CM7 Release Candidate - myTouch 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi All,
Any idea when we'll move from beta to RC for CM7?

not sure but I believe they don't like it when people ask for eta's. I would guess that it'll be when more devs start working more on the phone.

The devs always stress that the first rule is never to ask for ETAs like the previous poster stated. I'm kind of new to this, but maybe you could look at how many nightly builds there were of other phones before they reached the release candidate stage. Just a suggestion.

Previous nightlife don't really have much to do with it, especially because there will continue to be nightlies even after stable releases come out.
If there were a member of teamdouche replying to this thread, then the answer would most likely be "When its ready". That's always the answer.

As the previous three guys said they don't like it when we ask, it even says so in the widget we get when we first flash their rom.

I'll add that the nightlies are pretty damn stable, so dont worry about an rc yet. But you're never gonna get an eta from teamdouche.

Got the message regarding the "don't ask don't tell policy" I'll keep lurking the dev section.
Imagine the poop storm if I'd have posted this in the dev section!

Haha yeah for real "poop storm"

[Q] Anyone Developing ??

Simple question....does anyone know if there are any people out there that are really developing stuff for this awesome phone.....sucks that we get not feed back on mod and stuff....best T-Mobile phone out and no one is even paying attention to it.....smh.....Cyanogenmod would be awesome

devs have to have the phone in order to make things for it. I believe 2 people have it so far and are working on it.
The phones been out maybe a month, have patience
There are 4 roms in development thread, OC/UV kernel.... what else do you need?
This belongs in Q&A section, not development.
Yes... We have a oc/uv kernel. several roms. several developers.
Other known developers should be getting their phones soon.

That's where the thread should have ended. I mean, the question was posted in a forum where several threads for ROMs are...same page even, just a couple threads down.
There is soooo much you can learn by taking just 15 mins and browsing the forums for the MT4G.
you
you are developing
What a disrespectful post.

I meant the OP. But yeah, I remember waiting months with other phones just for a simple Android update.
Yes your right there are 4 ROM's to bad they are all mostly the same with a few different tweaks, just look at other phones that devs have completely different types of ROM's....and its not a disrespectful post because all I hear is about great devs working hard on ROM's for other phones yet I don't really hear much about them working on the mt4g, not saying they are not but its nice to hear that someone is working on something....why must you guys ***** about something so simple for no reason....sheeesh
And thanks to those with a simple answer..since that was all that was needed
You are the one making a stupid post. You have a question and then you answer your own question by saying there is no one "paying attention" to it. What other phone that has been out as long as the myTouch 4g has so many "completely different" type of Roms? Most Roms tend to be built off a few main sources with tweaks like you said, the super popular Moto Droid has about 4 of those tops.
Oh my God...listen no one forced you to read this post...get off your damn high horse...this a q&a thread....not a question then ***** about it thread....if you have no answer move on to the next post....the dudes from earlier answered my question perfectly also found out zinx got the mytouch4g thanks to that post...stop being useless or keep it moving..
Also I got high hopes for zinx...dude does wonders

zinx is taking over as the CM retainer for the MT4G since kmobs unfortunately had issues with UPS and such. once a phone has a CM rom, so many others make a CM based rom. So be patient and in due time there will be a slough of roms for this awesome phone

There is a thread in general for the nightlies, thanks for the good intention but, people is going to flame you most likely and cm only updates his thread when there is RC for CM

Not sure why it would be in general considering this is highly development and I might add HIGHLY functional. It is a great ROM. But I wanted it in here because there isnt an EVO specific thread on it. I also figured it important to get the google apps link in there because that is not even easy to find from the cyanogen site itself.
People can flame all they want, I dont care. For each flamer, there are probably 10 others of whom it helped.
I edited my post as I didn't realise there was a nightly for CM7 in general. I just rarely look in general.

How is the thread not evo specific when it is in the evo general forum? Way to waste space.

I created one right after CM6 nightlies started back in July.

I certainly agree that it isn't going to be super noticeable since it is not in the dev section. I spend a lot of time maintaining the OP to consistently provide useful and relatively up to date info, since it is frustrating to not be able to find that stuff. Cyanogen (and occasionally other devs) check in to that nightly thread or the official thread in dev once in a while to see about any issues.
Cyanogen won't create a thread in dev unless he has a "stable" (RC or full) release, and I think the (very) rough moderation policy is that any thread in dev needs to be created by the developer. I created it in dev, and after a few days it was moved to Q&A. It was there for months and then suddenly moved to General. I'm not complaining, the mods here have a ton of work to keep stuff clean. And to their credit, there is a more official thread at the CM forums for the nightlies.

It is in the Evo -> General section, so it is Evo specific. The top of the op has a set of links for nightlies, gapps, etc. They are not in a formatted block so they show up properly on the Tapatalk/XDA app.
Someone else created another one around the time the CM7 builds started spinning.
Hope I don't come across like a dickhead that thinks my thread is more important that this one, I just want to provide what I can to be helpful, and prevent some of the duplicate effort we get.

Hello and thanks to all

As you can see I have been a member since early summer last year. I have 0 posts, merely because I have not once needed to post for help, or questions. I guess I am here to officially say hello and thank you to everybody. Before froyo, I started out with a stock 1.5 from sprint and updated to a leaked 2.1 FW and rooted the correct way, with command prompt and ADB. Flashed Flipz' fresh 2.0d on up to 2.4.0 was really happy with a custom 2.1 sense rom. Then I finally started to look into CM6 soon after the 2.4 incremental Flipz released. Lets just say I fell in love CM and have not had any problems. Everybody on the hero and eris (buddy as one) forums have helped me a lot. You guys are great and again thank you so much for turning a crap phone into a fun, fast performing, stable phone.
i know what do you mean....everybody here is so helpful...great community

+1 to that... very few do that.

I'll throw in a thanks too. Just obtained the hero about a week ago. Started from 2.1 to the CM6.1 first only to find out camera among other things were not working properly. Then in reading a discussion on CM7 nightlies for the hero and how they were nonexistent at this time, someone mention the aospmod and XDA. Was easily able to get that working on my hero also with a few other mods.
Love the community so far and the great support for the Hero! I plan on having this phone for a good long while seeing as 4g is not available anywhere in my state from Sprint.
Keep up the good work guys!
Hell yeah! We're happy to have you guys here.

edit: I suppose I should contribute; I've used nightlies before. Pretty much once we actually go official, it will make it so you download the updates through the cyanogenmod official site and just get small new features, problems, and fixes whenever there are updates. Probably little things like sensors, call volume, torch, etc will be fixed eventually.

CM7 is great, and works fantastically on my phone. I just really wish a Dev would acknowledge the crazy issues this phone has when on CM7 AND in a lot signal area. I thought my phone was broke until somebody posted in the CM7 Alpha thread the other day.
I also wish somebody could shed light on any and all files in the filesystem that we might be able to tweak our own volume level if at all possible, without having to go through DSP manager or something like that.
Still...here's hoping they crank out some sweet stuff.
I'm not aiming to complain in any way, but why hasn't there been a nightly build yet from cyanogen? I assumed that after jt had merged in the code, we'd be running from there.
Trust me, i'm very patient and i'll happily wait as long as it takes. Just curious as to what cyanogen and jt need to do before they start the nightlies.

I don't think you're alone in your thinking. I heard some phones in the past have been adopted but never actually got nightlies. I think we are just a skeptical community due to Samsung's treatment. On the upside, things are happening on a somewhat regular basis in terms of merging.

Thanks for creating this thread I have been wondering exactly what nightlies are. I have heard it described as like "Windows Update". So are most nightlies just patches or new roms where you start from scratch each time?
Again thanks for the thread will be looking forward to learning and waiting for them to start.

From what I understand, "nightlies" are small bug fixes found in the code during the "day". After a full day of compilation, those fixes are affected during the "night". Usually no changlog because a new one will be released every night. Sometimes one step forward and sometimes two steps back, eventually yielding a highly refined rom. However, I'm sure someone else could give a better explanation. Keep checking for "fascinatemtd" at the link below.

The potential as I see it is that there is a thread that isn't 400 posts long that people, like myself, looking at when to dive into the CM world might get some good information.
Not all of us have time to dig through hundreds of posts to make a decision on the ROM/Kernel that we run on the phone that we need on a daily basis.
You don't have to read the thread, or post on it, if you don't think it has "potential".
Headcase, thanks for putting this thread out there.
I myself have been wondering how long the wait will be. I'm sure others have had phones receive official nightlies, so they might be able to provide some insight. Also, I check this forum everyday and when they finally hit, I'd bet others like me will find out here.
Not sure why those who find something unnecessary have to make their opinion known. What are you gaining by posting then? Your posts serve no purpose other than to annoy those who actually think this thread can be useful.
Have a nice day.

Jeez, chill out people. I already posted what I know about nightlies as the very first reply to this thread, then watched people post the same thing as me afterwards until everybody got mad at each other for stating opinions. Try porting first. Download a ROM from the desire section, use a base ROM, and delete certain. Google "xda developers porting sense guide" if you want to port sense (its much harder!). AOSP is the way to go for beginners.

I don't know, like I said earlier, I'm no developer, so I can't really tell which information is valuable, but there are my guesses.

The first thing you need to do is read. read read read. read as much as you can. go to the general section of xda, they have many different guides there to help (i'm not telling you to read all of them btw ).
Next: Google is your best friend. if you are unsure about something, Google it. chances are, someone has had the problem you have before. searching around can save you major headaches in the long run.
One must also have patience. if you don't have patience, please don't try developing lol. it takes time to learn, and it takes time to develop. don't expect development to be done overnight.
The last thing you need to do is decide. make the decision. do you really want to do this? do you really want to possibly stay up late at night trying to fix an issue that you just can't for the life of you figure out? Developing isn't easy work, it's not cake. it takes a strong heart to develop. things will go wrong, it may take days or even months to get one small thing working, and it's your decision if you want to continue on.
And always remember, you're doing this because you enjoy it, not because you expect that you're going to get anything out of it.
i hope i have helped you, if you need me, you are also free to shoot me a PM as well.
