[Q] gmail sync keeps turning off - myTouch 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

For some reason, my sync keeps shutting off. the sync for gmail, calendar, even the "sync background data" checkmark is unchecked.
this is a plain, unrooted mytouch 4g. the only thing I do with it that is a little abnormal is that I pull the battery once per day (swapping one factory battery for another from an external charger)
but lately, the sync keeps shutting off on its own. The only real notice I get of this happening is that I realize I haven't gotten response emails for several hours.
any idea why this could be happening?

I've noticed the same thing. After i turn off the phone and turn it on everything else is checked but google mail. I have no clue what is going on. not really a massive deal i just make sure to check when i turn on the phone.
EDIT
don't know if this has anything to do with it or not

alright, thanks much for the reply.
maybe this is just some glitch I need to watch for after every reboot. I can just make it part of my boot up routine.
what's weird is that this is my second mytouch (first had the washed out screen) and that one never had this trouble. interesting that this one does.
I will look into that google authenticator app as well. thanks again.

Everyone with Battery problem post info here fix soon

Ok, although I do not have a solution it seems that their are a small percentage of people on here that have the same problem as me.
This is what I know:
The EVO has a bigger display, a faster proccessor, 4G, and alot of advanced features this means battery is not going to be the greatest.
However, I am now rooted running CM6 RC2, and although I love this ROM I have been having terrible battery. Also, I was using Fresh's and stock unrooted ROM and had bad battery also, AFTER I PUT IN ALL MY SETTINGS.
When I would hard reset my phone, it would sleep like normal, and the battery would run great, however, I think their is a setting that I use with my phone that is keeping it awake.
Now I am going to give all the settings that I use on my phone without installing any apps from the market. Because I know some apps keep your phone awake but I did a factory reset, put in my settings without installing any apps and my phone stayed awake.
***I have already tried the HTC and Sprint method of "conditioning your battery" I know their are 2 methods I have done both. I have setCPU, juice defender, spare parts, all that stuff that supposedly saves battery, but so far none have helped. Also my phone is set to auto CDMA, i tried that*****
Here is what I think. I am changing some setting in the phone that is keeping it awake and I can't seem to find what it is, I had this same problem with google sync setting and thankfully someone helped me fix it and it solved the problem however, after that I am still having the issue.
Keep in mind I HAVE NOT INSTALLED ANYTHING FROM THE MARKET YET, I have only entered my settings in apps that came with the phone because I believe that is the culprit.

Facebook-sync if off, I have not synced contacts with Facebook, and the problem I had last time was with google sync, I had google sync turned off and that kept my phone on. Now I have facebook sync turned off, COULD THAT BE THE PROBLEM?
Privacy: Back up my data-checked
automatic restore-checked
Mail settings, never update, I manually update.
News and weather is same thing, could google be trying to update even though its set not too and keep my phone awake?

If anything looks not right, or you think something as little as it may be may be causing the problem, even if it doesn't make sense please suggest it, I have tried everything, thanks.
Not to burst your bubble, but it's been pretty much proven that CM6 has unsatisfactory battery life.
Try Burnt Droid v1 + netarchy-toastmod kernel for optimum battery life.
I know,
but after reading through the thread it seems that about half of them half pretty good battery life, however I had poor battery with other roms, because something was keeping my phone awake.
I'm having a similar problem. On any ROM that's based of HTC's 2.2, my phone will run fine for about a day and then it will begin to stop sleeping. Once that happens the only way to get it to stop is to do a factory reset. What's funny is that using the exact same settings with CM6-RC2 I don't get the 100% awake issue. I've tried everything and can't figure it out.
I've tried turning off all automatic syncing, turning off network time and network location...didn't work. I deleted my Exchange account since I had heard that some people were having Exchange problems...didn't help. This last time around I didn't install anything from the market, it was just the stock apps. I did connect the phone to Sync in my truck and used it quite a bit before the problem cropped up.
I've got a sneaking suspicion that it's some kind background process that tries to run after a specified amount of time, but there's some kind of problem with the Sense-based ROMs that I've tried that won't allow it to run properly. So we need to figure out what the process is and either stop it from running in the first place, or figure out a way to take it out of the ROM so it isn't there to begin with.
I'm going to wipe everything and try installing Fresh 3.1.0.2 again. I'm going to try to remember to reboot my phone every night when I plug it in to charge and see if that helps. While it isn't ideal, it's way easier than having to do a factory reset every other day. I'll post back and let everyone know what happens.

phone always in sync

Im currently running cmylxgo topia hd desire rom and for some reason my phone is always in sync. The cirle with the arrows is always on. Its killing my battery life. I have the background data checked as well as my 2 gmails cause I need my emails to push thru immediately. IS there something i'm doing wrong. Ive compared it to my wifes phone and we have the same things checked off but my sync is always on....
i had that issue. ont he power control widget uncheck the spinning arrows. the go to your email and just adjust yoru settign for the times you want your emails to bchecked for new emails. that should solve the problem it worked for me but on diffrent rom. so try it on yours.
Having this problem too...
Any other solutions?
Edit.
Hmmmm may have been related to a Google app trying to auto update
Sent from my fingers to your face...
tried disabling autosync in settings?

Anyone else having sync issues?

My phone will just stop syncing with anything for random periods of time. And then all of a sudden I'll receive a bunch of notifications all at once that happened over a couple hours, or more. Even with fast and stable WiFi.
A quick reboot fixes the issue, until it happens randomly again.
Ideas?

I was having sync issues with my Gmail, one or more of the sync settings would show a red !. As simple as it may sound, I simply cleared cache and went back to my gmail account sync settings and unchecked and checked everything again and haven't had any issues since. What specific apps is not syncing with?

All of them. It acts as if the internet connection does not exist for a certain period of time and then all of a sudden I will get all of the notifications at once.

DT2 - Drastic Battery Drain! Google services?

I am coming from a Droid Turbo - best phone I ever had -and never had any issues with it. Perfect right from the start.
I now have a DT2 and I get this immense battery drain at random times. The phone runs super hot and the drain is equivalent to 1% per minute. REAL BAD!
I even had the phone replaced and the problem persisted, so I know it's not a hardware issue.
The drain goes away in safe mode as well. So it must be software!
I've dwindled everything down with no positive results.
So I started looking at GSAM to get better stats on the battery.
It's showing Google Services eating up all of my battery with gmail trailing close behind.
So I look at my accounts and they seem to be constantly syncing. As soon as one stops, the other starts and they keep cycling like that.
All of my accounts are set to Push and I have very few items in my account checked off to sync.
Just the basics like people details, mail, calendar, contacts, google keep and g+. Everything else is turned off.
FYI, I also have an exchange account on there set to push and am on the latest Marshmallow update.
I've attached 3 screenshots to help visualize what's going on.
The most notable one is the standard batter app. The big dip is when the phone started getting hot and draining.
Does anyone know whats happening or how to fix it? I never had this problem with my original Droid Turbo, even with the same accounts.
wow, nothing so far?

Maybe it's syncing too often ? Try to limit permissions for Google apps , or turn off data sync for a while and check if that fix it
Finally someone with the same problem as me. I've noticed the exact same behavior in Gmail (constant rotating sync which makes the phone hot and kills battery). However, Gmail doesn't show up in my battery stats as a battery drain, which is strange - but I do see Google Services. Unfortunately I have no permanent solution, but clearing the cache AND data for the gmail app solved the problem for about a week. Now it's back again. I have 7 google accounts in my phone, but sync is turned on for only 4.
Looking at other forums, many say that google play services is the cause, but I haven't been able to find any solid answers other than "restart", "clear cache/data", or the dreaded "factory reset". I hate having to factory reset to solve problems. Hopefully someone else who has had the same issue, or maybe someone who knows what's going on can help us troubleshoot.

I've contacted Motorola and they just want to give me a new phone. I'm on my 3rd from Verizon.
And yes, it is Google Services causing the issue as that operates a load of apps. However, we need greater details. If we got root on the phone, GSAM might be able to get more detailed information on the drain or the real app causing it.
Unfortunately, it looks like it's a Marshmallow bug.
Here are 2 work arounds that do not include clearing cache or factory resetting.
If you notice it getting hot,
1: toggle airplane mode until it cools
2: Download an autosync toggle widget to turn on/off sync
I do #2.

Problem with push notifications when phone is sleeping / idle

Hello!
I'm running a stock Verizon HTC 10 with the latest OTA updates. This phone seems to have a problem with push notifications after it has been "sleeping" or idle for awhile. I don't know exactly what that time period is, but it seems to be about 30 minutes. Once the screen goes black and the phone has been idle in this state for this time period, the phone stops getting (or checking for-however that works) push notifications. There is no blinking LED or sound notification that mail has come for gmail or Outlook. The phone will still answer calls and notify upon receipt of text messages. Usually within a few seconds of turning the screen on from the idle state, the gmail and Outlook notifications come. When the phone screen is on, or within a few minutes of turning the screen off, the push notifications will still come, but then stop.
I googled about this, and there seems to be quite a bit of discussion about it. I have tried the suggested remedies, but they don't work (unsync/sync gmail, clear data/cache for the apps, turn battery optimization off, delete/re-add accounts, along with some others). For work, I have a Samsung Galaxy S7, and it doesn't have this problem. Furthermore, my wife also has an HTC 10, and her phone doesn't seem to have the problem either (although I have not tested it thoroughly).
I've been through various settings, checked the do not disturb settings, but I can't seem to figure this out. I am probably missing some setting. It seems that the phone is going into some deep sleep mode after a period of time and disabling these apps, but keeping others, like the phone and SMS functions, alive.
Any suggestions?
Thanks!

Are you using power saver mode? What about the boost+ app?
Also a lot of people started having similar issues after the first update to Nougat for U.S Unlocked. Later updates fixed the issue, but it sometimes still happening with Gmail for me.

I am not using power saver mode, and the Verizon version doesn't have the boost+ app installed.
