[Actual CM7 Nightlies] [Not molested] [The Source] - EVO 4G General

This is the link to the latest Gingerbread Google APPS for the nightlies:
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=Latest_Version/Google_Apps

There is a thread in general for the nightlies, thanks for the good intention but, people is going to flame you most likely and cm only updates his thread when there is RC for CM

Not sure why it would be in general considering this is highly development and I might add HIGHLY functional. It is a great ROM. But I wanted it in here because there isnt an EVO specific thread on it. I also figured it important to get the google apps link in there because that is not even easy to find from the cyanogen site itself.
People can flame all they want, I dont care. For each flamer, there are probably 10 others of whom it helped.

I edited my post as I didn't realise there was a nightly for CM7 in general. I just rarely look in general.

How is the thread not evo specific when it is in the evo general forum? Way to waste space.

I created one right after CM6 nightlies started back in July.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=729802
I certainly agree that it isn't going to be super noticeable since it is not in the dev section. I spend a lot of time maintaining the OP to consistently provide useful and relatively up to date info, since it is frustrating to not be able to find that stuff. Cyanogen (and occasionally other devs) check in to that nightly thread or the official thread in dev once in a while to see about any issues.
Cyanogen won't create a thread in dev unless he has a "stable" (RC or full) release, and I think the (very) rough moderation policy is that any thread in dev needs to be created by the developer. I created it in dev, and after a few days it was moved to Q&A. It was there for months and then suddenly moved to General. I'm not complaining, the mods here have a ton of work to keep stuff clean. And to their credit, there is a more official thread at the CM forums for the nightlies.

It is in the Evo -> General section, so it is Evo specific. The top of the op has a set of links for nightlies, gapps, etc. They are not in a formatted block so they show up properly on the Tapatalk/XDA app.
Someone else created another one around the time the CM7 builds started spinning.
Hope I don't come across like a dickhead that thinks my thread is more important that this one, I just want to provide what I can to be helpful, and prevent some of the duplicate effort we get.

Amen brother. Unless you have an apk of this, and it might help development with android 2(Link to developing Google apps because of sync api commands in maps app? I don't know.) What I'm trying to say is...don't make a new thread if it has NOTHING TO TO WITH DEVELOPMENT. Thanks.
Seriously. DEV or GTFO.
I kind of disagree; I think this is important for the development section:
It could inspire developers to work a way into porting android 2.0 to G1. It may inspire some genius into converting the g1 into a multi OS system that can switch between a GPS NAV and a Phone, in a simple way “switch Rom”. I left it open without a comment because I rather for everyone to use his imagination and transform this into development!!!

I’m aware of that and the problems associated with porting 2.0, but I also believe in the XDA development Team. I would like to remind everyone where we have been and where are we now in terms of android, just imagine flashing back to stock RC 28 .
Just a note to OP, any dev that would even conjure doing this would more than likely look @ android.com or other android related sites with news and other articles just like you linked for us, granted you were trying to share what you have learned, it is completely irrelevant to this forum. Gladly take this thread to a "general"disscussion. Besides its still early look @ 2.0 and will be a bit before we see progress, and was hoping this thread meant somone was porting already, yet, to my dismay another off topic discussion that let my hopes fall to the bottomless pit of irony.

Actually its people like you that post immature retorts that makes members not want to be here anymore. Android 2.0 is DEV!

DEVs - You've been called upon to remove an app!

This is quoted from the developer of SetCPU and his thread:
ROM developers: I became aware of a number of devs who are now bundling this version of SetCPU with ROMs. For now, do not include SetCPU with your ROM. If it is in your ROM, please remove it. I'm probably going to find out a solution to this but barely anyone is giving (enough) credit or mentioning that it's also in the Market, and on top of that, they are putting their own donate links in there (the worst offenders do not give credit at all). Most devs are putting the APK in /system/app making purchasing (donating!) and upgrading SetCPU difficult, and rendering the one time donate link useless. That's a kick in the face to me. No dev has bothered to ask me for permission. It's really irritating me - SetCPU has been a huge effort, it's older than most of your ROMs (look at the date of this topic, look at how many times it's been updated - this isn't even the full changelog), and I would like people to at least read this thread.
I appreciate the work you're doing, but link to this thread instead. It is free here.
Here is the original thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=505419
I posted this a couple weeks ago.
well I believe you should post this through the entire site as many of the dev’s have moved on to other phones I did read the notice about 3 weeks ago, it was posted, Hopefully others will follow your request even if they are just upgrading an existing rom or a new one from scratch.
Yeah, this is a very good app. .. I had no promblem getting the paid version after useing it compared to the overclock widget
Thread moved to General.
I removed from my rom before it came out of testing phase. I actually prefer overclock widget but that's a different convo

Unless this is a PAID APP there is no reason anyone can't use it any way they see fit. This is an open source community, which means there are no requirements to give credit, that is a courtesy. I agree that they should you give you credit, but you have no right to say they can't use it.

If u look in the market it is a paid app. On xda he gives it out for free but respectfully asks that since its a paid app he shares here for free then he would like people to be directed to his page to get it. Makes sense to me. There is a lot of info on his page and u find out who made it and how to use it.
First off, this is another bad call by mods toi move this to a general section when out of respect for the developer of the app, it was posted in he development section since it is directly affecting ROMs that are being made.
I agree it should be sitewide but that's not my business.
In response to you, chfields, I really hope you're not directing that response to me personally. I am not the one who made the original post. I made this post so the guys here who make ROMs can respect a man's wishes. Simple as that.
cbarlan: you're absolutely correct. Devs here, as well as anywhere else, should be respectful enough to post a guide on how to use it or whatever, or at least post a simple link and not include the application, per the app dev's request.
Guys, it's a respect issue mainly. I aint stirring the **** pot, aint trying to make anyone upset, and I don't think this information will get the proper attention it deserves being shoved off into a non-related sub-forum when this information directly affects the development of any ROMs that use this app.

[SUPPORT] Discussion Thread for Designgears' Gingerbread and CM7 alpha flashable zips

Hey guys I've noticed that a lot of people are reporting bugs and asking for help in Designgears' "[Tech Demo] Gingerbread for Captivate Build-4 (experimental) | CyanogenMod 7 Alpha 2" thread, which is something that he's requested not to happen. Just figured I'd start a user discussion thread so people can post bugs/issues and hopefully get support for it.

The thread doesn't necessarily pertain exclusively to the update.zips, but rather to the work being done on Gingerbread and CM7 as a whole. I understand that designgears just packaged the work done by supercurio and others into an update.zip, but that in itself is valuable, as it is easier for the people who have trouble doing all the adb commands and such. On top of that, support offered here is still relevant to people who have installed it via supercurio's method. Having this thread here makes it easier for everybody who has installed Gingerbread or CM7 on their Captivate to get help with either of these two projects.
P.S. I'm sorry, I understand that this thread probably belongs in General, so mods please feel free to move it if you see fit
Its not my position to say what belongs where but I'm glad to have this thread. I would still be running gb but had a cpl issues. My phone wouldn't go into landscape mode for one and youtube videos I was only getting sound no video.
Maybe issues everyone is having maybe not. Can't wait until it's done but I will keep trying each build. Thanks for the thread and happy holidays to all.

Designgears IS NOT working on the bugs. Read his posts. Supercurio and some others are. I'm sure they know the bugs. They also read these forums. Just let them work out the kinks. They'll get there. Or you could always code it yourself
Anyway, I hope to see a stable release soon!

Dear DEVS / Thread Maintainers

I would like to request that you have all of your thread titles standardized if you are offering a ROM.
A good template would be:
[ROM](ANDROID_VERSION)-(UPDATED_LAST) Name (Version number etc)
ex:
[ROM](2.3.3)-(03/31/2011) CyanogenMod 7 for Vibrant.
&
[ROM](2.2)-(04/03/2011) Trigger v2.9.2 / EDT
or something to this affect. it's confusing looking around with all of the rom version numbers being mistaken for android version numbers. Also, it's nice to see when something was updated without having to see the entire thread.
It's already pretty much like this..
there are only 2 2.2 roms, Trigger & Bionix
there is 1 gingerbread rom (cm7)
and there are 9999999 2.2.1 ROMs
dates are almost always in the topic title anyways...
that's just being nitpicky.. speaking of which, this is posted in the wrong section.
ironically, you just posted an extra thread that contraindicates your cleanup suggestion.

Posted it where it would be read by the correct people. Less cleanup, more organisation of ROMs.
To other responder, two things: you're wrong (i.e. there are two Gingerbread ROMs for the Vibrant: CM7, MIUI), and even if that were true, not everybody knows which ROM is which all of the time. This would make things easier for users who don't view the forum every day and don't keep up with every ROM.

[JT1134][ROM] IceCreamSandwich AlphaLulz v3 [11/28]

Since a lot of people don't seem to know that JT1134 has released a version of Android 4 ICS on RootzWiki (since he didn't create a thread here) I figured I'd create one with a link and try to keep it updated when a new version comes out.
This is daily driver quality already. Only issues are: Outbound MMS is non-functional, Video recording is non-functional.
Go here:
jt1134 refuses to post his work on XDA due to a long-running dispute over the flaming that goes on here (ironically his ICS thread over on Rootzwiki is full of what chopper the dog calls "noobsause"). In any case, if he refuses to post his work here, how do you think he'd feel about someone else doing so? I don't mean any harm, because I'm sure you didn't know about this and you're just trying to be helpful, but in the future, you'll profit from asking the dev first if he'll let you post his work here.
Has anyone seen John Connor?

I really despise people like you and that djk halfwit over on Rootzwiki. You think because a developer shares his work that it's all fair game and no big whoop and people are too serious.
I would sincerely like to see you try picking up the code and doing something for the phone, having it leaked without your permission, and then still say it's all good.

It's common practice in the Android community (and all other communities) for people to post links to other forums.

The OP didn't post Jt's work. He posted a link to Jt's thread. Big difference.
Come on everyone. No need to be fighting with one another over a link to a thread at another site. Nitsuj and Gizmo are right. Gfosco didn't post a download link for the ROM. What gfosco did is no different than someone asking "hey I heard jt made an ics rom for the fascinate but I don't see it here" and gfosco replied, "It's over at rootzwiki." There may be fascinate users who do not stray away from XDA much and gfosco is simply doing the community a service by making everyone aware of the ROM and where to find it. Thumbs up gfosco (just remember, the link isn't ROM development so this thread should have gone in general )
Not be repetitive or continue this BS thread, but there already *is* a thread in General for jt's ICS...
It's more like someone asking "where's jt's thread" in a completely unrelated *dev* thread when it's already been answered after a dozen other folks made the same request in that same *dev* thread.
Some folks may be a tad over-reactive, but considering what we've already lost at XDA, isn't that *more* forgivable than the folks behind the very reason we've lost so much???

Come on everyone. No need to be fighting with one another over a link to a thread at another site. Nitsuj and Gizmo are right. Gfosco didn't post a download link for the ROM. Looks like some of us are in withdrawal now that there's only one Enyo thread to pounce on for lulz... Mods closing that thread (and probably this one too) in 3... 2...
