LOL...I just factory reset my phone by accident - G2 and Desire Z General

I've never launched my G2 boot loader screen before, so I tried it. And I noticed various options like Sim Lock and Factory Reset...I wanted to test if the "Factory Reset" option would come with a verification screen.
Guess what?...upon choosing that option, I did not get a verification screen and all my apps have been deleted from the phone.
Sadness all around me.

Damn, that sucks. I don't think seeing if there was a verification screen test was worth it. Haha

Yeah, so if I misclick the wrong option, I will accidentally reset the phone. This needs to be fixed. I mean come on, I am sure everyone have misclicked/selected before.

Nice job.. thumbs up

My condolences. Lol.
But seriously, thanks for the heads up. I may have done the same thing, I think. Now I won't be doing that again, or at least, I would have a backup ready. XD

You're like Home Simpson at the Nuclear Powerplant - the button clearly states "Do not push" but of course you do.

[Q] Wiping / Factory Reset while blind

Okay so basically I have a damaged LCD and I need to wipe blind before I change phones, my phone has a security lock but I wanna be safe. On one of my mms messages I have a video of me banging an asian girl from behind. Don't want that to get out lol. Can anyone guide me step by step from Amon_Ra 2.3 how to factory reset?
i.e. Down Down Down Power Down Power etc etc.
I followed the extended menu from the pdf found on the Amon_Ra thread but I believe I get to the wipe option but get stuck at the confirmation screen, I don't remember how many times to scroll down to hit "YES".
So far I'm at:
Amon_Ra 2.3 Home
Down (To usb toggle)
Down (To Backup/Restore)
Down (To Flash)
Down (To Wipe)
Power (Wipe ALL)
..... I get stuck here.
Help. Please.

When you open the attached media, yes, it downloads that media to your SD card, I think to the /sdcard/download folder.

No sir, she was the real deal, and all it cost me was a meal and a bottle of wine. Asian women are wild, she wanted to see how she looked riding me from behind so I recorded a couple of videos and sent them to her.
So in the end there was good news there was bad news. Let's start with how I broke the lcd in the first place. I'm leaving work to see a client, busy and running late carrying a lot of **** and I'm rather clumsy when I have to multitask. I forget my phone on the roof of the car, drove off and heard the phone slide off the back end of my civic coupe. I felt it's demise in slow motion and all I could do was say "nooooooooooooooo!" Ironically the front plastic was not scratched at all, so much for spending $15 on ZAGG. Phone on, lcd lit but the impact caused the crystals to crack, or whatever.
Fast forward to yesterday, took the phone to the Sprint service center, they said come back in 2 hours. Replaced the lcd free of charge! I was a happy camper, except now the volume keys don't work so I need to go back first thing in the morning.
I personally think they just replaced the phone with a refurb because I tried to adb to recovery but it was gone, red triangle, since the volume keys don't work I used adb to boot to bootloader and S was back on.
I'll keep you guys posted, not that you care.
Did you ever think that we might want to see this asian girl?

I don't use a screen lock. It's disabled with Nolock, because it's completely unnecessary.
I'm confused..
The site you linked says nothing at all about breaking pattern locks?
Anyhow to answer your question, I do not lock my phone but if I did it would be with a number or word combo.

Oh my. Someone just needs to wipe their phone off every once in a while. Either that, or wash their hands.
As an alternative, how about actually using the phone once you've turned it on? I mean if you do anything (text, e-mail, browse, launch an app, change screens) your "grease trail" will likely be altered.
I know I should be using one, but I'm just too lazy to deal with it. I know, sad.

[Q] how to save hard bricked nexus 4??

Hi all, so I went to flash Franco kernel on my n4, and I clicked on nexus 4 kernels, but somehow ended up going to the page with the gnex kernels, and flashed that instead. I didn't realize that till after I bricked my phone when I went on my friends phone and then checked the page. Idk how that happened that I was directed to the gnex kernel page, but I was. So anyway, I hard bricked my phone and wondering if There's any way to save it? It won't even boot up, or go into bootloader mode, or anything. please help?? Thanks!
Try holding volume down and then plugin your usb cable in your pc. Worked for me and mine is still hardbricked! Maybe you can get into fastboot and restore

it doesnt even turn on, and i have a mac :/ i have no way to get into fastboot mode
It doesn't turn on? What did you mean? Do you see the Google logo when you press the power button? Try holding volume keys and power to get to fast boot.
Try downloading the drivers from the pdanets software. I think they have a Mac version which will enable you to use fast boot on Mac. Go to Google factory images page and download the nexus 4 image. Unzip it and use flash the boot image by using the fastboot command : fastboot flash boot boot.IMG

Not to sound like an asshole or anything but to be completely honest, I kinda hope Google doesn't replace that phone of your for free. You messed it up by not double checking everything twice before clicking that confirm button when you went to flash a new kernel. You knew that if you messed up your phone is dead. But now Google has to shell out a new phone because YOU messed up, not Google.
Gonna ruin it for people that actually did get a defected device...

Not cool. You need to fix this yourself.
What were you thinking flashing stuff to your phone but not having the ability to use fastboot and other dev tools? If you're going to intentionally gut out the functionality of your phone, have the tools and willingness to deal with problems! This isn't Google's fault, don't leave them with the bill!

how can i double check something that doesnt have a device model on it? it simply says "Franco.kernel nightly r-number.zip", i dont know how i managed to end up on the gnex kernel list, when i specifically clicked on nexus 4 kernels. that was beyond my control, its not like i made a stupid mistake on purpose. i double checked everything, making sure i was on the right xda page, and i downloaded a zip file not an img file, etc, i did everything i could do, yet little things slip

Post the url you click that forwarded you to the gnex page. I'd be willing to bet that it says up top in orange, something along the line of "gnex>android development>gnex kernels"
Did you read the comments of that thread?
When you were in TWRP/CWM, the name of the file didn't hint at either gnex or nexus 4? It should have, if I'm not mistaken. There are always few ways to double check the file you downloaded.

So...it won't turn on at all? Did you someone flash a bootloader or something?
Maybe JTAG it. Hire somebody who knows how to use that technology and you could get it restored.

I`m calling google to tell them not to give a free phone to that guy! He should be charged every penny for the new phone!
Not to troll the OP, but man I'm seeing these threads all the time now and it's seriously annoying and down right fraudulent!
If you buy a new car, drive it off the lot and wreck it five miles down the road while breaking every traffic law known to man, you can not bring the heap of metal and plastic back to the dealership and demand another.
YOU voided your warranty! YOU flashed third party firmware! YOU improperly flashed third party firmware and bricked your device as a result. Do not blame Google, Franco, or anyone else for YOUR mistake!
Google has no responsibility for your device now, they guarantee that it works from the factory in the condition they sold it in. Once you click 'Yes' in the bootloader to unlock your device, you're on your own should you screw up... That's what that message is telling you!
I, for one, enjoy getting a nice phone at a great price. People like you are the reason carriers and OEMs charge $600+ now! Take responsibility for breaking it... Perhaps next time you should read, then when you think you know enough, read some more!

AT&T S4 Magic Box Fix My Phone

Please do not laugh at me. This is real.
I just took delivery of a AT&T S4. This is what the previous owner said:
It is only 4 months old. It was working perfect but I took the battery out and when I turned it back on and it won't reboot. It just shows an android laying down and says "no command"
When I opened the box and took the phone out, the green android was on and the phone booted into recovery mode. I tried to reboot from inside the recovery and it always booted into recovery. Frustrated, it shut it off and put it back inside the box.
As soon as I put it back to the box, the phone rebooted by itself. It bypassed the little Android and into AT&T globe logo. Then it prompted me to select the language. Now the phone comes alive!
Just to verify that the box has some magic, I took out 4 other S4 phones I have, 3 AT&T and 1 US Cellular. All of them self-booted after I put them inside the phone box. I have no idea why and how this happened. They do not self-boot in their own boxes.
I tried some other phones. The S2 did not work. One S3 booted, but the other S3 did not self-boot.
I can't explain this. I have another SGH-I777 which does exactly the same thing. But that I777 does not self-boot right away, but randomly.
Have you guys seen this?
I wonder how many people are gonna go try and put their broke phone back in the box
Lol this might be taken down since there's no point of it

I think it should stay. it's pretty amusing
I'll try to make a video when it is quiet....
Former Radioshack employee here. I can confirm this is indeed true. The boxes do have a technical merit about them. During the activation process, I'd read the IMEI off the box, grab a SIM, grab those numbers, and once it went through the activation portal, I could hear the phone turn on through the box. Most customers thought I was playing some kind of joke or trick, but once they saw that the box was sealed, they freaked out. Many people turned and ran out the door, fearing some kind of dark magic or evil force, but it was really just your new two year contract taking your life and soul away from you. The phones in the box knew this, and as stated before, once activated would become self aware.
Here is the Youtube video. Believe or not. I think it is just coincidence somehow.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tymkj6aE7fw&feature=youtu.be
Cheers.
I read that is how they cured Hepatitis C. They put it in the box and out popped a cure.
I mean, I'm sure an NFC tag had nothing to do with the phone magically turning on.
I do not really know. But it happened to fix my S4 which was stuck in recovery forever.
But my Verizon S4 is still stuck at logo....

WOW
may have an NFC chip in the box? Very strange indeed.
I find it odd that we never see what is below the top section of the box. You also do not push any buttons to confirm the device is off.
My guess:
Phone is sleeping and there is an NFC tag that is programmed to reboot the phone.

So basically you still think this is all fake. So be. I'm not going to answer more question.
Also, do me a favor, put your phone in sleep mode. Put it in your box and see if it wakes up?

Until now, who else asked you any questions?
Being a naturally curious person I couldn't let this slide without doing my own test. BLUF: My phone rebooted when placed in the box.
Explanation:
I had to take my Incipio Slim Armor case off to fit it in the box. This is where I noticed just how tight of a fit it was (insert your own jokes). I placed my device in the box and the extended power menu popped up (thanks Sho!) and then the device rebooted.
TLDR The box is so tight it holds the power button down.

[Q] S4 Touch not responding

I picked up my S4 from Best Buy and got the insurance plan on it. A few weeks back, I dropped it, and the touch screen stopped responding. A simple reboot did not fix it. When I took it in, the Geek Squad guy took a look at it, then it looked like he booted it into recovery (though I didn't see exactly what he did) and did something there that fixed it without a factory reset. He gave a really quick runthrough of what he did, but since I wasn't the one doing it myself, I don't remember what he said.
Anyone here know what it might have been? It's happened again, and I tried recovery and clearing the cache, but that didn't help, and I didn't see any other options that a person free-standing in a room would use to fix something (no updates to apply from cache etc. and I tried clearing the cache to no avail) and I'm hoping to avoid having to either take it apart or *shudder* deal with a flip phone loaner for a few days while I wait for a replacement.
You need a replacement... Bottom line. They should trade it out in store.

Actually, this morning my alarm was going off, and I had no way of turning it off (no touch, and wouldn't respond to 'stop' voice command) so I took the battery out for the 5th or 6th time. When I replaced it, upon booting up, the phone worked again. *shrug* Whatever was out of place or not working has now temporarily rectified itself. I'll probably have them replace it next time it comes up anyway, assuming it happens again.
