Hi
I had a problem with my htc magic after trying to flash the RA-sapphire-v1.0.0 recovery image into the phone. Before the problem occurred I rooted my phone and flashed RA-sapphire-v1.6.5, but because I had an issue with it I tried to flash an old version " RA-sapphire-v1.0.0".
Now my phone keeps rebooting endlessly and I can not access recovery mode, fastboot or anything else?
Is it bricked? Can I fix this issue?
The phone is 32A
Radio is 6.35 (I can not access fastboot so this is from my memory)
If you have no access to fastboot nor recovery, then you are pretty bricked!!!
Are you sure you can't get into fastboot? Pull the batter, press and hold down the back button, and put the battery back in. See if it goes into fastboot then. Do the same thing again, but holding the home button instead to see if you can get into recovery. I dunno why you used an old one and not the new one.

I tried both method and it did not work. The phone is still rebooting endlessly. I used the old recovery since the new one kept restarting the phone to the actual system after I go into recovery mode after 2-3 seconds.
1.6.5 isn't the new one. The newest version is 1.7.0. Well if that didn't work, then year your bricked.
so is there anything i can do to fix it?
JTAG is your only option.

I have HTC Magic Vodafone (32B) and have a similar issue with phone in a reboot loop, however, i can get into fastboot but not sure what next to do. Is there a guide anywhere on what to recover my phone.
Depends, what is your current fastboot information?
Not sure what info you want from Fastboot screen so this is everything i can see
SAPPHIRE PVT 32B SHIP S-ON G
HBOOT-1.33.0013 (SAPP10000)

RADIO-2.22.28.25

Is this the right kind of information?
Two options. Downgrade to 1.5, then update to 1.6, then root, flash a custom ROM, reinstall the 1.33.0013 SPL and 2.22.28.25 radio, and then flash a new custom ROM. Optionally, you can downgrade to 1.5 and upgrade back up to 2.2.1. Either way just let me know and I can assist.
Thanks for you help with regards to the approach, is one easier than the other? If they are both roughly the same then would go for the Downgrade to 1.5 and upgrade back up to 2.2.1. route as it may be easier to sell in a few weeks when the Galaxy S2 out.
So, here we go, please read through all the steps before starting and then reading each step as you go along:
1. Go here and download "sappimg.nbh" and "update1-5.zip".
2. Put all of them on your SD card. I would suggest downloading to a folder on your computer, then copying them over. Have had issues in the pass with people downloading files directly to their SD card and it corrupting the file.
3. With the phone turn off and the SD card in it, boot holding (volume down+power) to get into hboot. The phone should detect the sappimg.nbh, check the file (you'll see a progress bar in the upper right-hand corner), and then ask you to hit "ACTION" to continue. (ACTION being pressing the trackball)
4. The phone will start flashing the different parts of the phones partitions. You'll see the progress bar in the upper right-hand corner a few more times, then after about 5 minutes, it'll ask you to hit "ACTION" again to reboot.
5. Let the phone boot all the way up (this may take a few minutes) and then turn it off without signing in.
NOTE: Unless you need the phone to access the SD card from the computer, in that case sign in and do the next step.
6. Access the SD card, find "update1.zip" and rename it to "update.zip".
7. With the phone off turn it back on by holding (home+power) to get into recovery. You'll see a triangle with an ! in it, press (home+power) again to bring up the menu.
8. Using the trackball, scroll to the "wipe data/factory reset" option and press the trackball to select it. After it completes, scroll to "apply update.zip from SD card" and select it. It should pickup the update file on the SD card and flash it, then reboot.
9. When you get to the login screen again, turn the phone off.
Note: Again, as before, you can optionally login to get into the ROM for access to the SD card from your computer.
10. Repeat steps 6-9 for the "update2-update5.zip" files. You will need to remove the old "update.zip" before renaming the next update file. When you get to the login screen the last time (after flashing "update5.zip") you can sign in and use the phone.
Thanks for the guide but I've hit a problem. The phone recognise the sappimg.nbh and starts to flash itself but when then a message:
model ID incorrect!
Update Fail!
appears and the flash has failed. I've tried this a few times now downloading the file again, formating the SD card etc but to no avail. Do you have any suggestion on how to get round this issue?

Hello, I am having some issues and I've tried all of the fixes on several different forums including this one.
I wanted to root my phone so I followed Amon's guide and successfully went from the Tmobile released 1.6 to the rooted 1.5 in the guide. I then wanted to update to the rooted 1.6 but was having issues with trying to install the update. While in the safe mood I asked it to extract update.zip about 3 times before it finally opened it and it extracted everything really quickly!
I then tried to reboot the phone but it stayed at the green MyTouch 3G splash screen without going anywhere. I've tried all the tricks of taking out my battery, unplugging the USB, any form of combination I could.
I'm told my phone isn't bricked, only stuck but my computer isn't picking up the phone either. It doesn't say it can't read the USB device and fastboot still says waiting for devices.
Can some one please help me with my problem?
Thank you,

What do you mean by safe mode? Which donut ROM are you trying to flash? Which recovery image do you have? How long was it stuck on the splash screen. You need to give more details for us to be able to help out. What radio and spl do you have?
I meant safe mode by where you select the option to extract update.zip.
I was trying to flash Amon's 1.6 32A Rom. Even though my phone states 32B I followed his instructions on how to Root the Mytouch and he was using 32A stuff so I figured if it worked OK, I was now running on 32A instead of 32B.
I was using RAv1.2.0H.img from his original guide. I dont know what radio and spl I have. There wasn't really a guide on updating ROMs so I just tried the same basic steps.
I hope this is more helpful, I am doing my best to learn everything, I am still fairly new to modding a phone. (my last phone was a Blackberry 8100).

I'm not sure what you mean by extract update.zip. I think you are talking about fastboot there. Have you tried to flash the rom in the recovery image? you know, by pressing power and home to get to the recovery, then flashing it through there. go into fastboot by pressing power and back and it will tell you what radio and spl you have. once you have that, write that so we can further get a grasp as to your problem. if in fact you still have the 32A configuration, you might want to flash over the 32B radio and and try to flash a 32B rom.
That is my problem, I can't get past the "MyTouch 3G" green screen. I've tried the Home button, Back button, Vol Down button and holding them for several minutes with no result, it stays at the very first screen when it turns on.
I've tried flashbooting from adb but it says "waiting for devices" and my computer isn't picking up any kind of device.
I'm having the exact same problem except im stuck on the vodafone screen. I also tried flashboot form adb but "waiting for devices" is shown and pc wont detect the device.
Did this before.
If you can get into recovery mode, Hold Home button while powering on, you can restore a nandroid backup, if you took one, or put the sappimg.nbh file or the correct items to flash whatever rom.
I had a stock 1.5 Mytouch. I wanted to root and get the 1.6 version of cyanogen, forgot to flash the HTC_ADP_1.6_DRC83_rooted_base as part of the process and had got stuck in the neverending mytouch logo.
If you can get into recovery:
wipe, then put the update.zip files directly on the card.(use a SD adapter, ...)
Choose apply any update from SD
Choose the base files, then the rom if its a newer version
Once those two updates run, reboot the phone.
My never ending logo disappeared, and the phone booted. Newb mistake on my part.
Wait at least a minute or two once this is done.
since the phone is stuck on the original logo and isnt responding to buttons when loading up... do we manually remove and reinsert the battery while holding the home button?
I have tried getting into recovery mode, but it doesn't do anything past the splash screen. Holding the home button while trying to power on the device won't do much.
hey difinitus keep me updated if u somehow get it to work
Even when you take the battery out for a significant time it turns on immediately to the logo screen. Whats the longest you have left the phone sitting at the logo screen.
A small thought, since it was trying to load a rom you had on your memory card, try taking the battery out, and removing the memory card, and then turn it on and wait a bit and see if you get a different result. Its a thought.
If that doesnt work put the memory card back in and turn it on and once its on remove the memory card.
Perhaps the rom on your memory card is corrupt and it is unable to continue to load it, you could even try putting the rom on again using your memory card reader and your computer, thus erasing the existing one.
try plug usb in to phone
take battery out
prees and hold home button
re-insert battery while still holding button
let go after about 3-5 sec
have you tried getting into fastboot by holding back and powering on the phone once you took out the battery? cuz fastboot doesn't initialize after the splash screen, it just pops up as soon as you hit back and power
@Tech no boy; I have tried using several different update.zip and a .nbh and also tried reformatting.
@sitimber; have tried that before, the splash screen still pops up. It just vibrates once and goes to the logo, with any combination of buttons and steps.
@tazz9690; Yes, no matter what I do it still goes to the splash screen. I've been saying that for several posts now.
you might have a bricked phone then. call up t-mobile and get it returned under warranty. if you are 100% positive that you will not be able to get past your splash screen, then the return center will not be able to prove that you have modded your phone, and they will send you another phone.

Reading the "How to root" thread here. I've rooted a few G1's and a MT3G in the past.
Anyways. I downgraded to RC29, downloaded Amon's recovery and Hard SPL.
Did the whole Telnetd, downloaded telnet from market and mount remount, flash yadda yadda as per stated.
Rebooted and applied the Hard SPL.
After that finished I rebooted and it just hangs on the G1 screen, Home/Power does nothing. Camera/Power does nothing. Trackball/Power just lights the LED up blue.
Will it live the rest of it's life as a door stop?
not being able to boot into anything is a brick but there have been many threads about people who have somehow reversed their brick so just search this forum and see if anything happends who knows it could happen. otherwise its a really shiny paper weight
Bummer. I'll search around a bit more and see if there might be a thread I missed. I don't want to dig into it and do the whole jtag crap since there is still a warranty on the phone.
This is the "How-to" thread I followed and has worked on every G1 I have rooted til this phone which is a brand new one from Tmo.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=442480
Searching more I have read about people not flashing a radio before the SPL and caused a brick. If that is true why doesn't it state this as a necessary step?
Flashing the Radio before the SPL is needed for DangerSPL (although I seem to recall a thread debating that - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=655097 ), I didnt think it was needed for HardSPL, it sounds like a brick unfortunatly, but I am no expert.
It is thought that its safer to flash the SPL and radio ect via fastboot (see link above) , not that it helps to much now, but that is an old guide, it should be updated though
Yep. From what I have gathered is if you can't get into recovery (home+power) or fastboot (camera+power) and it hangs on the G1 boot screen. It's a brick.

its not a brick unless it doesn't turn on at all (depending on how you define the word "brick")
exact same thing happened to one of the G1 replacements my friend got sent to him...we sent it back and they sent him a new one
Nah it's not bricked, the HSpl isn't compatible with your ROM, try flashing he ROM again, or faulty ROM this happens a lot.
Howto fix:
1. Backup any files on your SD card that are valuable to you (you can copy them to your PC's hard drive)
2. Format your SD card to FAT32 ( put your SD in your PC)
Windows: Right-click on SD icon and select format
3. Download the RC29 / RC7 dreaimg.nbh file (don't rename it or your phone won't recognize it):
RC29 (US): http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php/Full_Update_Guide_-_G1/Dream_Firmware_to_CyanogenMod
RC7(Europe):http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php/Full_Update_Guide_-_G1/Dream_Firmware_to_CyanogenMod
4. Put the file you just downloaded onto your freshly formatted SD card (make sure it is named DREAIMG.nbh, the rc7 file downloads with .NBH which is wrong)
5. Turn your phone off.
6. Hold down the Camera button, and press the Power button until the bootloader starts.
Note: On some G1s it may require pressing the action button (trackball), while on others it may require pressing the power button.
7. Follow the on-screen instructions to flash the image.
8. When it's done, press the trackball.
9. Press the Call, Menu, and Power buttons at the same time to reboot. You may need to unplug your phone for this to work.
10. And you're done, your phone is in Manufacture default-settings.
If you want to flash a ROM follow a guide (start from the beginning)
Tell me if it worked or didn't worked!

but on the one i described, just to let you know, i flashed the rc29 dreaimg.nbh like 15 times, it would never get off the G1 boot screen

Try flashing the ROM again if you can go to the bootloader(Rainbow) screen try this:
1. take out the SD card
2. download this file ,open the folder and paste the dreaming.NBH file to the root of your SD card(use your pc or another phone to past this on your SD card).
2. you should get a gray screen once the card in placed back into the phone
3. then press power to start update
4. once the update is complete press the track ball then the rainbow(bootloader) screen should come back up,
5. pull out the battery and there you go your phone should work again
Note: If it didn't updated turn of your phone and turn it on by pressing (& holding) Power+Camera button.
Tell me if it worked

Doesn't work either. Connected, disconnected, SD card in or out, SIM card in or out and any combination of that.
Logcat just sits and says "Waiting for device" while the phone just hangs on the G1 screen. So unless there is a different way to get into the bootloader besides using Camera+Power I'd like to know.
Camera+Power and Home+Power are unresponsive.
Well... it sounds like you've got yourself a fancy plastic brick, just remember for next time

You must have the adb and fastboot binaries for this to work. There are several threads on xda to get those to work. Once you have that working, go to the clockwork recovery thread and download clockworkmod recovery 2.5.x.x. Then copy that to your /AndroidSDK/tools folder. Boot your phone into HBOOT mode. Select Fastboot. Plug your phone into your computer. Let it load the drivers. Open up a command window (DOS) by pressing the window button + R and typing cmd and press run. Change the directory to your /AndroidSDK/tools folder (cd /AndroidSDK/tools). Then type:
fastboot devices
It should return your phone's serial number. Then type:
fastboot flash recovery
DO NOT HIT ENTER YET! Put a space after recovery, then drag and drop the recovery file from your tools folder onto the command screen window. Now press enter.
It should say sending recovery....Okay. Then writing recovery.....Okay.
After that select bootloader from the fastboot screen. Then once it changes to HBOOT mode, just select recovery and it'll boot you into clockworkmod recovery where you can flash any rom you need to.
ok Im gonna try this step by step...hopefully I my phone aint bricked.. tnks so much!
Don't worry, your phone is far from bricked! As long as HBOOT mode is available to you you're fine! I'll try to find the link to the original ROM so that way you can just flash that through HBOOT if this process doesn't work. This process will allow you to keep your engineering bootloader (0.85.2007). Flashing the original ROM will make you have to go back through the rooting process. I really hope you get this to work! Good Luck! And by all means you can PM me with any questions you have. That way I can get back you faster. If you include your email, I can respond right away.
EDIT: Here is the link to the Stock 2.2.1 update. This will undo root. So use that as a last resort. But it will definitely work!
You want to download the PD15img.zip

Just to let you know, you'll only be able to flash Gingerbread ROMs with ClockworkMod 3.0.x.x. You have to use CWM 2.5.x.x to use Froyo ROMs. Just wanted to make sure you knew that, so you don't get into another "brick" kind of situation.

I do believe you are correct...it so happened that i have tried loading Clockworkmod

I also made a mistake in placing the PD15img.zip file on my SDCARD as "PD15img.zip.zip" because the extensions are already associated and it its these small things that one has to be really careful about the certainty of the process step by step.
Anyways as soon as I corrected the file name...my HBOOT loader automatically did the job..but I am back to square one...but this time IM gonna use the older clockwork MOD to install Froyo roms...which my main problem in the first place was losing my WPA_supplicant file..in which I lost the WIFI connection capabilities of the phone..in which it made it difficult for me to access key files to reflash and boot the phone again as a default factory phone...
So my friend has an EVO that was Rooted with Unrevoked. He sold it to his brother who did the OTA update like last week. Now the phone will power on and get stuck on the white screen that says "htc EVO 4G"
I have been working since 7:30 this morning trying to get it to work again. I have read pages of info on this problem but nothing seems to work for me. I Downloaded two different PC36IMG.zip files onto his SD card while it was in my EVO, then I had to move the PC36IMG.zip from the "downloads" file on the SD card to the main list of files using Astro.
I then put the SD card back into his phone and held the vol. down & power button to get in the hboot screen. The phone scans the SD card finds the file, does its little loading thing with the blue progress bar on the right...then it says "checking..." then it says
"Main version is Older
Update Fail!
Do you want to reboot device?
<vol up> Yes
<vol down> No"
I am at a loss
You did how much reading?

Check your bootloader. Is it s-on or s-off?
If it is s-off:
Get a pc36img of amon ra's recovery. Flash it like you have been trying to flash those other img's. When it is done and it asks about rebooting, say no. On the next screen, select recovery. Once in recovery, hook your phone up to your comp and enable usb. Put a Rom, such as CM7 or Mik's in the root of your card by drag and dropping from your computer. Close usb. Make a nandroid backup. Wipe everything, except sdcard. Don't format card right now! Flash the Rom you dropped on your SD. Reboot.
If it is s-on:
Find the official ruu. Run it. Learn patience, because it may be months before they find a root exploit.
This may help
http://htcevohacks.com/htc-evo-hacks/how-to-unroot-your-htc-evo-4g/
Run the RUU and it may recover your Evo.
***THIS WILL REMOVE ROOT***
His phone says S-on.
I am trying the RUU now but at the HBOOT menu it never says HBOOT USB when its plugged in.

Dont use HBOOT USB use fastboot, Watch the video on the site i posted @ 2:28min it shows what to select in the bootloader
Im sorry, lol, thats what I meant. I push the power button when highlighting fastboot and it goes to the screen that says fast boot on top in red then says bootloader, reboot, reboot bootloader, power down....but it never changes to Fastboot USB.
Is your USB cable plugged in ?
or you have the wrong driver on your PC, there are 3 or so different drivers that can load mabe you need to change it to the one posted at the bottom of that page. or your phone is borked, if it is S-On take it to a sprint store and thay may be able to flash it for you.
Yes the USB is plugged in, i even tried 3 other USB ports. I downloaded that driver and after it was done I extracted the ZIP...but what now? In his video he didnt have to do anything.
I know it sounds a little too simple, but have you tried to clear storage from the bootloader?
I don't believe there is an official RUU of 4.22+ available yet, which leaves you kind of screwed. Since the bootloader is s-on, you cannot run any unofficial PC36IMGs through the bootloader. Since the update stuck you with the new bootloader, every RUU is going to give you that error.
Good news is that since you're s-on, you can take it to a Sprint store, tell them what happened (minus the root details, duh) and see what they can do.
Good luck!
i will give it back to him and tell him to try that. Thanks
Make sure you copy the files off the SD card and wipe the SD card before you take it to sprint!
I guess the guide below is long overdue, so, here it is.
If your phone was or wasn't rooted, and one shiny or not so shiny morning or evening one of the following happened:
- It suddenly froze
- It suddenly rebooted by itself
And since then -
- it doesn't boot, but gets stuck in a bootloop or only shows the splash screen (stock splash is green "myTouch 4G" on white background).
- you're getting "can't mount /cache" errors when entering recovery (in case you're rooted)
In that case, keep reading this thread.
There are multiple reports of eMMC failures for a specific kind of eMMC on multiple devices. Please read this thread for more information.
There is a way to find out the eMMC type without rooting. Download Terminal Emulator from Market, install, run, type:
Code:
cat /sys/class/block/mmcblk0/device/name
Watch the result.
SEM04G - good.
M4G2DE - bad.
Both can fail, even without rooting. The "bad" has been shown to fail more.
All those steps are relevant when the device isn't failing yet.
When it fails:
If the device bootloops (boots through splash screen to bootanimation and then reboots, going in circles):
- Reboot to bootloader (remove the battery, insert the battery, press Power + VolDown simultaneously).
- Select "Factory reset".
- If getting to Clockworkmod recovery - select "Wipe data / Factory reset".
- Reboot.
In other cases, or if factory reset didn't help:
- Download the stock ROM in PD15IMG format:
http://www.filefactory.com/file/b4f....140e_26.03.02.26_M_release_155771_signed.zip
- Rename to PD15IMG.ZIP
- Put attention that you didn't rename it to PD15IMG.ZIP.ZIP! If Windows doesn't show you file extensions, like ".doc", ".exe" etc, then the file name should show PD15IMG only, without the ZIP.
- Copy the file to the root of the phone's SD card (do not put it in any folder).
- Reboot to bootloader (remove the battery, insert the battery, press Power + VolDown simultaneously).
- Answer "YES" when the phone will ask if you want to update.
- Wait approximately 10 min.
If the update passes cleanly - you'll be back to stock ROM and functional.
If the update shows "Fail-PU" - send your phone for warranty repair, because it won't function anymore.
how long does it take to update ?
mine gets ok on everything in hboot zip update but then "bypass" the 2 tp section....hmmm might be my diff .zip (it is a couple bytes off yours) currently waiting for download...Phone turns on to white mytouch screen, vibrates and turns off then back on continuesly
Yours just fails...curious gives me hope
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
Yours is just 211mb All others are 312mb...Yours seems to fail.. But unglitched my img crc menu...curious gives me hope
You have corrupt download. It's 312MB.
If it turns off and isn't stuck on the "MyTouch" screen - your problem is different.

my says main version is older!
update fail!
is there any chance of the phone being resurected
Find a newer RUU - the 2.3.4 version in RUU format, and I believe the link in my post is 2.2.1.
i followed the steps and the phone says "update complete... press power to reboot" but when I do the phone still bootloops. what could be the problem?
Could be HW problem of some kind, not eMMC-related.
Hi,
The problem I have is it only shows the splash screen (stock splash is green "myTouch 4G" on white background) when
starting the phone.
Before this happened I had rooted the phone and updated the ROM and was putting some patches on the phone, Recovery shows
info as s-off.
To do a recovery downloaded the stock ROM from your link
(PD15IMG_Glacier_TMOUS_1.17.531.2_Radio_12.28b.60.140e_26.03.02.26_M_release_155771_signed.zip I also did a hash check
and it downloaded fine no corruption) renamed image with the exact name PD15IMG.ZIP (made sure it was not a
PD15IMG.ZIP.zip) and copied it into an empty 1 gig SD memory.
I re booted, did a factory reset x 2 after going to boot-loader, that did not help so I inserted the SD card with only
the PD15IMG.ZIP image in it and rebooted to recovery, but recovery does not ask me anything when it looks for the
PD15IMG.ZIP it says no image or wrong image (it also looks for PD15DIAG.ZIP, PD15IMG.nbh, and PD15IMG.zip same
message) and puts me back into recovery.
Any Ideas on what I should do ?????
Thanks
you're suppose to flash PD15IMG.zip in the bootloader/hboot not the recovery.

I know this is a bit of an old thread, but did you ever get that newer version of the .zip file? The 2.3.4 version discussed above? Or anyone know how to find it?
My phone says the same thing. Thanks
2.3.4 updated Stock Rom
I'm up and running again !! I found a PD15IMG.zip file on the t-mobile support website that worked specifically for the latest 2.32.531.1 update !! After downloading it, renaming it to PD15IMG.zip, copying it to the MicroSD card and booting into HBOOT, it found the file, loaded and checked it and asked me if I wanted to update. Everything is working since. Here is the download link (I've uploaded it to megaupload): http://www.megaupload.com/?d=X1EAIPBJ
I hope this helps !!
This is what happened: I bought two MyTouch 4G's on craigslist from the same seller (a couple) and his phone works fine, only hers was corky, it wouldn't go past the MyTouch 4G screen. Both HBOOT screens are identical too, I checked his software version and it is the latest one (2.32.531.1), so I assume that hers is the same, it also shows the same date, July 15 2011 and the same radio 26.13.04.19_M in HBOOT. After trying both different PD15IMG.zip files (2.3.4 and 2.2.1), I've been getting the "main version is older" errors on both. No Fail-PU though, so that made me hopeful that there was a solution. I'm thinking that she updated to the latest version and somehow it got corrupted, that is why the phone was stuck at the MyTouch 4G loading screen and wouldn't go any further.
My phone wouldn't turn on this morning so I found posts suggesting to download one of the PD15IMG.zip files. I keep trying to update my phone but it freezes after I select yes to update. Does anyone have any suggestions? I've run out of ideas.
IDK

My phone is unrooted. I tried a different sdcard earlier, I'm starting to think my phone is just done for. I just want to be sure before I have to give in and buy a new one
i downloaded
PD15IMG_Glacier_Gingerbread_S_TMOUS_2.19.531.1
renamed, went thru the whole install process and instructed me to power down to begin using the phone
keeps doing the same thing... stuck on the My circle logo, then powers down. either that, or does the factory reset, powers down, and goes back to it again once powered up.
suggestions?
Reflash again.
If the same problem occurs, and the reflash completes ok (no "Fail-PU" message on any partition) - then you most likely have some non-eMMC-related HW problem.
My phone was performing the update and turned off for some reason now wont turn on at all, not to boot screen or hboot screen.... what now? it shows the charging light but thats the only sign of life
