I'm currently running the stock OS (2.3.1) and have two main issues. First, spell checking or the lack thereof. Second, having sent mail synchronized with my mailserver.
So, would rooting and installing a custom ROM help me achieve these?
Thanks for any advice!

Spell checking can be changed by going to "android keyboard"... and use the "email" to sync w/ your server,.

Hi there,
I read a bit about jail breaking the HTC Desire HD and I'm quite impressed by the advantages I would get. However, before doing that I was wondering to what extend I can still use the System Updates by HTC. Would I still be able to install them? Or would I need to install a new clockworkmod version which includes the HTC System Updates? I'm a bit lost ...
Thanks,
Rlaf
Answer is if u root u cant get over the air updates anymore but u cood download and install custom roms which are better in my opinion. I rooted using a great tutorial i can try find it if u want

Sweet. The link would be great. Could you send me links about custom ROMs as well? Thanks!
I'm in the same boat as you, still considering rooting and using a different rom. From what I saw so far cyanogenmod seems the coolest and has a ton of users so community support should be plentiful. Still trying to read up on the custom radios.

I just traded some one an HD7 for this MyTouch 4G.... Yayyy, back to Android ! Well, they already have it rooted and everything, but I like to start from scratch when I am modding my phones. I am coming from a Cliq so I'm not familiar with HTC. How should I go about unrooting the phone? And where should I start in the forum while trying to get familiar with modding this phone?
If it's already rooted, why unroot it? I would just make sure the latest recovery is installed, wipe it, and flash whatever ROM you want.
I'd you are looking to mod it... then you want to keep it rooted.
Its a good thing. You can even run the stock rom and make backups of all your apps and settings.
Root is good!

Correct. I would like to start from root and unroot it and know what the whole entire process is for this phone.
Any help out there? =P

Look in the development section... there are many threads with step by step instructions. Search is your friend.

search PD15IMG. Sets you back to stock and unroot.

+1....As Rockstarar said, the pd15img makes you go back to being unrooted. The pd15img is the stock OS image and the thread will on that will explain how to flash it.
After that I'd say check out the "Guide to permaroot" thread, that will explain the process in getting rooted permanently. Next you should check out the thread for clockworkmod Recovery 3.0.0.6, thats a version that enables us to flash both 2.2 and 2.3 base roms. Alot of ppl miss that thread and end up using the wrong recovery to flash roms and as a result they get boot loops.
After that you're good to go! Got alot of options in the development section to choose from, so pick ur poison
I remember when I jus started this thing I had no clue where to start so that should give you a nice guideline on how to get going
Thanks!! I can't wait to get started =P.
Good luck!
Is it possible to determine the type without rooting?

You have the good one then, you should have no trouble rooting the phone. Now if once rooted you ever want to go back to stock with S=ON you'll need to be very very careful that you dont try to go back to original firmware before reinstalling the original radio. You'll end up with something that cant be changed then.
Sorry fir the noob question but what is s on and s off

If you see S-ON in your bootloader that means radio security is on. S-OFF, which you would see after you have rooted the phone, means radio security is turned off and bootloader is unlocked.

I suggest taking your time and reading stickies in development forum, to familiarize yourself with the terms frequently used and to understand what is being talked about. It might be a much better way to learn that what you're doing.

There should be a sticky at the top of each sub-forum saying just that.

for some reason i am unable to reinstall google+
has anyone had this issue, or know a fix?
If you want help, you are going to have to be more specific.
1. What rom?
2. By what method? from the market? what error do you get, or what happens?
3. "reinstall"?
Maybe something wrong with your phone, I have Google+ on android 2.3.4 (meXdroid rom) & it works fine

While it may have worked on your phone, thid was not the case with my situation. It was not even in the market, I tried sendinh it thru text from google+ Website and was not able to because my device was not supported.
I posted this to see if anyone else had the same issue, not to be told that what I saw with my own eyes didnt happen.

no one said it didn't happen. it has been shown that it was user error, not some technical bug.
Please delete this posting, its pretty irrelevant. Thank you

So, I have 2.3 via the store and am considering going back to 2.2 so I can root and use a different ROM. The problem and my reason for posting is I cannot get sdk to install properly. I run it and it tries to update everything but fails and won't allow me to connect to my phone. Now do I need temproot before this will work or am I not installing it correctly? I have read a bunch of tutorials but haven't seen this issue come up. All help is appreciated.

have you tried installing just the ADB drivers? TrueBlue_drew has a great walk though. Link in my signature.
Can't see it from my phone but I will check it out when I get home. Thanks for the help and I'll keep you posted...

Windows requires administration privileges to download and install things on the SDK. Try right-clicking on the icon and selecting Run as Administrator.
OK, couldn't get it rolled back (lady was retarded on the phone) so what do I do now? I ran as admin and it looked for updates and such but found no virtual drives. Will anyone be willing to walk me through this over the phone?
OK! Got adb working now. How do I roll back? LOL I will be searching but in the meantime if you wanna add something, I would appreciate it.
