if Geohot come to android.
we wonnt wait for the 2.21 ROOT so long...
we wonnt depend on only one group to root.
if he come, our BUZZ will become more powerful and go past iphon4(jokes)

where did you find that he is coming ?
that he is going to work on unrevoked ?
From what I know heohot is now fighting with sony and possibly jumping in the Windows Phone 7 wagon.

I think Geohot has other problems at the moment!
Where did you get this informations?
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA App
Sorreh but who is this Geohot?
Look on Wikipedia
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA App
I am pretty sure even if Geohot does enter the Android Scene (Which seems extremely unlikely IMO, else he would have already), he wont concentrate his efforts on a low end model like the Wildfire.
As has been the case so far, he has always set his sights for the 'top'
Has anyone actually contacted geohotz through his website

Biggest problem is you could brick your device. The other is yes technically it does void your warranty but I have never heard of anyone being denied warranty exchanges on a root device.
It's always been my experience that bricks aren't likely. I've flashed quite a few things. Is it any more likely in this case?
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
If you can read then you won't have problem rooting. Everything is writing in steps. Unless you are a retard then don't try .
Hahaha I think I'll be alright. Other than almost dd'ing a hard drive the wrong way once I'm pretty astute. I'll probably root next week.

Anyone have favorites on roms, while we're at it.
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
Hey mate, if I can root anyone can, if u need help pm me. As roms go, u can't really go wrong. Iced and the DHD (desire hd) roms are much like what your running stock just with slightly improved graphics and other customizations. Miui is from another planet where android and ios had a baby, slick smooth and very dif from any other rom ive ever tried. I like it but its kinda like a plymouth prowler, kinda cool lookin but just not quick enough. Cm-6 is prolly the best and def the cleanest android experience. Ive had a couple issues with it but its still what im running.
Awesome reply srivers33 good info. I was leaning towards iced (seems pretty popular) I am looking for something more vanilla but def not a requirement. I might just flash a few and try them each for a little.

Backups
Always make sure u do a true perm root and use rom manager and its clockwork mod recovery to back up the stock. That way if stock 2.3 releases before a good 2.3 rom releases you can just flash and update to 2.3!!!
Thanks dont think I read that in any posts, its a good idea. Definitely sounds easier to go back
So, your opinion about
Will Android 2.3 be announced for the HTC Legend?
So. I ask the question and got the answer
from: HTC <[email protected]>
to: me
Yes, from time to time the software is being updated, and it will continue in the future. Unfortunetely now we can not say exact date of next update.

I'm willing to bet it won't happen. Why would HTC release a brand new iteration of the Android OS on older hardware? They've got very little to gain from doing so.
I used to think that it'll never happen, but with the announcement of the HTC Salsa, the facebook phone with the same specs of the Legend but with android 2.3 inside, now I hope that HTC make arrangements to adapt that version of HTC sense to the legends, maybe without the facebook things
That is my only hope against a company that make new phones so often. U.u

If anything it'll just make 2.3 Sense based ROMs easier to create for the Legend, really. I doubt much else will come of it.

I hope you know same "specs" in marketing materials probably means the hardware is way different and that someone would actually have to write drivers for 2.3 and Legend hardware...not gonna happen IMHO, not by hands of HTC anyway...

If I can overlook it, so can you.
For the record, it should be this:
Will Android 2.3 be announced for the HTC Legend?
Just imagine Yoda's voice when you read the original phrasing, and it's all good.
On topic: Looking forward to official 2.3 tomorrow!
Not even Yoda would say it like that
TGF: You're right about the title, what I meant was: "No, you're crazy?" Which for the record should be: "No, are you crazy?"
But don't mind me, I just felt in the mood
I think there will not be an 2.3 update
but i hope it will be
so. the only difference between newer HTC phones in the class the same like a Legend - it's ONLY RAM. Thats all.
Next point. Dev's guys from Google sais that the phone with official working (announced) of Android 2.2 phone FULLY will support Android 2.3, coz there is no hardware requirements MORE than in the FroYo. So...i feel this smell.. you no? We have all possibility for this... We can get it.
Why not? Maybe this process will be in a few times more than for Desire-like phones (1st gen.) But it CAN be. I'm a mistaken? Where?

Actually, its in the process of being done on the EVO, Its not final if it will work or start, but it was able to boot. Maybe at the End of the Summer, it may be available for the Evo, and it might get ported to the epic, but the chances are highly unlikely.

One of my favorite features of the HTC phones was the ability to dual-boot android or WinMO. The Touch Pro was awesome with this. Unfortunately HTC doesn't want to make a decent phone with a keyboard anymore, and nobody else likes WinMO.

We knew we could trust HTC, and in fact after the already announced devices a second round is ready to be unveiled and we can already tell you about it.
In fact, thanks to a reliable internal source, we received information about an April release of Android 4.0 with HTC Sense 3.5 for the HTC Desire S, Desire HD and Incredible S. The three devices will receive the new firmware on different days during the month, and will follow the upgrades of the Sensation family (confirmed for February) and the EVO 3D (early March).
Thanks HTC for being always ahead listening to its customers and updating the most devices and not just the top ones.
yeahhhhh!!!!
if you like it press thank you
ps.capy i saw your Thank you...please help us (no more off topic)
Thank you for the news. It's nice to know that our DHDs will continue to receive support from HTC. (Although I know our lovely devs are keeping the home fires burning!)
Maxy
nice! cant wait to see this release of ics. finally have some of the bigger issues/bugs worked out of the roms on xda with this, if the devs don't get to it first!
Not really suprising. Because every android phone should get at least one update in the future. If the take a look at Desire S, it shipped with gingerbread, and because of that it must get at least one update. And because more or less Incredible S or Desire hd hardware is identical, its easy to port to these phones too.
Maybe it's the last update, buy our dev's on xda are the best and we get all updates after the last one.

Timing is fine for me...
I see a lot of notes in recent app changelogs about fixing things for ICS - one thing is the ROM, but all the apps need to be stable too.
Pleased about the confirmation all the same.
so good for my dhd
like sense
thx
This is good news! I think this will give me enough updates until the end of this year, when I can pick a new phone Including working camera and stuff.

Shame about including sense.
Just makes it slower and with less memory available.
Get your costum ROM and that's it.
Why should HTC release an official ROM without "HTC" Sense?

So why you bought a sense device?

Nothing confirmed yet, but the future holds a very bright and good ending. Besides, i don't see any reasons why HTC wouldn't do this...considering they would only release 50k units of the HTC ONE Nexus.
This is definitely a win-win for both consumers and HTC.
Here's the article i just read: http://www.gsmarena.com/htc_might_release_aosp_rom_for_current_htc_one_owners-news-6132.php

It's not entirely a win-win. I read that in order for HTC to release such an update (providing AOSP to all normal HTC One owners), they have to go trough every carrier and other legal stuff. I don't remember where I read it and I don't remember exactly what the article said, but the conclusion I remember: it would cost HTC time & money (and stress, probably) to release an AOSP rom for current HTC One owners.
I hope they do it though. Would be awesome!
edit: Ah, I think I just remembered something. They have to go through every carrier because otherwise the AOSP Rom (update) would not be able to legally use the mobile networks of the carriers or something...
hopefully they'd be able to release an aosp rom for carrier unlocked phones without any legal ramifications.
do you think this will pave the way for future android phones to be released with stock android and the specific manufacturer apps (zoe, sense, touchwiz, etc) to be added as separate apps? this would surely cure the 'fragmentation' of android that iPhone users are always complaining about.
Sent from my HTC One using xda premium
It will not be an ota. It will prolly be an ruu, available for developer edition and maybe unlocked international versions. No carrier approval needed
When we have s-off anyone(gsm, anyway) should be able to flash it.
It's kind of neat, but not that big of a deal. You can always run cm if you want AOSP.
