Hi Everyone,
I live in Toronto on the Telus network with an unlocked International version of i9000.
In town I have great signal but when I leave an urban area my signal drops to nothing. I can goto Wireless and network->Mobile Networks->Network operators and searches and finds TELUS but when I select it says cannot register onto network.
I've called Telus tech-support and they pushed a SIM update and say they see no errors on their side.
Tests I've done: I switched my SIM card to one from Bell's when out of town and had the same problem. I could see the Bell network but couldn't register onto it. But Bell service would resume when I reached an urban area.
I've had the issue with stock ROM (which I suspected was due to wrong modem) but then I flashed a Bell compatible modem and I have the same issue.
I'm running international i9000 Doc's JPY Rom (wipe isntall): and flashed JL2 modem (Bell 850/1900). I have 2100mhz 1900mhz and 850mhz WCDMA frequencies selected in bands menu.
I've been having this issue since August and if anyone has any ideas on what I can try please let me know.

Guys, anybody knows if really have any "real" difference between the E900 and E900h versions?
I am asking this because I own an Orange-FR E900 and as widely said, this version doesn't support UMTS 850. Even in the box of my handset only shows "WCDMA 900/1900/2100, GSM 850/900/1800/1900".
But I never had any problem using it anywhere I went in the American continent, even before I flashed it with the Open-EU ROM.
With the original French ROM, I had used it both in 3G and 3G+ successfully here in Brazil with Vivo, Oi and Claro SIMs (all UMTS 850/2100), in Argentina with a Personal Telecom SIM (UMTS 850/1900) and Canada on Fido (UMTS 850/1900).
Now with Open-EU ROM and the Tim SIM (UMTS 850/2100), I performed a simple test on Band Settings. With "WCDMA 850" set, I got the "3G" sign at the Status Bar, and with "WCDMA 2100" I got the "H" sign that replaced the "3G+" from the previous ROM.
So I'm guessing what is the deal here? Luckily I got one "factory all-unlocked bands" or all those "Euro-Spec / American-Spec" thing is just bs they told to us to avoid "bootlegging"?
Where did you get the OPEN EU ROM?? I can't find it.
As you know I am having problems connecting to UMTS 850 here with Claro Peru and I think is due to a software (ROM) lock or stuff like that and I wanna re-flash my phone E900 using the OPEN EU ROM.
Please, give me the URL to get the ROM. Did you get some issues with the new ROM? maybe camera or marketplace access?
Thank you

I got the ROM and all instructions here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=935578
I recommend you to read the entire thread before flashing your device. Information is never too much
PS.: Don't try to flash your E900 with an E900h ROM (and vice versa). If you do that, you gonna brick your device.
There are actually very minor differences, between the two. I have yet to compare actual parts models, but here are the sevice manuals, with all individual components teared down and outlined. Take a look, perhaps it would clarify something. The manuals are very long, of course.

Hi, I just got an E900 (It was a gift) I can't get a 3G signal in Telcel's (México) Network which uses a 850/1900 band. The phone is OPEN, is not locked in any form and came from factory with Mango.
I have tried all the possible band configurations through the MFG app but can't get a "3G" signal. Here is the question, is there any possibility to get the phone to work with Telcel's 3G Network or Am I wasting my time?
Best Regards

You are wasting your time, you need an e900h to get UMTS or 3G on the 850mhz band.
I've got both an used unlocked Vodafone E900 (carrier still says Vodafone - how do I get it to open) and a brand new Telus E900h with me and can't decide which one to keep.
E900H will have to be unlocked and it's asking me for PIN right now. But it has 850 signal and since I'm using Tmobile US with it I should be able to get 3G. With the E900 I'll only be able to get Edge on T-mobile unless if I switch to ATT but they're pay as you go plan isn't as nice.
But it seems that you aren't able to get internet sharing to work on E900h since Telus hasn't released it. That option is available to E900.
Are there any other differences? Which one should I keep? I've a tendency to lose phones but I don't think I'll want to keep both around.

Hi all,
Flashed the new (...015) baseband version to my e15a phone a few weeks ago (chose the correct 'a' baseband), and since then have not been able to get any 3G coverage in my home town which originally had almost perfect coverage, if I put my sim into other phones it will detect 3G, which leads me to believe the problem is my phone. Weird thing is, I still get decent 3g coverage in the city, and I can pick up the 3G signal on other networks in my home town, so I know my 3G signal hasn't been fried completely. I've tried restoring my phone to factory settings via PCC, re-installing the old baseband, and trying a new sim, all to no avail. Is it possible that i've partially fried the 3G receiving hardware in my phone?, or maybe vodafone (my network in Australia) runs on a different 3G frequency in my home town that this new baseband doesn't recognize? any other possible suggestions?
I recently rooted my nexus s and loaded up NSCollab.
After successfully flashing I cannot connect to mobilicity network! I've tried to do manual search for network but all I see is
Rogers Wireless
302320
302490
Mobiclity does not pop up and I've tried more than 10 times. I tried to load another ROM (MIUI 1.7) but I still can't connect.
HELP!!!!
you do know rogers and mobility use different cell bands, right?

What he's seeing is Rogers' 2G network.
OP:
What I suggest is go to your dialer and hit *#*#4636#*#* which will take you to a test menu. Hit "Phone Information," scroll down, "Set preferred network type" to WCDMA.
Also check your coverage area. I live by the lake and when I tried out Mobilicity I had ZERO reception. The frequency they run on has weak building penetration. I had dropped calls at Bay and Queen.
I figured it out. The network ID 302320 is actually Mobilicity.....I'm not sure why it appears this way when I updated ROM's but that's how it is.
Once I connected to 302320 all is good.
Thanks guys for the help!
Hey all,
Just recently bought a 2nd hand Samsung galaxy s i-9000.
My sim card here in oz uses 900/18002G/gsm and 900/21003G.
However, I am having problems connecting to the 900Mhz band for 2G and 3G networks in this phone.
When I go into service mode of phone *#*#0011#*#* I can see the bands it uses under automatic
showing
gsm
850*
900*
1800*
1900*
wcdma
2100*
1900*
900
850*
I also went into the service menu under version info and have seen this
CP sw version i9000 UGJK4
FTA sw version I9000M.001
Does this mean this is an 850Mhz phone for wcdma and is the Canadian Galaxy S version or the i9000m model? Can any experts gurus confirm this?
Interestingly I cannot get 900Mhz 2G at all or call out on this frequency instead getting 1800Mhz as the only gsm band to work with my sim card.
TIA to all expert replies.

Ok,
Discovered the solution hope this helps others getting into the brilliant Galaxy S phone.

shows that the OP had the same issues as me. So I did what he said and flashed the signed CM7 version of JVT onto the phone with clockwork recovery 3 button press.
The previous modem was utilising the 850Mhz and that is not compatible with my sim card as certain bands were blocked.
Now going into the service menu I see the JVT baseband modem and furthermore all the GSM are * and for the wcdma
2100*
1900*
900*
850
note the 850 is not ticked anymore and I confirmed in basic information that the gsm 900Mhz now works..
Woooooooooooooooooooooooott I am excited phone now works properly with my sim carrier. Seems like the previous owner was using the Telstra network on this phone.
I'm an AT&T subscriber with a us based I337. Rooted, stock NC1. I'm currently in Canada, North of Toronto. . My phone seems to significantly prefer roaming on the Rogers network, which gets very poor service in my area. Most of the time, I get a tiny bar of G or E network. Sometimes, the Rogers signal weakens enough that I can get on the Telus network, which is great. My wife (unrooted S4 Active, at&t) is mostly on the bell network, which seems good. I've tried making the Telus apn (found elsewhere on this site), and I cannot change the network setting away from Default Setup in Network Operators. I've tried dialer code *#2263# which results in "RWT selection option is restricted".
Please help - I'd like to either force it onto Telus, or force it off Rogers. How can I do this?
Thanks
