Santa Steve and Gingerbread cookies

Steve,
First, I want to thank you for all of your work you have down on Steakdroid Froyo. It's fantastic. i love it. I use it. As do most of the XDA streak community.
I've donated to you...and I hope more people will do the same because without a doubt...the streak would not be the phone/tablet it currently is without all of your hard work.
I would love to see Gingerbread ported to the streak. So this is a formal request for a Gingerstreak rom.
I most definitely will be donating to see a gingerbread rom running on our streaks.
I ask the Streak community to sound off on this post. Show your support for Steve and a gingerbread rom!

Haha...I hear you guys. I'm all for a working MIUI rom too. And I would definitely donate to see a working one. From what I've read on that post...it's far from being ready for everyday use. But one can hope!

I would be surprised if it isn't ported over by feb 2011..just need to be patient

I really do not think it is required to a ask djsteve to make a gingerbread rom. I am sure tjat he is aware how much gingerbread would be wanted. But the man has so much on his plate alrwady. Miui, cyanogen mod. He will make one eventually but there is no need to pester him.

+1 for the "Gingerstreak" Rom as well. Or a fully working Cyanogen. Thats awesome as well. That would be better then MIUI.

gingerbread will come but personally from playing with it on nexus one its NOT actually all that much different to froyo, theirs no spectacular new features or anything

its pretty and its the latest software version. how many people can say they have a gingerbread phone yet, and how many of those people have it on a 5" screen?

Lol, Steve mate swype =crazy typing. I suffered from the swype too long. However the ginger one on your rom ain't too bad. But android is begging for a good keyboard.
Isn't the fancy keyboard. (I forget the name but it has fantastic algorithms) in gingerbread?

Custom roms

Hey guys, ive had my streak for8 months now. I used to have a htc touch jd and I was used to the fact I could change to rom pretty easilly and I was spoilt for choice.
Im currently on official o2 2.2, iwas just wondering if there are any roms which are significantly improved in terms of looks and speed for the streak.and if so is there a good guide that tells me how to install them?
Any recomendations would be greatly appreciated.

Here is a good place to start

I would have to say that I am an avid user of StreakDroid. Sure it has a small bug here or there, but as far as speed you can't go wrong with using StreakDroid with perfmod.

That is good news.
Looks like each streak has its own love for a different rom.

I agree 351 is the best stock rom so far. One issue I don't like that has popped up since 345 and newer is the flashing profile pics in text messages and google talk. Other than that it runs great.

351 is great works just as good as 318 for me, but after now updating and having it 4 a week, all I want now is a update to gingerbread haha the grass is always greener as they say!

my streak broke 1 month ago.so ive send it to repair...took one month..i just got it back and dell changed the mainboard(basically whole phone)that caused the random reboots.now since i got it...updated to 351 rom..and i didnt get a reboot in one week.simply beautifull this rom...now this is how the streak should be!!!so impressed now.cheers

I have android 2.2 installed ,but with some problems. Can I install 2.3 or else .
I need high cpu performance. Battery life extention. Better sip call by 3G . Thanks

The Search Button is Your Friend!
A little research on your part would have told you that there is no 2.3 for Streak, with the exception of the experimental and still early developing GingerStreak from DJ Steve, with extensive kernel re-writing by Fards.
Unless you are quite talented in flashing custom roms, and don't use your Streak as your main device, you will probably want to patiently wait for further development, stability and refinement.
I suggest you do a thorough search on the subject so you don't get flamed in open forum, or worse, brick your Streak!

Simple streak rom I would think is best cpu performance,but I have on tried 1.9.1,and like it with set cpu to minimum 384 maximum 1119,lcd density 180 or 200.......im still on 305 bb though.....might be even better if I put a newer ones

Agreed, Simple-streak is the fastest performance. The latest 1.9.1 is stable and very good but Simple-streak is fastest and best for games.

I loved the custom roms but I need 100% stability and I found that on 354. I will be switching to 364 once I can figure out how to!

Which is the best ROM for the Streak (Poll)

There are a handful of ROMS to choose from now and was just wondering what people consider the best ROMs. The things I am looking at are:
1. Speed
2. Stability
3. Features

StreakDroid 1.9.1 tried SimpleStreak 1.3 test 5 but it doesn't seem as good, StreakDroid has a nice text file to configure options upon installation, i like that.

I tried Cyanogen 2.0 and liked it, but it kept turning off at random (couldn't figure out why).
I voted for 1.9.1 (most stable for me). But I can't get the headset to work properly (I can hear the caller's voice, but the caller won't hear me).

seems like people are mixing up the ginger streak 2.3 with 2.0.0 . I dont think anyone is using 2.0.0, not to mention saying it is fast and stable...

I would say SD 1.9.1
I have been using SimpleStreak for months now, but just went back to StreakDroid. I like the zip of SimpleStreak derived from being so stripped down, but you gotta hand it to Dj_Steve for creating a ROM that is so damn fast and includes EVERYTHING!
Of course as soon as the new SimpleStreak is final I will probably switch, because I find that they all get stale after a while...

Cool, thanks for all the responses. It seems the stock rom is the most popular followed by 1.9.1 and 2.3.
I have tried SD 1.9.1 and I'm on 2.0 now but I feel the speed is pretty poor. I'm thinking of switching to simple.
Does the launcher have a big effect on speed?

New Streak Droid 2.4 rock! Stable and fast, best available Rom currently for the Dell Streak IMO.

stock 360 the battery lasts me 5 days with light use
(i only use my phone as a phone now i got a cheap tablet for every thing else)

Simple Streak 1.2 -- very stable and smooth as butter
