Just wanted to say thanks - Droid 2 General

So, I've been a bit of a lurker but, I felt that I should post this. I've had a Droid 2 since August & decided to finally root it. Due to the many amazing guides out there, this process was easy & painless. I just wanted to say thanks to those people:
darkonion's One Click Root
brutalDROID's HOW TO ROOT Droid 2 - IN DEPTH TUTORIAL
pc747's Droid 2 hacking/rom install class
So, thank you again for making this process incredibly easy

You should have put this in the general section, not development. It's good to thank but do it in the correct place. Either the specific forums (thanks button) or in general.

I'm an idiot. I thought I posted this in the General Discussion section That's what I get for having too many tabs open. Is there any way that a mod could move this to the correct section?

Thanks Won't happen again. I really do need to cut down on the amount of tabs that I have open at one time

Do we have mods in this section?

I am just wondering because it seems like stuff that should be stickied (like rooting, deodex, upgrading to froyo) is just being ignored.
I was actually just wondering about the lack of informative stickies earlier today...
As much as I appreciate all the great stuff that has sprouted from XDA over the years, I don't think this forum will get as much attention as others since it's not an HTC phone.
This of course started as an HTC-centric development (read hacking ) forum. I think their growth and popularity kind of forced some off-shoots into other manufacturers, but they are still pretty clearly HTC oriented.
there is a mod for this section, but he seemed to disappear after greeting himself to the public... lol

totally forgot. Read those too! Those are great threads to read before posting up any questions, if you run into any trouble, etc.
One more thing...read and read and read and read. You have an expensive phone...all the info you need is here...but do yourself a favor and read for a few days so you understand what you are doing. That will limit your questions and headaches…
There are very helpful people in theses forums and they are more likely to help you after you have you have tried to help your self.

Congratulations on breaking free. Just one piece of advice in addition to the links others already posted - to make your life on these boards more pleasant, use the search before posting questions. There's a good chance the info is already available.
Thank you .
Im reading all this through the app so kind of.hard to read it all bearly getting used to the phone too thanks tho and I will start reading .

Welcome
Like all ....welcome the above posts have provided links, remember a couple of things, Go slow at first before changing up the phone... get used to the phone. Look at the apps here and on the android market
Look at the development section in the Vibrant forum and read alot of the posting and links about the custom ROMs. The people who made them are superior to the service provider developers.
Once you are comfortable with your background/reference education then, start modifying the phone. You are going to find this is SUCH a good phone to customize, and way user friendly than others I have used in the past. Good luck, and welcome
Welcome +1!
We're here to help as long as the question hasn't been posted 15x10^n times =) Reading is integral to learning more about your phone. Peek into the dev forum but don't post any questions in there unless directly related to a ROM you've flashed (and even then search the thread for your answer [there's a search thread button at the top of the page]).
There are many good people on the forum even when the get short tempered due to "failure to read" syndrome.
Congratulations on a wise purchase, your phone is only going to get better (we've got some great devs ).

too many stickies?

Anyone else thinking there's some use-less stickies here??
General section specifically.
There's the Nero v4 add on's and what-not.
Why not organize them and put them all into 1 sticky like they did on some other sections?
im pretty sure the "understanding samsung's firmware numbers" doesn't need to be stickied, yes it super interesting, but it doesn't need to be stickied.
Half the first page is with stickies....
I agree, we should erase the Nero v4 addons thread, the tmobile whine thread, the thread deletion thread, and the Samsung's version numbers thread.
Kills me too, like half the first page in general is stickies. I wish they could do tabs like how the xda app is set up.

This should be stickied. :-D

Yes way too many.
Only the guides for new users should be stickies in my opinion.
I don't understand why samsungs verision numbers and the gps hardware mod thread are stickies, but whatever.

I'll gladly add links to most of these threads to the General Sticky, I don't want to insult/upset anyone though.
If you search through the nexus one forums (I had before I traded it), nothing except for noob guides and posting guidelines are stickied.
Samsung Version Numbers?: This is XDA!
Tmobile whine threads: We got froyo already.
GPS hardware fix: use the search bar
Why threads are deleted: again how to post thread
Nero v4 addons: themes and apps and search bar, and Nero v4 is outdated
Why not make 1 thread called STICKIES and put all of these in there?
As someone who TRIES to keep his sticky updated, I would hate to have to go to a stick thread, click a link and then edit mine because the General Sticky (mine) would go to the bottom since it's not posted in too much.
Good idea, but I would not prefer that personally.
I offered to link to some of these, but until a mod tells me their going to be un-stickied, no real point. And again, I am not trying to insult/annoy someone.
Ugh god the stickies truly are annoying, especially when you are using the browser on your phone to visit xda and half the first page is all stickies.
why the heck are samsung version numbers posted as a sticky?

half the first page in general is 15 (total= 30) thread; stickies is 8 thread's.
But, I promise, with your help and this thread, reshape not only generally, but the developers section.
First, I'll edit my thread sticked to:
This section's main thread!
And I'll put the link of the thread's that are sticky
Amended ....
please put your suggestion here of threads and formatting of this topic:
Main discussion lists in the General section
Removed other sticky threads!
While I appreciate and agree there were too many stickies, I am a bit upset that mine is now in a link nobody is going to click on....
Perhaps there are not many new people who need my general sticky, but I know if there are, they certainly are going to have a harder time finding it.
thank you. great idea and execution.

Any suggestions to change the title of the thread with the list?
rename: **Vibrant General - Sticky Roll-Up thread**

I think you will get a lot of different answers. My thought are this is more or less plain for noobs. My idea is **Vibrant-General - How to and Info- Sticky Thead**
What ever you do or what you call it I think is a good idea Will you be doing this with the other sections as well aka Development,Themes etc?

"PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING - STICKY THREADS"
Also, can you edit the names (your links) and change the order? I mean should the GPS hardware fix really be the first thing people see?
Still disagree, but hey whatever makes the most happy. Would prefer a lof of the "stickies" NOT be stickies... and not have the others lumped into one.

Do u think you could put the guides thread back as sticky? That thread is the most informative and useful in all of vibrant section, and has helped many newbies me included.

Hello, I am your new mod!

Hello people, I am ashasaur or Christian, whichever you prefer, and I am your new moderator. I've been at XDA for many years, and I hope to be of some help to you all. Over the next few days I am going to be cleaning and consolidating these forums a little bit to get rid of some of the clutter. If there are some of you around here that have been in the Fascinate forums for some time and would like to offer me some assistance, please feel free to do so. Likewise, if any of you have any questions or concerns, do not hesitate to inform me!
Glad to have you!
Welcome!

I don't mean to be rude or anything... im very glad to finally have a mod here.
But i was wondering, why do they give moderator-ship to you in a forum for a phone you don't even have?
(Please don't read this wrong i don't mean disrespect in any way.)
Great to have you.
Yeah, it would be nice if the devs would put dates on there updates. Some of the devs have started doing this already but not all.
Also it would be nice if the telus fascinate got its own forum. I've seen more than one person try to put their roms and kernels on a verizon fascinate without knowing there was a difference.
Blackhole 4.2 on EB01 Froyo.
anyway to make it a more friendly place. there are some real jerks posting around here. i mean i understand the frustration that comes from seeing 600 wheres froyo threads or 67 i cant get bln to work on sc 2.7. i have even made a few redu coments myself. but i was also new once too. it would just be nice if the forum could turn the jerky down some. just mho.

Moderating isn't so much about having the device in the forum you are moderating, as it is...well...moderating. I don't own an HTC Rose either, and I have been mod there for around 8 months. I am well versed in the Galaxy S family as 3 of my family members own various ones, including a Fascinate, and I personally run Android on my HD2. No offense taken as it is a valid question.

I am noticing that the releases here don't have dates in their titles, and that is something that needs to be fixed. I am on it like white on rice I tell you! It's going to be the new rule that ALL releases must follow the standard XDA naming scheme that we have adopted, or the threads will be renamed by your's truly.
As far as the Telus Fascinate is concerned, I will look into the matter.
Thanks folks.
I know captainkrtek is on to bigger and better things and he will be missed.
Anywho, welcome to the party.
good day.

THIS. Please, we desperately need a seperate Q&A forum. The android development subforum gets spammed all the time by questions...it would be really nice to have.

your on point good sir. Q&A forum please
I see that this is a big request...I have been mod for less than 24 hours, and already I have 5 PMs regarding a Q&A forum, and I will take it to the higher ups and see what they think.
+1,000,000 on a Q&A subforum. We need that more than anything else. It'd not only cut back on clutter but keep people from being "rude" or "jerks" (as someone else had said) when responding because there'd be much less chance of questions ending up in the wrong area--which, as we all know,is a hot-button issue.
In addition to this, people who want to help others by answering questions would have to actually seek out that subforum as opposed to just browsing and coming across one of the vast number of question threads in the general section (and since these people are in the Q&A section willingly they should be in a helping mood already).
Just my two-cents.

Although this was already touched on, allow me to elaborate. While we sometimes appoint Forum Mods in their device.home, that is not always possible. In fact, moderators tend to be most effective when outside their comfort zone, as this allows them to be objective.
Aye, thanks for the explanation!
hi sexy.....
q&a forum please
All right people. In order for a Q&A forum to be added, there has to be more than 10,000 posts in the General forum...so we have a ways to go yet. Rest assured though, I am going to crack down on the questions in the Dev section.

Forum suggestion

So every day it seems we have new threads about rooting instructions or basic issues that seem to get fixed over and over. Would it be better to have a section called 'back to basics' or something to try and group those together and chuck the stickies in there. I know ultimately if everyone just used the search tool there would be no problem. But I just thought it might help to clean up the forums a bit as it feels this forum has doubled in size since the sgs2 was released.
