Hi I was wondering if i could get Jolicloud (linux based operating system for netbooks) on the streak
Ive heard of some people installing linux on their android phones so since this is a ubuntu based OS, it should be installable, shouldnt it?
Sure, let me know when you do if you could get a jolicloud source with arm bsp could help on that endeavour.

i'm glad i wasn't the only one who thought of this. maybe one day.
Well does anyone know how to flash linux onto this thing? If they do it should be easy from there

Interesting. Is anyone working on this? How would one begin to port a linux distro to a streak?

Any chance of seeing N in the awaited update? Or is it a confirmed hardware limitation? I find it odd that Dell wouldn't build N into the Streak and leave it at b/g.
that is actually a very good question

alot of android devices seem to get added n functionality with 2.2. maybe its a froyo thing.
Hi, I just got a dell streak and would like to know which would be the best OS to have on it.
Any advice would be appreciated

Dj steves streakdroid is about your only custom option. Its great but not perfect, I think hes workin around with unknown source codes or something makin it difficult to perfect the monster. You can go stock 2.1 which keeps the ultimately useful bar/app button. 2.2 isnt worth a damn considering streakdroid 1.7.0

The Search Button is Your Friend!
A little research on your part would have told you that there is no 2.3 for Streak, with the exception of the experimental and still early developing GingerStreak from DJ Steve, with extensive kernel re-writing by Fards.
Unless you are quite talented in flashing custom roms, and don't use your Streak as your main device, you will probably want to patiently wait for further development, stability and refinement.
I suggest you do a thorough search on the subject so you don't get flamed in open forum, or worse, brick your Streak!

Simple streak rom I would think is best cpu performance, but I have on tried 1.9.1,and like it with set cpu to minimum 384 maximum 1119,lcd density 180 or 200.......im still on 305 bb though.....might be even better if I put a newer ones

Agreed, Simple-streak is the fastest performance. The latest 1.9.1 is stable and very good but Simple-streak is fastest and best for games.

This is to the devs, I'm sure you've all heard about the program Canonical is running to get Ubuntu on the Nexus 7. https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Nexus7/Installation http://www.engadget.com/2012/10/27/ubuntu-nexus-7-installer/
Anywhere here's the link, I hope you guys can get this to work because the lapdock and native ubuntu would be the best. I know it's a leap, but it would be sweet.

I think the odds of them supporting EOL'd Tegra2 devices is pretty damn remote.

Wasn't referring to Canonical supporting us... That's kind of why I was hoping devs would see this. Maybe it could be modified for our device after/if we get a proper kernel/drivers and regardless it's pretty interesting even if you don't own the device.
Moved to the appropriate forum.
Ain't there already nvidia tegra kernel for linux? We would only need some drivers for more gsm related stuff. (But only if anyone wants to make calls)

There are drivers for Linux but it would be a huge work from our devs to manage booting on a kernel that supports these drivers.
There is archlinux build for nvidia tegra2 developers board called trimslice. Ready to boot.

It's for the tegra 2, but I believe it's either the harmony/ventena board, so it's similar but different from ours.
EDIT: and I know this has been discussed before, but would this http://www.nvidia.com/content/devzone/linux-for-tegra.html assist at all in native port?
From what i learned lately. Android kernel works differently in some aspects than linux. I think we could we could replace safetly any kernel with that from nvidia with ventana support(of course without gsm, gps support). Someone said that android kernel doesn't probe hardware just directly connects to it. On the other hand linux kernel does probe hardware so if anything would be not supported it wouldn't use it, so instead generic drivers would be used (like on x86). Or am i totally wrong?

This forum is for the 'coming soon' new phone OS not running linux within android, if you want a thread to talk about that click my sig
1. This is wrong forum section, as user above wrote, this is upcoming mobile Ubuntu OS only forum.
2. Backtrack is linux distro based on Ubuntu. It's created for security experts, so if you don't know what to do with it I think you shouldn't have it, no offense. This is very powerful tool and it is made for people who know what they are doing.
