Mag Issue - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

Just got my hands on a htc hd 2, only problem is, it was rooted with nand android and magdlr but the sd card is missing, i booted it up once and it froze on the go go go ! screen and then died, charged and booted it up again the screen is blank and only illuminates now, any idea what to do? I have a blank sd card in it now.

What have you tried to do? Have you tried holding the power button while it's turning on to get in to MAGLDR? Hold it down until it shows all the available services.

You should also turn phone off and boot into thye bootloader screen and see if you have a HSPL or what..... You can turn phone on while holding volume down button.

I guess the screen is the problem because now its just blank, doesn't even bother to illuminate and i noticed the bottom part of it getting warm whenever i try to charge it. Any ideas on how much a repair would cost?

Ud probably be able to get one off of ebay or craigslist..dont really kno a price, someone could be hurtin for a few extra Bucks and would let one go for cheaper then others wouldwould
Sent from a noobs hd2

Ok, it might not be the screen, but here's the problem. I turn the phone on, black screen no illuminating either. I plug it in to charge, the orange led comes on, if i plug it out the orange led is still on (is that supposed to happen??). I plug it into my computer it doesn't read it but the phone can still charge. Any ideas on what this problem could be, i don't wanna go changing the screen if that's not the problem at all.
This is a link to something similar when i turn on the phone

Wizard Died? (Startup issue!) Please Help!

Hello dear XDA-dev members;
I had a problem this morning with my Wizard. I have a G3 device which i had downgraded to Button ROM for unlocking etc. It was working really fine until this morning. Last night i have turned off the phone radio (wireless and bluetooth was not enabled)and the battery was charged almost at %60.
This morning i woke up, i saw that he was entered in USB recovery mode itself. (the screen with red, green, blue, with my IPL 1.0 / SPL 1.0) , i was terrified because nobody touched my phone. Then i have pushed over power button, it shut-down. I've just waited a few minutes then i've just pushed again over power button, it started with my windows mobile 5 splash screen and showing my ipl/spl. the screen is really bright at this moment but fades out, when he started to fade out, he just shut-down itself.
I've read and searched over the forum, and though that it was my battery which was dead. I've plugged it with wall charger and waited almost one hour, and the charger led was red. I've tried to turn on, he just came on and go over my Today screen! and the charger led turned to green. Almost 45 seconds later the phone turned off itself. I've tried to re-start but it's same. I'm getting windows splash screen, and the screen brightness starts to fade out and the phones shuts down.
I've tested my battery with a volt-meter, i'm getting 4.86 volts. i have also checked power pins inside the phone, i'm also getting power there (4.6 volts) when it's connected with wall-charger, so i think that it's fine.
I have tried to hard reset, pushing communication + voice command button + soft reset button, i had the black screen, he said that it was ok, but same here. I was running with Button rom as i said before. (1.05)
Please help.
if you still can get into bootloader, it should be fine
It was entered into bootloader mode itself. When i'm trying to start it, the splash screen comes on, it shows WM5 and my IPL/SPL and 20 seconds after, it shut down. I really need help because it's my only phone that i own.

Have you had your phone more than a year? It may be the battery.
Replacement batteries cost only $5 on ebay or Amazon. Just get a battery so you can be sure that isn't the problem. In any event, you will probably need a new battery so you may as well try this.

I've gone to buy a new battery, but it's the same thing. It just shuts-down irregullary at splash screen, or today screen.
Some faults in memory result in the device needing to soft reset in an attempt to reclaim memory. Perhaps you could try flashing to another rom. I dont own a g3 so I cant really advise you any further.
Mine not exactly like you but automatic bootloader or stuck at IPL screen. It was out of nowhere but thought a bad flash. When trying the hard reset, it would come as "failed".
Nearly threw phone thinking too old and dead but this came to rescue. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=276963. If not tried, give it a shot.

mt3g stuck at box-arrow-phone icon on power up

Hi,
I have a MT3G that my brother likes a lot, so he bought a second-hand MT3G on craigslist and asked me to help him make it work, since it is apparently broken.
On power-up it goes to a screen with an icon of a software box with a yellow arrow coming out of it and pointing down to a phone. Is this the "recovery screen" icon?
I put SAPPIMG.NBH on the root of a FAT formatted 2GB Kingston microSD card (the card works fine in my MT3G) and tried each of these key combos after removing and reinserting the battery:
hold voldown while click power = still the same logo and no progress bar
hold home while click power = same thing
hold back while click power = same thing
I also turned the 2GB card into a "gold card" using instructions on XDA and put on it the sappimg.zip that is supposed to fix perfectSPL. Re-did all key combos above. Same logo.
The only thing that results in something different is when I hold the trackball while powering on, and then I get a blue power light and blank screen.
Plugging the phone into the computer with USB with the power off and battery in shows the orange charging light, but the phone is never recognized as a USB device when it is powered on and connected.
Any help would be appreciated. I thoroughly searched the XDA boards and tried as much as I could. I don't think my brother can get his money back from the guy who sold it to him, and I have already yelled at him for not testing before he walked away with the phone.
Thanks!
the only thing I can think of not sure why right now this is only thing coming to me is while in the screen press home and back for a while or, hold some and power for alot longer even after the screen pops up just keep holding for at least a minute... another thing is hold home and power while inserting the battery.... also tell us what happens when you try to power the phone normally
Thanks so much for your ideas, mt3g
I tried home and back for a couple of minutes and still just stay stuck at the box-arrow-phone icon.
I then pulled the battery and held home and power for 2 minutes, and then released the power button but held the home for another 2 minutes, and then let go of home and waited another 5 minutes, but still stuck at box-arrow-phone icon.
Then I tried holding home and power while inserting the battery and it still stayed at the box-arrow-phone icon.
When I power the phone normally it still just comes up with the box-arrow-phone icon.
Any other ideas?
Thanks again.
Either a paperweight or a BRICK!!
your brother's been scammed... If you can't get into fastboot or recovery the device is considered bricked (well, not "techincally" as HTC could still fix it but you can't ). The guy apparently tried to flash an incompatible SPL (or something went wrong during the process) and then sold the brick...
the only way to fix this is to hold volume down when phone is turned off, then turn on the phone but keep holding volume down! this should boot it into fastboot mode, if it doesnt then its bricked.
Have you tried downloading the Android SDK and running adb devices while the phone is plugged in? You could possibly run a logcat as well and see what the phone is doing.
Thanks for the suggestions, Dixi789! No combination of buttons will get me to fastboot or any other screen than the one with the box-arrow-phone icon, and when I plug the phone into the computer via USB it is never recognized as a USB device, so the Android SDK tools don't see it as being connected.

[Q] Help! My Nook is dead?

Hi,
mi n2e only with 1 week and has got frozen in the middle of a book. It doesn't respond. Soft reset doesn't work. Battery was about 50%.
I have disassembled it and try a lot of things, remove battery, connect to supply without battery... but the screen is in the same page of the book. There is no way to turn off screen.
Now with the nook connected to supply the led indicator is off and my computer doesn't detect it. This morning I got the light turned red (charging perhaps???) In this situation when I pushed button to turn off, the red changed to green for 2-3 seconds and then turned red again. And my computer detected it.
But now the light indicator is off again.
This is a gift from a friend in Usa. I live in Spain, so there is no warranty and for this reason I've tried to repair myself.
Any help, please? I'm desperate with it. I can't understand it fails in only 1 week.
Thanks.
> Soft reset doesn't work.
What do you mean by "doesn't work". It happened to me that my touch screen stucked but when I pressed "power off" button for a long time (e.g. 15 s) my nook rebooted and then if was OK.
But in you case whole system is stucked (no menu after pressing "n"), right?
Right. Whole system is out. Anything works... Now when I plug to power, there is no light on (led is off).
Hi Esfinge
Did you find a solution?
Same thing happened to me, I'm in South Africa, so can't take it back to B&N.
Got it brand new, charged it, connected to wi-fi, registered, loaded a book via Caliber (on Mac), switched off wi-fi.
The next time I picked it up it had the message that the unit is switched off and that
you have to power it up by pressing the power button on the back.
Tried removing the battery, did not help at all, also holding power button for 20 sec.
If I plug it into power the light goes green and then orange after a couple of seconds, if I connect it to a computer I can access the files on the nook.

Dude, it's a e-ink screen..
When powered down it still retains its last image, it wont go blank unless told to do so.

That doesn't make sense, a powered down N2 will not mount the sdcard on your pc when connected via usb.
So if you're able to access the Nook partition while the N2 is still showing its "powered down" screen, you're in some serious trouble, as that would indicate the N2 is powered on and running, but not communicating with the e-Ink screen

This seems to be the case, worked perfectly and then suddenly not, I might be sitting with a 'Friday' model.... anyone know where I can get a new screen?

Screen is black blank, hasnt came back since it first shut off after the first or second reboot on the first try restoring it to 1.4.3. The Screen was working fine before I used it everyday then i wanted to switch roms from phirmod 7.1 to NookieJoyOS it worked but the wifey didnt like it. She wanted her original nook color back. So I went back to original stock rom and then i started having problems. At first i though i had formatted something wrong in cw3.0.2.8. Above I was stating scenarios in threads i was reading on what possibly happened.

I recently got an NST screen/digitizer for ~$40US on eBay, it took 5minutes to replace it.

HTC HD2 Is not turning on, only turns on sometimes whats wrong? need help extremely!

Ok i got an extremely bad problem
i brought a hd2 from ebay with a fault, which was the person said he dropped the phone and the screen cracked then he replaced it with new screen and digitizer, but he said after he did that the phone only starts up sometimes, anyway i won the bid and when i recieved it i put the charger in and it turned on by itself and was stuck ar htc screen i took the charger out and the phone went off, so i put the charger back in again and it didnt turn on this time, tookout battery and did reset and hard reset and still nothing? the phone doesnt have hardspl.
so i opened the phone up and look to see if anything was lose which it wasnt and i also manged to damage the volume flex cable and the bottom buttons flex!
so i left my phone overnight and in the morning i put the battery in and put it on charge and A RED LED LIGHT CAME ON!!!! which means it was charging so i thought if i press the reset button it come on, so i pressed the soft reset and nothing came on and the red light dissapeared and it doesnt come back again?
Can anybody help me whats wrong?
Since the previous owner has dropped the phone, anything could have went wrong.
First, check the battery pins on your phone, and make sure they are straight (not bent, not eve a little)
Hi I tryed that but it still don't work, also to follow up I put my htc in fridge for 5 mins and put in usb and orange light comes on so I left it for couple of hours and after it finished charging it virbrates and screen comes on but it just stays black so I took out battery and it didn't startup, so battery is fully charged and I. Put phone back in fridge and put usb back in and orange light came on again, so this time I pull out usb cable and the light is still on??? And I pull out battery and it goes off I don't know what's wrong???? Its driving me nuts!!!
Edit - ignore what I wrote above, okay I left phone in fridge and I put battery in and then I put in usb and orange led light comes on then the phone vibrates and the htc logo screen comes up but it is frozen there and I can't reset because I have no buttons because I broke the flex ribbon. I pull out battery and it turns off and it doesn't come back on so I put usb in and then battery and nothing but I can feel a tiny bit of vibration but not as strong as before. Its soo wierd the phone only powers when I leave it in fridge.
really need a solution fast
Please guys I really need a solution, don't leave me hanging. I was going to buy a new motherboard but I don't know whether its worth it because I font want to waste money.
I can't answer your question. But I know for fact that if the hd2 overheats monsterously the processor melts off it's spot or something and the phone starts to reboot at 25-30 Celsius degrees and that could explain cooling it down lets it boot. My suggestion is to sell the phone on Ebay as SLIGHTLY damaged Hahahah!
infact thats what i done i put it on ebay if anyone wants it let me, mint condition except boot failure I don't think it the processor because I can connect to usb and it comes as qualcomm data
The phone tries to turn on because I see the vibration motor turn once but nothing else happens?
facepalm.
....
Was there any need of facepalm makes you look like a retard. Don't do it please

Nook Simple Touch not responding

Hello everybody. I'm new here, I came seeking desperately for help.
This morning, my NST have fallen from the table. In the past 3 years, I have dropped it a couple of times before. But today, when I picked it up, the screen was frozen, but it was displaying a page in the left 2/3 of the screen, while the remaining 1/3 displayed a different page. The screen was frozen.
I turned the device off (with the upper back button) and the screen went white, but I couldn't turn it on again. I plugged it to charge the battery. The orange light was on, and then turned to green, but still couldn't get any response by pressing any of the 2 buttons. When I plug it to the computer, I can acces the micro sd and the Nook's memory.
I've readed similar posts in this forum and I'm afraid it's simply broken, but I wanted to ask anyway.
Any suggestions?
Thanks.

Your first description makes it sound like something in the display is broken
You say you turned it off with the back button, but what you really mean, I guess, is that the screen cleared completely? In other words did you get the little window that asks whether you want to shut down, or did the screen just blank?
If it really is shut down, plugging in the power supply should cause it to boot. If you plug in the power supply and nothing happens (no window saying it's charging?) then it may be on already or the display is simply broken and there's no telling what's going on.
When you say you can access the Nook's memory, do you mean you can see the internal storage? So the "drive" is mounting when USB is connected? If you have ADB access you could try to reboot that way.
I'm at a lost and the only other thing I can think of is to open it up, disconnect the battery for a bit, and then reconnect. But dropping repeatedly is not a good practice.
Thank you very much for answering, nmyshkin.
Now that you mentioned it, the display never asked if I wanted to turn the system off. It just went blank when I pressed the button... It shows no message when charging neither.
I can access the internal storage. I have no idea what ADB is (I'm quite illiterate in this matter) but I could search in the forum.
I wanted to open it, but I don't have the screwdriver for that weird screw the Nook has. Maybe I'll try it later, if I can find the tools, but I'm afraid it's gone... u_u
I know it's just a $70 reader, but I cannot buy it in my country and it was also a gift, so I'm very found to it.
Thank you again.
