I believe this is probably my first post. My first smart phone was a blackberry curve, then I got a Samsung Moment (horrible phone, but I came to love the android platform), then I got an HTC Evo. This has been the best phone I have ever experienced. I have rooted both android phones and have frequented SDX, android forums and here, I don't believe I have ever posted on any because I haven't had any problems that I couldn't figure out by reading more nor do I feel I have had any information that could have substantially helped anyone. I had recently read (I believe it may have been here but I couldn't find the thread) that if you had a upgrade available but didn't use it by April first and didn't qualify for Gold Premier then it would disappear, I couldn't believe it but had to check for myself, this is my transcript which I then called customer service to verify.

01/31/2011 09:14:55AM Redacted: "so my next question is that I currently have a $150 rebate available on my main line if I don't use that by April 1st will it disappear?"
01/31/2011 09:15:47AM Agent (Chris C): "Yes."

01/31/2011 09:20:55AM Redacted: "but I currently have an Evo and sprint does not have a better phone than that. I have been waiting for sprint to come out with a better phone than the evo to upgrade but since it has not even been announced yet I doubt it will happen before April 1st"

Sounds about right. A sprint rep said if you call in to retentions after it takes affect they will add it back to your account (just once though)
i am a little confused...
I thought that we still have at least 1 yr to use the benefit.
I thought it wound only affect the new accounts.
this sucks.

Did not get a letter either, but this was on the S/P location online:
You deserve to be recognized--and rewarded. It's how we choose to say "thank you."
As a Sprint Premier customer, you get unique perks you won't find anywhere else. From free gifts and discounts to the courtesy of a heads-up on new products and services, you get special treatment at no extra charge.
Check out the links on the left to see what's available to you.
Important updates beginning April 1
We want to keep you in the loop. Please note that, beginning April 1, we'll be updating our Sprint Premier rewards program to offer two levels of benefits: S|P Gold and S|P Silver. Learn more about program eligibility and details. http://premier.sprint.com/premierupdate/index.php
I know what the changes are already - it's been plastered all over the internet for the last 2+ weeks. Things become more concrete when they're in writing, and more so after 4/1. We'll all be testing out these retention theories

While I was online checking things out, a 'chat' rep came on and wanted to know if he could help....LOL! His first question...."Are you currently a Sprint Customer?" Wanted to just click the little X, but played with him for a little bit....glad I didn't really need any information.
Nothing here either.

Nope, I talked to retentions, and the "hidden" corporate number. There is nothing they can do about this. This change came from the powers that be above everyone, and NO rep has the power to change this.

Wow thats bogus business. Talk about bait and switch.
I'm just hoping sprint comes out with an android phone I can't live without before april first or I will start looking at other carriers.

This is hopefully going to hurt Sprint a bit.
My wife and I activated our EVOs on 30 Dec and it was exactly this perk that tipped the scales for me. I love getting new phones and the chance to upgrade every year was a HUGE incentive to me. Now I will ride out this contract and be a free agent again. A free agent that will still feel rather scorned by this move.
I hope that Sprint has some execs that drop by this board every once in a while so that they can see how much of a bad taste this is going to leave in the mouths of the customers that they claim to adore.
This is what I had been saying but was told I was lying...
Glad to see people are learning this for themselves.

Wow! This is ridiculous...
I've contacted Sprint and plan to travel my way up the corporate ladder until I can express my concerns to someone who actually cares. This is a very bad business move for Sprint and will likely lead to me switching carriers.
Perhaps, if we can round up enough people, if we all express our concerns in regards to this change Sprint may consider revising this change. You never know... It's worth a shot.

Yeah, been that way for a couple months now
I had it, now I dont see it on mine when I sign on... I called Tmo the other day for my G1 acting up and it asked if I wanted to do it and I said later. Is it still in affect?
Ended up not being cheaper for me.
Seems like every time T-mobile offers an upgrade, it cost me an extra 10 bucks. I guess if I didn't have myfaves for both phones, then it would prolly be in my best interest to have it.

not true...i've been in good standing with t-mo for 7 years+. when i called last month to inquire, they said it was only open to "select" customers...even today, when i log onto the website, the unlimited plan still shows $99.99. wtf?? i have been with these fools since 2001!
i've sent an email to t-mo just now. i'll advise as soon as i hear back.

I work in a store and have run into this issue. I thought it was people who have been with us for 22 months or more but I guess there are some hidden factors there. The only thing I can think of is if you had your service suspended. Other than that I can't think of anything else that would effect it.

i don't think my service has been suspended any time in the past 4+ years...i'm wondering if it's because i don't ever use anywhere near my current plan's 1500 minutes.
here's the log of my chat session with T-Mo CS:
me: can you tell me why i don't qualify for the "unlimited loyalty" plan? i have been with t-mobile for nearly 8 years.
CSR: Today, this offer is available only to selected customers.
CSR: T-Mobile runs promotional offers and test offers that are available to different groups of customers, and at this time, your account does not qualify.
CSR: In the future, your account may be eligible for similar type offers. For some of our test offers, whether or not we extend these offers beyond the initial qualified group depends on response from our customers.
CSR: The exact criteria used for the promotion is not available as many different pieces of criteria were considered when selecting the specific audience available for this promotion.
me: so there are no specifics as to why i don't qualify after more than 7 years as a t-mobile customer?
CSR: This is a promotional offer only available for a short time
CSR: Based on the response to this offer, we hope to extend it to a wider audience in the future.
me: thank you for your help.

i did change my number, but it was 5 years ago when i moved to california. i just edited my previous message to add the chat session i had with a csr. it seems qualification is random...like i said, i go nowhere near my plan minutes now (1500 for $49.99) so i'm not really missing out on anything...it's just...if they're gonna reward people for their "loyalty", i certainly want to be recognized for my 80 months of loyalty!!

My understanding is that this is the unlimited Loyalty plan is not available to business/corporate lines (which is what your account is if you are getting a discount through your employer.) It is somewhat hard to get positive confirmation of this though. The eligibility requirements on the web are vague. I have been w/ T-Mobile since 2001 and I was offered the option.

ahh...that makes sense...in january my company sent an email to all associates telling us we can receive a 10% discount on our t-mo bill. i called and gave the CSR the code. i bet they then switched me to a corporate account.
things are getting clearer...but why couldn't the CSR tell me that today?
sounds like they were just giving you a standard response without even really looking at your account.

I feel the same way. I like the idea of having unlimited minutes but I have more than enough with myfaves and my 600 minutes right now. I almost never touch the 600 in a month with Nights and weekends on there.
I think, if you believe i'm so "loyal" and you want to offer me a "deal" make it something cheaper than what I already use.

finally, a "non standard" response. i received an email today telling me that i do, in fact, qualify for the unlimited loyalty plan, but i would lose my corporate discount. then the CSR said she reviewed my usage and recommended that i stay at my current plan. she told me that i'd save $10.70/mo if i do NOT switch.
Cathy H 7284060, at t-mo, if you are reading this, you rock.
I currently qualify for a Sprint Premier Upgrade ($150 off, etc). I bought my EVO unsubsidized (quite expensive), so I don't really have any reason to be using my upgrade at this time. I don't really care for the Epic or the Evo Shift.
This April 1st change to Premier status as me worried. I'll be downgraded to silver. That's fine, I'm ok with only getting a GOOD deal on upgrades every 2 years, every other company is like that. BUT! I currently qualify for an upgrade now. Will I lose the ability to use this come April 1st?
I know it's not a HUGE deal if that happens, my two years will come around in October (I bought a launch HERO, so I'm "upgrading" from that). Still though, I could use my upgrade to grab a new phone now, and sell it and recoup a ton of what I paid for my unsubsidized EVO. But if I can wait until summer to use my upgrade, I'd like to see what comes out. I'd like to be the first kid on my block with a new fangled whatever using my upgrade.
I don't think they'll take it from you but anything can happen.

When I called I specifically asked the rep "If I'm due for upgrade in June will I lose it?" and she said "no". She said she would note my account and that she would send me an email confirmation.
I've never received an email confirmation from a rep since actively being on Sprint. I have to call again this week and get something in writing.
I would say yes since you're grandfathered in but only they can tell you what their policy states.
Just posted on Phandroid
[Update] Sprint Premier Program is Not Going Away, Just Adding a New Tier Starting April 1st
Read on for Sprint’s official statement on the matter.
Sprint is updating the program for 2011 with two tiers of benefits, Sprint Premier Silver and Sprint Premier Gold, making sure that Sprint Premier Silver retains the benefits that were popular with the most customers. Effective 4/1/11:
Sprint Premier Gold customers must only meet ONE of the following three qualifications:
· Individual plans with a 3-month average MRC** of at least $89.99, or
· Shared plans with a 3-month average MRC** of at least $169.99 MRC, or
· Tenure of 10+ years with Sprint
Sprint Premier Silver customers must only meet ONE of the following two qualifications:
· Individual plans with a 3-month average MRC** of $69.99 – $89.98, or
· Shared plans with a 3-month average MRC** of $99.99 – $169.98
Once Sprint Premier Silver customers reach 10 years service with Sprint, they automatically are graduated to Sprint Premier Gold status regardless of the plan they are on.
** 3-month average MRC is based on voice plans only, not including add-on services, and is figured before any discounts are applied.
In addition to the change noted above, it’s important to highlight that both Sprint Premier Gold and Silver customers will continue to receive all the other perks: discounts on accessories, proactive plan checks and just because offers; device credits that are among the best in the industry; and exclusive extras like Premier Community, anniversary rewards and first to know.
Sprint Premier remains one of the best customer loyalty programs in the wireless industry. When compared to other national carriers, the Sprint Premier package of benefits far outranks any rewards program currently offered.

I just called and the rep had no idea what I was talking about when I mentioned the changes. He did tell me that, either way, I should at least get 1 12 month upgrade, which is due in July, before I have to wait for 22 months on the Silver plan.
I know a lot of people are going to jump on the ditch Sprint bandwagon because of this BUT we all need to look at one thing. Verizon just dumped their renewal program all together and AT&T won't be far behind... At least Sprint is still offering an early renewal even if the did tighten their belts a little on the qualifications...

I called sprint to see what my contract start date once I heard about the new Premier requirements. I knew I've been a customer for over ten years but they had my start date as May 2002. I questions them about it since I knew I've been a customer since early 2000. I ended up finding out that they changes my contract date when I applied a corporate discount back in May of 2002. For some reason in order to receive the discount they had to put me on the same billing cycle as my corporation which messed everything. I had the issue escalated and they were able to research and find my original contract in 2000. Wow something actually when my way! Anyway they have made comments on my file that will allow me to receive the Gold status because of my 10 year tenure. Very happy about this.
I feel bad for the people that had previous accounts with Nextel and are not eligible for the Gold status. I mean 10 years with one celluar carrier is a really long time. Especially when you consider that mainstream cellular phone use wasn't the norm much more than 10 years ago.
I'll have to make sure to follow up in April when the new policy becomes effective. Hopefully they'll stand by their word and give me the Gold Status that they promised me.
Woot, my 10 yrs is April 14th, just talked to confirmed with CS that I'll be golden...

I think all those affected should be writing the BBB and state's attorney's office. This is very indicative of a bait and switch. Please don't say this is a perk and is subject to changes. It's a perk that's used to sell the service/company, then the co does a switch in terms so the customer no longer qualifies. You were baited, and then terms were switched. I think with some pressure, sprint will honor this for one more annual upgrade.

Yeah, that's one way, the other way is to force roam, then wait a few months for them to cancel you, hopefully with ETFs.
I'd actually like to jump sprint at this point...their 3g is suckass lately. Lucky to get 200 down anymore in Idaho; 4G is barely 1 down, when you have signal (we have clear locally, and it gets 5 down)...Sprint is horrible. I wanna go back to att or tmo. ;(
We switched to sprint because they were cheapest/had discounts/yearly perks, but the discounts dropped to 2 lines and now the yearly upgrades are gone, so there's no point to stay with sprint anymore.
ESPECIALLY since ATT just introduced ANY MOBILE UNLIMITED today!
Earlier in the year I called sprint to complain about the switch of there premier program. I was told then that since I wouldn't be eligible till September I should wait till closer to then so they could give me my override. Well,I just called and the representative informed me that sprint only handed out overrides during June and july. So for all those who like me was looking forward to some android greatness this fall, better luck next year!

I think you have a limited amount of time before you accept the "material adverse change" to your contract by default. The change being no more yearly upgrades. Two months sounds right, the reset is kinda like a retention offer so you won't cancel. You could have canceled without etf I think.

Sounds to me like you talked to the wrong person. The last thing Sprint wants is a loss of another customer, you could pretty much get just about anything you want, only if it's reasonable.. I'm not saying they will give you a new phone every other month but if it was me & I was in your shoes I'd call back and talk to the person that actually "can" make things happen as opposed to some rep steaming through phone calls so she can go home. I think you have a limited amount of time before you accept the "material adverse change" to your contract by default. The change being no more yearly upgrades. Two months sounds right, the reset is kinda like a retention offer so you won't cancel. You could have canceled without etf I think.

That's a perk not part of the contract.

It's not a perk if its used as a selling point. Sprint used the yearly upgrade as a selling point untill the day before the change happened. ANYONE WHO PURCHASED B4 THE CHANGE DATE SHOULD BE ENTITLED TO A OVERRIDE NO QUESTIONS ASKED. Other carriers like att and verizon grandfather existing customers in so this type of stuff does not happen. Also now sprint is charge extra after sep 9th and its for every customer. Sprint must hate existing customers!!!!!! that would be the only explanation for this....

PS: It is a perk. We already had this debate before. It does not qualify you to get out ETF-free.

I agree. Especially since Verizon came out with the iphone...I know tons of people that switched over. Sprint does NOT want to lose any more customers. Try calling again. Good luck.
I called in July to see if they'd give me one of those "one time only" upgrade overrides. They told me that they couldn't but what they did do was let me buy an upgrade on one of the lines on my account. It cost me 75.00 but I was able to finally throw my son's crappy Intercept in the garbage and get him a Slide (I tried talking him into the 3d but he's 14 and insisted on a keyboard).
It wasn't the solution that I was hoping for but it was better than nothing.

I called in early June (bought Evo August 2010) and asked for the upgrade. The rep told me to call back in late July (closer to the 1yr mark) and they would override my upgrade. I did that, and this representative told me that they were no longer offering the deal, that it ended in July. I told him that this made me mad because the yearly upgrade was the *only* reason I switched to sprint (this is partially true). He insisted that there was nothing he could do, so I hung up and went to play basketball.
When I finished, I had a voicemail waiting for me from the same rep, telling me that he went ahead and gave me the upgrade as a "one-time courtesy"
You just gotta get lucky with a nice representative.
I can tell you guys no overrides are being done right now, not even buy ups for $75 or less. Again, too many people took advantage.

I have had an exhausting morning trying to figure this out. I posted a few times in the Epic Touch prices thread but am not getting any answers. I want to upgrade the phone on my wife's line on our family plan and switch it to my line (I really want the epic touch and she wants my epic). I've spoken with 2 chat representatives and 2 phone reps. Both chat reps said the phone must remain active on the line it was upgraded on for 6 months. I asked them if they just meant the services, and they said "no" the phone itself. After chat session 1 I called in. Representative said it was ok as long as any service add-ons remained active for 6mo. I washed and repeated the whole process and came up with the same answers from another chat rep and another phone rep. Chat no, phone yes. Does anyone have experience doing this at Letstalk?
I think I found my answer. After multiple calls, I got confirmation over the phone that it is not possible to switch the phone following an upgrade to a different line. 3 sales representatives said it could be done as long as the services remained active. I asked for someone who could give me written confirmation and she stated that it was not possible within the first six months. I stated and restated several scenarios (wife doesn't like phone, gets broken no insurance then fixed, etc) and she said they would all be subject to a Equipment Subsidy Fee of $250. I hope not many of you were planning on doing this like I was. I guess it is Best Buy or RadioShack for me. Wonder if I will have to pay 200(+36 for activation) vs. 124. Damn it.
If you read LetsTalks terms and conditions to their discounts, it says that switching lines and what not "Does not apply to Sprint plans" Answer your question? Ill find it again in just a sec.
Edit -
Copied from LetsTalks website.
*Please note: the following provisions regarding deactivation, equipment swapping and account termination DO NOT apply to Sprint purchases, even where stated otherwise.
*Failure to maintain service for 181 days may subject the purchaser to a deactivation charge equal to the difference in price paid for the phone and the price of the phone if purchased without contract, if such action results in the loss of carrier commissions by LetsTalk.com.
*All of the above stipulations are solely in the interests of ensuring that LetsTalk.com earn an expected commission from Sprint, it is this commission which is allowing LetsTalk.com to offer this discount.
Seriously I love you man. This community is great. One sales representative even said it does not apply to sprint plans. I saved the T&C and will go reread them. I will go ahead and place my order then. I thought I read that whole thing. Thanks again.

I answered you in other thread too. I do remember the service rep stating something about it being ok because I am on sprint. She said no way if I was on verizon or tmobile.

Just read your reply, thanks
The CS Rep I talked to on the phone said that it doesn't apply to Sprint and that I could do it.
I had 3 reps on phone confirm it was possible. 1 phone and 3 chat reps said it wasn't. This is even after I showed them the wording "provisions DO NOT apply to Sprint purchases". We might have a class action if they charge us all 250. jk
Can you switch lines even if your not on a family plan, could I use my girlfriend upgrade and switch phones, she's on a family plan and I'm on a indivual plan?
