Hi experts,
Very frustrated with the SGS phone GT-I9000 I bought a week ago. I keep getting "Data network not available" while trying to make merely voice call (in area with poor signal).
However, I have no problem making call using old Nokia phone with the same SIM card.
The GT-I9000 was upgraded to Froyo 2.2 (DXJPE) lately.
Anyone encountered similar issues? What's wrong with this Android phone, modem issue?
Regards,
Void
That new i would return to seller and get them to check phone under warranty .

i got the same problem after upgrading to froyo, im from Panama, but i flashed my device following some UK guide, so i flashed it with another CSC, so if you did so, we both lose our network settings, so you have to set up the APN manually.(thats what i read) but i did so and i still cant make calls nor receive 3G
It happens on EDGE. Make sure you've selected the network to operate in WCDMA only..
Switch the Wireless and network -> Mobile network settings -> Network mode to "GSM only" or "WCMDA only" but doesn't resolve the issue.
However, I notice when the problem occurred, the Setting->About phone -> Network showing "Unknown" but the Signal strength seem to be OK, fluctuating between -87 dBm 13 asu (with 4-bar) and -111 dBm 1 asu (2-bar )
Probably, SGS transceiver/modem is not as good as Nokia E71.
Anyway, I guess I can only use this "smart" phone in city area.
in my case the problem was the orange phone card. i have changed it.

I think i have a faulty unit because i can not connect to the internet at all (although it worked last sat morning when i got the unit but i did not try again until my number got ported)i have tried it on GSM only and checked all the settings over with the guy from T-Mobile and they are ok but if i put my sim in my Jam i get a connection with no problems.
The guy from T-Mobile says it may be beacuse i am on the fringe for UMTS reception but i get the U symbol and 4 bars on the strength meter but surely it should go on to GPRS if it can not get reception on UMTS as it would do for phone calls anyone any ideas ?
Start>Settings>Personal Tab>Phone>Band>"Select Network Type" and change to GSM (it's probably on Auto), then ok it all.
If you now connect over GPRS (which is what the above is to do - force it not to use UMTS at all), then you're ok.
Next thing is to go to a UMTS strong area, and do the settings but set back to Auto and see if u get 3G connection.
Hope it helps.
i just get the message ''warning:unable to change GSM/UMTS Band, please try again later''
thanks anyway
Hello!
I spent last week in France and I had a lot of problems with GSM signal. Phone sometimes can't connect to operater. When I looked in settings menu I saw only ''searching'' and nothing happend. Then I just click on ''Find network'' and after some second everything was OK.
For me is this a big problem because I must be reachable all the time.
What could be wrong and how could I solve the problem?
Bye,
Borut
I'm on radio 1.38.00.11, and I have the same problem too... sometimes it does not even get any signal after trying to "find network". When I disable the phone and enable it again (flight mode and back) it will get full signal, I'm at the same spot for the whole process so its not the reception of the location.
Any idea?
I sent also an E-mail to HTC support team and still waiting an answer.
I got this answer:
Good Afternoon,
?
Unfortunately this can happen sometimes when roaming, especially if the SIM from your network does not have the preferred roaming partners programmed into it.
?
What tends to happen is that as the phone is switched on in the new country, it will automatically search for all networks in range and then systematically attempt to register and connect with all of them one by one.? Sometimes, depending on the speed with which the networks respond to the handset's requests to register, this can take a few minutes, especially if there are many networks in range.? It can also happen as the signal from one network disappears and the phone must begin this process again.
?
One thing I would suggest would be to contact your Operator and ask them for the name of the preferred roaming partner of the country you are travelling to and upon arrival in the country, you can manually select the network to connect to.? this should then tell the phone to keep with that network until it loses signal, but it should automatically return when the signal is found again.
?
Thank you for your enquiry, Should you have any other problem, please do not hesitate to call us. Your Local number can be found at http://www.europe.htc.com/support/csbyphone.html

Hello,
I have a huge problem with my Galaxy S5 SM-G900F. I bought it abroad and when I used it for the first time in my country I saw, that there is a problem with 4G/WCDMA connection. When I put my sim card to the phone and set all the preferences in mobile connection menu to "Auto" there is no possibility to call or to recieve calls (even if i saw signal strength meter showing some marks). I can only recieve and making call when I set "only 2G" option and manually select my network. But signal is also very poor.
What I have checked yet:
1. Other sim also doesn't work good.
2. After *#06# i saw my IMEI and it is the same under the battery and on the box (doesn't start from "00") so i think that it is not missed (efs folder).
3. Change firmware with KIES and ODIN for the other version - no changes. Also flash some other "modem" files with Odin with no success in better signal.
4. When im on the free air the signal strength is even at maximum level, but immidiately after going to my house - there is no signal. I saw also, that when im in the city i can connect with 2G network (only), but when im on a village there is no signal at all (even 2G...)
Do you have any ideas what can be wrong? Is this hardware failure? Maybe something with antenna? What should I do before going to gsm service center? Maybe i should change kernel and try some of the custom roms?
Thank you for your help.
regards

Maybe there is a region lock? Does the Imei start with 35xxxxxx? Does the S5 support the local 4G bands of your provider? Maybe ask your provider for a new simcard. Correct APN settings applied?
My IMEI starts with "35....". Samsung S5 should be able to connect with WCDMA/4G LTE bands in my country. My sim card was changed about 3 months ago, so it is good - i have checked it in nexus 5 and everything works very well. All APN settings are applied.
How can i check if the phone has region lock? The phone is from UK and now I live in Poland.

You can check on the box. If is has region lock, there will be a warning message printed on the box.
Is there any warning message in the notification bar?
And please check as below:
While the phone is receiving LTE/WCDMA signal, open the Dialer, enter *#0011# --> capture screenshot (1).
Then press Menu > Back entry (not Back key) > Menu > Key Input > Q0 > wait for some seconds... > MAIN MENU > DEBUG SCREEN > NAS INFORMATION > MM INFORMATION --> capture screenshot (2). And then Menu > Back entry MM REJECT CAUSE --> capture screenshot (3).
And post these 3 screenshots.
I was able to connect to wcdma signal (I think) for some minutes. I give you all screenshots.

Is your network Polkomtel?
The error cause is: No suitable cells in location area - This cause is sent to the phone if it requests location updating in a location area where the subscriber, by its subscription, is not allowed to operate, but when it should find another allowed location area in the same network.
So may need to give this information to your network operator and ask them to fix.
So it is not the phone problem? It is my network operator error?
My network is Play P4, but this provider has no transmitters for his own in Poland (or has very few). He is able to use all of transmitters in Poland through the roaming (so teoretically i can connect with Polkomtel, T-Mobile and orange transmitters)

I'm using ANL1 Stock but I get "GSM Only" signal problem.
If I use WCDMA/GSM I can call/send USSD/MMI code without losing signal.
But when I set to "GSM Only" (as I use WiFi all the time) I lost signal right after a phone call/ send USSD/MMI code/send SMS or anything that uses cellular signal.
WiFi is working great.
The only way to get the signal back is to turn on flight mode (wait for around 2 minutes) & turn it off again.
When I got my Note 4 on October 2014, everything is OK (using the same SIM card)
The problem happened since 4 days ago.
Can anyone help me?
Have you find the the solution yet? I have the same problem when using 3g or any other type of networks.
