I just got 2.1.A.0.435 - XPERIA X10 General

i got it from Rogers
I thought it was the much anticipated 2.0.A.0.24 but no, now we are ahead. Let me describe what you can expect from this update:
1. phone is not wiped, but root and xrecovery are gone
2. loaded with more sony junk
3. you can still root it XDXDXD with the flashtool
4. feels smoother? i dunno
5. official multitouch!!! feels better than the bin4ry one
lol thats what i can observe from this build, need more info? just ask, ill try to find out and tell u

Theres already a thread going on this...but its pretty cool that rogers actually released it that fast.

I'm on Rogers (not rooted) and I have not received this update yet. I have tried both the PC Compansion software and the Sony Update Service.
How did you get this?

X10a or X10i? Baseband version?

as khanem sad use update and you will have all data in your phone after that.i did the same and everything was as it was before
i updated the phone from 14 to 26 today..
i was expecting it to wipe ol the data, account information etc..
but to my surprise, it didnot touch a thing..the phone remained the same as it was before the update(wallpaper, settings, data etc) apart from major touch screen improvements, fluidity etc..
On another thought, I gonna upgrade later when its more stable. Looking at the Root/upgrade thread there seems to be alot of problems with it.
I've just checked for an update and SEPCC said there was an update (I was on 024) so I backed up using the SE backup app and used Astro file manager to backup most of my apps.
HTH
oh n btw after update I'm still on 024
may try the repair function to see if I get the 026
Don't do that... Download seus and use that..
Sent from my x10 using XDA and swype.
When I tried to update my X10i that I de-branded using Omnius to R1FA016 UK Generic and then OTA to R2BA020, my phone OTA told me to use a PC to update so when I tried this SEUS told me I had the latest update but I only had R2BA020. So I did a Repair using SEUS and then tried an update and again it told me I had the latest update. When I looked in "about phone" I had R2BA026 so the repair must have upgraded at the same time.
I'm no expert, only now learning this stuff but just my experience.
Now to make things worse I lost all my apps when doing the repair, I had backed them up using ASTRO but some were "Private" and could not be backed up. When it came to re-downloading these apps (Tapatalk Pro, Astro keycode(add free) etc.) they were not on the market at all, no matter what I tried I could not find them and I've been trying all day. So I come home from work and decided to flash my X10 back to R1FA016 and those missing apps are back on the market?
Anybody care to help me out here? A FW 026 issue? What should I do, don't want to update to 026 and loose my paid for apps again but the phone was def better with the 020 update?
Help!

People are having troubles with the rooting, but the firmware is pretty solid. Only issue I know of with it is the old WiFi bug:

Best Rooting Method

So since as if we have already been abandoned by the Gingerbreak Project, what can you guys recommend to root my R800i without removing the ability to update the phone to higher Android in the coming months?
So you see I am really new to Android and I have little knowledge on unlocking bootloaders and the like that's why I stuck to Gingerbreak last month. Now that I have updated to 2.3.3, yeah everybody knows Gingerbreak no longer works.
I cannot consider reverting back to 2.3.2 since the 2.3.3 update really improved the battery performance and I'd still choose that over the ability to root on the 2.3.2. But then, bottom line is we really love our phones rooted.
So to cut the crap, anyone please recommend the best method to root the R800i (I would be open for tutorials) whilst preserving our ability to update to better versions in the future?
Ive not rooted or unlocked the boot loader yet myself as this is my first android device im taking it slowly but according to threads in the development section you can root and upgrade as long as you do nothing to the device before upgrading, root the phone then upgrade to 2.3.3
This means flashing backwards first obviously.
As far as upgrading in the future you will be better off flashing a custom rom if development goes well. Custom roms will take this device further than official updates will.

See here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1116090. Follow the steps and you shall have root on 2.3.3 . I have also opted to "freeze" the bloat this time instead of just uninstalling it, in hopes that when 2.3.4 arrives i can do the ota update again and still keep root.
Also @ -josh- rooting will not damage your phone so its safe to root. I am also a first time android user myself but following the steps in the thread above worked fine no problems. And even if it didnt you can use SEUS to fix a phone with a locked bootloader
I rooted my phone when i was using 2.3.2 and found a good improvement.
Then i updated to an unrooted 2.3.3.
Ive left it unrooted for now. 2.3.3 performance is better than a rooted 2.3.2 i find.
It would be nice to root and remove the bloatwarw and overclock to 1.5 ghz, which can now be done. But for now i am happy.
Aside from a few Gameloft games not working, 2.3.3 is outstanding.
Not going to root until something major happens. Only reason i can see to root is to clock to 1.5 ghz to get n64oid working better.
Other than that, no point imo.
i have already tried the 2.3.2 root then flash to 2.3.3 method to no avail.. i don't know what im doing wrong but i think it's because my handset's a HK one, had it bought by someone in HK then i am using it here in the philippines. i'm not considering flashing custom roms either since i can't trust others' hands playing around roms, hehehe.. sigh!
You can are not supposed to flash to 2.3.3.. You are supposed to flash your phone to 2.3.2 uk generic version. After root your phone and through your phone you go to settings /about/update software and upgrade it there without hooking it to the computer. Make sure that your bootloader is LOCKED, otherwise you brick your phone.

[Q] Best steps to get Rogers 2.3.3 and root?

I have a stock Rogers play and now that the OTA update is available was wondering what's the best way to get root and then update. I want to freeze delete most of the boat to speed it up a bit, while leaving the option to revert back to the rogers fw in the future.
Also I was wondering if anyone can recommend a sim unlocker, would be nice to use other providers when I'm not around home.
Sorry for the questions if they're pretty basic but this is my first smartphone and just starting to play around.
Hi there,
I have the same question about rooting.
but as far as unlocking ur sim code, I did it last week from a website. really easy. u pay $20 and they give u a code. the code is needed when another simcard other than rogers is inserted.
I used this website: mobileincanada.com
there is cheaper ones i.e. $16 but I am not sure if they actually work or no. I tried this one and it works and they have a good customer service so its best if u try them. cheers

Wait, if the phone comes with boats, can I use it in the bath tub without a problem? That is an AWESOME feature, idk why you would wanna remove it.
My Xplay came from rogers canada also, but Im using it here in philippines, I unlocked it using cellphoneunlocker.net to have the unlock codes.. And they only charge it 8$..
It is originally 2.3.2 then i rooted it, deleted some bloatware, then when the 2.3.3 update comes out I used this instruction to have a 2.3.3 rooted Xplay http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1116090
But after update I fail to recover some apps, maybe because the backup app that i used is not titanium backup w/c is the advisabe one.. I didn't use that eventhough I have it is because i dunno how to used it to backup my files. Until now..
So i just install those app all over again..
@brochador And how is that the easy way?

Request: How to Update to Generic 2.3 from Custom ROM

I am guessing this might be coming from someone once it's released, but it's been a while since I played with my phone and I'm not that tech savy on the latest on these as things are constantly moving/changing.
I'm running a 2.2 Custom ROM and would like to upgrade to the stock generic 2.3 GB once it's released and I have no clue as to the best way to do this. So once it's out, if we can get a decent step by step how to, that would be great.
Thank you.
i would say use the flashtool thread in the dev section, flash a world generic rom and the corresponding baseband. don't root it or anything like that.
sign in, then connect to pc companion and see if the update hits.
Flash stock 2.1 firmware
update your x10 thru SE software
ensure your phone is rooted and xrecovery installed then wait for pre-rooted gb update to come out on here. It will be almost certainly simply bea case of flashing kernal and baseband using flashtool and custom update using xrecovery.
i certainly would not recommend flashing your phone back to stock 2.1 roms at this point in time - if you update to stock gingerbread then rooting may become more tricky and you may well have to go back to 2.1 rooted before you can get a rooted gingerbread - we simply dont know what security fixes will be included in the gingerbread update - so we dont know how easy it will be to root it once you have updated to stock 2.3
step 1. wait for the rom to launch
step 2. go to the gingerbread thread and read!!
step 3. read before posting the same question that's been asked thousands of times already!!

I'm going for this route as well, wait for a flashtools rootable 2.3. But i don't think it will take much long, the x10 gingerbread rom is based on the one SE worked for the Arc and that was rooted pretty quickly, no?
For those still with stock 2.1 i can understand all the excitement, but for me, i've been using a custom rom with basically the same UI and features for a while, I can wait a little longer.

But there are other ways to achieve root on 2.3.3 which involves flashing.

Yeah, I was reading the post 2 above this one swearing & shaking my fists, because I'm running j's 2.3.3 rooted rom right now....2.3.3 can be rooted, it's just gonna be a little while before it's a one-click. That's always how it goes
Now that arc, neo, play & x10 are all gonna be 2.3.3, maybe it'll get the ball rolling a little faster on one-click solutions. We do have the largest Xperia dev community in the X10 section, afterall
We can simply "repair" the phone with SEUS. SEUS will download the last version for your device and install it automatically.

maybe, but only with an unrooted, unbranded generic 2.1 rom SE says to use PCC, which means it will most likely be available for SEUS, too (IIRC, they use the exact same database for the rom updates)
Good info so far. I might sell my phone (or lend it to a friend) and it would obviously sell best with an OEM 2.3 unlocked ROM which is assumingly bug-free for the most part.
So SEUS looks at what is currently on the phone and repairs it to that?

[Q] As a Canadian Xperia play user..

I cannot actually root at the moment because the last month the Gingerbreak root exploit was fixed and I am unable to use the boot loader because I'm on Rogers here in Canada, right?
You can install the 2.3.2 UK non-generic firmware via flashtool, root your phone with gingerbreak, update to OTA 2.3.3
That or unlock your phone here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1232050
which is unlock your bootloader and your SIM. From there you can update to the Nordic 2.3.4 and root it via recovery.
Im a Canadian Xperia play user with a Rogers Xperia play, unbranded, unlocked bootloader and unlocked SIM and using a Bells SIM card. Currently running 2.3.4

Gingerbreak is REALLY funny. I've done this a few times, and it never seems to go the same way twice.
Once after 20 minutes I gave up, went in and manually mounted my SD Card through the settings option - phone rebooted and was rooted almost immediately
(not recommending you do that, but sometimes the smallest things make a dif, like formatting your SD Card from the phone itself first)

Interesting. So it looks like I need their special client to flash to 2.3.2 US Generic. Unless there's a FTF out there..
Also, from what I read, it doesn't offer OTA to 2.3.3, so that kinda sucks.
It does. I have a rogers play and i used wantonserver to flash 2.3.2 na , root, ota update
The software and the credits are free, everything is super easy and they have the firmware for pretty much every region from 2.3.2 fw to 2.3.4
