Well after all the crying and whining about why/when sprint will release a new EVO, I just wanted to bring up something that I personally want to throw out there. Now im not saying its true or false. You can make up your own minds, however I will point out that this is the direct source where I first heard about a phone called the supersonic. So take it with a grain of salt but it is definately a possibility.
http://www.ozcarguide.com/technology/cellphone-pda/3439-htc-sabor-evo-4g-droid-x
Lil info about the chipset.
http://techie-buzz.com/mobile-news/qualcomm-to-release-dual-core-snapdragon-chip-in-q4.html
Now you tell me? If that phone is coming to sprint with that chipset, are you really gonna care about sprint coming out with that stupid echo? I know I won't. But its rumored to be coming out Q3, which at the look of things is definately a possibility. Atrix who? But we shall see.........
I hope Sprint comes out with a Tegra2 phone.
PS. My name is HondaCop and I approve this message.
You could probably get better tech news from my cat than Ozcarguide. And that's way old. Just kick back and relax till the next two trade shows are done and you should have a good idea of what's on the map.
Please........PLEASE for the love of god, NEVER cite ozcarguide.com as a source. They have been proven time and time again to fabricate lies and formulate their own, almost completely unfounded rumors and 'news'.

Yea that was my thought at first when all these other phones came out, but after looking around I did see HTC must have some kind of agreement with qualcomm so I doubt tergra is an option. But it seems that chipset listed above outperforms that tegra2 so I don't have that thought anymore. Also rumored that they will be combining it with the Adreno 220 GPU, so as far as a techies wet dream, this would definately be it.

While all that may be true, I did say that for what its worth, they are the first site that I personally heard about the supersonic, so for me they are 1 for 1.

I love nVidia gaming on the PC and I believe their line of Tegra chips are here to stay and make an impact. I LOVE my EVO, don't get me wrong, but I truly believe that whenever I decide to upgrade my phone, it will have a Tegra in it.

Yea thats def true, they aint goin nowhere no time soon. The tegra3 is already in the works so someone over there is on top of their game. It would be interesting though if HTC decides to use someone else but im not sure about that.

1) Engadget was the first site to publically announce the Supersonic. 2) Ozcarguide info in its entirety, stemmed from phandroid forums, and jackson. I won't go there. 3) Read carefully. EVO 2 and HTC Sabor are NOT THE SAME DEVICE, down to the codenames. You see those so called specs? Ignore them. 4) Read 3 again.

I will take my own advice, after you show me where in my comments mentioned you stating that ozcarguide was the first site to mentioned the HTC Supersonic? Take your time. My 1.) went hand in hand with my 2.) point. I've checked out the content of that blog twice, and most of everything they stated as breaking news, came from the android fan forums, word for word. If a member said ok, the EVO 2 will be the first quad core tegra 3 processor with qHD display, 2GB of Ram, with 32GB internal, that member is now their "source". They may have been your first source for the phone, but I would not say they are 1 for 1 because of it. Take our word for it, and pretend that site doesn't exist.
at this point..it is all rumors.. and I understand that.
it is just interesting to see and read about what MIGHT be coming to replace MY evo.
so.. add in any rumors of upcoming devices for sprint .. I want to heat it.

well you dont have to say they are 1 for 1, but I will. Thanks for trying to be Mr. Noitall but anything you say has about as much credibility as you are giving that website which is zero. and that might lead to the EVO2...per the article i linked.

I talked today with sprint supervisor and confirm the Froyo 2.2 will be available for July for sure but dont have a specific day. Also they working for a another patch to fix the last update 1.47.651.1
Good News
PS : I wil continue eating donut and coffe for the waiting
Cool!
But doubtful, those Sprint customer service reps really just tell you what you want to hear, it is almost never factual.
I got confirmation from supervisor not from a representative. I think supervisor got more accurate info than representative that just talk rumors
Most of the time most people that work at Sprint (Including supervisors) have no idea what they are talking about. Anyways, its more up to HTC then Sprint as to when it will be available since they are the ones that have to do most of the work.
Man, LBJ / Bosh coming to the Bulls sometime in July ... 2.2 as well?
hah I love speculating.
Yea they really have no idea. Some said August, July, September, October. They just say whatever they feel like. I used to work for Spring and generally we know more then they do.
is it best to actually talk to the HTC representative over Sprint???
I think the concensus is that 2.2 should drop sometime this summer, which offically ends 9/21/2010. However, from a business prospective, I think it would be prudent to release 2.2 to as many handsets as possible as close to the same date as possible. Reason?....sales of any handset running 2.1 for any length of time after the majority get 2.2 will die quickly, resulting in a lot of unsold inventory.
I won't believe it until it is released and running on my phone. Funny thing is, we know as much, if not more then they do
Or we might get Gingerbread on our Evo's come October.
http://gizmodo.com/5576478/rumor-android-30-gingerbread-out-october-for-higher+specced-phones
oh man can we please not play this game? over in the hero forums we played this game with 2.1 and god it doesnt get anywhere and all the waiting is usually for nothing as we end up with a leaked ruu that gets hacked and people are sad that its not everything they want it to be.

I agree. The salesman at the Best Buy in New Orleans (metairie if your from here) tried to tell me that wimax was ready here that they just had to flip the switch. Although every ounce of me wants to believe that, I know he's full of **** so I just nodded my head. I'm thinking to myself this idiot doesn't need to lie to me to sell this phone.

Gee, does this mean that, if the EVO does not get 3.0, it will be considered a cheap, low-end handset by October? :-(

The EVO meets the hardware requirements for 3.0. Do not worry, young one.
"Like Windows Phone 7, Murtazin claims that Google will be laying down the law with some hardcore hardware specs to run 3.0, demanding a minimum of a 3.5-inch display, a 1GHz processor, and 512MB of RAM"

The requirements say 3.5", 512MB RAM and 1GHZ...The Evo has all of these. There is no reason for it not to get Gingerbread (3.0).
ive got a few facts:
1) there are no dates
2) it is coming "soon" (per sprints press release)
3) it will not be released until everything is worked out. thats what pushed back the 2.1 updates, htc/samsung kept sending buggy builds (some of which leaked) and the general population wont deal with the flaws like we will b/c we want the latest and greatest. therefore, it wont be released until its completely ready

We better get Gingerbread!
Does it seem like they might just jump straight to 3.0 for high-end devices, and keep 2.2 for low-end devices as the article mentions?
This would be sweet, as it would save time for them trying to push out 2.2 and then have to wait again for 3.0.
Apple may have had its big day or two to take in the spotlight and make the competition look bad with its fancy new iPhone 4 and iOS 4.0, but Motorola isn’t going to sit there and just take it. Sanjay Jha & Friends are bringing everything they have to the smartphone party and calling all bets by publicly stating the company’s intent to launch an Android device with a 2 GHz processor by the end of this year.
That’s right, Motorola is planning a new device that is twice as fast as the iPhone 4 and faster than most capable netbooks (running 1.6 GHz or slower processors, that is). It’s clear to see what HelloMoto’s vision is for the upcoming years in the mobile industry, and the company intends to be on the front lines of this onslaught of superphones. This statement came out of Jha’s mouth yesterday at the Executives Club in Chicago and discussed his vision of the future having a focus on highly-capable smartphones that take the place of, and be mostly responsible for the demise of, mobile computing devices such as notebooks and netbooks (would this include the iPad though?). Which naturally led him into sharing this golden nugget of information.
But here’s another kicker. Another anonymous Motorola executive told Conceivably Tech that this new powerful device will essentially include everything that is “technologically possible” in any smartphone today. It will include a gyroscope and a powerful new Nvidia Tegra-based graphics processor complete with full Flash 10.1 hardware acceleration. Oh yeah, this exec also talked about 720p HD video output, HD screen resolution, and camera with more than 5 MP. This has me drooling already.
So what does this mean for you, consumer who is on the fence about iPhone 4? Could this be enough to sway you in either direction?
If Motorola truly comes out with this superphone, it quite possibly could show up as a new Droid (or similar branding) for the holidays. It would make sense, though it’s too early to predict whether or not it will be exclusively on Verizon. No matter what, news like this is what makes me so excited for the future. We have a lot of great things coming, and we’re just barely scratching the surface of what’s actually possible in the future.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say: Unless it has a mini-nuclear battery plant it in, it's going to last about 2 hours 39 minuets and 3.5 seconds.
There comes a point when you don't need anymore power in a phone, because as it is, we're nearing the point of them being able to run Windows 7 Starter!
Actually, lets just carry iPads around and talk on them.

Ummm....what? Did you read it? Future releases don't have to have anything out in the wild yet, planning stages are planning stages.
After reading the leaked FroYo response and hearing about all the C&D letters Moto legal dept has been spewing out. I'm not sure I would buy any Motorola device unless they lightened up a bit.
I guess I am too much of a newbie to post links so see this engadget article for more on my point...

I'm with you dude. if Motorola is going to keep building kill-chips into their handsets, i don't want it.
Considering we're 4 months away from the end of the year and 3 months from the start of the Christmas shopping season, I would think that anything like this would have to be about to start production. I've only heard rumors of dual core and 2 GHz processors, nothing to my knowledge has become available yet. I've heard a lot of news about random tablets and stuff using the Tegra but this is the first I've heard about a Motorola phone. I don't doubt they'll make one but my suspicion is that it won't be available till around Q2 of 2011. Anything like this should be well beyond the planning stage by now if it were going to be released by the end of this year.
aush30 ,
I do have to agree with you that i dont think we will see the phone this year but i am planning on a 2ghz phone being released early in '11
As far as motorola lighting up im not soo concerned with this fact, For the sole reason that if they launch this phone ATT, SPRINT, TMobile will all have to release 2GHZ phones or push theyre research departments. Its an ARMS race with phones..

The reason I say Q2 at the earliest is because of the electronics conventions at the beginning of the year. They'll probably show something off in January-February but it won't become available until at least a couple months later. I could be completely wrong but that seems to be the trend.
We will see when in 2011
yeah, unless there is a major breakthrough in batteries I just don't see this being a good thing
Me thinks it's a tab, not a phone.

We will probably see something at ctia, so it can look like the big draw of the show.
Probably won't be an Evo 2... but rather some other crappy name HTC puts on its phone. I wish they named their phones better. It would be better for them in a marketing point of view, cause all of their phones just seem so random (they create the pool of Android phones with random names and bad GPUs, lol).
Anyway, I love my Evo, just wish it was better in some areas (screen, camera, GPU)... and that's all I'm looking for in an upgrade.
CTIA is usually where Sprint shines.

If anyone read any of the stats on the evo shift, they would clearly see it's better in every aspect (as long as you dont mind no Front facing cam, and 5mb rear cam). The 800mhz is wayyyyyyyy better than the 1ghz the evo has, has more updated software all the way around. So they made the screen smaller probably to accomodate for the added thickness of having a physical keyboard. You guys need to realize it's not all about the specs all the time.. HTC knew exactly what they were doing when they put out that phone.
There wont be a evo 2....there is supposed to be the htc sabor coming out that is going to be the upgrade of the evo....google it
^As far as I know the HTC Sabor isn't real. At least no one has said anything substantial about it, and certainly nothing has been confirmed (unless you read Ozcarguide........)
Anyway I'm expecting to hear something at ctia. Not expecting an "Evo 2" per se, but at least a top-notch smartphone for sprint to lead with in 2011

No, it still is.
Keep in mind we're talking about Sprint specifically and not all carriers.
The iPhone rumors are just that.
And yes, it's just logic that [due to no CDMA exclusivity] the iPhone will come to Sprint at some point [and all carriers]
But the fact is that Sprint is going to have the next generation of phones come out in summer.
They always do.
It's more important now..more than ever before.
And it would just be the silliest...most retarded business decision in the history of business decisions to NOT follow up the highest selling phone in carrier history with a phone that is updated.
Maybe it won't be HTC, but you bet it will be dual-core and the same basic size etc of the Evo.

No, the Evo shift is actually slightly better than the Epic.
Although you're correct that the Evo Shift much improved over the Evo.
The Evo Shift IS better than the Evo, spec wise.
It has the updated core [top of the line til the tegra 2 series at CES]
It has a GPU 4x more powerful than the Evo's.
The core in the Evo Shift is 45 nm as opposed to 65nm [thus much better battery life with more power]
And, as I have said in the past, clock speed is irrelevant.
...much like the Pentium 4 3.06 ghz core is NOT faster than the i7 core that run at 2.53 GHz....

sprint is slow at updates and new hardware. im still banking on a new webos device being announced feb 9 and possibly an iphone by this summer. we shall see what else they have in addition to a new wp7 device.

Their updates generally come in the Summer... [Pre June 09, Evo June 10 etc]
This is "delayed" versus say Verizon who gets them shortly after CES.
But it's not the big deal that people try to play it off as.
I read this article about cpu's and gpu's and It really made me feel good about my purchase of the vibrant.
It also gives you a lot of info about the performance of your phone vs others.

we should be happy we have such a powerful phone.
powerful phone that lags ? thats like my 350z with only 100hp ! no thanks but since i bough the phone what can i do ( i keep on brickin it and unbrickin it just for fun )
***edited***
Wow I think you might have only read what you wanted to. The phone doesnt lag because of the cpu or gpu.
And to be honest with you I just spent 2 days running on rfs and It ran fine.
I dont know how anyone can complain about the power of the iphone4. Thats what we have in a android form.
lol i did read only what i want to
Well thanks for bumping this thread.
I am sure there are others who really dont know the quality of the hardware.

Don't encourage this guy hazard....
could you just leave me alone ? thank you .
I Understand But I thought this was a very useful post. It gives a great understand of the power and performance we have over current generation phones.
I think currently the only phones that best us are the adreno 205 gpu's.

This information was already readily available. People don't care about the facts though. They see lag and lower quadrant scores, and think "oh man the vibrant must have worse hardware", when stuff like RFS and JIT are the true reasons for the false perception.
Trust me, you won't get many responses to this thread. Why?
1. You're being reasonable.
2. You're posting a link to a reasonable argument backed by facts.
Facts and reason are like kryptonite around these parts.

That is prime signature quote material there. It's funny (and sad) that you pretty much hit it on the head.
WHAT!!?? The adreno 205 is NOT better than our power sgx 540. Just test out nenamark or glbenchmark.
(Though it is an improvement over the adreno 200.)

Omg I love you. A friend of mine always tells me the same thing.
As far as adreno 205 i was just going based on the info provided. I love my vibrant.
Thanks for the read. Very interesting indeed.
No worries!! I just want us to be proud of our purchase ya know. I think because of samsung slacking like they have the phone has been written off.

Yes! thanks to stupid idioms like facts and reasoning, we will never be able to rise above our potential as a society, humanity! But at least I will sit here in the muck with everyone else and keep on flashing my Vibrant
That is... until I fall for peer pressure and purchase that new shiny "Galaxy Plus, Vibrant Plus, Something Plus" or whatever they are calling it now... Naahhh!
@ reuthermonkey: I hope you don't mind if I use the last sentence of your quote as my signature?

Thats why on dungeon defenders they listed phones with that gpu as worse than ours.

Lol in my words I'll sum up the article from sammys pov...oh shyttt htc is pumping out 1.2 quick let's upgrade it so it won't fail...to me epic fail, stop copying if you want to do something different at least try to beat them, don't match em

Damn straight playa
It's likely that the 1.2 ghz chip has some benefits the 1ghz version didn't and that's why they're upgrading it.
Doesn't really matter to me...it's still a Samsung. I'll take HTC over Sammy any day of the week. I'd rather not have to wait until the next version of Android is released to be upgraded to the next newest version, which is what Samsung always seems to do.

Oh no doubt I was only speculating on the fact that they used 1.2, they could have done 1.1 for battery life or even 1.3 to "beat" the competition I just found it funny how they did this, it kind of utters what they did like a month ago or maybe weeks with the galaxy tab, once they saw the iPad 2 s pricing they delayed the release and then came out with cheaper pricing, IMO samsungs trying to change their somewhat poor reputation which I respect but at the same time do something that the competition hasn't already, you guys see what I'm saying
I'm with you HTC over Samsung any day!!!

There's evidence that they are going to be changing those ways, plus, with the fragmentation clause I don't think the issue is going to remain rampant.
Let's also remember, guys, that with Samsung we haven't seen encrypting bootloaders and such.
HTC, it's just starting.
Thanks for the feedback with posts and votes guys

No really, Google is implementing a fragmentation clause which will encourage manufacturers to update their phones if they want the source code for the latest Android OS. Google is trying to "fix" this problem and Samsung will either follow suit or go back to their own proprietary OS which would probably put them out of the phone business.

hhhmmm.... is this published by google.. or some more speculation and rumors? it would be nice.
but.. from what you wrote.. I see 2 big holes in this "clause".
1. this is an open source... anyone should be allow to access the info!
2. let me walk this through the end of a phone life cycle..
galaxy s phones will reach end-of-life in about a 1 yr....
but if sammy want the android 3.2 (or what ever dessert is out at the time);
sammy can not have it for their new phones... unless they keep upgrading the galaxy s lines...
what about 5 yrs from now? still they got to keep upgrading it??
these 2 things.. make me think doubt that "clause"
someone really had to be the dbag...smh, samsung lmao, whateverrrr

Maybe you should pay some, or hell ANY, attention to android news before you make a post doubting something that we all know about.
ill post the link later as I'm currently mobile
HTC Evo 3d.
I played with a Vibrant when I was with T-Mobile and an Epic when I first started Sprint (I actually still have Odin and the software package to run to return to 2.1 unrooted in case my idiot friend bricks his phone again ). I just like HTC's hardware and software better. The phone feels faster, looks faster, feels more durable, looks more durable, performs better, looks prettier and seems more stable than touchwiz sammy phones. Even with their Nexus S, they still manage to screw a lot of things up. No expandable memory = a 16GB Android iPhone. Make entirely out of cheap plastic. Fail.
HTC > Samsung

No its not what I said.
I said there is going to be a non fragmentation clause.
I'm sure there will be rules to it because at some point old phones really can't handle the new software improvements ...however....there iis NO EXCUSE BUT LAZINESS for practically all phones not running android 2.3.3.
Furthermore it does NOT violate the definition of open source.
Just as the GPL does not violate the idea of open source.
Its merely a condition...you use the software on your devices...you keep the software updated to protect your users.
Its just another stipulation.
how would that stipulation or clause be worded or enforced on an open source product?
i agree it would be great...
but i dont think it will work for this enviroment
