[Q] Problem with RUU - EVO Shift 4G General

I have tried the RUU with debugging on and off, on bootloader, on fastboot and can't get it to work. I am back on the stock rom and tried factory reset. I am on Windows 7 so I tried running the RUU on compatibility mode "windows xp sp3" still no luck. Not sure what to try next. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you

Try running it as administrator. Right click the ruu and select run as administrator. USB debugging doesn't matter for that, you want the phone just turned on like you were using it, and plugged in.

How about htc sync mode, it worked for me.
perm#rooted shi(f)t via XDA app...gbL

I did run it as administrator and i tried having the phone connected to htc sync when i lanched the RUU but that didnt work either. I believe it has to do with Windows 7 (64bit) so hopefully i can find an XP computer.

I'm running Win 7 x64 and don't have a problem running RUU at all, I've done it with my Hero and the Shift many times. Try going in and turning off UAC in the user settings of control panel. It requires a reboot, but that UAC is useless imo, and also blocks a lot of things. But turn it off, reboot try the RUU then turn it back on if you wish. Personally it's the first thing I shut off on fresh Win Vista/7 installs.

I do have uac turned off. i think it is the fact i got the driver from pdanet before i setup htc sync. i havent had problems using adb and fastboot. thanks at least i know it is supposed to work with windows 7 64 bit.

You shouldn't need to dl a driver, you can try uninstalling the driver through device manager while it's connected and then just let windows install it's drivers, that's all I did. Just plucking straws here to get you working.

You should uninstall pdanet, HTC sync and all drivers.
Then reinstall only HTC sync. Try that.

No change, all is the same. If you moved from XP, the only difference is that Activesync is replaced by WMDC.
You must run update utility via right mouse clicking and selecting Run as administrator
Would that be the same for Task 29?
WOW....and thats all I'm going say about this thread
Ive been trying for awhile and it hasn't worked for me. The sync for win7 says it works for up to 6.0 not 6.5 its the only reason I can think of why it won't work. I've tried the updates , no dice. When I connect usb, I can either charge out disk drive but not sync. I have to wait to connect with my brothers xp laptop to see if its win7 or my hd2 that's j jacked

yep same problem for me when i first started using windows 7. if you cant get a connection try this
if your going to flash custom roms just go into the boot-loader connect usb and load the hspl file on the computer go through the menus until it starts searching for the phone and eventually should find it and USB will appear in the bottom of the phone screen.
then install the rom you want by using the SD card via boot-loader (power and down)
after its done take battery out and put back in and then hold volume up and down and press power. should have a message asking to restore manufacturer default settings press up and should wipe the phone. take the battery out again do the process once more to wipe the phone at the end when it asks you to boot the phone up press volume up.
all should be fine after that
Yeah, that still doesn't solve the problem of being able to flash with windows 7 through WMDC. Us n00bs likes its simple, mmkay?

[Q] Question!

Hi,
I have a XV6900 (and I just registered on this site as well ), and it has the WM6.1 loaded on it. I wanted to put the NFSFans WM6.5 as the OEM ROM is too bloated.
I have 2 problems:
1) I have got windows-7 64 bit.
2) I am using some camera MicroUSB to USB cable.
I can see my Phone in the "My Computer", but the Windows Mobile Device Center does not recognize the device. Is this because I am not using the cable that came in the box?
Has anyone used windows 7/vista 64 bit to flash and update ROM?
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

My primary box is Win 7 x64 and I've had no trouble with ROM flashing.
How does it show in device manager?
For me, it shows "error" inside the device manager, thats it. But I can access trhough it my computer. Also if I could install the .Net Framework 3.5 from the PC to computer, when I ran the executable, it detected the phone. The device manager doesnt recognize it, and nor does the unlocker..
any ideas??

Plug in the phone. Go in to device manager, right click and uninstall. Check the box about deleting the driver if it shows. Uninstall wmdc. Reboot. Install wmdc. Plug in the phone. Good luck!

Isn't there a special set of drivers that need to be installed under W7 x64? If you can, get a hold of an XP machine.
I install1ed the WMDC 6.1 driver, which also installs the WMDC. After the installation, I can see 2 entries in the add/remove programs, one for driver and one for software, so I guess thats not the problem.
I wish I had a XP machine..!

I KNOW this works, I flash a couple times a week (ORD, you know )
Looked at the screenie - it shouldn't say htc sync. I assume, at some point, you loaded the htc sync software?
I attached a screenie of my wmdc about. does it match yours? wish I had my winmo vogue here today...
Wow.you are lucky it works..! I am stuck with this..real bad!
I checked, its the exact same version number of WMDC, and the device ID is different..
Also, I never installed any HTC software..I dont even know that HTC sync exists..!
any more suggestions..??
Also when I install the WMDC, it alsways says "device not plugged in" while installing the driver, and driver install failed. This happens even when the device is plugged in..
Thanks for your help!

Major USB Debugging issue - Windows 7

I'm trying to set up ADB on a Windows 7 PC as I prefer it over using my old XP PC. However, whenever my phone is connected with USB Debugging enabled the whole PC freezes. The only was to reverse it is to switch the computer off by the mains and back on again.
Anyone else experienced this? I can use HTC Sync though! I'm using Blayo's ROM in case that matters.
thats sounds like your pc problem. i'm using win 7 ultimate and pro without problem. i've not tested on a 64bit system tho...
had the same problem..
now everything is ok.. i think it was some app.. killd every app on the nexus s after that windows is running now 2h before it freezes every ~10min.
reason? maybe some app send to much/strange data over the USB port?
(i also enabled and disabled the ADB Interface driver in Device manager, but i think this was not the solution...)
EDIT: Thought had the solution, but it was just coincidence that win7 didn't crash... still have the same problem
Another thing you could try when these things happen is to reinstall the usb ports/drivers. Do this by going to Device Manager, right clicking on all the "USB Root Hub" and select uninstall. Once you've done that for all of them, reboot the pc and Windows will find and install them again.
Also check your firewall/AV isn't blocking anything.
Win7Pro x64 works fine 4me (installed the full 3.0 devkit)

Desire HD seen as 'UNKNOWN DEVICE' in Windows 7

Hello Everyone,
Unfortunately, in Windows 7 (32bit) the phone shows up as 'UNKNOWN DEVICE' in device manager. I have HTC Sync installed, Android SDK with USB drivers, I even hacked the inf file to add the hardware id of the Desire HD with no luck. Does anyone know if the hardware id on the Telus Desire HD is different than USB\VID_0BB4&PID_0CA2&MI_01?? I also flashed back to the original rom in case something got screwed up but no luck. Any help would be appreciated as I'm desperate.
Thanks in advance.
UPDATE:
Exchanged it at Telus and new one works fine on stock rom. As soon as I upgrade to CM7 I lose USB connectivity again.
I have removed HTC sync and only Android SDK with USB drivers, Device manager show "Android USB Device" and sub menu "My HTC"
hi.. i had a similar problem with my windows 7 pro (64 bit).. have you tried disabling "fast boot" and "usb debugging" enabled then restarting the phone?.. this is the only way i could get my windows to see the phone on the first install.. good luck and let us know how you get on.

I'm pretty sure I have tried that, but then again I have done so many things it's hard to confirm. I'll try that again to make sure and let everyone know.

Install the driver first.

Tried all suggestions listed repeatedly with no success. It doesn't even mount the sdcard in Windows or MAC OSX. My Dell Streak will at least mount the sdcard with no drivers installed.
Try with another computer, and select disk drive. It should not require any additional drivers, the phone is a plug & play device.

This is happening on my desktop and laptop.
Then there is something wrong with your phone. Are you using a custom ROM?

No, it's the original rom. The reason I want to connect it is that I 'want' to install a custom rom. Problem is the computer never recognizes the phone.
Anyone have any other suggestions, I'm desperate. Looking into getting it warrantied through Telus but but want to send it in if I don't have to. Don't want to wait who knows how long to get it back.

[Q] Does anyone else have issues with RSD?

I can not get RSD to work on ANY of my machines.....
I have tried on Win7 (32 and 64 Bit) and Windows XP. The only way I have been able to flash is through Ubuntu.
The issue is that now I want to update the radio and that does not work the ubuntu way.
Just wondering if it is me only or if others have the same issue.
I believe I have the correct drivers installed and am running RSD 5.0 but nothing. RSD Recognizes the phone, but when it tries to transfer the files it fails!
NOW, my phone seems to be bricked as it started to transfer the files (Once) and then failed. Now states that there is no radio.
Any help will be greatly appreciated!!!!!!!

I did a fair amount of mucking about to get it to recognize files, and it sounds crazy but here is how I had most of my success -
...rename the file to have a space in the name... I can't think of any logical reason why this would make it work better but everytime I put my files in base of C:\ as suggested by most people I got about 30% success rate
but If i made sure I had full access to all users on the file, and it was called say 'update 1.sbf' I could ALWAYS apply it.

Try a different version of RSD. Google your problem/error message. It's a common error.
your problem (at least in win 7) might be caused by UAC.. try navigating to the installation folder ex: c:\program files\motorola\rsd lite\.. right-click on the executable file (SDL.exe), click run as administrator, then try to flash
I have been using Win7 x64 on two different PCs, and flashed dozens of times with no issues. Have you tried a different cable or USB port? You can check in device manager to see if you have a missing or bad driver, but it sounds like something else. Try reinstalling RSD or using a different version.
I found my problem being RSD wouldn't read from a directory with a space in it (users/first last). I moved the files to c:\ and it worked fine.

I'm using 4.9 and my issue is getting it to recognize my phone. I've tried so many different things and nothing seems to be working.
I was also trying to flash the radio.
I had problems with Vista 64. RSD Lite 5.0 wouldn't even detect the sbf, let alone the phone. I tried running it elevated, in compatibility mode, and using dozens of other suggestions (including everything already mentioned in this thread). Simply wouldn't work.
Then I tried it with Windows 7 32-bit, after installing MotoHelper and it seemed to work fine.
What usb setting did you leave your phone on? For me, Windows Media Sync worked well, and it detected the phone right away and had no problems with the radio sbf. I actually went to each usb setting and let it install drivers for all of them just in case, but left it at Windows Media Sync.

I think you have to use version 5 and later for it to work.

I did the same when I first hooked up my phone.. Let it install all the drivers by switching usb modes. Only difference is I flashed in motorola phone portal mode. Sometimes I have to un-check debugging mode then select it again for RSD to recognize it.
Just out of curiosity.. Has anyone got this to work in linux from a virtual windows machine?
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
Okay I'm using 5.0 now, I have all my drivers updated, I've done everything I can think of and It doesn't even recognize a device.
That sucks man! Sounds like a windows problem.. Is this a laptop or desktop? If it's a desktop, use the usb ports ob the back.. Otherwise, my only suggestion is to completely uninstall anything motorola related, download & run ccleaner to get rid of any leftover files, then try again. If that doesn't work, try a different pc or maybe consider re-formatting. You will not have these issues with a fresh install of windows
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
You're probably gonna have to try it on a buddy's XP box. (By far I've seen better results overall on XP)
Unfortunately RSD Lite is just as "Diva-like" as Samsung Kies.
Sometimes it has a conflict with a firewall, and other times it has a conflict for no reason at all...
