[Q] Phone options from the dailer? - EVO 4G General

I had an old Samsung Instinct (thank God I switched) and had messed with some of my settings to get video streaming working better. With the Evo 4G, I've noticed that the same options appear to be available, dailing ##DATA# brings up options to either view or (if you know your MSL) edit data options. I've also seen that ##RTN# brings up what appears to be phone statistics, like lifetime data send/receive, lifetime phone calls/time, activation date, stuff like that.
I don't know what all there is to do with these settings besides maybe a couple tweaks, but has anyone messed around to see what all there is with these?

T-mobile Customizations

What will I be missing If I stop the T-Mobile Customization from going through? What will I gain? I feel there are things missing or Hidden after the customization. Also, how do I do this sucessfully?
well im a newbie here but i can tell you that you gain an icon on your home screen that loks like a pda, and when you tap it your screen goes in to landscape mode, tap it again and it stays in landscape but changes orientation, tap it again and it goes back to normal. i personally like this feature alot it's very useful when you're playing a game or browsing the internet because you no longer have to slide the keyboard open. aside from that i don't think i don't really see any changes, but someone on this forum probably knows better than i. they way i did it was i pulled the battery right after you finish calibrating the screen and it asks you to tap again to continue.
You're not goin to miss much, but you'll gain alot like a boost in storage memory and a little boost in RAM. You won't have E-Mail Wizard, Oz IM, WinWap, T-Mobile Hotspot Login, and another program but you can move them to storage card and run them from there before you do the trick anyways. As for the trick itself all you have to do is a hard reset, then after you configured the screen and created (or not) a passcode, a screen comes up to Tap Screen to finish. Have you're stylus ready to soft reset at this point. Tap the screen and the default WM6 screen loads up along with a popup saying that it will finish customizing in 3 seconds. Soft reset before the 3 seconds are up and you my friend have a friendlier, healthier T-Mobile Wing. Just don't forget to feed it some healthy .cabs and if you're daring enough some registry tweaks. Enjoy!
i think the only thing i am afraid of losing is Voice Command and transcribe (yes I am the one who uses it. I never have a pen or paper handy). also really really want to try the Wing rom with touch.. wondering just how daring I really am.
Don't worry, you won't lose either of them as they're both WM6 apps. All you lose is a bunch of T-Mo junk, that's all.

I just hard reset last night and rebooted before the TMO customizations. One thing I noticed missing on the Today screen is an option for TMO ONS which displays Bluetooth & WiFi status. I was unable to get it added, but I assume it's either a registry change or a simple install.
Just to clear something up
If I do this trick I wont have access to the email program and IM? I have to save it onto the card?
if the wing functions like the mda, you just need total commander...run the program and change the directory to \extended_rom ...you need to type it in...and from there, just copy the cab files for the oz messenger over to your storage card. (or you can just do the whole soft reset thing and you should be able to run the cab from the extended rom).

The standard Dialer is driving me MAD

Opening the phone interface there are a number of numbers visible that I've recently dialed.
Some numbers even show what type of number (car, mobile, home work) was dialed by using "<c>" as in indicator.
Intuitive I press and hold one of the last dialed numbers, hoping for an option menu, but nothing happens, only to have this number dialed on release.
This must be a nuiscance to more people than just me.
Is there a solution, or even a better dialer program, so I can exchange this one?
you know how the <txt> or w/e is surrounded by left/right arrows/brackets (<>)? That's to indicate you can swipe your finger (left or right) to cycle through the different options (much better and easier implementation than 'holding' down for the change I think).
Hope it helps
I agree. the standard dialer drove me mad as well. Almost returned the device.
It was especially annoying, because I borrowed a WiMo from a friend first, and I liked the dialer.
The solution: Disable the phone skin, go back to the WiMo dailer.
Many utilities can do this, amoung others: Advanced Config V3.3, HD Tweak, etc. Just disable the phone skin.

just in case: the wm6.1 standard dialer makes you lose the bt status icon in the top bar as well as the in-call volume-control! (but there is a somewhere a thread with a cab to fix that last issue)

Are you sure? Because I they are both still working for me, and I do not recall having to fix it?
The only thing that is missing for me is Video-Calling, though it can still be done from the menu.

strange... for me these two things are the side-effect of going back to the wm6.1 standard dialer, and other users (in another post somewhere) have confirmed that... so just feel lucky that that did't happen to you (but you are sure that you don't have these issues? when bluetooth is switched on, you still get an icon in the top bar, and when you make a call, you can change the volume of the 'person on the other side' with the volume keys (not system or ring volume)?)... so, just feel lucky, no idea why some people have it, some people don't... it's just a warning, but worth a try anyway, as the setting can easily be changed back....
regards jan
In retrospect, you are probably right.
I do have a "bluetooth" icon in my WiMo dialer, but it is in fact my headset icon, probably not the icon you refer to. And in fact, the headset is the one I want, so I do not care about any more base-bluetooth icon
And I rarely set set the volume, but when, I do that by the via the headset also, which also works....

Can i explore phone without activating first?

Hey guys
Just received my Incredible finally, was wondering if I can mess with the phone without activating it first.
It starts with a setup phone thingy, and 2nd option is to activate, but no option to not. any ideas?
I really wanna mess with phone b4 I activate it, as I use my old phone (omnia) to get online still whilst I was testing the phone defaults....
Is there like a way I can skip the setup for now, and come back to it later?
Thanks
I was having trouble with activation on my phone, and after a few failed attempts it let me through to the next step. Try starting activation and hanging up a few times and see if that works. Then to get back you can just dial the activation number, which is *228 I think (you should probably check first, don't quote me on that).
Yes, you can play around with the phone before you activate it, I did it with both my Eris & Droid. When you are on the activation screen(the one with the Droid on it) just press down on all 4 corners starting with the top left. Do a google search, there are a few guides with pics that show exactly where to press.
I was able to explore the phone by hitting the search button, and jumping to settings, or the internet. I dont think it let me to the homescreen like that though.
i'm familure with the android screen and skip method with four corners, i do not recall being able to get to that screen on the htc inc, i belive the actvation was chagned, you can bypass it thou, do the emergence call button then enter the code for manual programing and programm nam1 cdma info with fake number like 000-000-0000 then commit the change and it will restart and go to the homescreen but the phone wont work of corse, and you can view all the menus, *tada*
edit: i believe the code i used was ##778 > call > service password is "000000"

[Q] Telus Hidden Menus

Just to start. Yes I have exhausted my search before asking. I am looking to improve call quality by switching to EVRC B. However using
Tried: **772
SPC code 000000
The bottom of the screen will have buttons that are directional like a d-pad.
Tried: Go into the Dialer and enter *#83786633 then press the Home key
Go back into the phone dialer and enter *#22745927
Now a box will come up asking for the SPC code. Enter 000000
Press the Hidden menu Enable radio button.
I am erasing the first entry before entering the second and im not pressing send..... the spc box never pops up for either
However I can get into testing and long shut down button enabled menus, however I can't get into gps testing (mine works fine) or others.
All I want is to switch to evrc b and volume controls to see if it helps. There has to be a difference between the verizon and telus code dialers.
Any help is much appreciated!, love the phone, but it should be a phone first everything else second not the other way around.
Phone is a telus fascinate, not rooted.
no one on telus?
Are you on 2.2? I noticed that on 2.2 some of the "secret codes" don't seem to work and just give you a blank screen. However try installing SGS Tools. The dev pulled the app from the market because he doesn't have time to fix all the bugs, but the secret codes when launched from this app work for on my phone. You can get the last version on this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=775154
I am on 2.2, I can access some codes but not all I can never get the spc box to pop up but let me try this! I was starting to get frustrated.
non rooted I must add
Well, unless im missing something there is no vocoder option. I have been able to get into most this stuff using codes but not vocoder

Keyboard settings changed.

Hey guys. I recently had an update come through to improve the performance of my S5.
After the update the performance seems better but something has changed in the keyboard and I'm stuffed if I can figure out how to get it back how I like.
Originally I had it set on swipe predictive text. It would automatically put a space in after a swipe but also offer words similar to what I swiped. Which was great because I get lazy and don't hit all right spots.
Currently it works well but instead of offering similar words it offers options for my next word which is a pain if I get the word wrong.
Anyone else had this change?
I downloaded the Google keyboard. All good now.
