Tab is a mess all of a sudden - Galaxy Tab General

I have the verizon tab (US). It has worked great for months then a few days ago it drained the battery in a day with no usage. After a recharge battery is ok, but virtually all programs are constantly crashing. Getting a ton of forced close reports, and the thing is so unstable it is virtually unusable. I have tried soft and hard (factory) reset, and nothing seems to work. Though even after factory reset I see most of old programs still there causing problems.
Any ideas?

I'm afraid It's time to flash.
If you hook up the Tab to Samsung Kies, does it offer any OS updates? if not, I'd take a look at the ROM development section and research the least troublesome method for flashing a fresh rom on a verizon tab

HD2 w/ updated version of ROM freezing

I bought an HD2 last week that is already running the updated ROM (2.13.531.1) but the phone still freezes, turns off, then turns itself back on immediately. It does this several times a day. Is anyone else having this problem with the updated version? I love the phone, but it's getting really frustrating. I check the task manager frequently and close out of all programs that I'm not using. I don't really watch videos, listen to music or run multiple apps at once, and the phone goes through this freezing process during all different types of activities; there isn't any single app/activity that seems to trigger it. Also, I initially didn't realize that I had the updated version, so I waited a few days to install new apps (until I had time to update), thinking that I would have to re-install everything, and during that time the freezing did occur just as often, so I can't attribute it any app that I have installed. Once I realized that I already had the updated version, I installed a couple new apps.
Any advice on what could be causing this and what I might be able to do to fix it?
Any help is greatly appreciated.

have you tried a hard reset?

I had this problem with my HD2 also even when I had did plenty of hard resets and installed custom ROMS problem was the processor was bad so I got a replacement for my defective HD2 now the one i have now runs perfect does not freeze at all and the battery life is perfect im now running MAY 31 Energy ROM
I just did a hard reset. I am going to avoid installing any news apps for a few days to see how the phone does. I' ll post a reply in a few days to give an update. Thanks for the help.
same here.
I have been having this same problem since i have upgraded to the latest version from tmobile website. What is worse it that, i am also having problems with playing videos on youtube. The video would start to play and after few seconds it will freeze and makes a very loud and annoying sound, then shuts itself off and restart, sometimes freezing while restarting, so i had to take out the battery. Sometimes it would freeze right after it restarted. It's becoming so frustrating dealing with these everyday. 40 percent of my time using the phone is spent on restarting, taking the battery off and waiting.
someone please help. thanks!
Have you done a hard reset since installing the new ROM. It's recommended by the super intelligent people on this site. I am not there yet, but I did a few hard resets on my phone after upgrading to the new ROM and it works great.
i would either
1 go back to rom 2.10
or, more likely since its so new
2 go get a new one, see if its the same.
I received a text message from t-mobile indicating that a new update rom was available for install. After updating I noticed that the mobile phone would freeze for a split second and then instantly restart. After having the unit freeze several times throughout the day, I performed a hard restart and did not install any cabs. I noticed that it would freeze when I would go online.
Just yesterday I downgraded back to the original rom and no more problems.
After the hard reset last night, my phone froze several times in the next couple of hours. It even turned off, then back on three times when I wasn't even using it and the battery was full. I have only had the phone for five days, so decided that is wasn't worth the headache and I called T-Mobile to exchange it for a new one. Hopefully, I have better luck with the new one.
Well, I received the new one yesterday and it's doing the same thing. Not sure what to do at this point. I'm irritated that HTC and T-Mobile released this phone when it obviously wasn't ready.
HD2 Freezing issue: Try this
For everyone who's having tons of freezing issues with their HD2. I found something interesting. I got my HD 2 a couple of months ago in June. It ran for almost a month, no freezing but sadly I had to return that one because the output resolution was bad. Some kind of defect. The second one I got for a replacement didn't have much freezing issues but I did encounter a couple and then I installed BeeJive. That program freezes my HD2 sometimes. Then I discovered that my WI-FI wasn't working, no idea what happened. I tried everything thing I could but it would not work. So I did a hard reset.
After the hard reset, the HD2 freezes all the time and was soooo slooooooow. It was so bad that I could not work on it. Having experienced the HD2 before all the freezing issues, I know that it had to be something else causing the freezing. So I hard reset again and reinstalled my applications again and tested each to make sure it was working and not causing the frequent freezing and most importantly, the slooooowness.
So far so good. I still installed BeeJive because it's the best IM software I found out there that uses your data plan for IM. It still causes freezing but I know what functions will cause it so I try to avoid it. I also keep my list of installed applications down to reduce the chance that it's one of my infrequently used apps that's causing the freezing.
So if you're daring, hard reset your HD2, then install your most used applications first, test it, then installed the next frequently used application next, and so on and so on.
One more thing, I've discovered that the auto update for stocks, weather, and frequently direct pushed emails, as well as gmail/yahoo accounts will cause the HD2 to be slow. I still set my gmail to update every 10 minutes because it's my main account, but yahoo gets updated once an hour and outlook gets manually updated during work hours, since I'm at work, and gets direct push for the hours I'm awake at home. No need to push email when I'm asleep.
Another possibility for resolution - microSD card
I purchased a new microSD because I noticed that the one that came with the HD2 is a Class 2 device. I could not take videos for more than a minute and then it gets real choppy.
I bought a new Class 6 card. After getting the card, I tested it against the Class 2 card. Huge difference. It seems that SD card speed and HD2 performance are directly related. I tested the cards with the following applications: Opera Mini, Opera Mobile, BeeJive, Camera, Video Camera, and Email. On both cards, on certain programs, the card access goes down to below 1mbs. However, for the Class 6 card, it ramps up quickly. The class 2 card, being already slow, lingers. This in itself causes a huge lag and freezing. I discovered that on certain applications that froze before, it now doesn't freeze but it does take an extra 'second' to recover.
My biggest relief has been that BeeJive no longer freezes where it froze before on certain functions. I've been running for over a week now without any freezes. I'm not saying you should replace your SD card, yet. However, you can test it to see if the lag is causing the freezing.
A new 16gb card costs $75. Make sure you test it, if you decide to get one. I got 7mbs max access with mine and consistently got 6mbs, which is what it's suppose to be.

[Q] Mini freezes intermittently

Dear all,
Had been using mini for pass 5 months, recently it experiences intermittent freezing or slow down while in the midst of doing something such as writing a text memo. If i just wait awhile it will resume back normal. If not, it will hang. Just today I have to force soft reset the phone 3 times (taking out the battery and putting it back ). It is getting annoying as it has become more and more frequent. It is as though some background program has started running and it taking up the CPU resources only releasing it moments later.
Initially I thought it was due to phone network connection seeking to connect to 3G (I disable my 3G already) so I turn on the flight mode. But the intermittent freezing is still happening.
Another reason might be that I have a lot of programs running. This I reset the phone. It became better for a while but problem recurred soon after. I have Lumos, FTouchSL, B&B tweaks running in the background.
The only thing I have not done is a hard reset which I am trying to avoid as far as possible.
Any advice?
Hi, maybe BSB Tweaks create problems!
You have to restore the original settings in BSB Tweaks and see what happens later on...
If you have to soft reset too often, you'll probably need to have the unit replaced. My first unit requires a minimum of 5 soft reset each day. (Open back cover and take out battery). Since mini doesn't have any reset button, taking out battery too often will wear out the physical unit quickly.
Note, if you ask for replacement, be sure the new back cover comes with it. Some shops will force you to replace only the core unit, and let you take back the old back cover instead of the new one that comes with the new unit.
My second unit is better. It doesn't require soft reset everyday. In fact, it can last for several days without soft reset. Soft reset becomes a rare thing.
Unfortunately, my unit hangs every few weeks. Sometimes one week. Sometimes one month. No exact duration. When it does, only hard reset can cure it. And i lose all data.
I also found out the Sense UI is a very buggy and incomplete software. It's the cause of several headaches. You can disable it. But along with it, you lose many functions, which HTC stupidly tied up to the Sense UI, and remove from core functions of WinMo. I've been forcing HTC to do something about it, thru several complaints, but unfortunately, they're just sitting on it. Maybe until enough numbers of complaints come in before they will act.

My Froyo Nightmare

Some background...
I am using a stock unlocked Samsung Galaxy S purchased in the UK in June this year. The phone died about a month ago (just stopped completely dead in the middle of charging) and was returned to Samsung for repair. They returned it with the newer Update 1 (2.1/Eclair) firmware which was noticeably faster and smoother than my previous firmware.
Installing Froyo has been an absolute nightmare. It took several attempts with two different Windows XP machines just to get the Kies (total crapfest) software working. The first PC was nearly killed by all of the rubbish that Kies installs on the PC. Connecting the phone to the PC just caused total lockups and eventually caused some kind of CMOS data corruption which resulted in a non functioning PC (this required several hours to put right).
Finally got Kies running on my second XP laptop after a lot of phone connection issues surrounding the lack of correct Samsung Phone drivers (which I had to hunt down on the web).
Froyo itself seemed to work great initially. However, I was annoyed to see that the Phone Pad style keyboard's predictive T9 feature is almost completely disabled within the browser. I had to replace the keyboard with Touchpal. The flash in web pages works brilliantly for video and I wouldnt like to return to a phone without this feature. In terms of general speed and improvements in performance I cant say I can notice any difference - my previous Update 1 was just as quick & responsive as far as I can tell. Some of the small detail changes are nice, like folders support for bookmarks in the browser and page previews for each browser window. The new copy/paste controls are really neat, very iphone like though a little more clunky.
However the phone has now started rebooting itself randomly - does not appear to be any kind of pattern to the behaviour. I have tried everything to fix this but so far nothing has worked and the phone continues to reboot randomly. Problem is intermittent, so sometimes it will go 30 minutes before rebooting whilst other times it will reboot several times within minutes of switching on. Have removed SD card, formatted internal SD, factory reset (3 or 4 times) and have been running the phone in untouched stock configuration i.e. no apps, no google accounts, standard lock screens/wallpaper, no wifi settings etc. but none of this has resolved the issue. Phone is also switching itself on (after being switched off and left in drawer) and going into a repeating cycle of rebooting - its like the phone has been possessed!
I've given up now and will be returning the device for its second repair.
Tried a factory reset? Always worth a go. Is the device getting abnormally hot?
Yes, I have factory reset the device several times. The device is running in its original configuration like it would when switched on for the very first time after purchase. I have also subjectively checked device temperatures at time of reboots - most of the time the device is stone cold as it is normally not doing anything except sitting in standby.
Sound more a hardware problem from what you mentioned. If this is a sw bug, then sammy will be in huge trouble!

Factory Reset on Samsung Galaxy S5

HI guys, this is my first post on this forum, so forgive me if I put this thread in the wrong category. I heard you guys where the best when it came to Android, so I was hoping you could help me with my predicament.
I currently have a Samsung Galaxy S5 (SM-G900H) and this is my first android phone. I've had for over a year now, I got it sometime in June last year.
I updated my phone to Lollipop 5.0 about 3 months ago, and ever since there's been an aspect of my phone that's been faulty. The Samsung keyboard. My keyboard crashes at least once day, every day and it drives me crazy cause I prefer the default keyboard to the others I've downloaded such as the Google keyboard. It began to crash right after the Lollipop update. It usually crashes whenever I switch to emojis. (especially when I'm in the middle of typing a tweet) It freezes then the message "Samsung keyboard has stopped working" pops up on the screen. During my hunt for a fix, I came across clearing the cache and the data of the keyboard and wiping the phone's cache from the recovery menu. So far they've worked and my keyboard hasn't crashed again... I also came across performing a factory reset, which I read fixes most issues after a software update. It's the idea of performing a factory reset that has brought me here. I have some questions about performing a factory reset and I'd greatly appreciate it if you could give me some answers.
1. What's the best method of performing a factory reset? How is it done?
2. If I perform a factory reset, will the software on my phone be taken back to KitKat 4.4.2? (That was the version my phone shipped with)
3. I know backing up my data is gonna be the first and most important step. Is there an app or software than I can use for that? I was thinking of using Samsung Kies 3. I'd also love to be able to backup my app data, like for example my Asphalt 8 progress and restore it at a later time? Is it possible?
4. These past few days, I've noticed my battery life has been running down faster than usual. Could a factory reset help with that? I read it could help fix that. Although the battery may be weak due to the fact that I've had the phone for over a year now, and I'd consider myself a medium-heavy user; I plan on getting a replacement soon though.
5. Will a factory reset permanently fix the keyboard? (In-case it starts acting up again)
By the way, my phone is not rooted.
Thank you for your time and help. I will be expecting replies. All help, tips & tricks will be fully appreciated.

Note4 boots into download mode.

So, here is my problem. I've got an almost four years old Note4. I flashed some custom ROM's after i bought it but then I found an old X-note 4.4.4 based custom ROM and i was using that for more than 2 years. Yesterday around noon i noticed that if I try to use Viber, it takes seconds till it opens, and lags badly. (Before that the phone was working perfectly for years). I deleted it, reinstalled, but the problem stayed the same. After a few hours all the other apps started to do the same, the phone became really laggy. As time went by it got worse and worse, around 8pm it started to freeze, reboot, became almost completely useless. I thought maybe a factory reset and a new flash would help. I did a factory reset, and flashed a completely stock ROM on it. It started well, was working good for an hour or so, and then the same problems occured again. Lag, freeze, reboot.... And then nothing. Did not even restart. I can switch it on every now and then, (like in every 20 minutes), but it boots into odin mode. I thought maybe the battery, but that is less then 2 months old. Anyone any idea what happened? I mean the phone is almost 4 years old, so I'm not really pissed off, the only reason why I wanna keep using the Note4 cuz it's removable battery. I don't like phones with built-in battery, this is why i did not upgrade to Note8 for instance. Any help would be much appreciated. By the way, my device is an SM-N910F.
Well, things got even weirder later. I found my old battery which i replaced 2 months ago, still had some juice in it, i put it in, and the phone started!!! Worked perfectly, for about an hour and a bit, then the same problems occured again, lag freeze reboot, and now it boots itself into recovery if i can start it up at all... All the same story. Anyway, i threw it in the drawer and bought a new phone.
