Hi, I have no idea about programming and absolutely clueless about Android devolopement. I have been using x1 before the x10, and there somebody made Android 2.1 which starts off from the SD card. Even if we cannt get the phone rooted can do something like what they have done??
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=622
If I sound like an idiot could the mods delete this thread please.
I believe that the X1 is WM6.5 ?
I don't think that Android and WM Devices have the same methods to root a phone...

I understood that he thinks that it may be possible to put 2.1 on the X10 with the X1 SD card method. And I answered that those 2 phones ave different OS, so for me it's not possible... that's all...
Ask jerpelea. He is a master chef and I saw him on this forum recently. I'm gonna try his x1 eclair port tonight but I'm willing to bet its great (just like everything he's made that I've used)
I thought we might be able RUN Android 2.1 from SD card just like we did in X1. I know that would not be a ROM and probably we would waste RAM too, but we might have the 2.1 anyway. In X1 they had lot of problems with drivers and everything (stuffs I don't understand ) but this is already an ANdroid phone, so drivers shouldn't be the problem (also because we already have the X10 ROM). Moreover we don't even need to map any keyboard, like we had to do in X1, cuz it has no keyboard
Theres no haret on linux..though as root you could have your system or data partition on the sdcard with no problems, just modifying the initrd..
And run windows 95 emulated too

Who is Haret??
just kidding, so I guess the answer is no not possible.
(now is the time for someone to say WAIT THERE MIGHT BE A WAY).
Ok so nobody said "wait a minute ..... we can do this...". Fine I will say it myself.
Wait a minute I think this could be done. See if we put DOSbox (win 3.1) as an app then start the haret from SD. And then we can get even Android 2.2.
So who knows how to do it??

So you are saying to run android 2.x on top of dosbox which is on top of android 1.6?

DosBox to run 2.2 is a BAD idea sorry...
You can maybe boot 2.2 but the performance on dosbox is realy crappy.
Another ting, will the camera work, sound, gps, 3G, mic? +++
And the last thing i think dosbox is only read-only.
Try it and give us feedback. Maybe we can use it GL
Just my 2 cent:
Dosbox would only be needed to START booting linux, so the linux image then shoud run natively. A performance problem should not exist.
On my X1 haret.exe was only used to pass over control to the booting process. afterwards WiMo 6.5 was not running in background, the full ram was handed over to Android/Linux.
So the question should be, if dosbox would prevent haret.exe from initiating the booting process (as the adresses needed are "shielded") ....

Makes alot of sense

To me this all seems to make alot of sense. Dosbox.apk on SD card, Run haret, Boot Android 2.X. No altering of scripts shoould be needed for native android phones correct?
So why would this not work? Should be safe to try atleast and also alot easier than rooting the phone at this point. Am I right?

I just found a alpha version of dosbox for android, the only problem is that it does not support software keyboards. Is there any way to control the phone via a computer so we can try to boot haret?

I found a way to use the keyboard now but it covers up half the screen so im typing blind but it works! Just need to tell dosbox where to find haret now which i dont know how to do yet but im gonna figure it out!

Not to screw your hopes, but dosbox emulates msdos (x86) and therefore nothing compiled for arm is going to work (not winmo or haret)

That when a stable android build is out for the HD2, it will be able ot run on the internal memory with NO windows mobile at all, and not kill the battery? i just wnat to make sure that i will not have to run the build of my sd card for ever.
i just would like all your opinions, cause i don't know weather to be patient and keep my hd2 or get something else...Just wondering what all your thoughts are..and when would you think a stable working full port would be?
thanks gang. Love this forum
Thanks DEVS! Great work on this!
no one??????
To be honest I think you'd be better off just getting an android phone if your looking to completely replace the os.......
You could be waiting a while otherwise.......

Really? that is what i feared...
what (IYHO) would be a "while"?
I wouldnt like to even guess at how long because my knowledge of the whole android thing is very small, its not really something that interests me to be honest......
From what Ive been reading the newer builds are coming on in leaps and bounds but at the end of the day the HD2 is built to be a WM device, android will never run as efficiently and as stable as it would on an android handset....
Of course its going be fun to play around with but I dont think it will ever be able to replace the original os........
It sounds like you'd probably be better off with a desire / evo.........

Well they have been going since March, it's now July and we are on alpha release. A month, two, three...? Who knows.
i wonder how "usable" it will be, and will there ever be a rom that works on the internal memory and not the memory card?

I should think it would be stable and you may well be able to flash it to the internal ROM, or at least have a dual boot option. Personally I have no interest in running Android on my HD2, despite tinkering with it already.
I have my eye on the 'Desire HD'.

I have never tried Android, but I do like WM 6.5.x a lot, but it's well on the way out now. I'll be gunning for an Android phone next I think, and the 'Desire HD' looks like it will fit the bill nicely.
When I was considering the HD2 or the Android, the main reason I chose the HD2 was because of WM6.5. Despite all the bad impression, WM is still fairly stable for me. Furthermore, you can only install apps onto Device Memory using Android. How many programs do you think you can get onto the Device Memory?
I have an 8gb card (standard issue) and I have no qualms installing a program and playing with it for a while, and don't need to worry about memory becoming too low...

Is there a way to use ext2/ext3 sd partition as data because most nand roms doesn't leave us mush room for new apps. Does anyone know?

Agreed, I'm using the Cyanogen NAND and have 657mb free after installing a grip of ****. If you need to used apps2sd hit menu>settings>applications>manage applications> when you click an app it will give you an option to move it to SD if you desire.

that's because you have TMOUS 1024 LEO, 512 mb LEOs are left with less than 60 mb most of the time.

well you are just useless for thread
need help to force the applications to install on sd and when I'm going to move to SD app2sd block
I have found some information in this site:
http://code.google.com/p/android-roms/wiki/A2SD
but i don't know if it can be applied to hd2 android nand.
EDIT..................
really?
take a joke man.
maybe its silly american humor or sarcasm.
no need for name calling.
plus you're using some american pricks build
Can we just stick to the topic please...
Of course this is less of a problem for those with 1024 devices but will be a huge one for those with 512MB.
I use a HTC Desire (which has 'similar' memory specs to the HD2) and trust me a proper implementation of A2SD is/will be required.
From IRC logs:
Curious_ MN_ app2sd works fine
Curious_ i moved app2sd app to sd card
MN_ which rom?
Curious_ cotulla's
Curious_ worked out of box
Maybe this person is asking why some apps don't move to sd , I can move only some small apps to sd for ex I have NFS SHIFT witch I can;t move to sd To bad I hove somebody finds a way moving this sort of apps to sd.
apps you moved via app2sd are still leaving data.. not much but enough for being a problem for hd2 512mb users like me...
A2SD+ would be a perfect solution. mounting another partition to extend the intern ram..

Sorry for bumping this up but...
I swear that I had programs that could be moved on a Froyo version on Milestone but now can't be moved on GB HD2 NAND. Am I missing something here?
i know android works of the sd card but is it possible to cook it as a rom in the devise so that it does not use the sd card to replase WM ore is that technically impossibe
No, for now its not possible. Maybe in the future, when Android is fully ported. Maybe never...

yes it's possible but unfortunatelly the developer who can do this will not do this for us as he retired from Android for Mini development
name for this is NAND build and it deletes WM from phone.
You Can't do that with HTC HD Mini, because it doesn't have enough space, it's about 300MB, Maybe Android's need at least 500MB.

Why need flash Android?
Hi guys,
Just to join the discussion, can someone tell me why some want an Android dedicated HD mini when, if you can double boot, you actually have choice between 2 os (Wm & Android)?
Would flashing Android (if & ever that day comes) make the Photon that much faster?
Or is it something else
Sorry, I just think the dual-boot option is ideal!
cheers,
curiouser

hi guys
just wanted to check:
when our awsome devs finish thier great job with the android, whos gonna change to andoid and whos gonna stick to winmo?
i dont know if this question should be here but i will answer and im sticking to both.....
Android 4 ever!!!
I also choose Android. I can't wait for next relase
I buy Mini less then a year ago, becourse of WinMo (it was more soft for it). But now the situation has changed... So android is more nice for me.
Only, one thing is not good, as for me, in android - there is no such application as RescoPhotoManager in it.
