Htc peep - user pics in direct messages - Desire HD General

I am trying to stick with the HTC Sense and HTC Peep.
Trying to understand what should be on and what should be off!
Now I have a 1 twitter account and 1 facebook account.
HTC Facebook for Sense doesn't give you any notifications
and HTC Peep is not showing USER Pics in the DIrect Messages < is this normal?
How have you set it up to sync and work??

I'm having issues with Peep too. Direct message were showing face pictures, but now only text :-( I'd add an image but can't yet due to new user limit.

HTC Mail vs. Gmail App

Ok... so I've recently migrated to Android after several years of WinMo Standard - Windows CE - 5.0 - 6.0 - 6.1 - 6.5.
So far I like Android and I love this phone... never had anything has fast or with such a great screen.
With that being said I'm having several issues that I wanted to run by the people here and see what ya'll thought.
Quick setup background - I have two email accounts I like to use - Gmail and Yahoo. I have all of my conacts in gmail organized the way I like it. Also, I recently gave up on using MS Outlook to manage my contacts and calendar and now use Gmail and Google Calendar to manage those two exclusively.
So here goes my impression/questions/issues - hoping someone can shed some light on it.
In the past with WinMo I could set up POutlook to sync with gmail/g-calendar/google contacts by configuring m.google.com as my activesync/exchange server. Everything seemed to work great. Now however I cannot decide if I should set up the accounts on the INC to sync via exchange or google.
So first question - when using HTC Mail and setting up my gmail account as an exchange server account is it "true" push?
If it is why would anyone want to use the gmail app?
Next - when I set my calendar to sync via exchange it randomly takes my entries and duplicates them on places the duplicate on the day before the original one. Any idea why? When I remove the active sync calendar and have it sync with my google account everything is correct... this is strange to me since its pulling the same data from the same place, my google calendar.
I'm sure I'll add more confusing and rambling thoughts after I continue to mess with this thing.
Thanks!
from my understanding the gmail is instant push and the htc mail app refreshes every 5 minutes (minimum). if this makes a difference to you then it should make your decision easier. hope this helps

i had issues with gmail not pushing properly when set up as an exchange account via HTC mail. other than the push issue, i consider the HTC app superior in every way.
I just set the HTC mail to manual, turn off the notifications to HTC mail. I set gmail it notification on, then every time gmail pushes in the mail I check it with the HTC mail. After I check it the notification goes away.
This way you can still use HTC mail without it waisting battery power every 5 minutes pull checking.
I just set the HTC mail to manual, turn off the notifications to HTC mail. I let gmail push it notification still on, then check it with the HTC mail. After I check it the notification goes away.

Great idea! I'll have to remember this when my EVO arrives next week.

might do this. thanks for the idea
If you set up your gmail account as an exchange account using m.google.com you can get push by changing your check frequency to "as arrive".
The issue I'm having is that the HTC Mail application wont open any attachments from my gmail account set up through exchange. I just get a message "The file cannot be opened because it is corrupted."
If I open with the gmail application it works fine
As a regular Gmail user, I find the Android Gmail app is superior to the HTC mail app. It gives me the same features I have when using a computer... like marking a star on a conversation, viewing different labels, and since I have multiple email addresses that my Gmail account polls, the Gmail app lets me see which of my email addresses was the recipient. It's right there in the label on the email list, without having to open each mail and look at the address information.
If you don't use Gmail, or have multiple email addresses that AREN'T automatically polled by your Gmail account, I'd agree that HTC Mail is nice. But for me it takes away too many of the nice Gmail features that I use. My $.02

This doesn't push. It pulls. If you look closely you will see a refresh icon flash in your notification bar every 5 seconds. Extreme battery usage.
As far as opening up your attachments, set it for Imap. Its the only way I got it to work for attachments.

Expect copy and paste from it, which I use a lot.
i like gmail app, because there is a delete button haha
htc one need to hit menu and hit delete.
Gmail...
I found using the Gmail app and the HTC Mail separately, I was killing my battery faster.
What I ended up doing, was having GMail PULL my pop mail, and then I'd just pull it all through the gmail app. Helped my battery life a great deal.
Pro's - Everything in one place, Easy batch delete
Con's - I have to TELL it to load the entire message (Show Picture). In HTC I didn't have to do that.
Other than that, I'm happy to have everything centralized.

Facebook Contact sync no longer working

I still have the stock EVO as I purchased it Friday morning with no OTA update. When I setup Facebook for the first time I was able to sync my Facebook contacts. Now, I don't see that option and my Facebook contacts don't show up anymore in my People list. I still have my G1 (that I just handed over to my anti-techno wife) and I setup Facebook and the script to modify it to sync Facebook contacts. Do I do the same thing on my EVO and run the same script in order to make the Contact Sync available?

Contact list

ok i have all my contacts linked to my Gmail account so i can transfer from phone to phone...it's been successful going from the BB 8900 to the HTC Tilt 2 and finally to the HTC Aria. 90% of them are contacts that are linked to my facebook account...ie friends contact pictures changes as they update their facebook profile pic.
but what i've recognized having this benefit is that when fwding or composing email in the Gmail app...it pulls the email address and phone number of everyone in my facebook friends list. folks i don't care to or ever will contact, that are not in my Gmail contact list. this makes for even a longer list of names to scroll through..especially using common letters as A or C..etc.
is there a way to turn to this off? i mean only have the Gmail email app pull contacts from ONLY my gmail contact list/those contacts listed on my phone only.
Also interested if there is a working solution to this, for similar annoyance.

Some of what I miss about Sense

Contacts: I loved the sense contacts (People) app. I liked that I can assign a facebook account for each contact. I used it for getting my contacts' facebook profile pic as their display pic. worked fairly simple and if a user updates his profile facebook pic, his/her contact pic is also changed. I didn't use the other functions of Sense's facebook integration though. The status updates was poorly implemented and displays "this person has updated their facebook profile" for whatever that friend does on facebook.
Now with vanilla , the sync with all contacts that the official facebook app offers doesn't work as I want, cause:
- I have some facebook friends that I don't want them as contacts in my phone. facebook will always sync the contact if he/she has a phone number in their profile. Which, for some friends, I don't want.
- If the same person has different names in facebook and in my contacts list, I won't get his picture.
So, is their a way to fix this sync issue?
Or, can I get the sense Dailer/People app in vanilla?
Or, Is there a good alternative in the market?

HTML email view in Desire HD

I created the account with settings, although all the mails came back, somehow html view is not available anymore. it is difficult as i have loads of charts and graphs in mail to view. Can anyone help?
