Hello, I'm having issues locking my phone with the power button. It is very fidgity where around 30% of the time it does not lock or sometimes a press initiates the power options. I am using the cm7 nightlys so I though it was the rom but then I flashed skyraider and the problem exist there.
So pretty much what I am hoping is that it can still possibly a software problem of some sort. I think I am kinda screwed if it is a hardware problem as I do not have insurance. Not to mention I like my amoled. Any ideas?
Sorry to say, but its most likely a hardware problem. Check with verizon to see if it can be replaced under warranty. I believe it has a 1 yr warranty so you would not need insurance. You probably would have to un-root first before returning.

so, My n-1 had an "intermittent" power button problem.
so tonight, I had sent a text to someone, and saw that I had no response, so I clicked on the power button, nothing.
I charged phone, and the light goes to green when fully charged.
I can't soft, or hard reset the phone, since I'm guessing the power button isn't working or something?
The last thing that I had noticed, was that google goggles had updated itself.
Also, plugging it into the computer isn't doing anything either. There was no overheat issue, and I'm running vanilla stock froyo not rooted.
any ideas on what to do before I call HTC tomorrow?
edit: weird, I finally got it to turn on, by plugging in the usb, and taking out, and reinserting the battery a few times. I guess, if it does it again, back to HTC it will go.... but it still seems that the power button itself is not working.
edit again!:
power button has definitely failed. I downloaded widgetlocker as a temporary fix.... if anyone has any ideas (i.e. hard resetting the phone etc.) let me know before I call HTC please.
It's a HW failure, you should get it replaced. And on the next one install a ROM that supports trackball wake, that'll leave your power button much less prone to damage.
Downloaded no wake and sent in for a new phone. Luckily 2:00 am hawaii time is 7:00 am est.
Edit. Program is no lock lol.
another n1 user in hawaii sweet! lol

Yes, but swapping Roms would kill the warranty and not enable me to get one repaired / replaced. ( yes I know most people with unlocked bootloaders got theirs fixed, but I'm not that lucky in life )

You can root without unlocking the bootloader and voiding the warranty. I never thought I'd do it, but I did and am so happy. It's like I have a whole new phone.

All my winmo phones needed new roms do I swapped like crazy. N1 was so solid out of the box I didn't feel the need to. On a side note. I'm still waiting for a shipping email. I wonder if they are out of stock?
Ok, so my phones rooted and the power button recently started sticking and just not working the past few days. should i unroot it before i bring it into sprint or will they probably not look at that? also what is their policy with this problem, will they replace the phone or send me to insurance?

Had this issue they replaced the button and it was fixed.
I would unroot just in case.
You don't want your line marked as rooted in case you ever have an issue again.
thats what i was thinking, better safe than sorry.
you could try to replace it yourself i you were game its quite easy to take the phone apart and you can get the Power button online. It maybe just dirt/dust or something making it stick.
bump for update from OP
So I'm having a bit of an issue. Had my nook for a few months now with relatively no problems. After upgrading to the new u-boot and .32 kerneled CM7, however, I noticed the power button became finicky. At first I thought it was software related, since it happened as soon as I upgraded, however I am not fairly sure it is hardware related. Frequently after pressing the power button to turn the screen on, the power menu pops up as if I held down the button. Often, it eventually powers down like I held down the power button. Furthermore, if I apply pressure near the power button, it acts like I pressed the power button. Needless to say, this sucks. So my questions are: is this most definitely hardware related as opposed to a software problem? And if so, is there any way to fix this by taking the nook apart? Or am I completely screwed? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you!
My wife is having the same issue on her NC running CM7. I am restoring it to stock now to see if the problem continues. If it does, I'll try to get it repaired or replaced...
I'll post back once I'm done and have had a chance to test things out.
I hate to bump this but did either of you ever get a fix? Mine's having the exact same issue...
Mine had a similar problem, but the power button completely stopped working after I applied an update. I had to send it back for a warranty replacement unit, which was a pain to deal with!
Similar issue but with the "n" button.
Hey everyone,
So I just got a replacement phone from T-mobile through a warranty exchange and have had an intermittent issue with it lately.
After using my phone I always press the power button quick to lock the screen and turn it off. Well when I do that it occasionally will go black for a second then turn back on in the locked state. It can take up to 6 or 7 attempts of pressing the power button quick to turn the screen off like it should.
Trying to use the power button to turn the screen back on once locked it has a similar issue but it will turn on for a second then go black again. This can take several attempts to get the screen to keep on so I can use the screen.
Anyone have an idea on a cause or even better a solution to this?
My best guess is a hardware issue that I cant do much about besides trying to do another exchange with T-mobile.
Any help is appreciated.
The warranty exchange phones are re-furbished phones and it isn't uncommon for there to be something wrong with the warranty replacement. Hopefully if you haven't rooted the phone then just call them back up and tell them that there is something mechanically wrong with the warranty replacement. They won't be surprised and they'll send out another one.
remember you can always unroot....
Well of course ... but I mean if he just got the replacement phone then he may not have rooted it so it's one step less prior to sending it back ... that's what I meant.
Hi all,
I have been coming to this forum for a while now but since I lost my login data I had to re-register and now can't post in the developers section.
My i9505 has one of the latest CM11 nightlies on it, and it worked fine apart from the device switching of for no appearent reason when in its holster (might have been unintentional pushing of buttons, I don't know) and sometimes not booting properly. Usually after some "convincing" by pushing the on button again it would start up eventually.
Today, it switched off again and now seems completely dead. No reaction what so ever when pushing/holding the "on" button, or the recovery or download button combo. When attaching the charger no animation is shown and the device seems to get pretty hot pretty fast.
Does anyone have an idea on what might be wrong, and is there anything I can still try to revive it, or should I just send it in for repairs? If it is dead no one can see there is a custom rom on it, right? So it should be covered by warranty...
Thanks upfront for any help!

As u said if your device "gets pretty hot in a very short time" maybe its a hardware problem(wrong chip)... Maybe some high voltage or someting...
Try a new battery, if that does not work, its dead I think..
