Radio question - myTouch 3G, Magic General

i just flashed the My OTA froyo/ rooted rom. and i wanted to change the radio to something a little faster. the phone is still just a little slower then i would like. the radio version right now is 2.22.19.26I. so my question is. which radio can i switch to and where can i find it. its my spare phone and when it got the OTA froyo update it made it so slow it was useless. flashing the rom helped quite a bit but i still want it a little faster. so any advice or help is greatly appreciated.

Flashing a different or newer radio version isn't going to improve performance. Flashing an incompatible radio version could leave your phone in an unusable state.
Try factory reset. Before you do, back up all your contacts, pictures, apps and anything else you want to keep.
Also, is your phone 32A, 32B, or 1.2/LE?

He's got a Euro edition 32B judging by the radio.

Needing opinions

Okay, I've pretty much been self help during my tenure of android exploiting, to call what I do hacking is an insult to cyan, lucid and JF and all the work they are doing. but I want some opinions on what I should do next.
I know there is some other SPLs up there, I'm currently running the HardSPL (a modified version on the Enginneering SPL distributed with the ADP). Should I upgrade to a newer SPL (I.E. Haykuro), is there even a point seeing as I have A2SD with a class 6 chip? Note I do intend on staying with Cyan's JF builds.
I also understand upgrading to some SPLs require a newer Radio then I probably have. I believe I can find the radio version on the Camera + Power screen. What are the benifits to upgrading the Radio, and should I upgrade my Radio even if I decide the SPL isn't worth it?
Prodigal Sun, Hero Port, Aero, and Black Ice are all different themes, however I can't decide if I want to use one and which one. Prodigal Sun is my favorite by far, however I plan on using AHome, so I'm not sure it it will work. I also like Aeros toolbar up top look. Any other Themes that someone might suggest would be great. Remember I'm on JF 1.51 Cyan Edition
Okay, also this seems like a wierd question but as far as ADP vs .odex, which is better and what difference is there really? ADP seems to run faster even though .odex is supposed to be "optimized."
Thanks for any and all inputs!
dont anyone reply all at once now... >.>
I wouldn't upgrade to Haykuro's new SPL. First, you need to make sure you have the PVT and not DVT board (Hold Camera when booting and you'll see which one you have). If you have PVT, you can install it. If you have DVT, it will brick your device.
Next, it's been reported that once you upgrade to the new SPL, you can't downgrade your radio or it will brick your device as well.
Haykuro isn't as active anymroe since he's stopped developing ROMs so I assume there won't be much support for the SPL without Haykuro around much.
I think the risk outweighs the benefits at this point. That is just my 2 cents though. I would like to update to the new SPL as well =[

Seconds that on the SPL:
I already bricked a phone.
Won't be trying it again until they 100% resolve the updating issue.

Thanks for the heads up. I read that message like 2 minutes after I decided to flash the radio and SPL. I got lucky I just dodged a bullet I guess. My system is running without bricking so I should be good.

Quick question: Why would anyone want to downgrade their radio?
I keep hearing this come up when people are discussing whether or not to flash to H's SPL and I never understood it.
they might not want to, however what if a file they goto load has the old radio in it, ie the RC29 file. that being the case they want to make sure they load up the hardspl or engineering spl then flash the update.zip or the nbh file that has the old radio in it.

Ah good point sir
You don't really need the new spl, unless your going to run hero build then you may want to. Dude, jf, cyanogen builds don't need it. I just flashed it to try hero and to get more space.
I didn't notice a diffrence when I flashed it. I was run CM 3.3.8 before and after. Thanks for lucids script tip

Using New SPL, can I downgrade from 1.5 to 1.1

I'm looking to downgrade from 1.5 to 1.1, but I'm running haykuro's new spl.
I know that JF 1.1 builds have a different boot.img, and I'm not sure if it's compatible with the new SPL. I definitely don't want to brick my precious....
Do any of you far more knowledgeable memebers/devs know if this could potentially brick my phone? Obviously, this isn't something I want to just jump into...
I did a search but couldn't really find anything...
Oh, and this is for beta-testing purposes... thats why I'd like to downgrade. AFAIK all of the current 1.5 builds are missing tty from the kernel (please correct me if I'm wrong) and I need that to begin testing.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Run the organelle img from the begin when you first rooted
I have tested this and it works. You will need to reroot after you link back to RC29
Well see, thats the thing, i would rather not flash dreaimg.nbh
I know that would work, but I'd like to keep the new spl...
i'm wondering if anyone has successfully reverted to 1.1 while using new spl and without bricking.
So i guess my ? is more about the compatibility of boot.img and the new spl....
Also, anyone know why JF's new kernel does not include tty? Anyone up for compiling a new boot.img/kernel?
Just make sure the 1.1 update you're applying does not have a radio update in it! Some of the old JF builds might have radios in them
If you don't downgrade the radio and don't touch the SPL, the worst that can happen is the Android 1.1 won't boot. You'll still be able to get into the SPL and fastboot. But I really doubt even this would happen - I'm 99% sure you can downgrade on the new SPL without any negative consequences.
Just make a Nandroid backup in case.
So I guess there's nothing left to do but try it... hopefully it won't brick.
Love the new SPL, but my lack of understanding for how things actually work makes me paranoid. no one wants to see their 400$ mini computer crap out on them...
oh well if it doesn't work then I have a really good excuse to pick up a magic.
UPDATE: Downgraded to JF ADP1.43H with no issues... Phone works fine. No issues or problems so far.

Where to find really old ROM's, radio's and SPL's?

I am one of those few, but mad, people with a Dream/G1, that has the SIM-problem where the phone claims that "your SIM doesn´t allow connection to this network" etc.
In my research to why this problem exists, I have seemed to trace it back to when the 1.5 version was released OTA. The operator functioning with the phone when the OTA update was installed will still funtion, but the other operators will sometimes stop working.
So now when I have tried countless ROMs based on 1.5 and 1.6, I want to get back to the earliest possible combination of ROM, radio and SPL to maybe get a fresh start. But where do I find "obsolete" ROM's etc for the Dream?
Today I´m running some experimental Hero-ROM with BLUR-objects by Drizzy, with latest radio and HardSPL (rooted of course). Is there any pitfalls in downgrading in any special order?
Best regards,
Christoffer
Several of us still have rom's saved on our pc's. You can ask for something and someone can provide it for you or you can google it and find older roms. Since you only have HardSPL there is no order to downgrade.
sounds like you want the RC29 image (US) or RC7 image (UK)
Both can be found HERE
This will replace rom, recovery, radio, and spl.
FYI, if you're running a Hero ROM (other than that tiny/mico/mini Hero one) then you're using the 1.33.2005 SPL, not Hard.

Extracting radio from nandroid backup

Hi folks,
I'm currently with Telus and I will be re-rooting my phone but I don't want to lose the radio that came with the phone. Is there a way to extract the radio, maybe from a nandroid backup?
I find the radio that comes default with the phone does not suck as much battery power as the other international radios do.
Thanks.
I might be wrong, but unless you flash a new radio, it remains when you flash a new rom....
Nandroid backups unfortunately don't include the radio.
Some people find that installing 63.18.55.06IU_6.35.08.22 gives performance that is similar to the Telus radio (63.18.55.06DAU_6.35.08.20).
Hopefully there is a way to extract a radio since I'm interested in that as well.

I can confirmed, since I've rooted my phone, I've tried all the Radio's available and the one I have found to work best is 63.18.55.06IU_6.35.08.22 ! Although some people are using other Radio's and find that they work as good as 08.22 so It's pretty much up to you to test the radio's and find the one that you think works for you!
Cheers
Take a look in the
[ROM] Official HTC Hero RUU ROM + Radio Links thread. (sorry they don't let new users post links)
The 08.22 radio you want is there. Download and put onto your SD card. After flashing your rom reboot into revovery and flash the radio file just like you did the rom file.
as someone sort of guessed at here, radios are something you don't have to worry about.
a radio doesn't get backed up or restored in nandroid. but also, a radio doesn't get flashed when you flash a new rom onto your phone.
the radio software stays exactly the same unless you specifically flash a different radio onto your phone. and then it stays like that forever too until you flash yet another different one on there.
so stick with your default radio, assuming telus actually sets it up with a telus-friendly-radio out of hte box...
if you accidentally screw it up, flashing .08.22 radio will get you back pretty close to where you are now in terms of performance. However none of us probably has the original radio from our telus phones any longer because this didn't become common knowledge until relatively recently, so if you CAN I suggest not flashing any radios on your phone at all ever. that way you will retain the radio software taht came with your phone which, hopefully, is better than anything else for our crazy telus requirements.
so go ahead and flash roms, you'll have no troubles.
When I first got my hero, prior to rooting, my reception at home was terrible. I would routinely get 0 to 1 bars. So this would have been with the stock Telus radio. In fact, every phone I've had has had terrible reception in this location. After flashing 08.22 I am now getting from 2 to 5 bars at home. So although the 08.22 radio is supposed to be close to the stock radio, I'm finding it quite a bit better. Your mileage may vary.
Moved to general as not development

(edit) Differences between radios

hello. i searched about radio versions but didn't understand actually....also i didn't find a summary on what radio version do or what they are and so on.
I know that radio version can make the signal better, can make the GPS fix faster, can solve some bluetooth issues.
I would like to talk about the 2 and 3rd point.
2 - GPS fix takes a lot of time...i have already tried everything...with the FASTERFIX region change + cyanogen RC3 it looks it is a lot better than before....still, if a radio version can help, then i would like to try.
3 - i REALLY would like my jabra BT3030 to work fine...as I have already said in some other threads, there is an awful lag betwenn ANY video and the sound that i receive in the earphones...it makes it impossible to play any games or watch any movies with the bluetooth stereo headset. With the cyanogen it became better than before (stock rom)....but the lag is still there.
Will a different radio version help me? What should I do? Which radio version should I install? Will it require a hard reset and re-installing a different rom, or the same rom?
At the moment I am with cyanogen RC3 (the one from 27 march i think).
The only way to really know is to try different radios from this tread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=877295
07th March 2011:Radio_12.41.60.19_26.06.04.14_M_Test this one is best for me but i don't use any bluetooth devices. GPS fix is ok in this radio but the 1st time it takes up to 10 minutes to lock and you have to be in area that has direct vision of the sky!
PS: you don't need to reset or reinstall the ROM that you have
ops...i am a bit lost. I have read some tutorials but I know that flashing a radio version is very risky so I really want to be sure about what I am doing....
I am with cyanogen, the boot shows 'SHIP S-OFF'. Do I need to have ENG S-OFF ?
And what about RADIO S-OFF ? How can I check if it's already S-OFF ? If I reboot to the bootloader, I don't find any 'system info' to check the radio version.
From the home screen: power button - reboot - reboot to bootloader:
ACE PVT SHIP S-OFF
HBOOT-0.85.0007
MICROP-0438
RADIO-26.0.02.26_M
eMMC-boot
Oct 11 2010,12:47:02
FASTBOOT
VOL UP etc etc.....
BOOTLOADER
REBOOT
REBOOT BOOTLOADER
POWER DOWN
How can I check the radio s-off, and so on? I ask this because I don't want to brick the phone...I just want to try different radios in a safe way. I know that it can be done even with SHIP s-off....and that 'engineering s-off' is for enthusiast people...well i'm not an expert so yes, I want to do it the safe way but still remain with same rom, no hard reset, and having the possibility to install - unistall radios so I can try different ones without having the risk of doing damage to the phone.
how do i proceed?
How did you root the phone? What procedure did you follow?
i had to downgrade to 1.32 because i had 1.72 stock (not allowing any root from visionary). So i downgraded through the ADB prompt command (flashing a 1.32 rom stock). Then i rooted with visionary (possible because of the 1.32), and then i installed the cyanogen, staying with the root access. At the moment i am then with root access, cyanogen, android 2.3.3.
but i have no idea about the radio part....
So did you follow this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=905003 ?
And if yes, follow this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=857537
Then follow http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=855403
Also keep in mind - when connecting your phone to the computer make sure you have USB Debugging enabled and Connect charge only! And maybe if all go OK your good to go. Good luck!
Yes thanks but my doubt. Was:
Desire HD with stock kernel (or Apache14's 1.0.7 / 1.1.4 Sense) It will not work on 1.72.405.3 or higher build, or new radio (12.28b.60.140e_26.03.02.26_M is ok). Downgrade first!!
I am of course with 1.72, should. I downgrade again??? That means doing everything again (rom and apps and so on)
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
You have to downgrade if your coming from stock/you have just bought the phone from a store/ firmware to rooted one only once. Then if you install a ROM from XDA if you noticed into the info for every rom it says ROOTED so you do not have to downgrade every time.
And you can use each radio for each rom. You will find out that littlle of the roms out there are incompatible say with the latest radio

My ENG S-OFF tool works with every ROM if you have root & Radio S-OFF, you would have found that out if you had read the first post carefully
Lol ok i am so afraid of bricking the phone...I'll read better once i get home
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
ok so i successfully flashed a new radio (the one that pockobg said). it doesn't look that better....i left the GPS test on the window and nothing happened...maybe worse than before ?!?!?
Anyway it doesn't matter i'll keep trying. The question is: what's the difference between radios? Are there radios which wouldn't work well in some countries ?
I live in switzerland and the Desire HD I have, I bought that here....which probably is a German version since I'm very near the border and the spoken language is german. Does it make a difference on which radio I should be using ?
Some radios come with different ROMs, for instance i debranded and installed latest HTC ROM, ever since I had poor reception and poor wifi so installed the latest Orange radio and it works much better
I would personally try another radio and see what works best for you
which one is the latest orange radio?
anyway, the gps, wifi, bluetooth reception depend entirely on the radio?
I mean, I am with cyanogen rom RC3, does that make a difference? Will a different ROM have an influence on all the radio things or
ROM x + RADIO z = 10
ROM y + RADIO z = 10
?
Gps, wifi, bluetooth reception depend on the radio but the ROM also takes part. Why don"t you try some other ROM like LeeDroid's 2.2.3 + 2.2.9 kernel? Maybe your problem is ROM related, and make shure you do a wipe.
Few advices for the GPS:
1. First lock takes time - from 10min to 30min
2. Get some where outside where you have a clear view of the sky and away from tall buildings
3. If you are using a case it may be a problem
One question - what program are you using?
PS:
Now i"m using 04th April 2011: Radio_12.48.60.23U_26.08.04.07_M3 - Unknown source and i think its the best radio for GPS.
The only one who can determine which the best radio version is, is actually you. You have to try various versions to see which one is best for you and your carrier. Personally I always use the latest version unless I have any radio related issues like poor reception or battery life. I now use the latest one from the unknown source which seems to be the best so far.
I see you are on rc3. I would flash the latest nigthly first which has a lot of improvements and bug fixes before trying other radios.
Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk
I have the latest radio ( 12.48.60.23U_26.08.04.07_M3 ) and I'm pretty happy with it.GPS is still a bit slow but faster than with the stock radio. You should try it, but it can also be a rom problem.
the description says 'unknown source ---- be careful while flashing' so I was bit afraid....is it any different from other radios? Do I flash it normally? Why is it risky? What risk is there (if there is any risk) ?
I have been flashing radios now once every 3 days....if you say that this radio is not dangerous (lol that description in the radio thread freaked me out) then I'll try it out today.
We don't know where it has come from, from which rom it has been extracted but it is absolutely safe to flash. Many users have done it with no problems.
Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk
cool! an alien radio. I'm installing it right now.
IN CASE it doesn't make things better (although with the radio I have at moment I can get with gps status a fix in 13 seconds, sometimes in 40 seconds, sometimes 5 minutes aren't even enough...).........my question is:
what are the steps to upgrade to the cyanogen latest version? At the moment I am with the RC3. I could upgrade and see if it improves something. But my worries are the backup.....I mean I have literally hundreds of applications, savegames, home setups through adw launcher ex, widgets and so on. I know there is titan backup (which i have) but i don't really know how to use it. Will it backup ANYTHING (and I am speaking about game savegames, home screen setups and so on). ?
