ok here we are ,jan 12 is here ,and the update is not here , dell and at&t are making fun of us.
It's all at&t at this point. Just waiting on them. Or you could take matters into your own hands and install 2.2 yourself using the qdl tool.

You know what I will call att customer service and ask why I dont have froyo yet and if I get a stupid answer I will flipout over the phone and give them a week or else I will take my business business somewhere else. I think all streak owners should do this and they might stop taking us for granted

I used the qdl-tool to update then used the link and updated again but now when I hit the update button in settings it says turn on wifi when wifi is already on??? I just got the phone a few days ago so I don't know if this normal for the build or something

Funny... if you call AT&T customer service and ask about the 2.2 update, you can actually hear the representative getting that "glassy eyed" blank, "rabbit in the headlights" look when you try to explain what you are looking for. AND then, you can expect to be guided through a long, boring script of "Have you checked the settings.. Have you restarted the device..." and whatnot, only to be told, two hours later that the update is still in production and no actual date has been set for the release for the update.
Better to spend that two hours beating your head against the wall, or poking yourself in the eye with a spoon... It will be less painful, and more amusing for you.
Lol lol still lol ing

I think att and dell should release an official word on the ota update. Btw, if ever, will rooted streaks be affected by the 2.2 upgrade?

Don't hold your breath, AT&T has not released 2.2 for ANY Android device. 2.2 for the Captivate was supposed to launch back in October, and that phone is sold in retail corporate stores unlike the Streak. Just use the QDL method, you'll be glad you did!

"Cheating" is a very nice way of stating it. Personally, I believe that they are felonious bastards that are stealing from us.
Other than apple, anyone waiting on a carrier to release something, is going to be in for a long wait!
Do yourself a favor, read up on the qdl-repair tool, download it, and get the 309?
version of 2.2, then update using the update tool to 318, you'll be glad you did!
The only "glitch" is if you are running the x64 version of windows. I followed the instructions TO THE T, on both my home & laptop x64 win7 and had zero problems updating via qdl.

I called earlier and sent me to Dell who states that the update rollout starts today, but it will get to me when it gets to me... no solid end date... bout to use QDL tonight.

I called both dell and ATT they where very clear. Roll out starts today but it will take time for att to push it OTA.
I will say it like they do:" OTA update starts at the middle of the beginning of mid January, start of first quarter but just before Hell freezes over"
At least u are not a US Galaxy S owner. They promised no froyo upgrade. Bit will gladly sell u a new galaxy s 2.

it seems that across the board, ATT and Dell has been telling people that the rollout is kicking off today.

waiting patiently.
So if that's the story has anyone got the update notice?

I don't understand these statements that it rolled out today, but it will take some time. Does that mean that some AT&T customers will get the update starting today then others will slowly start getting it? If so, why not let everyone get it at the same time?
hey guys. at&t user here. instead of waiting around for the official OTA update to 2.2 that we've been waiting to see come down the pipes for months with nothing to show for it, i decided to take matters into my own hands. I called up dell and told them my streak was stuck at the boot screen. The nice tech support lady told me run the factory recovery, (i didn't, just keep playing hot pursuit) and i told her there was no change. she immediately set me up for an exchange. So in 3 days (1 day processing, 2 day shipping UPS at no cost to me) i will receive a new streak and hopefully it will come pre-installed with the 2.2 update.
i will let you guys know if my plan works. and if not i'll get a new streak just the same.
and ya i could get 2.2 on there through flashing of 3 different roms but i really don't feel like going through that trouble when they can mail me one with it pre-installed.
cheers
couldnt just do the 2.2 update yourself?
Yeah no ****. Takes all of an hour to flash and reinstall apps. Brilliant

lol... Your not even sure it will be preloaded with 2.2. You'll just be back to square one with waisted time. Why even bother?? Also if it comes with the ATT 2.2, you know you will have all this extra bloatwear hogging up your memory you'll just end up tweakin your streak anyways at the end.

You also may be faced with the issue of it not being "broken". And they might decide to bill you...
Another thing to consider is the fact that you originally ordered an AT&T locked model. They will likely just send another AT&T locked model which I can tell you will still have 1.6 as I just received mine today and it as laden with 1.6.
This tactic is full of assumptions and totally without any precedence that it will work.
Full of Fail.
first of all they send me anew one before i send back my old one. second i don't really feel like wasting time going through the headache of updating a phone's rom 3 times just to get a buggy unofficial version of the rom. i can root the official and get rid of bloatware in a matter of 1 minute. second i get a brand new phone no matter what. no scratches or dings.
i'm not 15 anymore. i have a life and i cant be bothered with doing all these little mods and tweaks and ****. i have a life outside of technology.
umad?
LOL I am not 15, I work 60 hours a week, and play soccer 2 twice a week.
I guess but ur standard I have a lot of time in my hand.
I got the phone 2 weeks ago and run a quadrant test, and wasn't satisfied with it performance. Took me exactly 20 mins to upgrade to did Steve's version. Phone has actually not crashed once yet and its running better than the official 2.2.
How long did the phone call to dell take?

Yup. According to the dell website it ships with 2.2 already installed in it. I'll confirm that wednesday when it comes in the mail.
i believe only unlocked devices come with 2.2, all locked devices are still stuck on 1.6 since carriers have yet to release an update for the streak
Last time I was on dells site, just last week, you could order with 2.2 or 1.6 and it is stated that they get 2.2 with ota. There was a slight price difference

the unofficial 2.2 is really good. (streakdroid)
i told myself i was going to wait for at&t no matter what but after about the third or fourth lie/letdown i joined streakdroid. and i did it back when you had to go through the entire process of eu1.6>eu2.1>flash recovery blah blah>and so forth. now its pretty much a 2 step process.
just my sound opinion
Not surprising at all. Those waiting have the opportunity along time ago to take matters into their on hand and get 2.2. FORGET AT&T and all those empty promises. Unleash the power of your Streak and don't get your device held hostage...lol
Yeah I too held out for a while. Now I think back on the doughnut build 1.6 and realize how outdated and bland it was so I gave up and did myself a favor and QDL and I have never looked back. By the time the official 2.2 ATT is released you'll have no choice but to go to a custom Rom because that will be outdated. Streakdroid is the way to go. I'm practically running full Gingerbread now on my Streak and couldn't be happier, Oh wait 1.7.0 is on its way imagine that.

Same here. I had no probs with flashing roms on my Fuze, Tilt and Tilt II... It just seems that there is way too much to do when it comes to flashing android devices.

The hardest part is getting the drivers set up on your computer. Everything else just falls into place. It is very rare to completely brick your Streak, most people just give up on it and return their Streak. And even if you think you have bricked your Streak, the QDL will fix that and at the same time put you on 2.2 Froyo.

Yes i bought my dell streak directly from dell unlocked and it already came loaded with 2.2 froyo on it. but that's not why i want to root my phone. i want to root my phone for other reasons like to have the App2SD feature and also to be able to flash different rom's and themes on it. but like i said i fear the root part with the dell streak all other android devices that ran on HTC phones i never had a problem with. can you guys link me to the easiest tutorial on how to root it with maybe a video guide if avaliable. for some reason i always found it easier to follow a video rather then read something off a page lol. call me crazy but that's the way i am don't ask. by reading the posts on here i've noticed people who go to Theunlockr.com always find themselfs in a boot loop so i dont wanna trust that site with my phone even tho i always turned to that site as far as rooting goes for HTC brand phones that ran android.

What version of 2.2 are you running? Rooting stock Froyo is simple, install the drivers from here and download version 1.5.5 of SuperOneClick from here. MUST BE VERSION 1.5.5 - ALL NEWER VERSIONS I TRIED FAILED TO ROOT.
Once the driver is installed, extract SuperOneClick, run the exe and click root. If rooting fails, you need to fix your drivers. Right click on My Computer and click manage. In Device Manager, under Android Phone, if the device is called Android Composite ADB Interface you need to change the driver.
Right click and select Update Driver, choose install from a specific location and select don't search. On the next screen, uncheck the box to show compatible hardware.
You should be able to see two devices:
Android Composite ADB Interface and;
Android ADB Interface.
You want to select Android ADB Interface and click next. Wait for the drivers to install (takes a few minutes) and attempt to root again with SuperOneClick v1.5.5.
This is how I successfully rooted my Streak running Official 322 build.
I have tried every custom 2.3 rom available, but none of them is stable.
Will we get the official 2.3 rom?

No asian is getting GB update dude.
'em from India and when ask dell ppl they passout
Besides, unlocked Streaks direct from Dell would be the first to get such an update since ROMs for those units don't have to be modified by the carriers to add carrier bloatware before being released.
well... i am not here to defend it. It is a rumor after all... everybody belives in what they want to belive.
2.2.2 stable
Is gingerbread "really" needed?
Yeah, who wouldn't want the latest & greatest OS for our device, but, just for me, 2.2.2 (purchased direct from Dell, unlocked) is smooth as silk.
It came with 1.6, up'd to 2.1, then 2.2.2 and with the script tweak, it's smooth as silk. Does it get 10,000 on the benchmarks? Nope, not hardly, but I can run it for a week at a time, no lock ups, only the once in a while app FC, so I have to ask myself, does it do what it is suppose to do? YES. What benefits would I gain from updating to GB or HC? Probably not much other than some eye candy.
This gadget is my business device 75% of the time and I don't have time to constantly reboot, reinstall, wipe everything out.
I guess I'm among the minority.

Well, if it came from Dell, it will get the update first, which is my entire point. If it comes from a carrier, you have to wait.
You are not alone, p51d..... I bought a Nexus 1 back when they first came out..... After a couple of months, I got REALLY tired of not having pinch-to-zoom in the browser..... so I decided to root it and install a custom ROM that would give me that capability. Although technically the ROM install was successful, the phone's battery life immediately plummeted to about 3-hours (from a full charge). When the lcd started becoming cloudy (probably from overheating due to a half-baked ROM), I sent it back to Google for replacement. 2-weeks later it arrived freight COLLECT, along with a letter from Google saying because it had been modified, the warranty was void. That was a $600 lesson I learned the hard way.
When I read here where people want to change some minor feature and root their Streaks, then run into major problems and expect others to fix it, I just have to smile to myself. I mean is it really worth destroying your phone just to get a fraction of a millisecond faster processor speed?
I bought my Streak factory-unlocked from Dell, and because of my past experience, I would never root it, especially since it's my only phone/pocket-sized link to the outside world. When the warranty expires, I'll probably get something else. But my factory-installed Froyo OS is smooth as silk. It's not lightning fast, but I don't have an extra $550 that I can blow to make it faster LOL

So Streakowner, what you mean is how well the phone functions after it's been rooted (even "correctly" rooted), has NOTHING to do with the ROM installed on it? With all due respect, I beg to differ with you on that point.... please explain further

if you refer to rooting as only having the su and busybox installed then , you are wrong, but if you meant that installing custom ROMs is bad practice , I do agree totally with you, you never know what is inside the complied libwebcore.so for example, can just be anything there, even some nasty code you aren't aware but your bank will insist it was you who ordered that item from Ebay .

I should have clarified that, streakOwner..... my bad ... You are correct...... Rooting alone did not destroy my Nexus...... the culprit, no doubt, was my choice of which ROM to install.... Nonetheless, it did void the warranty...... To borrow an overused phrase, "Other than that, Mrs, Lincoln, how was the play"? LOL

To expand on what he said, the usual modules added from rooting are:
SU
Superuser.apk
Busybox
Sometimes bash.
By themselves they dont do anything, on a rooted system with no root able apps it's functionally the same as not being rooted.
It depends entirely on what apps are doing that requires root permissions to accomplish.
It's like buying a bad battery that will explode. If you dont ever charge it and put it in your phone nothing will happen, it's just a plastic brick until then.
Rooting would be the equivilent to removing the battery cover and installing it vs having it taped shut.
Good analogy, Manii..... Unfortunately, my need to have pinch-to-zoom on my Nexus basically ended up costing me the phone. Had I waited for an update, or installed a different ROM, I maybe could have avoided disaster......
Just from looking around here, it seems the vast majority of custom ROMs are slightly, if not overly, buggy (IMO..... I mean, look at the title of this thread). I had an old HD2 awhile back that I would flash different ROMs to, just for kicks.... but it wasn't my main phone. Prior to that, I unlocked our iPhones (relatively simple), so I thought installing a different ROM on the Nexus couldn't be all that difficult..... The root/ROM install was simple enough, but the real trick with Android is finding a custom ROM that actually works 100%. That's why I took issue with streakOwner's "if you know what you're doing" comment. I should've clarified the Nexus problem was totally ROM-related..... not a "pbk&c" issue (Problem Between Keyboard & Chair) LOL

im running a stock but rooted streak, couldnt be more happy.. only needed root for blocking ads, and to change fonts etc. swtich between this and my infuse..
Hey SpiritCrush..... Not to veer off-topic here, but how do you like your Infuse? T-Mobile is getting the Galaxy S2 on Friday (4.65-inch screen version), and I have a line on my Family Plan that's up for renewal.... so I might consider getting one (I'm going to renew that line anyway).... Not sure I can live with "TouchWiz" though.... Humm.... that one might be worth rooting just to disable TouchWiz (how's that to segway back on topic?)

Co-sign. I run 354 rooted and I never have any problems, and I use this as my only device.

I have tried every custom 2.3 rom available, but none of them is stable.
Will we get the official 2.3 rom?

I also tried every 2.3 rom available, only the simplestreak seems to be an unofficial stable rom, but not "rock solid" as I noticed sometimes it freezes expecially while using ADW launcher.
