Hi all,
My MS2 has been randomly restarting and was wondering if it (or Android in general) has a way to see what happened directly before the restart, or more helpfully, what actually caused it to restart?
It hasn't restarted on me while I use it, but seems to restart when it's just sitting around and hasn't been used for a while (ranges from 10 mins or a couple hours) - I know it restarts only by the vibrator going off a little as it boots back up.
The phone is running the stock ROM, and I don't recall installing any new apps recently that may be causing it (such as system apps or anything etc, but NFI really).
Any and all help much appreciated!
Edit: "vBulletin Message Sorry, search is temporarily unavailable. Please try again in 20-30 minutes." in before flames.
So I'm not going to read through pages and pages of posts to find one specific issue which may/may not have been asked etc.
mine restarts 4 out of 5 times i reboot, its really annoying
still dont know the cause, does it with both stock and argen2stone, so it seems like hardware
normally it boots properly when its cold
dont know if this has any relevance... but yeah
weird. im using stock 2.2 AsiaRetail firmware and i have never experienced such a problem - random reboots. perhaps you have some sort of very buggy software that you installed, or perhaps you tampered with something after rooting your phone (if you did)? in any case this is very odd, as it should not just reboot out of the blues. do check each and every downloaded software to see if that is the cause.
I don't have the same problem with UK 2.2.2 running on it.
But random restarts do exist when I was using Argen2Stone 1.8, so I don't think this is hardware problem?

actually, my phone was being pretty stubborn when i tried to root it. had to do a few battery pulls cos it never finished rooting, just kept spinning and spinning. Ive done factory restores with sbf's too, didnt seem to fix it?
I had reboots, but only very few. Not worth mentioning but it occured when I restarted the phone once. It seems to be faulty software.

what do u mean by stubborn when you tried rooting it? if your phone is still rooted, try unrooting it and see if the problem still exists

stubborn in that z4root wouldnt finish no matter how long i left it. took forever, so i had to reset or batterypull. had to do that about 3 times before the process actually finished

u should have used one click when z4 didnt work. i tried z4 several times, and when it just didnt root i tried one click instead. btw it really is no hassle unrooting. just click unroot on z4 if that does solve the problem, try re-rooting it, but use one click instead. i believe ur set has the RageAgainstTheCage loophole sealed too

Yeah I suspect it might be a downloaded app (hoping so anyway) but I dont want to have to uninstall everything or try a trial'n'error uninstallation process as that will take forever.
I was hoping someone would know if there are logs that show kernel panics or last processes run prior to the reboot...

try using lookout security (free)...just to see if any apps you have downloaded are contain malwares. i also heard such reboots can be caused by external wifi scanning/searching apps.
Thanks I might try lookout and see what it says...is itself trustworthy tho?
Also I dont use wifi and have it disabled.
Can anyone else offer any further suggestions?

bump...anyone know if MS2 has kernel logs or sth to help me narrow down these random restarts?
I didn't meet with random restart problem at all. using uk 2.2. only once it restarts again and again, and that turned out to be caused by my battery.
sometimes when my tombstone is too hot (above 48℃), it will shut down automaticly to cool down itself. and my battery reports a wrong value of current temperature to system sometimes, then cool down mode will be startup and shut down my phone.

Type dmesg and logcat on terminal.
Also, download live dmesg and live logcat from market, they are bootanimations with live logs apearing on the screen. Pro version suports both at the same time.

I've been having lockscreen reboot issues with the last few Fission roms, and a couple of Matt's. Has anyone else had this problem and resolved it?
I followed the installation instructions and even formatted my SD card. I'm going to try to SBF before I install the next Fission, is there anything else I can do to completely clean out my phone? Such as wiping some system files in recovery or something.
The only data I have left over from other ROMs is backups I made of a few games like Angry Birds.
Any suggestions are appreciated, I've been trying to fix this issue for awhile!
Are you doing a hard reset after flashing roms? Resetting the phone in applications>privacy, at the bottom of privacy?

Yup, after installing the ROM and rebooting I do a hard reset through the privacy menu. Would it make a difference if I sign into my google account on first reboot before doing the hard reset?

I never sign into google until after the hard reset. But I dont know if that matters. Next time you flash a rom, try wiping data and cache in recovery, after flashing, but before you reboot. And, are you overclocking or undervolting?
I'll try wiping data and cache before my first reboot. I know I used to do this but not sure if I've done it recently.
I haven't messed with overclocking or underclocking. Do you know if any widgets are known to cause problems? I run Launcher Pro, but I went a day or two with the stock launcher and still had some reboot issue.

Launcherpro wouldnt cause it. I would sbf if i were you, and just keep doing what your doing. After so many flashes there is bound to be some residual bs left behind.

Lock Screen Reboots are something that seem to be present in all these Moto Droid phones. I always always always get them on both D1 and Dx and D2, with any ROM, theme, etc. Just seems to be a common problem Motorola has, along with their insane fascination with their Motoblur UI which is also a complete mystery.

Personally I had a Droid 1 for 6 months and don't remember having any lockscreen reboots, at least not at the frequency of 2-3 a day that I'm having now. Could run the phone for a week without rebooting.
There were a couple of D2 roms that didn't have the reboot issue for me, but most do so maybe it is an issue with the phone like you say. I Don't understand their persistance with motoblur either At least take out eFuse if you're going to throw on motoblur
I've been trying lockbot free to solve my reboot issues. You can basically set it to be exactly the same the normal lockscreen, and so far it seems to be working for me.
I had this problem. Random, intermitten soft reboots during slide to unlock. Ran multiple roms, always had the problem. But I was always removing the same things after sbf. I had found one Dev to seem to find this to follow the music.apk file. So this time I left it on. On my last sbf, I left that in there. Havent had a problem since. Before that I had tried what I thought to be everything, multiple sbfs, multiple roms, completely formatted sd card, and re-sbf'd again. But I always deleted music.apk. Because it always seems to start running, using memory that I thought was unnecessary. Since I dont play music from my phone, other then streaming music. Hope that helps someone. Saved a ton of frustration for me!

Which music.apk is this? Is it the D2's original application or the google music app? Because I've never taken the music app that's been on the phone or came with any ROM and I've had a few not a big number but a few.

Not sure what the google music one is, but the file is named music.apk
Please clarify this lol. Mine was working great until I installed that damn black theme for fission rom.
I've had a droid1 and I have never had reboot issues with roms before. I think it may just be a d2/x problem
Sent from my DROID2 using XDA App
Yeah the same thing happens to me. I'm pretty sure the dev's for Fission know about it, so hopefully 2.2.1 from them fixes it.

I had this same problem until yesterday. I installed the Music.zip that came with fission. Now I haven't had a single problem. (I also installed the 10 percent framework and the Camera.zip) I can't remember who posted it but once I installed the Music.zip everything works great.
Im just curious, are you guys only experiencing these reboots with the non-blur roms, or have you experienced them with other roms also? I have only had one reboot, and that was running fission 2.2.1.

I think there is something wrong with my digitizer. I'll be using the phone and the screen will act as if its being continuesly pressed somewhere else so it won't scroll and I can't hit icons until I turn it off and on again. Not soft reset. It happens almost everything time I use it. It has happened several times while writing this. Any ideas? Something under digitizer?

OK, so you bought it privately and returning is not an option, so how about some more information. Has the phone been rooted? What ROM are you running? Have you tried a full wipe to see if that solves the problem?
I have had the phone for a couple months it just started doing this. I'm running liberated fr007. Rooted. Have not tried hard reset.

I thing I'm having the same problem.
My touchscreen get crazy completely randomly, sometimes I'm typing an sms and its almost imposible to write, cause it just get stuck even on the "P" letter or on the emoticons thing of the keyboard.
Sometimes I just can't switch between my homescreens (its like the thing refuses to work), what I do is switch off and on the screen (the slide to unlock works, but not the homescreens) and after several attempts it comes back to normal.
But it all started when I installed the latest version (6.1.1) of CyanogenMod.
Did anyone get a solution?
I don't want to roll back to a previous version or try another ROM.
Thanks!
Try to fix superuser permissions idk id probably just try to reinstall after clean swipe and restore everything with my backup pro. Also check the temp of the phone high temps around 100 mess up the touchscreen responding.
Signatures are fancy.
sorry... but im kind of a noob
How do I check the permisions?
What should I look for?
Thanks!

i would try doing a complete wipe and installing it again. if you've been using your phone with no errors previously, then the issues shouldn't be with your hardware but perhaps with a bad install of the current rom.

Does it boot at all?
Can you reach desktop?
If not, have you flashed previously your rom?

Some times once in a day, and sometimes more than a week, basically it is rebooting when I am playing games for more than 10 minutes.
As a phone it is working fine. I am still not rooted.

Firmware Version : 2.2
FYI - One more thing, I bought this mobile just 20 days back. Anyway thank you for quick reply.
Twenty days i would return under warranty for a fix ..

Exchange it, if you have not done any changes to rom, as this firmware has no such bug, probably its a hardware issue.

yes, sometimes it heats gets heat while playing.. I am going to shop now, to replace it.
This seems to be some sort of ROM bug. Just reflash to Gingerbread, and be fine.
You can use my howto for that, for example:

I found the issue with Advanced Task Killer. I am using Android Booster. Now it is working fine.
This has happened to me twice in 4 weeks on jvk. Talking on phone then it quickly boots up. Faster than a normal off then power on though.
Also.
Maybe why the screen goes to sleep during a call...
If you set screen off to say 10 mins, when on a call the screen stays active for duration of call except when held to ear, then screen off sensor kicks in and its working normal. Seems screen off setting also switches off phone screen at set time instead of staying active.

flash zach's antlion kernel or tk4-glitch kernel. the 'twoface' kernel might be the problem
Mine also rebooted, but it was on 2.1. The problem was that there was a bug in samsung's code. When I tdisabled the power saving mode under Settings > Display. The phone stopped rebooting.
I have 2.2.1 now and power saving mode is enabled without any problems.
Hey
I'm running DK 4.4, and my phone just appears to be randomly freezing while it's in my pocket.
I should note this has been happening with other roms as well, so I seriously doubt it's a rom issue.
I'm not overclocked (anymore).
The screen just won't turn on.
People can even call me and to them it seems like it's ringing, but it's not and nothing happens.
The only way to recover from that seems to be to take the battery out and put it back in.
I finally managed to catch it in action and have a look at the log, but I couldn't find anything useful.
Maybe someone else can
logcat:
http://pastebin.com/kS3EnPQa
Also, I should mention the freeze happened a couple of minutes before the end of this logcat, the log keeps updating even though the phone appears frozen.
adb shell doesn't seem to work, though, and neither does adb reboot
Thanks
Hi. Flash an old 2.1 stock RUU original rom, root again and check if the phone works. Sounds like a Software or Hardware issue. Otherwise you can try to wipe phone and test the DK ROM again.
Do you use cache to ext? Download and install free app ap2sd GUI from Market and move cache back to internal. Maybe your sd card should be Checked too.
Do you use the default dk Kernel without over or downclock under 3cxphone MHz?
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using Tapatalk
Fair enough, I'll try it.
I'm curious, though, are you actually seeing something in the log?
As for the cache to ext, my dalvik cache used to be on my SD card, but I already moved it back thinking it might be the issue
EDIT: as for the kernel, I use the original DK one (iirc that's the original HTC kernel?), shouldn't be over/underclocked.
I had this same issue and was about to return my Wildfire, but then the microSD died! So I got a new one and its been fine ever since so maybe try another card if you can and if the above suggestion doesn't work.

I recognize you.
.
The first time, it started nearly right after I installed/calibrated a Digital Compass.
The second time, it started out of the blue. Just bam! Tried to phone someone and voila, an endless loop of "com.android.phone unexpectedly ended." I DID install "Fake Call" app from HTC's "HUB" but that was 3 hours before it started going wonky.
From Mobilicity's techsupport team, this is happening because an 'important system file has been deleted.' The last thing I remember doing was attempting Gfree but that was 8 or 9 hours BEFORE it started crashing... and I hadn't rebooted in that amount of time.
So I don't know what could have caused it. I'll be exchanging it today shortly.

Ya you'll have to wait until a new root method is found for the new bootloader. At least the gingerbread rom for the Panache is decent so the wait won't be to painful.
