Hi there,
I read a bit about jail breaking the HTC Desire HD and I'm quite impressed by the advantages I would get. However, before doing that I was wondering to what extend I can still use the System Updates by HTC. Would I still be able to install them? Or would I need to install a new clockworkmod version which includes the HTC System Updates? I'm a bit lost ...
Thanks,
Rlaf
Answer is if u root u cant get over the air updates anymore but u cood download and install custom roms which are better in my opinion. I rooted using a great tutorial i can try find it if u want

Sweet. The link would be great. Could you send me links about custom ROMs as well? Thanks!
I'm in the same boat as you, still considering rooting and using a different rom. From what I saw so far cyanogenmod seems the coolest and has a ton of users so community support should be plentiful. Still trying to read up on the custom radios.

does ubrevoked work for rooting DHD because the root method is abit complicated I heard unrevoked roots any 2.2 device which run 2.2 out of the box.

Have a look for visionary+
Not sure if Unrevoked is only for the original Desire but the above will do the job nicely.
Is it an easy root? That's all I want a a few clicks and walla a rooted DHD
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
Doesn't come much easier, run the app and hit root! If that's all you want then you're done!
If you want to start flashing custom roms though you will need to s-off your phone though. A little more in depth but still not too bad.
That's the what is s off also I might as well root after the official gingerbread release or should I just root now?
Which would be best.

Depends what you want to do with the DHD ... I forgot to mention also that you will need a custom recovery image if you want to start flashing roms. Again, all pretty straight forward if you follow the instrucitons to the letter.

I suspect that afte rooting you'll not be too bothered about ota updates from your carrier as the stock unbranded rom is likely to get updates sooner and the custom roms will always incorporate the latest releases anyway.
In answer to the question though I'm not sure in all honesty.
thanks for all your help.

Haha! Well, it might help if there was actually a question in your first post
But in presuming you're looking to root it, check the Development topics, lots of ROM's to choose from, guides in there to follow on step by step instructions on how to do it.
I would suggest reading through those first before asking questions though as many people ask the same questions
Yeah im familiar with roms ect but i just wanted to no if his model was compatible with visionary thanks for help dude also its branded tmobile so would i make a goldcatd before or after rooting to debrand

yep it will, before you flash a custom rom though, you need to check out the 2 s-off tools in the developent section (Radio & ENG) after you root, run both of thoes tools from your pc, you can then use rom manager to install clockworkmod recovery, then your free to install all the custom roms you want
After you install Clockwork, don't forget to take a backup of your T-Mobile ROM just in case anything happens you can flash it back to stock.
Yeah cool guys so
1. Root with visionary.
2.Permroot
3. S.off ENG
4. Install rom manager and install clockwork.
5. Flash rom?

You should get radio s-off as well as eng s-off ng
Sent from my Desire HD pocket rocket.
Then you can go on dev boards and learn about radios and things like that, but that is the stuff that can brick you're phone as my friend recently found out with his desire HD, but if you follow instructions and don't unplug half way through :L you should be fine!
I no about radios and roms im a desire user just needed help sorting my bros dhd for him

I just bought a htc hd desire .. wanting to change the rom .. risk of losing the warranty?
Not at all if you do the OTE ginger upgrade.

If you flash a custom rom warranty is gone, but of course OTA and official roms are fine.

How to start? are inexperienced,
Pretty much all the guides are here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=936214
Do read carefully and know exactly what your doing and what should happen before doing it, will save you from any trouble or headaches.
I have friend that has a Droid X and she wants me to root it for her to help her with her battery life. I have a rooted HTC Inspire and it's crazy how much my battery has improved w/ rooting, custom ROMs, and using SetCPU. After looking around in your forums, I've noticed that even though they're both Android phones they are completely different in the wrold of how to root. I have a few questions and hope you can help me out.
1. What is easiest way to root? I see somethings about z4root, but not sure since it's no longer in the market. I have noticed that this phone is about 1,000 times easier to root than my Inspire was.
2. I see that you guys have no luck w/ ROM Manager. Why and what should I be using for the Droid. The guys in HTC and Inspire forums swear by ROM Manager and I've had nothing but luck with it.
3. Since there are dedicated webpages to the Droids, can I find more ROMs there as it seems there aren't as many choices here for the Droid X as there are in the Inspire forum.
Thank you for the help.
Is she running on Gingerbread? If so, there is currently no root method except to SBF to Froyo, root that with a tool such as z4root, then download and install a pre-rooted version of gingerbread available online.

The X is a relatively simple phone to work with as far as root is concerned. Like the previous poster said, if she has taken the latest update, you'll have a few extra steps, but its still pretty easy. As far as Rom Manager goes, it works great for the X, but you have to use the Droid X bootstrapper in order to use it successfully. The biggest factor for the X is that the boot loader is locked, so while we can run custom roms, we don't have the same freedom as other phones. Everything you need to know about rooting is pretty easy to find in these forums, so have fun.

As get as ROMs go can you guys point met in the direction of Blur based ones. I know she's going to want to keep it blur based because that's what she's used to.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA Premium App
imho i wasnt to fobd of the roms i found. i personally had to many probs, but thats my phone and im on cricket so i need the stock progmenu apks lol. but rubix was really good. and alot of ppl like. liberty w/blur. or u could try the prerooted gb. runs really nice. maybe u could get it working better than me lol.

I sbf back to froyo using rsdlite. Then I rooted using z4root, droid 2 bootstrapper, and flashed Liberty 2.0.1, which is a froyo build rom. Liberty is now in the early builds of a GB based version, but I hear it's buggy right now. 2.0.1 runs like a dream! It's about 20 times faster than my stock DX has EVER been, and I haven't had a reboot yet. I kept my launcher, Open Home 6 so I could keep the home screen settings like I had them, and I'm still using Widget Locker to keep my lock screen custom..
thx for the info. think i will check it out

As long as the exploit has not been patched by HTC then it will work otherwise you need to dev-unlock and flash insecure boot.img then run HTC Quick Root.

The Incredible 4G is locked up tight. We can't get root via any exploit, and dev unlock was only available for a short time after release, then was removed. Nobody can get s-off, either. I bought mine thinking dev unlock still worked, then found out that it was revoked the very next day. Needless to say we need help rooting.
Thanks for the effort, though. If you have any ideas on the Incredible 4G, please share on the threads over there. We really need help.

I share your pain Captain. Stuck with the Inc4G myself with no s-off. Got it locked down tight, really missing my shift right about now
Doesn't work for the latest OTA of Evo Shift 4G. =/
There is a chance I might have done something wrong, but I have continuously tried different ways so I highly doubt it.
