as khanem sad use update and you will have all data in your phone after that.i did the same and everything was as it was before
i updated the phone from 14 to 26 today..
i was expecting it to wipe ol the data, account information etc..
but to my surprise, it didnot touch a thing..the phone remained the same as it was before the update(wallpaper, settings, data etc) apart from major touch screen improvements, fluidity etc..
On another thought, I gonna upgrade later when its more stable. Looking at the Root/upgrade thread there seems to be alot of problems with it.
I've just checked for an update and SEPCC said there was an update (I was on 024) so I backed up using the SE backup app and used Astro file manager to backup most of my apps.
HTH
oh n btw after update I'm still on 024
may try the repair function to see if I get the 026
Don't do that... Download seus and use that..
Sent from my x10 using XDA and swype.
When I tried to update my X10i that I de-branded using Omnius to R1FA016 UK Generic and then OTA to R2BA020, my phone OTA told me to use a PC to update so when I tried this SEUS told me I had the latest update but I only had R2BA020. So I did a Repair using SEUS and then tried an update and again it told me I had the latest update. When I looked in "about phone" I had R2BA026 so the repair must have upgraded at the same time.
I'm no expert, only now learning this stuff but just my experience.
Now to make things worse I lost all my apps when doing the repair, I had backed them up using ASTRO but some were "Private" and could not be backed up. When it came to re-downloading these apps (Tapatalk Pro, Astro keycode(add free) etc.) they were not on the market at all, no matter what I tried I could not find them and I've been trying all day. So I come home from work and decided to flash my X10 back to R1FA016 and those missing apps are back on the market?
Anybody care to help me out here? A FW 026 issue? What should I do, don't want to update to 026 and loose my paid for apps again but the phone was def better with the 020 update?
Help!

Such as?
People are having troubles with the rooting, but the firmware is pretty solid. Only issue I know of with it is the old WiFi bug:

I've rooted my phone, I downloaded Autokiller and Titanium Backup, both programs are saying I don't have root. Why's that?
I can't even use SetCPU too....
Go into settings and about and see if it's actually rooted, what Model Number, Firmware, Baseband, Kernel and Build Number is it?
Model number X10a
Firmware version 1.6
Baseband version 1.1.27
Kernel version 2.6.29-rel [email protected] #2
Build number R2BA023

You should re root your fone, just a few more minute.

I'd pull battery and have a crack at that first.
Then if not - I'd go for step 3 again.
So 2and3 or just 3?

2 won't work if it already has, so 3.. easiest way to tell if 3 will work, is open up terminal app, and if there is # step 3 will work, if your prompt is a $ though, step3 won't work, and something went wrong along the way

Really, i'm curious.
I did it because i wanted droidwall which unfortunately is not working on X10 because of the kernel limitations (aka no iptables/ipfiltering)
Looks Like I Lost Root...
Hey!
I think I lost root as well.
Because after completing steps 1-5 (mine is x10a) ...
Everything worked, I had superuser app, etc. and others.
But I went to settings and did a full reset, which make have screwed up my things.
So, do I have to start from Step #1 again?
Because I installed Titanium Backup, it says something about not having root & installed busybox missing.
Thread moved to General.

True... if I was still using the default phonebook (which is slow and buggy from my experience).
I use Phonebook 2.0 (free on the market) and don't have any issues with viewing or editing contact details. I've also tried aContacts, and it works fine as well, and interestingly editing contacts with it uses the default SE edit contacts interface, making me wonder exactly what the issue is with the default SE phonebook app when Timescape is removed.

mine is still R2BA023, is this normal?

Are you branded or unbranded

Yes its normak if you have a brandet version. That means your carrier need to send out the firmware to seus. They maybe just eaitet fir the android 2.1 update. Instead of rolling 26 aswell

mate, u will either need to debrand completely, or flash your phone with a different ROM
(or is that basically the same thing !) i flashed my optus branded x10 with global generic (i think its UK or Nordic) and all is good.
another benefit of this is that u wont have to wait for Helstra to get their finger out and have a 2.1 branded ROM for you. if you have a generic rom, then you get the 2.1 update as soon as its available (via seus obviously)
cheers, tim
edit: when you run SEUS - it checks what version you have (telstra) and then looks in the dB for the latest telstra rom available. telstra have only published/released up to the version you are running, therefore "no updates available". If you were running a generic version, when you connected up to SEUS it would be looking for a different version. hope that is a bit clearer
if i completly debrand it, and something happens to it, can i just brand it again and send it back, kinda like. rooting then un-rooting ect
?

right, im gunna want a bit of confirmation from others here....been a while since i did this.
using Bin4ry's post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=711907 i grabbed the latest files from the fileshare websites listed. basically the files that Bin4ry and the other guys have created are a script (batch files) that prompt you step by step. i know the method is called ROOT but its the same process. To ROOT in this original method, you had to flash back to an older revision of the firmware and then update. When you flash back to the older version, it is a generic version. Then you can simply use SEUS to update to newest. KEEP IN MIND that doing ANY kind of firmware update will completely erase anything on the internal memory. This is NOT the sd card, so pics and such will be ok but contacts - msgs - settings will all be gone. might be best to do the one-press root, install titanium backup first and then backup your phone book and other important apps that you may have.
main thing is to ask questions. there are sh!tloads of ppl on here with heaps of knowledge. be safe in the knowledge that you cannot, CANNOT completely screw your phone. you can always flash another firmware back onto it using SEUS. once ppl hack the bootloader, this will be a different story but until then just get in there and have a go
good luck and happy modding!!

main reason that you would root first is so you can use titanium backup to backup your apps and settings. You will still need to flash to a non branded firmware, jerplea has a few ROMS on his posts, probably best to have a look in those threads and ask the masters

when you say wont work....what do you mean? When running the flash tool are you following the prompts on screen? you need to have USB Debugging enabled on the Settings=>Applications=>Development enabled. let me kow where it is failing and we might be able to get it working for ya....if you are still keen anyway
just been reading through the original post from Bin4ry again (the flashing/rooting one)....i think that you should post on it exactly where the problems are, where it is failing and what you are doing. There are several active users on there that are very knowlegable on flashing

it sounds like a java problem actually.....do you have java installed?
what OS are you on? if its Win7 64bit (or Vista 64bit), there is a 64bit java fix that you need to run also. have a look at this thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=713457
if you are on a 32bit machine then chances are its a deviceID issue but from what you have posted above - it looks like the java problem.
win64 bit, and i think i got java cant remember lol.
will check it out though soon thanks
I have got my SGS about a week. the 2.1 os gives me so many bugs, and it really slow, compare with my Desire.
So, I thought I could flash it with the rom at xda forum. But my phone couldn't go to download mode or recovery mode....
And I had bought a few paid apps and fonts from market. So, I didn't want to lose them.
Today, I wake up in the morning, and search on the samsung mobile site. I saw the update news at Hong Kong site.
it doesn't matter which site you downloaded your kies installation file from.
Here is the magical way!!:::
(before you do update, remove you sd card if you got one, just in case)
1. launch the installation file(if you have installed already, reinstall it)
2. choose the area/country-----Hong Kong
3. choose any lang you like to install
4. connect your SGS to your computer
5. once your phone connected, KIES will show a notification automatically, it says you got a firmware update.
6. follow the steps, and update..
and enjoy the official 2.2 from samsung.
BTW: my phone just finished the updating 10 mins ago..
it's much faster than 2.1, and not laggy anymore..
it's better to do updating on a 32bit windows os. I tried on my windows 7 64bit, it always shows some error msgs I don't understand.
all the apps and fonts i bought are still there. and also, the emails txt everything still there.. you dont need to do anything.
I will post my feedback with this, if you guys need any help, I will answer your questions. but I think it is very easy and simple.
The total ram on 2.2 shows 304MB.
Everything else works fine so far.

If you get Kies to work and find your phone you get the update only if your Network has uploaded the firmware .
jje
i got it from Rogers
I thought it was the much anticipated 2.0.A.0.24 but no, now we are ahead. Let me describe what you can expect from this update:
1. phone is not wiped, but root and xrecovery are gone
2. loaded with more sony junk
3. you can still root it XDXDXD with the flashtool
4. feels smoother? i dunno
5. official multitouch!!! feels better than the bin4ry one
lol thats what i can observe from this build, need more info? just ask, ill try to find out and tell u

So since as if we have already been abandoned by the Gingerbreak Project, what can you guys recommend to root my R800i without removing the ability to update the phone to higher Android in the coming months?
So you see I am really new to Android and I have little knowledge on unlocking bootloaders and the like that's why I stuck to Gingerbreak last month. Now that I have updated to 2.3.3, yeah everybody knows Gingerbreak no longer works.
I cannot consider reverting back to 2.3.2 since the 2.3.3 update really improved the battery performance and I'd still choose that over the ability to root on the 2.3.2. But then, bottom line is we really love our phones rooted.
So to cut the crap, anyone please recommend the best method to root the R800i (I would be open for tutorials) whilst preserving our ability to update to better versions in the future?
Ive not rooted or unlocked the boot loader yet myself as this is my first android device im taking it slowly but according to threads in the development section you can root and upgrade as long as you do nothing to the device before upgrading, root the phone then upgrade to 2.3.3
This means flashing backwards first obviously.
As far as upgrading in the future you will be better off flashing a custom rom if development goes well. Custom roms will take this device further than official updates will.

See here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1116090. Follow the steps and you shall have root on 2.3.3 . I have also opted to "freeze" the bloat this time instead of just uninstalling it, in hopes that when 2.3.4 arrives i can do the ota update again and still keep root.
Also @ -josh- rooting will not damage your phone so its safe to root. I am also a first time android user myself but following the steps in the thread above worked fine no problems. And even if it didnt you can use SEUS to fix a phone with a locked bootloader
I rooted my phone when i was using 2.3.2 and found a good improvement.
Then i updated to an unrooted 2.3.3.
Ive left it unrooted for now. 2.3.3 performance is better than a rooted 2.3.2 i find.
It would be nice to root and remove the bloatwarw and overclock to 1.5 ghz, which can now be done. But for now i am happy.
Aside from a few Gameloft games not working, 2.3.3 is outstanding.
Not going to root until something major happens. Only reason i can see to root is to clock to 1.5 ghz to get n64oid working better.
Other than that, no point imo.
i have already tried the 2.3.2 root then flash to 2.3.3 method to no avail.. i don't know what im doing wrong but i think it's because my handset's a HK one, had it bought by someone in HK then i am using it here in the philippines. i'm not considering flashing custom roms either since i can't trust others' hands playing around roms, hehehe.. sigh!
You can are not supposed to flash to 2.3.3.. You are supposed to flash your phone to 2.3.2 uk generic version. After root your phone and through your phone you go to settings /about/update software and upgrade it there without hooking it to the computer. Make sure that your bootloader is LOCKED, otherwise you brick your phone.

Thanks, so if I want there's an option to keep all my data/settings? Basically I could flash a rooted version of 2.3.3 onto my xperia play running 2.3.3? Cheers
