Swype sucks at 190 screen density? - G2 and Desire Z General

I just find it hard to use any on screen keyboard (swype or android) when the LCD density is set at 190. Is there a way to combat this problem?

Yea same here, i was much more accurate with my old htc hero but not with me desire z for som reason

I don't have any issues with swype or the gingerbread KB @190, everything scaled just fine for me

i don't have any issues with my screen density set at 180. I use swype in portrait then swiftkey in landscape with the keyboard open.
How do you change screen density, using one of the apps or editing build.prop your self?

I change it with an app. My complaint lies within the fact that the keys are just so small. Accuracy is much harder for me.

Maybe its something the app does then. Give it a try by changing build.prop.
Restore your original settings with the app then using root explorer or something similar and go to /system, then press and hold on build.prop, scroll to open in text editor. Scroll down to
o.sf.lcd_density=240
Then change 240 to 190, open menu click save and exit then reboot.

Is there an app that automates this? This is exactly what I want to do since Swype has absolutely no prediction for the keyboard.

I faced a similar issue in one of the ROMs too! Don't know what the actual issue was but have you tried turning the Compatibility Mode On, if it's Off or vice-versa?

I am using the app LCD Density Changer v5.0 by Beansoft.
And my problem is that my fingers are too fat for the tiny onscreen keys. And my movements are too jerky, I easily swype extra distances and get words wrong. Is there any way to combat that.

Sorry, maybe I haven't been clear enough. I'm using swype in portrait and it is the same size and whatever density I choose. I remember from when I used the density changer app I had compatability issues with certain apps and I also couldn't get the density to stick after a re boot. So I started editing build.prop manually and now don't have any issues.

LCD Density Question

Hi Guys,
i've changed my LCD Density to 200.
Works fine and looks great.
But some Apps, like Facebook, were not stretched to fit the Display.
I've read something about a Compatibility-Mode, but doesn't found anything.

find an app, i think its on the market, called Spare Parts, there is a compatibility Mode in there which needs disabling. That should sort it out for you.
Thank you.
can u make a screen that i can see whats different with 200dpi??thank u !!
200 DPI basically makes it "appear" that you have a higher resolution screen. Characters and icons are smaller on the screen so it appears that you have more space.
Changing to 200DPI is more of a nuisance than a blessing when using a screen smaller than 4.3 inches, which is why you'll see more and more people with the HD2 using it.
180 here for me and it's lovely, on the ROM in using Button Savior doesn't seem to want to work properly with 200, athough it has previously with other ROM's using 200 :s
Using Launcher Pro with 5 Rows x 6-7 Columns. The whole screen just seems alot less cluttered.

/system/build.prop
in there, about 1/2 way down, change the value of "ro.sf.lcd_density=***" to whatever you want the value to be, either 200 or 180, whatever you feel looks good.
Remember to restart after changing the value.
Or, i think there is an LCD Density changing app on the market, but ive never used it.
`Thank u works great & looks nice!!
but 1 question: it seems to me, that my smart keybord is smaller too? Can this be true?

i guess the density effects the whole system (besides apps that run in an own window like fullscreen games)
I highly recommend Zeam Launcher as launcher, when DPI is changed,
it scales icons and labels very well, 5,6 or 7 columns is also nice!
Widgets size can also be changed when added to screen.

HTC Incredible 175DPI....Nice

Set my DPI to 175. I like the look. My brother says it makes everything too small. What ya'll think?

I myself find low scale dpi a really nice look.
I haven't tried 175 yet but I'll make sure to take a look at it.
Guess I should get a tablet to suit my needs lol.

I just like the look of high-res myself. If I could find a phone with a 4" 1080p screen I'd be all over it. LOL
That looks like ICS; does your phone app work at that DPI? I always had issues with that when I increased the DPI.
Yep. Its CM9 RC0 and phone app works fine.
Nice, thanks, I guess I'll have to give it a go again.
175 works great..I went into launcher setting and changed homescreen to 5x5 instead of the default 4x4. Makes the screen seem much bigger then it is.
I had to change it back to 200 cuz incoming calls crash my phone app although I was able to dial outgoing calls just fine.
That's odd, because when I set it to 175, I couldn't even dial. I've never been able to pull off that kind of setting on anything other than ParanoidAndroid and not have phone app FCs.
Go 160. 175 isn't an officially supported DPI for android
how do you change the dpi?

By build prop or LCD density app.
Sent from my ADR6300 using Tapatalk 2
I tried 160 a bit earlier today and had the exact same issue with the phone app. I would be inclined to believe that it may be a matter of the phone app in our ROMs not supporting anything other than stock DPI without modification to the app itself.
I'm comfortable with 200. Everything works so far.....also I change mine using ROM Tools. Its a slider. But you can use Root Explorer to change the build.prop file as well. Either way works.

Randon wallpaper size change

I'm enjoying my N10 but randomly the size of my screen changes. Maybe it's not all that random because it happens when I change orientation BUT it's not consistent. I can get it back to the smaller image by turning the tablet around and opening and closing apps but it's pretty ridiculous and I'm inclined to ignore it but it surely isn't right. I don't seem to find a thread where anyone else is having this problem. I suppose if I changed to a pattern of snowflakes I might not notice it but the snowmen shouldn't be changing sizes. btw I am using ADW Launcher and hope that's not the problem becasue I like it's features.
Anyone?

I used to have the same problem with my nexus 7 and I was unrooted and completely stock running no launchers. So it's not that. But still... It's something lol.
try the app: "Simple Image Wallpaper"... after installation its not under the app drawer but is found by clicking and holding on the main screen, clicking wallpaper, and then selecting "Simple Image Wallpaper" and then just going through the settings. you can also have it change images for when you rotate it so you can have the snow one on landscape and a different one for portrait mode.

Excellent and thanks. The app actually installs under "live wallpapers". It took me a minute to find it.

Cant get head around DPI changes on PA?

Hi guys,
I did do a search but couldnt find an answer to this. I have just rooted and installed PA rom to my phone to use the extended desktop etc. Thing is, there are 3 different tablet ui on their settings which i dont really understand? all are 1000p but diff dpi settings. Seems that if i 'lower' my dpi everything gets smaller, surely that should be the other way around as normally higher dpi = crisper image doesnt it? What ui are people using on PA?
I clicked on the help bit of the pa settings and it shows changing some stuff on the youtube app to make it look different but that doesnt seem to work either, was that only for tablets to get the 3d menu effect?
Thanks all
It's very easy. Dpi = size. That's it. Forget all this Tablet mode nonsense from the past. Dpi makes apps bigger or smaller nothing more.
Now apps bring layout containers, the programmer defines them. These containers tell the app how it should look on various devices and screen sizes. Paranoid android can read the actual layouts out of any app. And you can choose of course, again, app per app.
Every app on your system can have it's own size and layout. Everything is nicely listed on the hybrid manager. System Ui, the app that displays bars is no difference. We treat it in the same way. " tablet mode" means simply we set it to it's highest layout. There's several settings because you can decide how big you want it, these are presets that's all. You can finetune it in the interface section. Play around with it, almost nothing needs a reboot, not even switching UI's.
I sometimes wish xda would not ignore us. They haven't featured hybrid engine at least once so people still don't know what it is.

Right column sets Skype into a higher UI. This is how it looks on a nexus 10. Try any app you like there's literally hundreds with awesome UIs that work great on your phone.

Thanks for the help mole, yeah i think i realise how the dpi works now it just confused me as i thought higher dpi would = smaller crisper text but i am clearly confusing that with resolution (thought they were the same thing).
Appreciate the mini tutorial will just keep playing with it

You can change the dpi for system.ui using xposed framework with the app settings module. You could also change the dpi globally in the build prop.

I realise how late this reply is, but I was having the same issue and I figured it out
I found that changing the DPI to 420 shrinks it down just right but you can play with the number to get the size you want, a bigger number means that the elements are bigger.

Have the same issue - notification too big. Want to shrink it down.
When I change the DPI, can you limit this to just the notification? If so, which setting applies to this?
Any chance you can upload a sample? Be good to see it Thanks!

I think he just changed it globally. But if you use this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/xposed/modules/mod-app-settings-v1-7-1-2013-12-15-t2437377
you can change the dp for systemui.apk only.
