factory reset will clear caches anyway so that was redundant. u will want a trickle charging (SBC) kernel to avoid the 10% drop
let the flaming begin (SBC)
a battery pull and reboot might help
Thanks you for the fast reply, I'm using netarchy kernel 4.3.1. No sbc. Stable mod. And also I'm using setcpu, i don't know if that interfiere with the kernel that I'm using.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
uninstall setcpu... see what happens.
i know when i put the setcpu to high.. it will reboot itself....
also try a different kernel... start with a stock kernel.. or more standard.
I had the reboot issue a while back. My solution was to not leave Wi-Fi on if I wasn't using it. My phone would reboot if I left Wi-Fi on and it was idle.
I had to replace my evo three times for the same reason, I tried everiting, roms, batteries, etc.... but the true, is a problem with the evos. so nothing to do, if get to bad, it will, take it to sprint a replace it. Good luck.
Thanks you, all. This is the first time that happens to me. So let see if does it again.

if its randomly rebooting try reformatting your sdcard.
or maybe try setting the wifi sleep policy to never. I suggest this because I also had the same problem and I had forgotten that certain kernels will cause random reboots if wifi the wifi policy is set on default.
Thank you, all for you help. So far my phone is acting normal...

For some reason my battery tells me wrong information so sometimes the phone thinks.its dying so then I turn it off and turn it back on and it is completely difffent number and I made a mistake and flashed a captive Tom and now so when I turn my phone on an at&t logo comes up I can get rid of it by Wiping Every thing but don't want to do all that just fix those problems
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
I've had that a few times myself, I think its due to a bug in whatever rom your using. I personally have no had that problem in a while because I am using a rom exclusive to a site I help out.
Either flash a new rom to see if it goes away or reflash the existing one. In these odd cases, I usually try a different to make sure it is not the phone. Also, you can go into recovery and go to advanced and then wipe battery stats there to get a fresh start
I will try wiping battery status I have tried bionic and Axura had problems in both wat about art start up thing

I am not sure if this has been resolved if it has please point me in right direction to thread. everytime I pull my battery out everything system force closes (messaging, phone, swype, android process. etc..) I read somewhere that sometimes clearing data or cache fixes this although I've had no luck, the only way I get around this is restoring to one of my back ups. is there a faster or better way around this? also I am rooted froyo 2.2/EC05 with various roms.

Are you perhaps running on the ext4 file system with journaling off?
Maybe switch back to journaling if this is the case. If not disregard and wait til a better answer comes along.

I asked the same question in a thread but sorry i cant remember which thread but i was told that doing a battery pull with phone on can cause data corruption much like how when u just like when u dont shut down ur computer properly. Hope this helps.
The only fix i was able to find was a system restore.

Pulling your battery shouldn't cause this issue, unless you pulled it before the phone was completely shut down. (You have to wait for it to go black and vibrate. This vibration happens anywhere from 2 seconds to 15 seconds after the phone goes dark, depending on which rom you are using).
It seems to be a "no journaling" issue with 95% of the people that this has happened to (including myself!!) "No journaling" is a faster set-up, but will not write needed data in the event of an unexpected/improper shut down.
No journaling/journaling is a choice we have been given by the great developers here, so it really comes down to personal preference.
As a side-note: If you have restored a backup that had jounaling "on", you don't have to worry about turning it back on now. I believe, from what I have read on here, that it reverted automatically. Also - if you restored a backup that was not ext4, then I don't think you are ext4 anymore either.
Hopefully I haven't taken up all this space telling you something you already know. In any case, I hope this helps a little!
This happened to me last night and I was pissed cause I would have lost a lot of unsaved numbers. I found the easiest fix though. Boot into clockwork > advanced > fix permissions. That simple.

Don't pull your battery until off........... these are not simple devices you can go yanking the battery out of whenever you want and its still gonna work properly.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
If journaling is on then you can.
To (re)enable journaling just make a NAND backup then restore it.

Sooo how long should we stare at a frozen screen until we do pull the batt?
I finally gave up on custom roms and am sticking with stock, just for this reason, way too many FCs then I do a batt pull and I gotta reflash the rom and hope it works
.. I guess this phone just can't handle the flash dance like my HTCs could.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA Premium App
Guess no one tried doing what I did. Cause, you know, it's SO much harder than reflashing an entire rom and losing your data...
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
I gave up on custom ROMs as well. I'm on cleaned up stock and I get great battery life with plenty of speed and no debilitating errors. If (or I should say WHEN) an app decides to go batty, it only hurts itself and not my entire system.
just happened to me smh....
Turn journaling on, and search or something

Listen too him he is absolutly correct. Turn journaling on. Also you don't have to stare at a blank phone it will vibrate when its done shutting down after the display is off
Go here for 2 scripts to enable and disable journaling

I was going to tell him 2-3 hours but you have to watch cuz the led might flash and show you it's ready. I'm only feeling semi-helpful today. I gave a great fix for this on the SRF thread if you're OCD about backing up like I can be.
Hey
I'm running DK 4.4, and my phone just appears to be randomly freezing while it's in my pocket.
I should note this has been happening with other roms as well, so I seriously doubt it's a rom issue.
I'm not overclocked (anymore).
The screen just won't turn on.
People can even call me and to them it seems like it's ringing, but it's not and nothing happens.
The only way to recover from that seems to be to take the battery out and put it back in.
I finally managed to catch it in action and have a look at the log, but I couldn't find anything useful.
Maybe someone else can
logcat:
http://pastebin.com/kS3EnPQa
Also, I should mention the freeze happened a couple of minutes before the end of this logcat, the log keeps updating even though the phone appears frozen.
adb shell doesn't seem to work, though, and neither does adb reboot
Thanks
Hi. Flash an old 2.1 stock RUU original rom, root again and check if the phone works. Sounds like a Software or Hardware issue. Otherwise you can try to wipe phone and test the DK ROM again.
Do you use cache to ext? Download and install free app ap2sd GUI from Market and move cache back to internal. Maybe your sd card should be Checked too.
Do you use the default dk Kernel without over or downclock under 3cxphone MHz?
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using Tapatalk
Fair enough, I'll try it.
I'm curious, though, are you actually seeing something in the log?
As for the cache to ext, my dalvik cache used to be on my SD card, but I already moved it back thinking it might be the issue
EDIT: as for the kernel, I use the original DK one (iirc that's the original HTC kernel?), shouldn't be over/underclocked.
I had this same issue and was about to return my Wildfire, but then the microSD died! So I got a new one and its been fine ever since so maybe try another card if you can and if the above suggestion doesn't work.
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using Tapatalk
Thanks for the suggestions!
I'll be sure to try them. Maybe my Wildfire isn't on its death bed after all
Your not the only one my GFs phone has the dame prob plz do let me know if u manage to fix it. Thx
P.s. her phone's completely stock no root no nothing.

It definitely seems like it's the SD card.
I tried using a different one and I haven't had any problems for about 48 hours.
Will update if it changes
Thanks a lot for the suggestions, guys!

Hi all,
My MS2 has been randomly restarting and was wondering if it (or Android in general) has a way to see what happened directly before the restart, or more helpfully, what actually caused it to restart?
It hasn't restarted on me while I use it, but seems to restart when it's just sitting around and hasn't been used for a while (ranges from 10 mins or a couple hours) - I know it restarts only by the vibrator going off a little as it boots back up.
The phone is running the stock ROM, and I don't recall installing any new apps recently that may be causing it (such as system apps or anything etc, but NFI really).
Any and all help much appreciated!
Edit: "vBulletin Message Sorry, search is temporarily unavailable. Please try again in 20-30 minutes." in before flames.
So I'm not going to read through pages and pages of posts to find one specific issue which may/may not have been asked etc.
mine restarts 4 out of 5 times i reboot, its really annoying
still dont know the cause, does it with both stock and argen2stone, so it seems like hardware
normally it boots properly when its cold
dont know if this has any relevance... but yeah
weird. im using stock 2.2 AsiaRetail firmware and i have never experienced such a problem - random reboots. perhaps you have some sort of very buggy software that you installed, or perhaps you tampered with something after rooting your phone (if you did)? in any case this is very odd, as it should not just reboot out of the blues. do check each and every downloaded software to see if that is the cause.
I don't have the same problem with UK 2.2.2 running on it.
But random restarts do exist when I was using Argen2Stone 1.8, so I don't think this is hardware problem?

I had reboots, but only very few. Not worth mentioning but it occured when I restarted the phone once. It seems to be faulty software.

u should have used one click when z4 didnt work. i tried z4 several times, and when it just didnt root i tried one click instead. btw it really is no hassle unrooting. just click unroot on z4 if that does solve the problem, try re-rooting it, but use one click instead. i believe ur set has the RageAgainstTheCage loophole sealed too

Yeah I suspect it might be a downloaded app (hoping so anyway) but I dont want to have to uninstall everything or try a trial'n'error uninstallation process as that will take forever.
I was hoping someone would know if there are logs that show kernel panics or last processes run prior to the reboot...

try using lookout security (free)...just to see if any apps you have downloaded are contain malwares. i also heard such reboots can be caused by external wifi scanning/searching apps.
Thanks I might try lookout and see what it says...is itself trustworthy tho?
Also I dont use wifi and have it disabled.
Can anyone else offer any further suggestions?

bump...anyone know if MS2 has kernel logs or sth to help me narrow down these random restarts?
I didn't meet with random restart problem at all. using uk 2.2. only once it restarts again and again, and that turned out to be caused by my battery.
sometimes when my tombstone is too hot (above 48℃), it will shut down automaticly to cool down itself. and my battery reports a wrong value of current temperature to system sometimes, then cool down mode will be startup and shut down my phone.

Also, download live dmesg and live logcat from market, they are bootanimations with live logs apearing on the screen. Pro version suports both at the same time.

I upgraded to synergy's Gingerbread rom and everything went well, I turned off the screen then turned it back on and the screen is stuck on dim (like 20%) and cannot be adjusted. I switched to another GB rom and its the same. I updated the kernel like someone said to 2.6.35.10-htc-kernal_and18-2-signed after updating to gingerbread but it didnt fix the screen brightness issue, Im stuck at like 20% still and cant adjust it with any settings or programs.
Any help?
Is my phone just koo koo pants or has this never happened to anyone else? Or is this one of those problems everyone knows about so they ignore new posts about it
Are you on RC1 or RC2?
RC2 has an "auto-brightness" under the quick settings menu.
You can also go to menu --> settings --> display --> brightness, and make sure that auto brightness is unchecked
Or... All apps, open up spare parts, and there is another brightness mode option there.
I dont believe I remember how to check RC1 or RC2, my hardware version is 0003?
And I tried all settings and none worked, auto brightness is unchecked.
Well RC1 was released a few weeks ago, and RC2 was released yesterday.
When you installed synergy, did you wipe cache and dalvick cache?

Try wiping system and boot as well. This may be caused from "left over" system files from your previous roms... I use VR super wipe and do the factory reset and wipe dalvik and cache every time.

Just wondering, has anyone had problems with their media volume staying at the same volume, no matter if you turn it down. I already had done a full whipe when I installed and Ill try unrooting and going to GB stock, if the screen doesnt work Ill just have to go to the sprint store and get a new phone and wait for GB to be jailbroken which I have every confidence will be sometime soon.
well I unrooted and went to 2.3.3 stock and it still dims the screen after the first shut off. I have to take it to the sprint store now to get fixed but I just had my wisdom teeth removed so I cant go anywhere for a while. yay
