clip.
If someone else who turned their wildfire to S-OFF could post their PC49DIAG.nbh, that would be very helpful. It may not give the solution immediately, I guess we'd need to investigate more. Also "rtask C" (aka talk to the radio) looks like a promising path, but I couldn't get it working yet.

I've found a file called pc49diag.rar on a chinese forum but I cannot register to download it.

I also found http://www.mediafire.com/?i09yp4r7odhlzws (PC49IMG.zip)
Despite the name, it lacks the nbh file -- just a recovery (and the zip is not signed, obviously you can't flash it since you're S-ON).
I found another link, PC49diag.zip 128MB file but it's actuelly just another stock ROM. This one is signed, but DO NOT FLASH IT, it will update everything (radio, recovery, hboot etc.).

I have 2.2.1 with hboot 1.01.0001 S-ON and built number 2.22.405.1
With the file supplied in here, I can get into the diag mode and by hitting the action key get to the clean S58 Data screen. But when I tried to clean the data, it threw an error and could not S-OFF the device.
UPDATE: I made a goldcard, and tried the procedure again. But this time I could not get into the DIAG mode at all.. So if you have a goldcard in your SD slot, that maybe the reason for not working in your case.

Hi,
Thanks for trying this. A couple question:
- could you write down the exact error message after you ran clean S58 data?
- can you try the "Device Info" menu? Does it work?
- can you try the Flash menu (power button before it waits for the radio) with an unsigned update.zip on your SD? For example the one that flashes a recovery (see mediafire link above)

[Q] Trying to Unbrick, promise this isnt from a clueless person.

Hello all,I have searched and search but to no avail no option have worked for me yet. I need to unbrick my phone, yes I can still get into hboot and fastboot so there is some hope. I have tried multiple times to flash a sappimg to allow me to flash a recovery radio and boot, just none have worked.Even the ones that did appear to work, got stuck at unzipping.
Everytime I would try to flash something through flashboot it will just fail a signature check, and if I try to use fastboot to boot into a recovery,it just hangs till my battery dies out or I pull it out.
This is my fastboot info
SAPPHIRE UNKNOWN 32A SHIP S-ON H
HBOOT_1.33.0009 (SAPP31000)
CPLD-12
RADIO-3.22.20.17

To give a basic run down this is what I am experencing
1.Cannot locate a suitable sappimg
2.Fastboot and Hboot are running, but security is on so I can flash another recovery radio or boot.
3. Cannot get into any type of OS
4. Cannot load into a recovery through fastboot
5. SAPPIMG stops a unzipping or fails signing check.
I don't want to beg for help,I am just all out of ideas to try to fix it,have search and such and the last way for me to fix it would be run it over with my car and take it through insurace =(
So if anyone could lend a hand I would much appreciate it.
Fix your goldcard!
You need to remake the goldcard...
You should not get signing errors with a working goldcard.
Easier said then done sadly,I would need to actually get into the OS to do the adb command to get the string of numbers to input into the thing that reverse engineers the number to create a gold card =( Using the goldcard I had when I flash the first time though,I dont suppose anything would change.
have tried to use the sappimg from recovery or fastboot?
You can use it from both... try it out if you have not done it before
ps: try to see whats inside the sappimg.zip you have... if you cannot see inside, you need to rename it sappimg.nbh and not sappimg.zip...
Maybe thats why you are getting unzip/signing errors!
I have tried everything except for renaming the .zip to .nbh, let me give that a roll and post back!
Renaming it with .nbh didnt work, didnt even process it a bit, just straight back to hboot beginning menu
rename it to update.zip do it in recovery!

In the original post I stated I cant even get into recovery =(,not even by loading it with fastboot. The only tools I have right now are hboot and fastboot =(
Serousley contemplating just running it over and going through my insurance, but a $130 deductible is a bit rough.
Any other options available?
i'm uploading my sappimg.nbh which i used to my device.
It's the same fastboot info.
It worked for me in fastboot using a goldcard..,. 100 %

Model Version is older Update fail,so I would probably have to remake a goldcard, but cant do that since I cant get into the OS at all =(
Unless there is an external way to do that, anyone have any ideas or am I officially taking the tire to the mytouch
I thought so... non-functional goldcard.
Find someone around you and use his android...
The only solution !
would it have to be the same model as my phone or does it matter? My friend has an evo
Or wait I still have the a goldcard.img on my computer,if its the old one couldnt I just redo the hexedit?
Does not matter... any device will do.
Just make it right... read, read, think, read, think then do :0)
Alright well I had the old goldcard.img in my gmail,so I just downloaded and I hexed it,and to no avail still the same error. Redid the flash twice on 2 different cards.
do you still have the nr you wrote down?
No i dont believe so,maybe its possible to reverse engineer the goldcard image? Or maybe even someone upload thier image if the model of the phone doesnt matter,I can do the hexwork myself.
No go... Its sdcard specific.
So every sdcard has it's own goldcard img
You just need the string/tag nr for the sdcard... use any device to get this...
Then make the goldcard.
If you could find the tag nr you used for the goldcard img in your mail, you could make a new one (the right way) :0)

Maybe someone here could make a goldcard and mail it to you? Or what about all those rooting services on CL? Maybe someone has a goldcard you can use.
Well I have two potential ideas
1. I have the 8g sandisk thats come with the 3.5mm headphone jack mytouch through t-mobile,if someone has something similar maybe I can use thier gold image or
2. I have a Motorola phone, very old, think its a rizir? anyway I had a mini sd port, maybe I could pop it in, find the usb cord for it and get the number I need to make a gold card that way?
Alright heres an update,in case this will help anyone within the future, I just booted into a ubuntu VM I had and ran the command to get the CID for my sd card, so was able to do that and get a new goldcard.img, still doesnt seem to be flashing through sappimg though =(
Maybe it is completly bricked.

Having trouble installing clockwork recovery

My phone was made s-off via xtc clip.
It's rooted with superoneclick (couldn't get unrevoked to work).
ROM Manager is in the superuser list and has been granted root access.
In ROM Manager I click "flash clockworkmod recovery", select "HTC Buzz (Wildfire)" and it says "successfully downloaded clockworkmod recovery".
But every time I click "reboot into recovery" I just get a black screen with a phone in the middle and a red triangle.
I then have to remove the battery to get the phone back on.
Any ideas folks ?
I read somewhere that the current version of ROM manager doesn't work with Android 2.2.
Is this right ?
I tried an older version and it appeared to try and install clockwork recovery for a few seconds then I got a black screen with a phone and a red question mark.
try flashing custom recovery with PC49IMG process. get the file from here.

and one more thing, if u get issues with flashing custom roms then try to use different version of recovery.

Thanks for the reply.

U do have another option. Can try an official RUU of ur region with the radio Radio_13.53.55.24H_3.35.19.25
this gives u hboot 0.80 . Then u can root the phone with unrevoked (use version 3.2).

And better get it from shipped roms website if u havent started the download yet.

Sorry, cant go further. That might be due to region. I think there might be ur region RUU in that website there. Don't know completely to solve cid errors. Probably a gold card might be the solution.
But there are solutions for cid errors. Go with this thread (same one as earlier), it might help u. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=993102
Thanks again for all your help so far, much appreciated.
I found a multi region RUU with the same kernel as the one I'm on.
Do you think flashing this will allow me to then flash one of the older RUUs ?
Also, if I do this will it make my phone s-on again ?

When ur phone has S-OFF (by xtc clip) u can flash any wildfire RUU of ur region (i mean downgrading hboot is also possible). Yes u can flash older RUU also, that's what u attempted to do with that WWE ruu.
Once u do S-OFF by xtc clip, then u can't get back to S-ON in any way. XTC clip directly wipes off the secure flag in the radio NVRAM. So, AFAIK, there is no way for u (by xtc clip) to get back to S-ON even when u flash an updated hboot.
But alpharev2 (not yet released for wildfire) will patch the hboot to make it think that the secure flag is off. So, if done by alpharev S-OFF is not permanent. When done S-OFF with alpharev, then if u flash an updated hboot, the phone returns to S-ON. This is not the case with u.
Tried the RUU with the same kernel that's on my phone but got the "customer ID error" again.
I'm starting to think something went wrong when they used the xtc clip.
When I get the red triangle in HBOOT, if I press vol up + power I get the message "failed to verify signature".
I thought having s-off was supposed to bypass the signature checks

AFAIK, after S-OFF it should skip the signature check. That is how we can flash the custom recovery through PC49IMG process.
There is a full guide of XTC clip rooting in the development section. If u think something went wrong when they used xtc clip, u might get an answer there. link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1057524
And also one more link to what we can do after S-OFF here.

In that try the fastboot flash recovery command. May be a hope
Woo hoo, success !!
I made a goldcard and the RUU installed fine.
I now have Android 2.1 and HBOOT 0.80.0007.
I guess the goldcard is where I was going wrong.
Edit : Just got unrevoked to work first time too.
And now I've got CM7 installed !!!
A very happy bunny.
Many thanks again for the help and advice.
Wouldn't have got it working without this forum.

Yeah, it is known. The fact why is now important the XTC Clip is not for doing gold card. It is important because it is needed to unlock the upgraded 1.01.xxx hboot of the Froyo 2.2 HTC official update, which made Wildfire unrootable if you upgraded or recently bought the phone.
but, if i flash recovery with PC49IMG with goldcard and then flash Safe Buzz_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.22.405.1 Rooted.zip ?

Everything has been already tried. And the answer is no. This Safe Buzz_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.22.405.1 Rooted.zip is the ROM extracted from the RUU, but the hboot has been deleted so it is not upgraded. Nothing else, it doesn't change the hboot.
With hboot 1.01.xxx you won't be able to do anything that touches the hboot, not even with GoldCard.

S-ON checks the signature of the files to be updated.
It is not possible to flash a custom recovery through pc49img process when on S-ON. And gold card cannot skip the signature check. Gold card is just useful for carrier locked phones.

Alpharev won't actually turn off the secure flag in the radio NVRAM like xtc clip does. Alpharev overwrites the stock hboot with a patched hboot to make the hboot think that the secure flag is off. So, it will not actually target the secure flag (which is not located on the hboot)

GoldCard is a special SD card which, when inserted into your device, allows you to flash RUU files with a different CID to your own device. For example, if you own a T-Mobile branded device, this will allow you to flash a generic ROM.
And little more clearly.
Special sdcard means u donot need to buy a new sdcard. Gold card is an sdcard patched with a 1 KB file specific to ur device. And that specific file depends on ur device serial number. And some reported that the gold card made with the stock sdcard on wildfire will not work.

Recovery turns out to be nothing, I can't get to it. Might be, because there is no CWM on it.
I was lucky to be able to root and s-off my DHD, so I don't have any idea, how to fix this problem with the Wildfire.
Any suggestions how to solve this little problem?
Thanks in advance

- Rename this zip to PC49IMG.zip
- Place this on the root of the sd card
- Reboot in HBoot mode, the phone will detect the file and will attempt to install. Select Yes and let it proceed.
Thanks, I'll do that when I'm done in University :-D
Just so I have more opportunities in case this happens again.
Could you give me a link to a instruction how to root and s-off?
This would help
And, just in case, which do you think is the best Custom Rom for the Wildfire?
You can use Revolutionary to get S-OFF and Clockworkmod Recovery. Guide here:
http://joel5121.blogspot.com/2011/06/wildfire-22-root-tutorial.html
The only thing that has changed is AlphaRev's Website. The new address is revolutionary.io. Everything else remains the same. Although, you will need a booting device to get it to work.
Lastly, ROM choice depends on whether one would like to keep HTC Sense or not. If not, then I would go with Cyanogenmod / Oxygen (Two ROMs I am pretty sure are available for the DHD as well). And, if you would like to keep HTC Sense, then the current favorites are DK Custom ROM and RemPuzzleROM.
Complete Listing available in the Index Thread linked in my Sig.
Good Luck
I only want to flash a ROM on the Wildfire. My dhd runs on arhd and I won't change that well, unless there's a newer version of arhd
Anyways, what is the best sense ROM
for the Wildfire? Should run smooth but stable and fast. And of course it should've good battery life
Sent from my refrigerator using Tapatalk
I'm stuck myself. Wildfire is working again, but neither can I root nor can I make S-OFF.
On AlphaRevX it "sends in Caroline" and "Caroline" comes out with an error report
However, USB-Debugging was turned on, SD Card active, connected to pc, but "only charge"...
That far for S-Off...
Then I'm trying unrevoked. Works so far, until the Wildifre is in the bootloader. Unrevoked tells me, it's waiting for bootloader. When I choose Fastboot on the device, unrevoked works on and tells me "Waiting for HBOOT to be ready..."
Nothing happens after that. If I choose Bootloader on the device, unrevoked tells me, that it has lost connection to the phone.
Then I tried Gingerbreak. Gingerbreak works, reboots the phone, I check for SU and can't find it. So I guess it's not rooted then :-/
Any suggestions?
Your only (free) option is Revolutionary on Wildfire's with official 2.2.1 and HBoot 1.01.x. Any other method (Unrevoked, Gingerbreak, SuperOneClick etc) will not work and will result in failure. Errors on Revolutionary can usually be treated EXCEPT when it says "Not writing bad block at mtd 0x00000", in which case, there are bad blocks on the NAND memory, and there is no fix yet.
The paid option is to find a store with an XTC Clip hardware box, which can S-OFF the Wildfire as well. They will charge you a 1-time fee for using it.

So since this is exactly the fault that is displayed, there is nothing I can do...
But this other tool for s-off ain't working either. If I'd have at least s-off...in this tutorials I first make s-off and afterwards there is a zip archive which will give me SU. Can I install cwm without Root? I'd really like to flash cyanogen...

No, unfortunately, as I stated in my previous post, you cannot.
The best option will be revolutionary but solve ur first problem and then move on to this...we r always here....

I've then tried to factory reset the device but when i select factory reset it stay stuck on the menu voice and i've to reboot removing the battery.
If i choose recovery it shows a green circle and an arrow in the center.

Uhh uhh uhh... until someone like niqper (or however you spell his name) comes in here and tells you to flash that PC10IMG, do NOT flash it, I'm not saying it will break your phone but considering you aren't rooted I'm thinking it's not at all necessary and I don't know the consequences.. So wait, can you access the bootloader by holding down + vol ? What happens exactly?

Hi! and thank you for your interess:
The phone is unbranded and not rooted.
It's impossible to boot normally
And selecting the recovery or the factory reset just freeze on the bootloader screen.
I've tried putting the PC10IMG.zip that I've found on the web but seems that I need a later version because all the version I've used are too old.
Code:
VISION PVT SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-0.85.0013
MICROP-0425
RADIO-26.10.04.03_M
eMMC-boot

Here is the RUU for your phone RUU_Vision_Gingerbread_S_HTC_WWE_2.42.405.2_Radio_12.56.60.25_26.10.04.03_M_release_199043_signed.exe
You can try just running the exe, or extracting the zip from it (run it, until it loads (says press next or whatever) and go to the %temp% dir in windows, and do a search for rom.zip, should be roughly 250mb)
It will be safe to flash, but will wipe all your data.
I do have a suspicion that you have a fried emmc chip, you seem to have some of the symptoms, so if it hangs during the flash that will be why, in which case you can't fix it and will need to get a replacement.

Thank you, I've extracted the rom.zip and uploaded it on the SD.
The process starts updating but hangs on the first step (updating bootloader).
I think that you are right the emmc is gone...

That's a real shame time to upgrade to SGS3 or One X ? I think sooo! I'm so glad we have a resident expert like niqper to help us out with general technical stuff though so when I make the change I'll definitely miss that !

My boot screen says:
Vision PVT ship s-on
HBoot 0.85.0013
Microp-0425
radio-26.10.04.03_m
eMMC-boot
Before it read:
Vision PVT Eng s-off
HBOOT-0.76.2000
MICROP-0425
RADIO-26.03.02.26_M
Its an HTC G2 but has the same problem with being stuck on the HTC screen
Is there an ruu for my phone? I tried the one above and it started fine, updated the first 2 then reset then when it reloaded it says "model ID incorrect"
You shouldn't of flashed that rom, thats for a DZ, not a G2.
You must've had fake S-OFF too.
You can try flashing this rom PC10IMG_Vision_TMOUS_2.15.531.3_Radio_12.52.60.25U_26.08.04.30_M3.zip
You better hope your main version is low enough to accept it though.
And that the DZ hboot accepts it (chances are it'll throw some sort of heap error)
You might be able to use a goldcard (which you need a functioning android phone to create) to allow the DZ stock rom to flash, though I can't guarantee anything.
Your phone not booting would be because the g2 hboot and dz hboot have their partition layout quite different, so its looking in the wrong place to try load android now.
