Hey guys. I recently had an update come through to improve the performance of my S5.
After the update the performance seems better but something has changed in the keyboard and I'm stuffed if I can figure out how to get it back how I like.
Originally I had it set on swipe predictive text. It would automatically put a space in after a swipe but also offer words similar to what I swiped. Which was great because I get lazy and don't hit all right spots.
Currently it works well but instead of offering similar words it offers options for my next word which is a pain if I get the word wrong.
Anyone else had this change?
I downloaded the Google keyboard. All good now.

So i got an email yesterday from swype saying that they had a new update. I have used swype religiously for months now and loved it so I was happy to see an update..
WOW.. its HORRIBLE. literally 90% of the words i try to type are wrong! Anyone else using it and hate the update yet?
I have had the same issues, however this is a fresh install which means swype needs to relearn what words you use most often and the context in which you use them. I believe all you have to do is type a word (not swype it) them press space to add it to the dictionary. I've ben doing this with like nicknames and slang words I use most often and my swyper its already performing much better. Do I have those right, anyone?
Yeah I've noticed that the accuracy for the way I type has gone way down in the new version. Was a much better typer on the older version.
Guys, try moving the slider bar in the swype settings screen that controls accuracy vs speed. Makes a HUGE difference.

Guaranteed they didn't do this
The default setting is all the way to the left in that setting "speed vs accuracy" so.... most of your words are incorrect to compensate for speed

I did try adjusting it, but they must have tweaked the slider and it needs to be moved way over towards accuracy to be similar to the last beta.
i have adjusted the bar and still hate it. and its not slang/nickname type stuff its simple words! I know it has to "learn" you but before i loved it even with a fresh install. I need to find an old version and put it back on there. I also hate how when you do type it doesnt actually input the word until word is complete. Lots of things.. i just hate it
i used swype for a good couple of months and have just started using swift key beta again. IMO it has the best speed to accuracy ratio.
Are you guys using the one with the microphone on the keyboard? What version are you using?
Old swype...
1.60.38.8214
Got it from a link here somewhere a month out do ago...
All of the common words that I and most people use are always "hidden words". It really pisses me off how it pops up 3 - 5 times every texts. I'm going back to the iPhone next time around.
I'm pretty sure the biggest problem with swype is that the corrections you make to words (i.e...replacing the second half of a word that was half right) adds that letter combination to your library. I hate the 3-5 letter nonsense words that hide the real words I'm going for. Yeah...that hidden word window really sucks, and honestly should just go away.
I have my bar all the way to the accuracy side and still it is very inaccurate, never had these issues before. If i swype 'you' it gives me 'tutu' 80% of the time when the line never touches t

This happens to me all the time. Even if you turn off the Tip Indicator, go through the entire tutorial, it still pops up this stupid freaking message every other word. It is driving me nuts and I'm uninstalling Swype since there is no way to turn this off.
It's working fine for me, and I use both the English AND Spanish dictionary's. Haven't really noticed any difference between this version and the last.
My only complaint is, the new Samsung comes with Swype installed, and it has the microphone key - why doesn't this "update" have it?
I think they added to many new weiss - I keep making mustards. I want the old swype back!
Typed that in swype then had to edit -

I could never get Swype to work well for me...regardless of the settings...

+1. Swype never did it for me...
Hi all, my first post on here. I picked up my S4 last Friday (UK on Vodafone) and I've been loving it ever since, its a massive step forwards from my old HTC Desire.
Anyway, the only thing that's really bugging me so far is the stock keyboard auto-correct. I've got it set-up to auto-correct when I hit the space bar but I'm running into a problem, I'm typing too fast for the keyboard. For example I type "the" and hit space, yet auto-correct is still offering me "th" as it hasn't caught up so instead of "the" I get it auto-corrected to "th". If I slow down a little it works fine but this is missing the point.
I know I can switch the keyboard so SwiftKey, which I had on the HTC, but before I do that I wondered if there's a way to speed up the auto-correct?
can you tell me how you set it up to auto correct?
i came from the htc one and really liked the keyboard and the fact that it would auto correct most things but i find with the s4 that it gives me the a correct spelling of the word in blue above the keys but does not seem to insert it into the text ive written.
thanks
Yeah where's this option

Settings, Language and Input, Samsung keyboard settings, enable Predictive Text then pick the Autoreplacement option
A mate has just tried using the "swipe" like input method on his S4, it makes the auto-correct lag issue look simple. Its so bad that its effectively unusable for quick text entry!
I've found it sometimes to be SLOW. as in , i type a whole word like KEYBOARD, and the predictive text didn't keep up and it replaced my word with "."
then sometimes, i've found the keyboard to be super QUICK!. not sure what the hell is going on.
This sounds like a bug. how do we notify samsung?
clearing the customized learning makes it REALLY QUICK, but then you lose your common words.
even you type a word in like KEYBOARD carefully and slowly it will replace it with its default word...
stupid really. if i typed it in slower and careful, i dont want it to be replaced.

Yeah, I'm back on SwiftKey now and its much faster. But I like the Samsung keyboard, specifically having the numbers as separate keys above the QWERTY 'board. Oh well, I guess I'll have to see if the software update has made any difference

I have no autoreplacement option. AT&T SGS4.
im using the stock samsung keyboard on my att s4 for texting inside google hangouts. i got the autocorrect feture a while back where it gives the sweeping replacement arrow on the left of the suggestions box then the two other suggested words on the center and right boxes, one day the arrow disappeared and the whole system acted more like the apple set up and i had three suggestions words and no arrow and the spacebar would auto replace with a spelling correction. now out of nowhere it has switched back to the sweeping arrow again. what am i missing here? i liked the three word setup much more. is this a setting im missing somehow of what??? or some sort of updated happening behind the scenes??
AT&T Galaxy i337 S4 MK2 rooted.
Did not like the original samsung s4 keyboard but that is my own thought as I was so used to using the Google Keyboard on Nexus 4
I currently use the SwiftKey beta keyboard app for my S4 and it working great
Before that I had the Google Keyboard which you can download from Playstore and give it a try
hey thanks for the reply, and sorry im so late getting back. thanks for the tip on the different keyboards. ive tried the google keyboard which i really like the simplicity of but i really like the dedicated number row on the stock s4 board. ive also tried the swift beta and its so close to perfect but ive really gotten used to the long press punctuation on the s4 also. i also dont care for the way i have to swype for the question mark on the swift beta keyboard.
my original question is a wierd one though and i dont think i asked it well. i think my issue is more with the auto correct feature than they keyboard. there is an arrow that shows up to dismiss the autocorrected word. that disappeared for a while and then it came back. i kinda liked the three word replacement better than the two words and the arrow. i was just curious why it switched and then switched back. and if i could choose it somehow.
Since updating to Nougat, I can't find a way to change my default keyboard. I've gone to Language and Input - > Virtual Keyboard but after that, selecting a keyboard doesn't switch to it. Where is the setting to specify the default keyboard?

Thanks for the link. Unfortunately, none of the suggestions worked. Makes me think the keyboards are not Nougat compatible yet, at least with switching your keyboards.
The only way I can make this work is to go to Settings->Language and Input->Virtual Keyboard->Manage Keyboards
From there, I have to set all the keyboards off that I DON'T want to us. Very aggravating but it's the only way it works. Before, there was an menu that displayed what the current keyboard is, and selecting it would give you a Choose Keyboard menu where you could change the default keyboard. That is gone now under Nougat.
SwiftKey is the ONLY keyboard that actually senses when you haven't set it yet, and it will pop up the Choose Keyboard option. GBoard and the Samsung default keyboard do NOT do this at all. Guess that's why I continue to stick with SwiftKey. I only download GBoard to see what the latest updates were like. Still not completely impressed. The only saving grace the GBoard and Samsung keyboard is the ability to move the cursor. In GBoard, it's swiping across the spacebar, and with Samsung, it's swiping left or right across the keyboard itself. I know SwiftKey has the arrow keys, but they place them in the worst spot: right below the spacebar. I am constantly hitting them when I mean to tap the spacebar, so I turn them off.
I found that Samsung has a thread in their forums for discussing issues people are having with the update and they are apparently monitoring it continuously. I also contacted Samsung support via Facebook Messenger and they have noted the issue and also referred me to the same thread. Not too bad as far as response and assistance. Pretty pleased with that. Just hope they fix this issue. Sounds like it's an issue with how they have modified the stock Android Nougat settings. There should be a gear icon next to each keyboard in the Language and Input->Virtual keyboard section, but there isn't. Hopefully, they'll fix this with a later OTA update.
Here's the link to their thread for reporting issues with the latest Nougat update:

Well this stinks for alot of people, hope to see it fixed soon! I had forgotten about Perfect Keyboard Pro having the same type of instructional screen when it installs. It gave me the ability to bring up the switch keyboard screen!
Finally figured out how to quickly switch between keyboards. When your keyboard is up, just swipe down in your notifications area to bring up the notifications section. In it, you should see a notification from Android System stating Switch keyboard. Select that notification and you will be able to easily switch to another keyboard.
Too bad that wasn't documented by Samsung, but at least you don't have to go to Settings->Language and input->Virtual keyboard->Manage keyboards and then have to manually shut off all the keyboards you don't want to use in order to enable the one you want to use.
The other day, I came home to discover my Nexus Player had updated itself to Android 8 (without my consent, of course). Now I find that I no longer have an on-screen keyboard. When I try to type something, it prompts me to "Use the keyboard on your mobile device." Even if I connect using the Android TV remote app from my phone, I still can't type. Directional buttons work, but typing into my phone's keyboard does nothing.
I have checked Settings > Keyboard > Manage keyboards, which shows toggle switches for Gboard (disabled) and Virtual Remote Keyboard (enabled), however they are both greyed out and I cannot change the toggles or do anything. If I go to "Current keyboard," it's completely blank.
Any clue what might be going on here? This is extremely frustrating. I never wanted to upgrade to Oreo in the first place, because I didn't want to lose app switching support. Now I feel like I'm going to have to waste my time downgrading to 7.1.2. Thanks a lot, Google!
same exact issue. doesn't seem to be too common though. I have tried everything I can think of to fix it with no luck. I hope someone with a little more knowledge than myself can help me out here. I am two seconds away from buying a new set top box. I hope the final build looks nothing like the beta I was running awhile back, or i'll have to find another system all together. wish they would spend a little more time making sure there are no bugs but hell, i'll be happy if someone here can help in the mean time.
Enable korean/any other language input in settings. Itll come back
