i cant believe thatit doesn't auto update an add a little notice anywhere is it just me or is this £495 phone not pulling its weight, starting to think about selling this and getting an iPhone or going back to my 8900 have I set everything up correctly? why use is it if it doesn't notify you of anything

It might just be me but that seems to be quite a vague statement...what doesn't it update that's upsetting you? I found this:

earlier today and its got a nice feature which will automatically update any apps that you've installed...how cool is that? (I do hate calling progs "apps"...its so apple dont you think?)
Wel on some hand I can agree .. But did you know you can tusrm notifications on and off, quite easy actually.
In sence env go to SETTINGS > Display Notifications sounds.
And there you should find it.
And sorry for the name of the menu. I got the dutch version over here.
And please explain more about the auto update. What exactly is it that you want to "autoupdate"

why update automatically and update everything,,, instead of what you want to update

Can you come back with a more concise statement of what your problems are please? If its what I think it is there are tons of threads on here about that AND solutions which you can easily search for.
However let's start at the beginning and get our heads round what your problems are.

i just want things like facebook and twitter to update automaticly without me having to get an email first...
on my bb 8900 i would have an icon at the top stating facebook 1,2,3 etc
this phone seems to only notify me of sms,email? no app like facebook or twitter interaction at all??? and my facebook is ment to update every 2 hours, (cant seem to change this )
Your signature bemoans the price the HD2 cost you - but you dislike it because it's default settings limit data connection use, persumably to cut costs?
To your issue, I don't know what facebook app was running on your blackberry but if it's that important to you why not add an rss feed with your facebook updates or open a gmail account that's mailed whenever something happens on facebook and setting it as an exchange "push mail" account?
And that's before the obvious suggestion of googling for an appropriate application O_O
I hope I'm not too reproachful. My point is that Windows Mobile is more like a desktop os than it is like whatever blackberry uses or osX mobile. Solving your "issues" shouldn't take more than half an hour's browsing in the HD2 Themes and Applications forum.
you don't have the twitter tab? and the intergrated facebook? not that its working in all aspects but still I like it..! The standalone facebook application works. The phone also notifies me for twitter and facebook messages..
go to settings in htc sense then choose the data option (says set up sync schdules or similar under the heading) then click on facebook or twitter and set up sync settings to automatic.
they will both now update at the intervals you set.
twitter is available in sense via it's tab and facebook inegrates itself with your contacts in the people tab in sense by pairing your contacts on your device with the contacts of matching names from your facebook. names have to be the same to auto integrate otherwise you have to manually select which contacts to add to which facebook friend.

All the above, plus make sure you don't use any form of 'Auto-disconnect' program to turn your data connection off, or all 'pushed' updates like FB and Twitter will fail till the next time a polled update occurs.

I got Twitter setup for every 30 min but Facebook is at 2 hours an I'm unable to change?

I don't use that- have you got any settings for data disconnect active? If so, it might be worth disabling any auto-disconnect
As far as I know Twitter and FB do not notify you of anything?!
Only emails, SMS, Missed Calls, etc... get a notification.

Twitter has notifications. Facebook does not, unless you install the facebook instant messenger application from this site.

I was about to ask the exact same thing about Facebook, because mine doesnt either, and I have been playing with this phone for long enough to not have missed it!
Hi guys, first post here but been around a bit on the forum
Basically whenever i connect my contacts to their facebook profile everything syncs up fine EXCEPT their profile pictures, i'm not sure what caused it but if the contact was added recently on facebook it just cant seem to load the picture for it .
Anyway I was just wondering if anyone had any advice on my problem or had suffered something similar.

Make sure you are on a wi-fi network and allow time for the picture to be downloaded..If it doesn't appear, edit the contact and select the facebook picture..
Nevermind i solved the problem now it was to do with how i was connecting, i had to connect via 3G to access facebook and wifi to access twitter.
Hey but it works pretty well for me with Wi-Fi too....jus needs time to download the picture.....all you have to do as the prev post said.....iv personally tried and tested it

this has always worked for me but now all of a sudden the pictures are not loading. When I synch with facebook I see the pictures on everybody when I can select what contacts to synch. (I have all boxes checked) but after accepting no pictures are synched. Everything else is synched...
Hi guys, sorry to bring up an old post but I think it's the same issue I'm now having.
I was able to view all the FB profile pictures until recently. They're all set to FB profile picture but I get the person outline instead of their picture.
Even my own "Me" contact card won't show my profile picture, it's annoying that it did work but now it doesn't!
Any ideas? Status' are updating. I signed out then back into FB. I didn't have to connect via wifi before when it worked. When I go to Settings>Data services>Facebook, I'm logged in but the icon is grey, maybe it always but <i>thought</i> it used to be blue.

Totally was having the same issue up until about 5 minutes ago, found the way to fix it! It has to do with your actual Facebook account and not the phone. You have to change your Facebook account to DISABLE the secure browsing (https). once you do that, relog into Facebook on your HTC Sense and reload the profile pictures!!
You my friend are a hero, that fixed it for me too! So now I have a bright colourful address book again, yay!

After enabling secure browsing on FB, my phone didnt sync aswell. Took me ages to find out.
So, I'm still having the same problem. How exactly do I turn off the secure browsing on my browser?
I had the picture sync problem on ICS. I use HaxSync now. Works very well!

You do not need turn off the secure browsing on your browser, you need open your FB account with your browser ( IE, Chrome, Mozila), then select the arrow at the top right (next HOME button), and choose from there Account settings. In newly opened window of FB choose Security. Now you can see on the first row your
secure browsing - edit it!
Pay attention: You need DISABLE it (uncheck) !!!!!!!!!!....if you want syncing FB contacts with HTC contacts
Hey Ive upgraded from the mytouch fender edition to the 4g today and when I synced my gmail and facebook account to the phone, only some of my contacts pictures are showing. The other contacts remain blank with no news feed and no pictures even though I have them on my friends stream. I've tried going into setting and re-syncing it and nothing happens. I go into the contacts and on "view" mode I check facebook also and it has multiple name for contacts that i already have on my phone. Does anyone know how I can link my contacts to facebook?
The contacts that did sync, are they contacts on your phone as well?

The only one I know of is in the settings menu of Facebook. It allows you to sync all friends to contact list, sync current contacts, or no sync. Unless you're trying to sync your contacts to be on your friends list. You have to be fb friends first. I may just be misreading that part, though.

I dont see a setttings on facebook like i saw on the mytouch 3g, i think its because the 4g is running on senseUI and has the friends stream instead and lol yeah you misread that part.

K, thought I was. In the fb app, where it shows news feed, profile, friends, all of that, mash menu. Settings is there.

yeah I was on there and the sync button isn't there, i think its something to do with the sense UI and i think i need to somehow sync via the friends stream

Hey everyone, new (noob) here! I am also having the same problem, although my syncing issues did not surface until after I rooted my phone. I don't know if the sync problem is related though. The phone recognizes my contacts as FB contacts but doesn't sync pics or wall updates... any help is appreciated TIA!
I found out you have to use the friends stream and wait until you get the notification to link contacts that it suggests
For some reason my friends stream has recently stopped working. I hit refresh and it looks like it is going to look for updates to facebook but returns with nothing. Any ideas? I searched on the forum but couldn't find anything.
I had this problem too, if you go into the Friend Stream settings, remove your facebook account and then set it up again you should be good to go

Just got the S4 yesterday and theres a few things I cant get working/understand!
Firstly, when streaming video, from sources such as youtube or ted, it doesnt stream in full HD, it almost looks like standard definition. (this is streaming via wifi, not mobile data, i have also checked to make sure it is actually trying to stream HD)
Secondly is the email app, it is only showing me old emails from years ago? It only seems to have an "older" folder and isnt showing any new mail at all.
Could anyone help me out?

Have no idea what causes these gltiches for you, do you have the latest firmware installed and updated your apps in Google Play?
I`am streaming Youtube video`s on wifi in in full HD (1080p), have you checked the highest quality in the Youtube setttings
The email app shows the latest emails to me.

Yea i installed the latest youtube, also tried just streaming it from the web browser but made no difference. At first I had compared the steam to my old phone, and my old phone looked much much better, which was very confusing given the s4's display reputation. But ive put some hd videos on the phone manually and the picture is amazing. Its just streaming services which are poor.
I have also updated the handset, there was a 600mb update as soon as i turned it on.
The email is really bizarre, and very annoying. I know I could get a third party email client from the play store, but theres enough apps/bloatware already on the phone so i'd like to use the in built email app!

Stock email works fine. Just change the setting of sync emails for 3 days only. Then wait for some time (Give it time to sync.) It will sync emails.
BTW you mean email for exchange or something? not gmail?

Yes, indeed the syncing of gmail mails was a pain at first on my S4. But there is an app in the google play store called "push notification fixer" That allows your emails to be pushed to your phone in an orderly manner on delivery. Hope this fixes your issue with the email syncing

Made a mistake in my last post, it is actually only gmail which isnt working properly. My hotmail account is working fine.
