ADW EX can't run on stock 1.6??? - Streak 5 General

Hey guys,
I bought ADW Ex and tried running it on my stock Rogers Streak (it's rooted but I have not installed any roms yet being that I'm not 100% sure how). Anyhow, when I installed ADW EX it appeared to act normally until I swyped to get to another screen. Then it just multiplied the icons all over the screen to the point where I couldn't properly select the apparently I wanted. I'm not sure if I'm the only one to experience this but I would definitely like to know. I returned it for a refund being that we only have 15 minutes before we can refund it.
Anyone know how I can run it smoothly on 1.6?
Thanks guys

I have adw ex on my streak with 2.2 318 with performance fix.. it works flawlessly. I suggest you upgrade to 2.2 using qdl tool. its so much faster and it supports flash..

I think he's talking about stock 1.6 not Steve's 1.6.
Sent from the Iphone Killer

That's correct. I'm running stock 1.6. I do want to upgrade to Steve's Rom... but I've been instructed that it is currently impossible to return to stock 1.6 for Rogers should I need to return the phone for any repairs... so I'm holding off until that is possible or until stock 2.2 cones out in the Spring (if Rogers holds true to their word).
On the mean time though, I would like to run ADW EX if possible on stock 1.6. Anyone been able to do that?

U.S and 2.1

So is there anyone left who owns a US streak and is waiting for the official 2.1 like me?
Or am i dumb and not understanding why i shouldnt just root it to 2.1? Ha i asked because all of my friends have rooted to 2.1 but ive just been waiting paciently for the official OTA.

Because 1.6 works fine meantime?
There's 1000's of 1.6 users, no least of which are 2.1 updaters who backdated (notice i didn't say downgraded) after deciding that 2.1 was bollox!
If the official release of 2.1 offers no improvements over the beta i wouldn't bother getting to excited. IMO all the 2.1 did was to remove all the good stuff from 1.6 and update the standard browser that i never use anyway!
Okayy cool thankss

And when will 2.2 be available?

Sadly, the latest word from Dell's blogger is "before 2011", which I'm sure translates into "last week of December" unless of course it slips and they claim never to have said 'before 2011".
I'm hoping he just gave a safe window to prevent another release date fiasco. Hopefully it'll much sooner.

I'm still running vanilla and I will do so most likely until a "real" version of 2.x comes out and the chefs manage to build some clean custom ROMs.
I don't need all the latest and greatest crap someone decides to poke into it, just mean and lean and I'll decide what goes in it after.
We all in the same 1.6 boat, waiting for 2.1 and best for 2.2

Yea, Ill wait for the OTA release as well. Actually for what I have been using the Streak for, Kindle for Android, it works very well. After the release, I will decide if I want to use my EVO as a hot spot or go with the alternate sim card for T-Mobil. T-Mobil has better plans than AT&T.
imma have to wait to bc coming from windows mobile i dont understand anything about android
First time user of Android myself (this August), initially was going to wait then realised that, with Dells track record, that could take forever (and yes, 3months is forever in phone world!). So took my Dell 00 unrooted, upgraded to 02 v1.6 then 02 2.1 (all in one go), and still unrooted!
No issues (knock on wood) except the usual, which are regardless of version, i.e phone standby consuming power, slow(er) maps/GPS lock etc, which aren't really problems per-se.

Dell Streak led flash on 1.6

Hey guys,
I have a (Rogers) Dell Streak running 1.6 and for some reason the flash LED doesn't work. I can't even select it. When I try it tells me that the device has no LED flash. Have any of you had a similar issue?
I'm wondering if I'll have to return it due to that. Let me know please.
Cheers
Hi, I have a rogers streak as well I read your post tried the camera and my led flash works. Before you do anything post your software/firmware here or pm me we will compare I'm on 1.6 as well.

Never mind. Noob mistake. I managed to get it working . But while your here I might as well ask. Did you get your Streak rooted? If so which method did you use?
Thanks for your reply

I have not yet done anything with it. I will give it till spring as that is suppose to be the official 2.2 release for Rogers and if its a lie then I will go and root it.
Hey guys ... I bought the streak on New Years eve from Telephone Booth ... I used it on 1.6 for a good 2 to 3 hours ... then rooted it and installed DJ Streak's 2.2 and I was blown away with the performance boost.
I'm a heavy camera user, and it was important that the camera works. And it did.

Which process did you take to root your Streak? And did you go straight from stock 1.6 to DJ Steves' 2.2? Could you please let me know? I want to root my phone but I'm worried about bricking it.

AT&T streak users

hey guys. at&t user here. instead of waiting around for the official OTA update to 2.2 that we've been waiting to see come down the pipes for months with nothing to show for it, i decided to take matters into my own hands. I called up dell and told them my streak was stuck at the boot screen. The nice tech support lady told me run the factory recovery, (i didn't, just keep playing hot pursuit) and i told her there was no change. she immediately set me up for an exchange. So in 3 days (1 day processing, 2 day shipping UPS at no cost to me) i will receive a new streak and hopefully it will come pre-installed with the 2.2 update.
i will let you guys know if my plan works. and if not i'll get a new streak just the same.
and ya i could get 2.2 on there through flashing of 3 different roms but i really don't feel like going through that trouble when they can mail me one with it pre-installed.
cheers
couldnt just do the 2.2 update yourself?
Yeah no ****. Takes all of an hour to flash and reinstall apps. Brilliant

lol... Your not even sure it will be preloaded with 2.2. You'll just be back to square one with waisted time. Why even bother?? Also if it comes with the ATT 2.2, you know you will have all this extra bloatwear hogging up your memory you'll just end up tweakin your streak anyways at the end.

You also may be faced with the issue of it not being "broken". And they might decide to bill you...
Another thing to consider is the fact that you originally ordered an AT&T locked model. They will likely just send another AT&T locked model which I can tell you will still have 1.6 as I just received mine today and it as laden with 1.6.
This tactic is full of assumptions and totally without any precedence that it will work.
Full of Fail.
first of all they send me anew one before i send back my old one. second i don't really feel like wasting time going through the headache of updating a phone's rom 3 times just to get a buggy unofficial version of the rom. i can root the official and get rid of bloatware in a matter of 1 minute. second i get a brand new phone no matter what. no scratches or dings.
i'm not 15 anymore. i have a life and i cant be bothered with doing all these little mods and tweaks and ****. i have a life outside of technology.
umad?
LOL I am not 15, I work 60 hours a week, and play soccer 2 twice a week.
I guess but ur standard I have a lot of time in my hand.
I got the phone 2 weeks ago and run a quadrant test, and wasn't satisfied with it performance. Took me exactly 20 mins to upgrade to did Steve's version. Phone has actually not crashed once yet and its running better than the official 2.2.
How long did the phone call to dell take?

I flashed official 2.2 straight from att 1.6 using QDL. I didnt have to jump thru 3 roms. Your method is good if u just want a new streak I guess, but to get 2.2, seems too much a hassle for me.
Btw ppl who have ordered the unlocked with 2.2 since dec. havent even received theirs yet, id be surprised if they gave u one so soon.

to buy new dell streak, has it some problems after froyo 2.2 update?

i plan to buy dell streak. has it some hardware or software problem after froyo 2.2 update? please give me some advice my friends..... Thanks!
Want advice? If the steak is the phone for you then buy it. If not then just simply return it.
yes. i wants some advice before get it.
yes. i wants some advices before get it.
For me the software running on your streak colours your experience. Many have commented that the streak is an awsome piece of hardware, but second rate software support. Only because I have spent days educating myself and upgrading the streak myself that I now have something I am happy with.
The trick is find out what software the phone you are buying has on it. Stock 1.6 is nothing exciting. I nearly threw my phone at the wall after I put a version of beta software on it during an upgrade. The stock 2.2 is described by many as needing a performance fix. I have steves 1.5.3 running, and am happy with that.

Sure. DJ Steve's does everything that AT&T 2.2 does but it ALSO does:
1. Free Wifi hotspot
2. DJ Steve's is much much much much faster
3. DJ Steve's is Pre-rooted
4. NO AT&T bloatware
5. Better choices for interface
6. Supports continual development for our amazing Streak device
7. I get MUCH faster data connections on DJ Steve (3g on AT&T MUCH slower than H on DJ Steve's - at least for me)
8. Overclocking is possible on DJ Steve's
9. DJ Steve's comes pre-loaded with useful software
10. DJ Steve's version doesn't club baby seals. OK. Maybe I added that one in for effect .

Hi,
This post is just for debate purpose... I was really trying to find any major issues with the stock rom, hence my questions in the second post..
1.Agreed. But dint u expect that ?
2. If u look at benchmarks yes... But in real life use
3. Obviously so !!! Can u direct me to any stock rom that is pre rooted.. Superoneclick works fine.
4. Bloatware ? like ...... I found 3 apps ( may be i am wrong) . But do they affect in anyway u use ur phone ?
5.Interfaces .. Dint get u there
6.If it were not for stock roms , there would never have been any development... ( I must agree however that Dell sucks when it comes to supporting developers.. but better than many )
7. Are u sure.. i have tested and never found any difference .. Steve will agree with me .. The appearance of 3G and H is nothing more than cosmetics. U can change that by editing the build.prop
8. Even steve agrees that overclocking is not good...This is more for test purpose than anything else... Do u think u need to overclock steves ROM... i have not noticed any performance difference, but yes it eats more battery
9. yes it comes...u r right
10. Missed that joke
( (i am regularly testing steves rom and love his work and a great fan of him and most of the time running his rom ) )
So - lets play this game a different way. What is better about the stock ROM? NOTHING and Steve's offers more features, faster speed and more flexibility.
Kudos to AT&T for FINALLY developing the ROm though - even if it is 4 to 5 months late . Maybe some of the code can improve Steve's work!
Maybe a year from now we will see gingerbread. Lmfao!!

1. yes it was expected - but that doesn't make it ok... you cannot argue that its better to not have native tethering... whether its expected or not.
2. have you compared the two in real life? his ARE MUCH faster in real life. There is no such thing as lag with streakdroid roms. The kernel is much better, tweaked more efficiently - it beats stock by a long shot.
3. agree, don't see that as a major selling point
4. again, not a major selling point, get root, remove them. simple as that
5. don't get this either. BUT his skin is much better than froyo, he uses the gingerbread taskbar skin, black task bar (but if your a vanilla foyo fan, may not matter)
6. completely false, steve had 2.2 before there was a stock one. granted he took it from the nexus i believe - but thats basically from source.
7. fards has included data tweaks, it is a bit faster/efficient than stock.
8. pure novelty. but so are live wallpapers, themes, etc -
9. not major selling point but o well.
I'll add a couple others:
- constant innovation. May not be a selling point for some, but is for me.
- battery life. It is better. If its not, you've done something wrong.
- kernel constantly being updated
- previews of future android OS apps, gingerbread theme and task bar, honeycomb music player, etc
Either way, custom roms aren't for everyone. But if people had the option of someone else installing a custom rom for them - I imagine everyone would have them on their phone.
I guess i'll ask this question... what can stock roms do that streakdroid doesnt?
i would have to agree with drgopoos.. i used 318 for a while.. never found myself using the free wifi hotspot anyway.. and my 318 constant had unlocking issues.. no issues that i have found so far in ATT Stock.. been on it for 24 hours..

Not as many FCs on stock. Got them alot on 1.5 through 1.7. I use the phone for business and I can't have calls FCing all the time. If not for that, I would have stayed on Steve's

Never had an FC on Steve's 1.8.0. Got 3 in one day on Stock. I think this depends on a few other factors. For me stock was not as stable as Steve's
Agreed, force closes are the result of so many factors the rom cannot be pinpointed as one. Now, if u factory reset and still get them, id say the rom may have something to do with it. If u think about it, ur taking settings and configurations in one environment and applying them to a new one. Things between different roms are different. I havent seen a case where clearing data or factory resets and clearing caches hasnt fixed force closes on any build.

Bloatware? Oh please. Root an use root explorer to remove what you dont want. Simple. Any dummy can do it if i did
The only issue i have with the att 340 is the 3g speeds.
I do use my phone durring work so i cant have an unstable phone sticking on the dell logo for no reason AND NOT be able to factory reset.
One of the biggest problems for me was getting stuck on dell logo with 318 and not being able to get the phone back without a pc. I had to carry an extra phone with me .... wtf !!!
The list I initially created are ALL issues (with the exception of the last one that was put there to get a laugh ). Some of them are bigger issues than others. Bloatware IS an issue - granted it is not difficult to remedy, but it IS an issue.
I got a REALLY strange crash with AT&T's official 2.2 this morning. I had the xda-developers app open on my phone last night. Plugged the phone in an went to sleep. Got up this AM and the phone had so many errors on it I couldn't "click" them off - I had to battery pull to fix it. During the night I got 2 phone calls and the phone was in vibrate mode. Don't know what caused it. Don't care. First thing I did this AM was re-flash DJ Steve's 1.8.0 using the method I just posted in the DJ Steve Rom thread. AAaahhhhh all better.
I was using steve 1.8 and found that my phone app force closes at times. Does not close all the time.. Many people have seen this happen..
So decided to return to stock...
I need a working phone app
Just a quick update from my perspective...
I tried Steve's 1.7 ROM multiple times, and each time I had GPS/Wifi issues that I could never fix. I ended up installing the AT&T 322 Build (HongKong).
After installing the 322 stock build, everything worked great! Granted, the quadrant score was >900, but everything was reliable and everything worked. The benefit I found with this build is that the portable Wifi hotspot worked. I used it a couple of times, to test, and it worked amazingly so.
Today, I've upgraded to Steve's 1.8 ROM. I have no feedback other than the ROM is much snappier than the 322 ATT Stock ROM. If I have to backtrack, then I'll go back to the 322 build.
It was rock solid and stable.
Fair warning though... You may not be able to upgrade from the AT&T 322 build to the 340 build. I tried and have been unable to do so. After reading the boards, I'm glad that I couldn't, but just be forewarned.
To upgrade to 340 from 322, you will probably have to downgrade to stock ATT 1.6 ROM, and then upgrade again from there.
Just my 2 cents, that's all.
I love my streak!

Only missing the built in tethering
I feel bad for you folks who loses tethering/wifi share in ATT 2.2 upgrade. Up here in Canada, we still have those in our Rogers 2.2 build.
Perhaps it can be installed in your ATT phone ? Just wondering ...
