Ive been using THIS to try to boost 3g speeds, but speedtest is showing that i'm actually getting a slower speed and more ping.
Before:
Down - .90mbps
Up - .7 mbps
After:
Down - .33mbps
Up - .13mbps
Airplane mode on/....... airplane mode off.....
fast again.
just do it.
.
with the stock settings or with the default settings?
My speed boost was minimal. In fact, sometimes, my wife's Evo is faster than mine. However, I discovered that Youtube and Slacker Radio will NOT work without the speed hack.
i cleared all 4 boxes, rebooted, airplaned, all that stuff and i still get piss poor results.
speedtest, imo is flaky as hell as an app. earlier it thought i was in germany, now it thinks im in texas and lists texas cities. ive tried numerous servers and i can never break past 700kbps up/down.
i live near a major sprint tower and i parked next to it, full bars, and THEN i was able to get 1mbps down/900kbps up.
the fcc app is workable, but it force closes too much.
still not satisfied with my speed now compared to when i first got the phone.
i got the latest pri/prl/radio, everythings updated.
on average i still get about 200-500kbps down. :/

This is the trick I use...
Yeah, I'm not showing any better results when changing the settings, but if I go to airplane mode and back Im pushing 1.2 megs. Thanks for your post!

Anyone notice slower dl and ul times lately. This is off of fresh reboot and with full bars on 3g. Did a speed test and dl speed is 144 and upload was 42. Does that seem normal?
Im getting about 780 down and 680 up with 3 bars of 3g

Could there be any apps that i am running that are slowing this down?
I'm in san antonio, texas and I've seen the same thing as the OP. For the first week maybe after I got the phone it was fine ("Full five bars" of 3G --> 1-3Mb down/1Mb up), now it's nightmarishly crappy on 3G, at least where I usually use it. Often around 100kb/down and <50kb up. Sadly, the wimax coverage has also significantly degraded where I usually use it. Used to have fair coverage here and usually 6Mb via a usb dongle, but now you barely get 1Mb down. So, I have to hope it will keep 1 bar of wimax and use that at craptastic ~1mb... but then it falls out of range often and breaks things it's trying to do by switching modems.
On an unrelated issue(the above referred speedtests run from the phone itself and in the case of wimax confirmed with a separate wimax modem matching the phone's performance), I've noticed when using tether for root users (the USB one), that sometimes it seems it will load just a small portion of each webpage, especially when I'm using the 3G connection. Is sprint now packet-sniffing and limiting webpage downloads based on either the browserid or on the size of the file exceeding a certain size? Sometimes after I reboot the phone completely it will work again for a while, but not always.
I also cleated the cookies, cache, and history and have the same problem
Enable EVRC-b.
You will bump it up from 800k to 10200k
They must have intentionally disabled it to lower bandwidth, due to the enormouse data consumtion of this phone.

1) Call Sprint, ask for your MSL. If they refuse, just keep calling and asking, saying you're trying to improve your call quality.
2) Do a Nandroid Backup and a Titanium Backup.
3) Open up your phone's dialer, and punch in ##DATA# (##3282#)
4) Select Edit mode, type in your MSL as the password.
5) Go to Advanced, then for Home Orig change it to EVRC-B or Voice 13K, repeat for Roaming Orig.
6) Just above Home/Roaming Orig, select EVRC-B, and change it to Enable.
7) A little above that is a long string with the abbreviation ACCOLC in it. Change this to 2 (gives you higher priority on the network than normal )
8) Once done, press Menu, then Commit Changes.
9) Let the phone reboot.
10) Reboot into recovery, and do a Nandroid Restore.
The reason for the Nandroid Backup/Restore, is explained here. Basically, there's a software glitch with the program which is launched by ##DATA# and causes apps such as Pandora and pretty much ANY audio streaming app to stop working. By doing a Nandroid Restore, you go back to before the settings editor screwed everything up, but still keep the changes to your baseband.
Seems like Sprint is falling into the same trap as at&t and not upgrading their network. Hopefully speed improves. I've been getting 600 or so down which is pretty pathetic. We will see if it takes sprint as long push out the necessary upgrades.
EVRC-B shouldn't have any effect on your data speed at all. It is the Vocoder for VOICE PHONE CALLS.
ACCOLC changes will have no effect at all. Values of 0-9 have the same priority on the network, they're all equal. Values of 10+ are reserved for high priority government, police/fire/ems, etc type phones and are not accessible to you in this menu. Changing it will do nothing.
I've seen error 67 a few times also withing the past 2 weeks. I wonder if it has anything to do with the new PRL update?
I was getting error 67 for the last two days. Today they stopped but am getting pathetic download speeds. between 10 and 44Kbps.
When you format the phone in recovery, you can clear out /data, /cache/, and /system. But what about the other directories at the root of the phone? If any file in there was to go bad, would a stock .tar flashed with ODIN fix it?
Odin goes all the way, even to home base.
Odin restores you back to stock or to a leak that's not been modified in any way shape or form. So, yes it can fix many problems, but you will have to re-root and re-flash Clockwork.
Then this is really weird, I'm not sure if it's hardware related or not. I've always had pretty decent 3G and 4G coverage and great speeds on both. For the past month, download rates have been abysmal at best. Most of the time I get 150kbps down and around 600kbps up on 3G and on 4G I get 100kbps both ways. Wifi works fine. If I turn 4G on and off a few times I go back to 3+ Mbps. 3G is just random and gets fixed if I go into airplane mode a few times.
I've flashed stock tars, modems, and even custom ROMs and all have the same problem. Lately 3G has been more reliably settling around 200 to 300kbps on both ways but it's still a lot less than normal.

Try update profile/prl?
i got the atrix last week. and i was thinking of returning it cause i was having signal issues, wifi issues, adn it was jsut running crappy compared to my inspire...i read ALLOT this weekend on various sites and i must say after doing all the the stuff mentioned below this is new phone. i am so happy i spent some time on it and worked at it. This phone is the best i have owned and i have owened almost all android GSM phones along with balckberrys and iphones. I am running the Motorolla stock launcher and it is nice and fast..
ANyone having issues Please try this before returning
1. SBF to 1.2.6 THIS made the WORLD of diffrence. dont ask me how, but it did. Here is a link to the guide and files. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=991072
2. Root and install Titanium Pro(you must have PRO to freeze)
3. Freeze all Apps from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=972459 link. pay attention to the ones you freeze depending on what you will use.
4. My 3g/EDGE issues with the handoffs was solved by changing the UMTS settings to "2g only" and NOT selecting "automatic" for operator. More on that here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1011515 ...... i dont loose my signal at all now when it hands off.
**now i know some wont want to do this but i get crappy 3g where i am so i dont care not to have 3g**
5. for my WIFI issue (Wifi having trouble connecting after phone is woken up) i went in to WIFI Settings, then click the bottom left button, then advanced and disabled WIFI sleep. That did it for me.
This phone is still running blur - all the apps, widgets i froze and runs perfect. i am super happy. VERY fast and INCREDIBLE battery Life...Please try all of this before posting its junk and you returned it. I am jsut saying that this made the world of diffrecne for me and i hope it does for all of you as well..
Good luck!!
**UPDATE** Went home to test the 3g theory, and i always get H+ when i put my phone in the kitchen window. one bar. today, EDGE all the time i was home with full signal. so the 2g Toggle DOES work i guess.....
Hello all,
New to the G2 and pretty much loving it so far. There are a couple small issues that bother me (mostly the camera, which I use a lot), but something that I absolutely NEED to get fixed before I lose my ability to return the phone is the fact that it won't stay in 4G. I am coming from an HTC rezound and pretty much had 4G where ever I went, but the G2 is always in 3G. If I go to airplane mode and back it switches back to 4G but within a few minutes it is back in 3G.
Does anyone know how to fix this? Is it a bad device?
Thank
Jeff
Anybody...
three things
1battery saving settings or apps that resort to lower battery use networks.
2 or fast dormancy
3 3g network is in range\better range then 4g

Thanks for the input.
1. I can not find any battery saving settings that would cause this. Can you be more specific?
2. What is "fast dormancy"
3. My rezound had solid 4G in all the places I go. Plus, if I go into airplane mode it works for a little while and then switches back.
Thanks again

1 its in settings, tab general then battery, scroll down to the battery saving togle, try with it switched off. Also some apps can switch off to lower power network mode. That could also be it.
2 phone default has fast dormancy enabled, basically when no network data is being utilized, theoretically it switches to 3g etc. It can be disabled via a special menu. search here for codes to enter from the phone dialer.
3 the switching of and on supports that 1 or 2 could be in roll here.

Yes, I had the SIM card replaced and it is now working perfectly.

Has any one noticed the latency of the WiFi radio after the update,
i sent back my first 6P because i figured it was a bad radio.
Negative it was the update
Test for it by doing this:
Launch play store with with the Cell Radio turned off, and watch the load time on the icons for everything, under NORMAL operation they should be bullet fast and when you scroll to unloaded apps it should "almost instantly propagate"
IF it takes more than 2 seconds obviously you are having the problem as well.
Try this in reverse with the Cell on and WIFI off. On cell it will be bullet fast
I dont know why no one has found this bug yet
I think they M build fixes something with wifi but don't hold me to that 100% I remember reading it somewhere if I remember correctly.

NOPE still sluggish.
bet you 5 bucks you extract the radios from 89d and it works like a mutha fuhhuhhh

I don't notice any latency with the Play Store, it loads in a couple of seconds, and I have a pretty slow internet connection. I experience some pretty bad issues with Chrome though, it won't load pages at all sometimes, I mainly experience this on XDA (in saying that though my Chrome usage is 99% XDA).
Still Latent as all hell, i counted a good 20 seconds before it started to download the speedtest.net app. this is really starting to piss me off
Mine doesn't seem to have any latency but my WiFi DL speeds sit around 170-200mbs with my AC5300 router. I don't have any issues on slower networks either running the M build.
im going to flash the first factory image and see if that does it
ill report back
I had this issue and it was super frustrating. The Play Store wouldn't even load unless I switched it to LTE.
Turns out 6.0.1 fixes it!
