I just got android on, MDJ's 2.6 and I see some color depth problem. on the live wallpapers I see it and on the weather widget. I also see it in some of the menus. I'm just wondering if this poor color depth is normal? this is what I'm talking about:
mine looks like the middle example, maybe a little worse.

I tried a different rom, same thing. I'm using the same live wallpaper on the new rom, and I don't see the problem, however I see it in the other same areas as I did with the old rom.

I used WP7 for some time and people say that it should enable 24-bit depth, and i can't confirm this because its not so important for me but wp7 clolours look "healthier" than in android. It could be android's fault. :/

so maybe if I put WP7 on and then go back to android perhaps it will be fixed?
Try Launcher Pro. Whenever I've seen someone on here complain about colour banding issues (especially with widgets!) I've recommend they try it and they've all agreed it's resolved with that 1 change.
I'd recommend Launcher Pro for many, many other reasons anyway, but it does fix this particular issue
I installed launcher pro, not sure where to go from here. I Google android color banding and found many complaints. I notice the banding on certain website logos while browsing and I even see it on the keyboard right now.
Are you saying that Launcher Pro didn't solve the problem with wallpapers and widgets? Obviously it can't affect any other app that runs but it should have made a difference to the home screen.

I dont think it did, I hit the home button, selected launcher pro, then I added a the weather widget to my home screen, I still see the banding on it. When I select the widget and move it around, the banding is gone, but as soon as I let go and drop it, I see banding.
You dont have banding? goto neowin.net with the android browser, look at the top left at the neowin logo, tell me if you see banding.
EDIT: I used the stock launcher and moved the weather widget around, even while moving it, it still had the banding, so launcher pro is effecting something.

I tried a bunch of wallpapers, but I think I like all black the most. I'm in love with this screen.
A black background it what I have been using since Wednesday. It is really nice.
The black "honeycomb" wallpaper included with LauncherPro (and LauncherPro Plus) is pretty gorgeous on the Epic 4G. Here's a shot:

Yes. The brighter the colors, the more battery is used to display them. White is the worst. Black is the best.

Also, red uses less power than green or blue.
So if you want some color in your black background, make it red.
It's funny cause even when you post what you have on here you don't really see how good it is unless you see it in person. Not even video really catches how good the screen is. But I know what you guys mean. I'm happy with this phone.
Where can one download an all solid-color wallpaper (without also downloading launcher pro)?
Open up photoshop (or Gimp for a free solution), set the resolution to 800x480, and make it a solid color. Then save it to the phone.
Wouldnt it be better to have transparent background instead of black?
Is that possible with android?

Speaking of transparent wallpaper, a few times when trying to apply a wallpaper it wasn't applied due to some error and the background was bare black...really black. How can I duplicate this or have no background?

You'd have to use a .png, and .png with transparency default to black when transparency isn't supported.
So you'd end up with a ...black background.
Just curious what you guys would suggest for changes. I realize everyone is different, but hearing some suggestions would be nice.

The icons I found from this post from XDA. (thank you XDA user mikebeecham)
The background is from AndroidCentral. I typically roll black... always come back to this.
The ROM is Onyx 2.1 via Team Whiskey (leaked 2.2).
The 1x1 weather widget is Beautiful Widgets (I really do not like the 4x2 style).
I only have ONE screen... LP lets you have 15 icons at the bottom, that have swype gestures so there are really 30 apps I can open with nothing on my desktop and not opening the app drawer.
I find myself chocked full of lameness, in the sense that I rarely deviate from stock. About the only areas where I bother to customize is wallpapers and ringtones, though I have a massive collection of both courtesy of Ringdroid and Google image search.
And even there it seems that I tend to think a bit narrowly. Most all of my wallpapers are either artwork of Audrey Kawasaki or Sumi Keiichi.
Currently running TW's Obsidian v2...Heck, even my screen layout and icon positions have become a matter of course. I've kept my screen layout pretty much identical since July regardless of firmware.

I would...but it's actually REALLY A LOT LOL.
Furthermore it's stuff that is too easy to find if you understand how to use Google's Image search. Though wallpapers in our screen's native format are harder to come by (960x800), the aspect ratio of 1280x1024 traditional desktop wallpapers is nearly identical (1.2, compared to 1.25). An app like Wallpaper Set And Save will fit these with no discernible distortion.
In other words, I'm so lazy that I do not break out Irfanview and Gimp to custom resize, I just use backgrounds optimized for the 1280x1024 desktop resolution. Making that one change though opens up a world of millions of wallpapers to those like me who would rather look for new and interesting stuff than spend all day in image editing software resizing things....
Lazy I be.
Makes a lot of sense actually, thanks. Never really understood the point of those apps.

Please replace all the GREEN with BLUE as in your other Gloss theme. Love these teaser pics posted here...pleaese keep going...looking forward to alpha release
Maybe add some AOSP touch? like transparent white notification? and I really liked your gloss blue sense launcher-so maybe use that? Or maybe something with a Slate/espresso style launcher...
Well, this is really thoughtful of you m8,tnx
But what users want is max customization,i.o.w. different options, not just 1 totally re-done (red, for example) theme. The options for the user to choose what he wants from a number of options (like a built in mini-kitchen into the ROM)? would that even be possible.? ...cuz that would be amazing!

Are you using the Stock ROM or a custom one? If you are using a CM6 or CM7 based ROM, go in the cyanogenmod settings -> Performance settings and enable surface dithering. After a reboot, the quality of the display should increase.

The freaking font. No seriously. The default LG font is way too thin and when displayed on a white surface is very uncomfortable to read.
I just installed Roboto font using iFont and I can no longer find any (noticeable) sharpening done on the phone.
This is not placebo. Try it yourself and be amazed! Maybe there's still a sharpening issue, somewhere. But switching the font has mostly cured it for me. Yay.

You're right. Still there. But bolder fonts make the sharpening effect a lot less annoying. I can finally use Press without poking my eyes out.
I can't wait for a fix to come out for this! As a photographer, I see a lot of beginner photographers over sharpening their pictures, giving the same effect. Now MY WHOLE PHONE DOES THIS CONSTANTLY. Just kills me.

It depends on the screen to be honest sometimes I'm shielding my eyes other times like this post can't see it. I am wondering if there is some algorithm running and it adapts constantly.

Yeah it's definitely more noticeable when there's a grey background. Load this page up on your phone.
Also, once I got the effect to pop-in (not sure how, if I come across it again I'll definitely try to reproduce it) so it's gotta be some kind of processing unrelated to the display firmware.
Changing the font to Roboto Condensed using iFont completely solved the text sharpening issue. Even when the test of the screen has halo artifacts, the font looks fine.
As for icons and other issues with oversharpening, they too come and go for me. Sometimes the screen looks amazing, other times everything is super sharpened. I wonder if it has to do with throttling?
It's not everywhere. It'll show up in apps that have bad QHD support. I didn't have any of it in the vast majority of apps I was using, but then I ran into older apps and it suddenly appeared.
