It was suggested that we start a thread specifically for the apps that run well on the Android port to the HTC Touch/Vogue. I personally own an (Sprint=CDMA) HTC Touch Diamond, but upon seeing the maturity level of Android running on the Touch, I immediately went to eBay and picked up the Touch handset...and I am glad I did. The only reason I boot back to winmo is for work calendar (Lotus), Skype (iSkoot kinda sucks), and Podcasts (hopefully we getting DoggCatcher soon).I've found that battery life with Togga on to be about 8-10 hours which I can live with it, but it's a pain to keep toggling if you really need to conserve (but it could be worse )I plan on posting more battery data soon, but need a few more days of collection. Hopefully we can find a more permanent way of managing the data connection with balance for battery life.
You can find many apps on http://slideme.org/, AndAppStore (both have phone clients - very market-like) and by searching ".apk" on 4shared.com
The apps I have found to run well on my CDMA with dzo/f00bar's (much respect) latest files:
-Scoreboard - I'm not that big of a sports fan, but this app is slick!
-aLastFM - Just got permission to post the link from the developer. Thanks Oleg!!
-Stocker - Simple but effective stock app, but no graphs. If someone could find a better one...
-Weather - Simple, but effective. Multiple Cities, current and forecast, with menu link to detailed outlook including radar from Undergroud Weather.
-AnyCut -Great for making shortcuts to just about any screen in the OS, especially useful for Battery and Sounds&Display
-TextEasy - for sending a text to multiple contacts, until someone can get a hold of ChomperSMS or K9SMS (K9Mail I have not gotten to work either, we need a better mail app, the native client doesn't even recognize URLS, wtf?!)
-OIFileManager - It's the only one I've tried, so can't comment on the others, but there are several out there. UPDATE: I tried out Astro and Glance. I liked Astro, but after a day it stopped working for me and gives me a force quit. I prefer Glance over OI FileManager, it's on 4shared I believe.
-OIFlashlight - amazing how handy this comes in
-OINewsReader - No frills RSS aggregator
-ShopSavvy - Did you say "We'll match any price"?...but be fast with your fingers, camera is not fine enough to capture the barcode
UPDATE:
I wanted to add SMS PopUp as another great app. You can find it along with a bunch of other APKs here. One of the G1 owners that grabbed all of the apps and is hosting them for download.
WANTED:
-DoggCatcher - for my daily podcast fix
-A true Skype client
-HEADPHONE SUPPORT!!
Please post replies with your own favorite apps that run well on this port (with links, please!)
Cheers!
Wow, no replies?!
I'm looking for SMS PopUp if anyone can post a link.
Cheers!
The Meebo app is well worth a look - look for it on 4shared.com. Lets you IM on just about any IM network (Yahoo, MSN, AIM etc). IMs appear in the notification bar while you are in any other program. Great stuff.
I believe im the only person hosting the meebo.apk at the moment.
Meebo Instant Messenger:

I did recieve the "ok" from the meebo!
thanks

i installed and signed into my MSN account, however, just a white screen shows up. No list of contacts, etc. No menu options other than to add another account or sign off. Not exactly useful (at least this version). Is anyone using this successfully?
EDIT: I received a chat, and that gave me a buddy online, maybe no one on my list was signed on at the time I first checked.
Also, it doesnt remember your username and password, which is annoying because it randomly closed on me after tapping the notification in the bar during a chat session today. I'll keep looking for a better app or updated version.

you might be the only one who got the 'ok' from meebo but as i said, it can be found on 4shared.com also.
What about an updated version of Shopsavvy. Mine keeps saying there is a new version, but of course we can't update off the marketplace.
I'm looking for the Locale application. Even though we don't have GPS running, Locale still alows profile switching based on time and days of the week, which would be useful for office vs. non-office settings. If someone could post this I would appreciate it!

If they are in the AndroidApps folder then they should be installed already. I found that sometimes icons don't show up to launch the program, however. This is where AnyCut comes in handy. Use AnyCut to search in "Activities" to find your app. If you are not seeing it in this list then you may have to "manually" install the app. Open a file browser such as OI File Manager or Glance and navigate to your AndroidApps folder. Click on the .apk file and it should launch teh app installer.
Hope this helps.

Scoreboard.apk
I am very interested in the Scoreboard app, I got it running fine, but the other day the game I added to my favorite never really gave me updates until the game was over by a few hours.
Isnt this application able to provide real-time results?
I am having more success simply by going to www.nhl.com :-S
Thanks for aLastFM!
I was looking around and found another 4shared user with a bunch of APK's!

Someone in the main topic said something about an ebay app. What is it and is it any good? Is it secure? It'd be nice to have for me.
There's been a couple apps I liked that didn't fit our screen plus having to reinstall android files often I lose all my saved info so it doesn't work out for me. Sprint needs to hurry up with an HTC Android phone.
Maybe a stupid question, not sure... Why can't someone extract the android market application from the G1 to be used on other phones? Seems a bit odd of Google to limit the market to only a specific phone.
There is a discussion about the marketplace on the big long forum. The marketplace is not open source. They're talking about the commands and encryption and such for it. I'd think it's not open because they plan on having pay for apps but I could be wrong
G1 Central
This is a must have for any one with a Grand Central account- G1 Central
http://evancharlton.com/projects/g1central
Allows you to place calls and check voicemail for your GrandCentral account. Pretty much allows for unlimited free calling. Works great on my friends G1.
Still missing a few features.. like the ability to call contacts that are only in your GC account, but still very good.
Heres the problem.. it crashes when trying to dial out on the Vogue!!! Ahhh!
So close to beating the telecoms... If anyone knows anything about error codes or how to get this working, I might have a GrandCentral account invite...

I noticed this also. i resolved by changing my time zone in settings. Only problem is that this then modifies your "synced" time with your carrier, it adjusts + or - according to your time zone, so you have to comensate...each time you boot. Not by any means an elegant solution, but if you need realtime scores this is the answer. Probably better off sticking with NHL.com

I tried the "Ebay.apk" from 4Shared, but it doesn't display properly. The tabs extend all the way to the bottom of the other screen which is a common problem for us vogue port users.
UPDATE: I have tested this build with a "virgin" GMail account, and the entire Donut Market shows up just fine!
If you're using Donut for the first time, I recommend download the file from my link here, until it gets posted on the vogue-hero site. At that point, I will be taking this link down, so as not to convolute things.
Download here: http://code.google.com/p/vogue-hero/
Hopefully Zenulator will grab this fixed system.sqsh and put it up on his vogue-hero google code page so that this bug doesn't affect anyone further.
Of course credit to this build goes 99% to Zenulator, as all I did was take his donut build modify a file here and a permission there.
ANOTHER UPDATE: Good news folks, after logging into this build with my "virgin" GMail account, and downloading a bunch of Market apps, I went back to my "corrupted" GMail account, and the Market all showed up like it should. Hurrah! Step by step, here's what I did:
- Loaded up this build
- Logged in with an uncorrupted GMail account (that is, an account that had never logged into Donut before)
- Loaded up the Market, downloaded a bunch of apps and games I wanted
- Went to Home-> Settings-> Applications-> Manage Applications
- Cleared the data/cache for the following apps: GMail, GMail Storage, GoogleApps, Google Settings Provider
- Did a Force Quit on the Market app (but did NOT clear the cache... I don't know how important this step is, but it's what I did)
- Clicked on GMail, and since I had cleared the cache/data, it asked me to sign into my Google Account again, so I used my previous, corrupted GMail account
- Went back to Market, and everything was there.
Thanks, craig0r! *waits*

As some people have noticed, on the latest donut-ion build, when you go into the Market, you only see 20-30 apps and games. And even when you go back into Cupcake, this issue remains, unless you create a new GMail account and use that. But who wants to migrate their gmail accounts and inform all their contacts that they've got a new email address. No one, that's who.
So, I've managed to make a new donut build that *appears* to have fixed the Donut Market losing all but 20-30 apps. I'm scrolling through "All Applications" and watching more and more apps load right now. I will post this build shortly, I want to test it out a bit. Also, I've just done a couple of other fixes that I think may fix the remaining audio issues. Then again, it may not. Once I've tested these things, I'll put it up somewhere and update this thread.

Sweet a$$.... if Market + Audio gets fixed the only real remaining issue is end button (home, then sleep doesn't work). Can't wait!!!
Alright... it's not as exciting as I first though. Yes, as soon as I loaded the new build up I had a lot more apps in the Market. I thought this to mean everything was magically fixed. It's not. However, as someone mentioned in another thread, the apps seem to come back slowly over time, as long as you're using the Donut build. I'm not sure if this build accelerates that process or not. If you've been affected by the Donut Market Corruption bug, I suggest trying this build out and seeing if it makes a difference for you, and report back here. I pulled the fingerprint setting from a Sapphire donut build that seems to have a working Market.
That being said, this build *MIGHT* fix the Donut Market for anyone using Donut for the first time. If anyone has a second GMail account that they want to test this build with (a Donut-virgin GMail account) I would love to hear feedback as to whether the entire Market shows up properly.
Here's the link:

*NOTE: The audio fixes I was trying to implement need to be applied to the rootfs. I'm waiting to hear back from zenulator about the command I should use to re-create the rootfs.img file... unless there's someone else who knows what command I should use.
there's no commands to rebuild it.
Simply make a mount
mkdir /mnt/rootfs
Mount it
mount -o loop rootfs.img /mnt/rootfs
add or replace whichever files you need, donut libs go in their own folder, and unmount
umount /mnt/rootfs.
Whammo, you're done.

The issue is that I'm adding a file to the rootfs, and it tells me "No space left on device" so it seems like I have to rebuild it.
than you need to remove some stuff, if it's just lib's your changing you just have to add them to the system/lib folder and delete the ones in the rootfs lib folder.
thanks for the fix craig0r i'll take a look and put it up at vogue-hero.

Does vice versa work, too? I mean if i got the libs in the rootfs are they needed in the systen image? Or can i remove them to save place?

I'm not sure about that specifically, but I tried moving libsoundpool.so (which I saw errors about during a logcat) into rootfs/lib/donut, and it just caused more issues. So if that's what you were planning on doing, I wouldn't worry about it.
Someone else can probably answer your question better though. From my limited experience with rootfs, moving libraries between rootfs and system arbitrarily seems to cause boot problems. At least in my case.

I created a new account instead of signing in with an existing account and the market definitely has more apps, but it still does not look like all of them. Can someone tell me how many apps they are seeing under "communication"? I am only seeing 4 apps. I see nothing in comics, health, news, shopping and themes and I see one app in some of the other categories. Is this what the rest of you are seeing? Should I be patient because more may start showing up over the next few days?
I am going to try the rest of your walkthru and see if I can get at least this many apps on my regular google account.
UPDATE: I logged in with my regular google account and was able to see the same number of apps as my test account. I did notice that a couple of apps (Appmanager, Locale, Sudoku Free, and SportsTap) got added to my market. These are apps that I've had installed/downloaded in cupcake. So now I have two apps (SportsTap and Wapedia) listed on the main "Featured" screen. I am really hoping that more get added.

Well, presuming that your test account had never logged into Donut before on the Vogue, the only other thing I can think of is that it might be location and/or carrier related. Where are you located and who's your provider? Maybe someone else in your region can verify.
I'm on Telus in Canada, and I get the whole market with this method, with the exception of the paid apps. Once Market Enabler works with Donut, we should be able to get the paid apps too.

as long as you have release keys in the build.prop you should be good. you're account is prob already affected by the bug and thats why all the apps aren't showing even in non donut builds. hero/ion based builds should already have release keys. also i already had a donut build out with release keys but didn't push it because the ion build was faster i just didn't realize it had the test keys still in there because my market was already messed up. the fix does work for new accounts and old accounts that weren't showing that many apps now show more but still not all of them.

HI all, this past weekend Kies popped up with a notification that there was a firmware upgrade for my Galaxy S. I immediately downloaded and installed it, I guess a newbie mistake. When completed I found that all my apps vanished and my settings went back to out of the box state. Though annoying I spent much of Saturday morning trying to get my phone back to where I had it before the update. The issue now though is that when I log into the market I find I am unable to download certain apps, I get to the install button on the phone then I get an error message "file not found". This is troublesome as there are a few apps that I had before the upgrade that I can no longer install, including paid apps, (examples Pandora, Pure Calendar) nor am I able to install certain new apps. I read that the market will no longer display protected content after this upgrade. I spoke to Samsung who told me to take the phone back to the Bell store. Bell told me to call Samsung as it is a firmware issue
Has anyone else experienced this, and does anyone know of a solution to the problem.
Thank you

Some people suffered market problems after upgrading to the UK-released JM1 last week. Apparently Samsung has to notify Google that they released an official update, so that Google allows access to paid and copy protected apps for that firmware. It took a couple of days for everyone to see everything over here. Maybe you just have to wait a bit (?)
Same happened here in Australia.. It was fixed the next day. I called Samsung to complain about it (when it was still happening) and was told that there was nothing they could do (which seemed like rubbish to me)..
If you are updating to a unsupported (beta) fw, make sure you install a rom or replace your build.prop file with a supported fw file.
Hi my phone is a month old now, everything is stock..no mods so far..I am having multiple problems with my phone.
- I cannot download anything from Market..it starts download and then 'download unsuccessful'
- FM radio never worked for me, not even after manually tuning it.
- I am not able to use wifi..it just says 'obtaining address...'
I did a factory reset yesterday and after that I was able to download 2~3 apps from Market..but today I am facing the same issue again.
Please help me guys..
Thanks guys for the help, it turns out that the issue was exactly what you said, but maybe more to the point, my own impatience.
Thanks again

I am on the Captivate running the beta I897UCJH2 firmware. I have market issue with some apps (e.g., Asphalt 5 HD, Fandango, and G4Tv) not showing up. I tried your method of copying over the build.prop file from the official I897UCJF6 firmware release. Even rebooted after doing that. The missing apps never showed up, so I reverted back to the JH2 build.prop file. Any other suggestions to fix my issue?
P.S. - Spoke too soon. This does work. Someone suggested clearing Market cache, followed by reboot, and then installing and reinstalling a couple of apps. And that did the trick.
from what i can gather it seems to be related to a location issue, as in certain apps will not show up for some countries and other apps will, etc.
so if you load firmwares from different geographic location the market is filtering what it allows/not allows bassed on the rom firmware location.
it'll be great if we can remove that filter and have it show everything online.
the work around that i do is find and download the apps via browser, instead of market
also avoid the barcode scanner downloads, which just launches the market app

Are you saying there a site where I can get the all the apks for these missing apps downloaded by bypassing the market? I have never run across it so far. Every one of the solutions so far has the phone launching the market app at some point, which fails, as the apps are not listed or downloadable there. The apps I am talking about are all free and should be legally able to be sideloaded, but how?
My grandson is about to receive an eLocity A7 and we have been told he would have to download/install recent firmware updates.
#1- Is this a difficult procedure for a 12 year old to do?
#2- We also learn there have been two firmware updates: Version 2.0121 and then Version 2.0124. Is that true?
#3- If he has an older firmware version on his unit, will he have to download both of these updates? Of will he need to download/install the latest one (2.0124) and that would contain all updates in previous version updates?
Please advise soonest and thank you for your help.
Alice
1. It is not difficult. Manual is there - http://elocitynow.com/support_downloads.shtml
You must learn two important things:
- copy update.zip to root directory at sd-card (and do not unpack it)
- plug in ac-adapter (if charge < 50% and ac-adapter does not used, device may turn off while update process is running -> it can brick device).
2. Yeah. It's true. 2.0124 last...
3. I think update 2.0124 contains all previous updates, cause Stream TV Networks posted their updates at same place...
You cann't find update 2.0121 at official site.
Hi Alicez,
Here's the link to the firmware updates page from eLocity/stream networks.
http://www.elocitynow.com/support_downloads.shtml
This provides the details on downloading and installing the update(s).
You should only need to run the latest update which will include previous patches.
This isn't too difficult, but you may want to supervise just in case.
Also, you will need a MicroSD Card to load the update file(s), in case you don't already have one.
While it is not necessary to run the updates before using the tablet. However, it is highly recommended for optimum performance. It is also worth noting that when you apply updates, you should perform a factory reset on the device before updating (unless its brand new of course). So if you do intend on running the updates, I suggest you do so, prior to using it too much otherwise you will loose your personal settings/data during the update.
Also to gain access to the Google Market, Gmail, G-Maps, etc. you will want to think about applying the DexterMod
(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=890042)
NOTE - the "DexterMod" is not supported by Stream/eLocity.

Thank you very much for your answer.
I am sorry, but I do not understand the above.
Do you mean I should charge the eLocity A7 COMPLETELY before I input the SD card (with the 2.0124 download on it) ?
Or, should I keep the AC power cord plugged into the wall socket after I input the SD card?
Thank you.

#1- I am a bit confused about the above "perform a factory reset."
What is that? Would that reset the unit to the factory settings that originally came with the unit? I would not have to do that since we have not received the tablet as yet. Do you suggest that as soon as we unpack it, we perform the update of the new Version 2.0124 version? Not doing "factory reset?"
BTW:
#2- What is: Google Market, etc.? DexterMod? Remember, we are completely new to all of this.
#3- Will he be able to watch YouTube Videos and access AOL (free email) and Hotmail on the unit right "out of the box?"

Do you mean I should charge the eLocity A7 COMPLETELY before I input the SD card (with the 2.0124 download on it) ?
Or, should I keep the AC power cord plugged into the wall socket after I input the SD card?

Stream TV Networks strongly recommends keep the AC power cord plugged into the wall socket before input the sd card and start update
But it's not necessary if charge is more than 50%. This limit isn't accurate, it may be 60%, 75% or anything more... Just notice, if you does not using AC adapter and charge equals 20% (30%, 40%) - you may face with problems, so should charge to 50%+ or stay charged.

#1- The "Update.zip" file (93MB - big file!) on the SD card should be put into the 'slot' on the eLocity just as it is. Correct? No other files on the SD card.
#2- Then the 'Update.zip" will be unzipped by the eLocity and AUTOMATICALLY installed to the eLocity. Corret?

Does this eLocitiy play YouTube videos (right out of the box)?
My grandson really likes watch those videos, but somebody said 'tablets' do NOT play all YouTube videos.
Please advise soonest because if it doesn't play YouTube videos, I will have to return.
Hi ALicez,
A factory reset is just as you stated, "a reset to factory settings", this would revert the firmware (updates, if you have any) back to what the tablet came pre-installed with.
As 5[Strogino] states you will want to charge up the tablet before doing the update, and leave it plugged in during the update process (which can take approx 10mins or more). I would go ahead and get familiar with the tablet and its menus, functions, etc. before running the update, just so you know what you're dealing with.
As 5[Strogino] states, once you run the update the tablet should do the rest (unpacking the zip file, etc).
Regarding the Google Market, this is one of the main features of the Android OS, which allows you to download and install applications from various vendors, many are free and some are for a small cost (usually $1-$3). Almost all tablets currently for sale do not have the Android/Google market pre-installed as Google has set very strict requirements for allowing this application to be pre-installed (mostly cell phones have this). Fortunately, many in the development community (such as Dexter and his Mod) have created update files that provide this application and all its glory to these tablets.
As far as using the tablet without the market, yes you absolutely can. The internet browser is 100% functional and HAS full adobe flash pre-installed, which many other tablets do not have. So, yes you can check email, watch videos, etc with no additional modifications. I will say that many popular websites and email providers have "Apps" available on the Android/Google Market that make checking email faster and easier (such as not having to use the browser to access email, and allowing for login/credential saving). So in my opinion, it is worth the extra effort to install the DexterMod which will provide these goodies. Installing the DexterMod is just as easy as installing an update. Hope this helps!
And yes there are some sites and videos that either do not play at all or play correctly. You Tube should be fine, Hulu does not work, but sites such as ComedyCentral work just fine for me. Also many sites such as You Tube have Apps in the Google Market to aid in this effort. Unfortunately though video is more dependent on the content (video) providers website development and architecture (optimized for mobile, etc.) than the tablet itself.

How do we get GoogleMarket? Or if not possible, how do we get the DexterMod, so we can download free apps? Are these free items, etc. Can my grandson do the downloading by himself, or is it difficult?

Yes, absolutely.
There is a YouTube app that allows you to view YouTube videos. You can also go directly to YouTube.com with the browser and play videos just like on your computer.
Can someone answer my question in #12 above:
"How do we get GoogleMarket? Or if not possible, how do we get the DexterMod, so we can download free apps? Are these free items, etc."
This unit already has "Getjar" apps. Is that the same as GoogleMarket? Or do I still need GoogleMarket? Please advise as we are new at this and I am trying to get this set-up so my grandson can use it to it's fullest potential.
Thanks
Alice

Getjar is an "App Market" of sorts that come with the A7. Google MArket is a superior Market and easier to use. I would recomend installing the DexterMod that already has the Google Market and Google apps preinstalled.
Go here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=890042
download the ElocityMod v1.1 and install the same as you would the official eLocity update. You have to rename it from "ElocityModv11.zip" to "Update.zip" prior to installing.
ElocityMod v1.1 is basically the Official eLocity update with the Google Market and Google Apps already added.
dexter mod
http://dext3r.komodin.org/
Here is the dexter mod link. About mid way down on the page you will find the elocity a7 file. Just download , then rename it to "Update.zip" and install just like regular firmware update. This will pre-install google market, etc. You may want to sign up for a gmail account first, so you don't have to mess with that part after the install as this needed for the market.
Should also be instructions on dexters site or elsewhere on this site (xda) use search bar above to find more.
Getjar is sorta like the google market but has significantly less apps available.
Also since this is for a minor, suggest setting parental controls in the settings menus.

Is it the one for ElocityModv 1.0c.zip from dext3r.kamodin.org for 95MB?
Please, what do you mean by "and install just like regular firmware update?" I'm getting a bit confused and mixed-up, and don't want to do anything wrong with this new Elocity.
Also, I see in the Quick Start guide: "To delete an icon, press and hold the icon, then remove it to the Recycle bin."
We tried that and it does not work. We tried to delete the Facebook and the Amazon MP3 icons, but they still remain on the desktop. How can we remove?
Thanks

Elocity A7
A Quick fix custom rom for the tegra2 tablet with root, googleapps and improved game support.
28-dec-2010 ElocityMod v1.0c ElocityMod v1.0c
Initial release with googleapps, root and wma/wmv audio support + build.prop fixes.
Wow, talk about confusing, the A7 is a whole new world to me.
I've had computers for years, currently I have two running XP & 7, plus I have two laptops running XP & 7. I understand a lot when it comes to computers, but the A7 is so different.
I've downloaded & printed the User Manual and I have read it several times. I've read numerous posts on this forum and now I'm confused. I feel so dumb. Too many words that I don't understand. I want to learn everything I can about running every aspect of this tablet, but it's like just as I learn one thing, the next time it doesn't work that way.
I need more reading material. Whether it be links to posts, books to read, anything to help me understand what I am doing. I make notes of things I have read so that I will remember what to do next time. Post something to help me, PM me or even email me.
I will be so greatfull for any help given.
Thank you
The user manual you can download on elocity's site is useless because there is a lot of things that were never edited out to match the actual release version of the tablet.
As far as computer knowledge and relating it to the a7 or android in general, windows knowledge will not get you very far. A good working knowledge of Unix/Linux will give you a much better idea of what's going on behind the scenes since android is based on Linux (loosely, in my opinion) but still functions very similarly.
If you have any programming or web design experience, I would recommend downloading the android sdk and do some playing around with simple programs. Also with the sdk you can make a virtual android device to monkey around with without fear of messing up your new $300 toy I use eclipse as my development environment in Linux, not sure what a good windows alternative would be, but the structure of an android app is pretty easy to follow. There are example programs and source available on the android developer site developer.android.com if I remember correctly (same place to get the sdk). And the language itself tends to be pretty similar to writing a Java app.
I've probably missed the mark completely on the information you were trying to find, but if you are anything like me, you'll find hours (years if it gets you going down the Linux/Unix path lol) of obsession with just this info.
Hopefully it gets you on the opensource band wagon (the reason I love Linux/Android)
Wow...where to start? Well, you got that you turn it on and slide the lock to the dot to unlock. Then you are in a "home page". There are 5 of them. there are dots at the top of the screen showing which home page ur on. Usually the center one. Touch the screen and slide one way or the other to move the home pages.
If you touch the square whitish pad at the right of the screen with a bunch of darker squares in it, it takes you to your apps - the programs that do what you want.
If you touch an app it runs. Touch the return arrow just to the right of the screen to close the app and go back. It always takes u back.
You have to "root" the machine to get the good apps. Usually with Dexters mod. This is easy. You download the file, rename it to upgrade.zip, place it on a micro SD card, and go to settings/About Device/System Updates/ then touch update device.
The home button at the right side of the screen always takes you to the center home page. - It DOES NOT close the app you have open at the moment.
you should get an app closer to close all of the un-closed apps for you.
Oh yea, android market place is the app you want to add all of the apps you want.
You get it with Dexters Mod (4.1 right now)
and there is tons more...............
Based on Linux ... now I understand why this is confusing to me. I've never worked with it before, but I understand from fellow users, they like it better than Windows OS.
I've never done any programming or web design, but maybe it's not too late to learn something new.
I thank both of you for your info and appreciate everything you have said.
mrpete2u I really appreciated the details of your instructions. I know I'm a dummy at this, and I'm sure there are more of you guys out there to help.
Thanks

Another newbie jumping in....and trying to figure this out. To "root" the machine do I need to update the firmware from the elocity site or can I jump to Dexters right away. If so, where do I find that?
Thanks for your advice.
your a7 is rooted already with dexters mod or elocity firmware.
My Kernel version is 2.6.32.9-svn2514
[email protected]#1
And Build # PBJ8000.2.0124
And ECv is 0.14
Would you mind explaining what these numbers mean, please?
Thank you

look here for Dexter mod forget about the stock rom ....
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=890042
I have now updated to 2.0.0133
Now I need to figure out how to get the market icon so I can start looking for more apps & games. Tried downloading earlier and it keeps telling me that I have downloaded to my phone? I don't have a fancy phone to download to.
Here I am again confused, but what's new about that!!
There is a thread in the device section on adding market to stock rom.
Or you could just run elocitymod by Dexter.
I did run the elocity mod 1.41 and my firmware was updated to 2.0.0133
When I am on market.android's site, they want my phone number so they can download the app to my phone.
I'm trying to download the app to my tablet.
Am I confused or what
Thanks for answering me.

Yes, yes you are lol
For all intents and purposes (as far as Google is concerned at least) your tablet is a phone.
Install market enabler on the a7 and fake a cell provider. The a7 should show up on the Google market website after that.
You didn't install dextermod and then apply eLocity update over it did you? Just want to be sure.
Your laughing at me .... that's ok ... right now I'm so new at this, I really don't care, in fact I am laughing at myself for being so dumb.
I went to dexter's site and downloaded a file called elocitymod1.41 and renamed it to update.zip and that is what I installed.
OK I will install market enabler
Thank you again for helping this dummy .... LOL
From the perceived tone of the post prior to my last one, I thought you were already at the laughing stage. I thought I was just laughing along, sorry for the mix up.
Sounds like you are doing everything right. I just wanted to make sure that we were dealing with a clean install of elocitymod, and not something mixed together by trying to ally another update on top of it.
Needless to say ... I am still confused.
Installed the market enabler, but I am not getting anywhere.
Why I try to install an app I get a message telling me there is no phone attached to this account and they want me to log in with another account. When I try creating a new account, there is no place to give a phone number and I get all those stupid messages again.
Just wondering if I am too dumb, because you all make this seem so easy, that maybe I should give up and figure out other ways to get apps and leave the android market site alone???
Sorry if I have frustration in my voice, but I guess I thought this would be easier.

Why not just use market from the tablet? I wouldn't stress so much about trying to get it to work and remotely install from the web site.
Each time I go to the site, I am on my tablet. Mainly because it has a direct install button and not a download, so I want to be on the tablet to install on it.

So are you hitting the Market icon (opening the Market app) or are you trying to open http://market.android.com/ in the web browser?
