It's really annoying. About 75% of the time I get on youtube or try downloading something big like a cyanogen update my phone restarts. I've been putting up for it for quite some time now but I'll be depending on my phone next week and this **** needs to stop. It's not the rom since it happens when I install fresh rom (to do prl and all that other sprint crap). I usually cruise with cyanogen (6.1 atm). It happened with mym's warm sumthin rom too. I don't let it overheat... EVER!... I've noticed the stand acts like a heat dissipater so I always keep it open when in use. Also I'm constantly checking to see if it's getting warm. I don't overclock/undervolt it (unless this is a feature added to cyanogen... which to the best of my knowledge isn't... I just skim the changelogs though so I might be wrong)
The phone also restarts when I play need for speed, but I don't really care about that. Would really appreciate help with this one. I'm sure there are other people getting screwed over with this one.

Did it start happening when you updated to the latest radio? I thought I read something about people having freezing or rebooting issues with that radio and cm6, but I could be crazy. I'm almost certain that if you're running a sense rom, it needs to be based off 3.70 to use that radio.. so if the Fresh rom you tried was a little old, you may try the latest. If all else fails, I'd wipe, flash Calk's combo zip with radio/pri/wimax/nv, and then flash a 3.70 based sense rom (I recommend Calk's EViO rom). If problems still persist, it may be a hardware issue.
My phone was doing this with the latest MIUI rom and one of the new gingerbread ROMs that's going around ( I forget which). It only happened once using CM6 nightlies. For me the problem was with the kernel that I was using and my wifi at home. Experiment with some different kernels, that's what I did. The most successful combination is the one that's in my signature, the random reboots ended.
Here's thread dedicated to this problem.
Good luck.

Nah, I've had this problem since 6.0 if i'm not mistaken. I did try flashing calk's combo but it gave me an error. It did it again so got my ass back on the computer to make this post. Right now I have fresh latest. Btw I install using rom manager and clockworks flash image. I used to use amonra but switched to clocks and for some reason my phone wont switch back to amon...

thanks for the link. i'll go read that now :3

There is a thread on here for evo official random reboots. There was a lot of troubleshooting done, but most of us have a Hardware issue. A lot of people got there phones swapped out from sprint.
I picked up my launch day Evo hardware 0003. It always rebooted (even before rooting), but for the last 2 months it got really bad. No matter what I tried (SD card, Formatted SD card, no SD card, CM, Sense, Stock, rooted, unrooted, full wipe with no apps installed), it rebooted.
I purchased at bestbuy with their warranty. I had to deal with bestbuy warranty once already, and didnt want to ship it out and have them not find anything. I went to 3rd party sprint store that did repairs. Showed them the problem and they ordered me a new phone. I had to add Sprint TEP on, which I had no problem doing. I went and cancelled my bestbuy black tie protection.
Have new Evo for a month now, no reboots.
Before the EVO reboots do you notice a fair amount of heat??
Your PRI is the wrong version, just sayin'
Same problem...though i was blaming it on the super battery charge kernels I was using. Found that it is still a problem without the battery mods but less frequent.
It seems to me to happen only when downloading while charging and the screen is off. Also, if I am listening to something at the same time it wont reboot. Lastly, I've caught it a couple of times right before it happened and the phone becomes completely unresponsive.
I'm running with all the latest updates on Azrael's rom.

hi guys, i live in a 4G area but i really dont use 4g since everywhere i go i got internet and i don tether (for now) so i decided to go AOSP and i got the miui rom, but it looks that i dont get 3G only shows 1X i tried cyanogen and still the same, then i went into another ROM (azrael and mikfroyo) and it shows 3G but i get the same crappy speeds as in the aosp roms showing 1X, 4kbps i tried different radio/combinations and still nothing, any idea... pls i really need to get this fixed,. thanks
forgot to say i didnt even noticed this b4 since i was always using 4g so now im stuck with an evo that doesnt like 3g
Ever since I got my replacement 004 model Ive had the exact same problem as you bud. Ive tried different kernels, different roms, anything anyone could suggest with no luck. Ive pretty much given up on the problem and live on 4G now.

all of the sense roms only show 3G never 1x even if you are on 1x. So basically when you are running a sense rom and you are showing crappy speeds you are actually on 1x. The ASOP roms show what network you are actually on. Basically you are in a 1x area and that's why you are getting crappy speeds. Hope this helps. This has been a problem for a long time.

Headache after headache after headache since I got the Froyo OTA.
Lots of freezes causing me to pull the battery several times a day. Also the battery power drains so quick I can't even come up with a comparison. Then don't get me started the 3G going down all the time...this is f***ing ridiculous. I did root it but I have seen no change. I have even disabled the bloatware...anyone have any suggestions for me.
Much thanks in advance,
Doc
You can try odining back to DL09 or whatever, re-update OTA, and see if the problem happens again...
If not, I would just leave it stock and return it to verizon with the 1 year warranty
Ive had the same issue! I rerooted and flashed evil fascination and I am not having hardly any problems. Ive had a few forcecloses but nothing like what came with stock froyo
My girlfriend is having the same issue after i MADE her update to the OTA 2.2. Text messages dont get sent and it is very laggy. The whole phone is too slow to use so i plan on flashing a custom rom or going back to 2.1 with odin. What roms are pretty similar to stock that maintain that whole touchwiz feel?

Did you perform a factory reset? That seemed to fix a few problems.
For starters, this is common. The stock Froyo update screwed a lot of people up. Next, simply rooting it doesn't *FIX* anything, all it does is give you the ability to run Apps as Administrator, giving you more power/control. So, you rooted it, that wasn't going to fix your issues. Flash a custom ROM. I personally recommend the Community ROM. If after flashing a different ROM, after wiping Cache, Dalvik Cache, and user data, etc. you still encounter the same issues, then yes, I'd exchange it.

Common? Really?
About the same time as the ota froyo was released, verizon had a bunch of 3g & 4g data issues on their network (perhaps it was shortly thereafter).
Otherwise, I see as many posts about the surprisingly good performance of the current stock rom as I see reports of issues.
No offence to the op, but we have no idea how these rooted phones have been messed with before the complaints are conveyed...
So I agree with the suggestion to odin back to a stock pit/modem/kernel/rom and let the ota process repeat from a clean start. From that result, flash a solid voodoo kernel, enable lag fix, pick your favorite rom, etc...

I am currently running the ota 2.2 froyo update...only thing I have done is root and debloat and the phone is very fast! Only issue I have is google voice search force closes.
I think the update is fast... but despite what rom I use there is still intermittent gps issues, voice and data issues even on the first warranty replacement. Dropped calls in solids 4 bar territory on stock or dev roms and 3g fading un and out even after the dmu fix. All issues never had before the update.
Waiting on a call to see if I can get a better replacement option. No interest in Palm, BB or the Dinc Droid Pro or DX they want me to take as a replacement.
Out of the DInc2 Charge and TBolt which is the best options in my fellow forum friends minds. Have my own looking for outside opinions to consider depending on the options I am offered.

Download the app "gps booster". Seem to fix my gps issue... locks in quick and within 10ft. As far as the signal issue, I had the same thing until I replaced the stock battery cover. have yet to drop any calls and my 3g is alot better now! I am absolutely impressed with this phone since doing these little "tweaks"! O and I vote droid charge if your dead set on a replacement! Seems to have better battery and display over the other two.

I stated nothing about the the OP's 3G outtage, any of us who are techy-like at all or who pay attention know what that was about. I was referring to their other issues. And I agree, MANY people have great performance after updating to stock 2.2, while many others are also getting screwed up. It's just one of those things. The OP wasn't one of the lucky, so, either Odin back and try the update again, or go custom ROM.
Well I have a couple DInc2s coming next week.
Really have to send the love to all the Devs who have made the Fascinate fascinating. Just can't wait on Sammy and VZW to get the tools in the hands of the devs to make the most of these phones.
Almost went TBolt but don't want to extend the contract until there are more 4g phones out there.
Wife is excited about FFC so happy wife will be good for me
Would have preferred to stick with the Fascinate but a couple replacements later and even the great roms and kernels couldn't get it to where it should be. Here's hoping that good source drips for everyone soon.
So for free and no contract extension I'll check out HTC...

I did OTA Froyo update on a stock fascinate and my battery also began draining rapidly, about 8-10 hour life in standby I finally figured out that it was the built in facebook sync that was doing it, I had earlier turned off all syncing then noticed fb synced new events to my calendar after that so I completely removed my fb account and now its back to the ~2days of battery life with light use I had with 2.1. Not sure if this is what everyone else is experiencing with battery life problems but its worth a shot. I haven't tried putting my fb account back up to see if it happens again, I'm going to wait until I get around to rooting to do that.
I swear I had these issues with 3g data out completely. This fixed it in 3 minutes. ESN Swap to repartition data. No BS need for another phone.
http://totalhack.ws/esnswap.html
Hope this helps.
Well... Been using the DInc2 for over a day now... Short time but very evident that there is a major issue post update on the Fascinate. Right back to the great download and upload speeds I had pre ed01. No ATT like dropped calls, etc.
Without voodoo quadrant scores on stock in the 1400 - 1600 range consistently.
Just a huge thanks to all our awesome Fascinate developersfor making it a great phone while I had it.
Hope the DInc2 developers are as committed and talented as this team. Right now they are working on getting perma root....

Without being able to use a custom Kernel, I don't see any reason to go to Gingerbread. Kernels are the only thing that actually makes your phone have better battery life, ROMS are great for looking great, but for battery ill wait!
You should try Synergy. Myn has it done right. Super snappy, everything works. Check out his warm 2.2 thread in development. I miss the looks of warm 2.2, but Myn will have them on 2.3 soon enough I'm sure.

It may just be your phone. I'm on the newest MikG and have had no probs and in fact have had way better signal strength and my mms is sending and recieving great. The last MikG 1.04 had a few random reboots and sense restarts but been running MikG 2.0 since it came out and no probs yet

No issues on my end - Running Kings Alliance R6.2

I'm almost positive that the 2.3 OTA doesn't have the DSP manager.

I'm waiting for custom kernels to be released before I jump to 2.3

Yup, I've tried something like 5 different gb roms, and they all had one issue or another. Thanks for this thread, it made me decide to go back to good old warm 2.2.
Hi all,
I am fairly new to modding and would like to ask a quick question that may be simple for some of you.
I have a MT4G "Glacier" and I did some steps found on this forum to root and install a custom firmware on my phone. For the past two weeks, I must have installed about 28 ROMS. Yeah, I know... I have too much free time.
Here is the issue. I have not found a single rom that can do it all. With some roms, my 4G speed don't work. With others, my screen flickers too. The last one I installed, doesn't have sense. No matter what I do, I can't get a rom where my 4G speed works, which I can't live without since I use my phone as hotspot all the time.
The rom that I like the most was [ROM] [ICS] Glacier_One_V_1.3 (9/24/2012) because it has BEATS audio, is based on ICS and it has sense 4.0 which looks and works great. I would love to find one that has all the bells and whistles like this one, but where I can still use my 4G speeds and my screen is not flashing all the time.
I understand that the RADIO is what controls the WIFI, cell signal, etc. Can I update the radio, for one that currently works under Gingerbread into this rom without messing anything up?
If so, how will I go about it and what things do I need to get? Please keep in mind that I already flashed back to stock and I am very comfortable with flashing now, but I don't know much about what goes inside the ROM itself.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Manny
Let me jump in before Jack shreds you for ignorance. The radio IS NOT part of your ROM and has nothing to do with your wifi, gps, the space station or anything other than cell reception (as much as software can). Changing it can be beneficial, but is also dangerous. A failed install means a permanently broken phone. Explain what you mean about not getting 4G.
Sent from my myTouch 4g using xda app-developers app
Appreciate you saving my skin there. Sorry for my ignorance.
What I meam by no 4g speed is, my signal bar on the top right of the phone, almost always reads 4g and get fast browsing speeds on my phone. I can tether my internet to my laptop and it runs great on my stock Ginger.
The moment I go to custom ROM, I can only get 3g and is not just display issues, because the speed is slow based on speedtest.net.
Makes sense now?

Hmm, well, I'm not aware of speed issues on ICS, at least not anymore. However, if you're having issues with it you might try a Gingerbread ROM like Android Revolution HD or Insert Coin.
If you plan on sticking with ICS, you might try the "3G Hacks" in Pimp my ROM. 3G and 4G run off the exact same radio, but a value or two in the ROM may, I repeat MAY, affect the speed. What kind of speed differences are you seeing? Are you comparing these at a similar time of day?
Also, holy crap. You said CFW. I haven't seen that term since my old PSP hacking days. Good times.
Sent from my myTouch 4g using xda app-developers app
I am comparing at relatively the same timed, days and locations. Office versus home, etc.
I will flash againg ICS and test your recommendations. Thanks for your help.
Compare 10 runs back-to-back, same time, same day, same place. That would be a good basis to discuss something.
For all the rest: no ICS ROM will work properly for you. If you want stability - drop to Gingerbread.
About the radio - estallings15 already answered you. You're looking in the wrong places.
"4G" mark on the signal bar means ABSOLUTELY NOTHING on this phone. 4G means something where "4G" stands for "LTE", which is a different set of bands and different transceivers. This phone doesn't have LTE, nor does T-Mobile AFAIK. So it's just an icon. But - make sure you have "H" showing instead on custom ROMs (HSDPA mode). It should show up when the phone starts actively using data.
This makes perfect sense. I really appreciate your prompt response and suggestions.
Back to flashing.
