Possible UK Realease Date for Android 2.1

These guys are saying Orange & T-Mobile are rolling out 2.1 on the 16th April
I know it's unofficial but certainly coincides with Legend release dates.

Hilariously, they site the XDA Developers forum as their source.

That's Hilarious, When did XDA Forums become creditably supplies of information for the Hero 2.1 release schedule? How many missed dates have people gotten their hopes up for?

Agreed, to be honest I think it's more likely to be early May before they release 2.1, almost tempted to sell the Hero and just buy an unlocked Legend when it's released.

Heh I've given up on trying to educate people on correct spelling and grammar. Too many are of the attitude "well you know what I meant so it doesn't really matter".
My pet hates are of course your/you're and there/their/they're. It would probably take someone less than 5 minutes to get their head around given the correct definition yet incorrect use is rife on the Internet.

My pet hate is the use of the word "loose" when the correct word would be "lose".
For example: "I don't want to loose my settings".
Arghh!!!!

P.S. You could try the Villain 4.0 Beta 2. It seems pretty good and battery life is amazing at the moment for me. It is built from a Legend leak - but does chew up a lot of memory - I suspect that HTC engineers were liberal with memory use because the Legend has a bit more than our Heroes.

There are loads of threads with "possible" 2.1 release dates, and all of them are of less value than a discussion on grammar and spelling. It is especially true of this thread since it is only regurgitating a rumour that started on another thread in these very forums!
Personally, if I were a mod, I'd lock any thread with a purported 2.1 release date because they serve no purpose other than to get peoples dander up when the date inevitably passes with no update!

Ah more info, have no idea if this is any more reliable than anything else.

Not user x and user y are spreading them, companys like engadget are spreading rumours and they have the aura to be close to the manufacturers but aren't ...

Yet when the date was March 26th, no one had them removed.

This forum needs one of those setups where when you starting creating a thread the forum searches for keywords and gives you options of threads that have already been created before creating the thread. Ive seen it done before. They should implement something like that since no one likes to or knows how to use the search feature.

we got 2.1, the only good that can come of this is the brillant dev's here taking the crap sprint dishes out and making something truly awesome. Which is really hard to imagine since DC's current rom is pretty dam on the money, at least for me anyway.

I propose that the next person to post that link be banned.

Ya I would only care from one of these if it was an OFFICAL date from sprint. and then I would just blow it off anyway and continue using my Rom like nothing happened

I think the post is accurate, it does say HTC Hero roll out April 16th FOR Europe though “Nordic/Greek/RUS/UKR/SA” regions. They say it will trickle down to Sprint which will most likely be April 30th which sounds pretty close.

I could've sworn this was a discussion forum about the development of the CDMA Hero. Weird.
I must be lost because these people don't want to know any of the news (which does often include rumors).

His kernel thread was closed due to a lack of source being provided, in order to keep the site compliant with the law. Some jerk took that to mean he was banned or punished or in some way unwelcome at XDA, which is false. The OP deserves a nice temp ban for having such a glaring attitude towards the administrators here at XDA who are doing their best to keep this site running. But, for someone with one post, I can't see that doing any good. Best to just ignore the troll till the admins remove this thread.

That actually seems reasonably fair... Everyone is angry at Acer for doing that, I don't see why Thor should be held to a different standard. Having said that, his kernel was great... I hope he comes back and plays according to the rules.
With any luck this was all a big misunderstanding, and he just hadn't started a GIT yet but was about to, or something like that.

I mean his kernel was up a few days only, you couldnt have given him some more time to explain or something?

We can only guess that PM's were being exchanged over the issue before any action was taken. At least, I HOPE they were. They wouldn't just boot him without talking first, would they?

As I say, let's just hope this was all a big misunderstanding. Thor was asked for his source a few times in that thread, and he never responded to those requests publicly. I don't know what happened behind the scenes though, as you say. Perhaps a mod can clarify?

Of course they would... They ban all the best devs over stupid $h*t. Android is "open source" but now we say he was banned for not including source? Thanks conan keep up the great work...

This isn't anything new even here on XDA, and as far as being legally compliant, show us the cease and desist order, please. In any event that's no cause to get a poster banned and XDA had plenty of occurrences on significantly less open platforms where they didn't ban the poster, but locked the content due to C&Ds.
Thor did significant amounts of work here to get us what we want. Acer and pretty much 100% of corporate industries are limited to what they can do or say because of much greater liability of what they produce. One user/fan/coder posting here not so much liability as none of it is anywhere near official.
So, again please post the C&D

This is crazy about one month ago we didn't have recovery, Then Thor arrived and fixed that he is very important to the development of the a 500, Lets hope this is temporary, Without devs like Thor we get nowhere on our devices, I have seen in the past when devs have fights with mods the devs leave for good. Nexus Prime and ISC

Reading about today seems like there has been some update on the Prime and ISC.

The article from today will be unvieled in Hong Kong on the 19/10/2011.
As we know it is built by sammy, if it is being released then it is a good chance we might be seeing ICS rolling out to our SG2s rather soon.
On a side note, i cant afford it, but how many people here will be getting the prime and selling on there SG2s?

It's ICS as in Ice Cream Sandwich, not ISC..

I think you may have misunderstood my post a little. I never pointed anything directly to him, but to everyone who posts about other phones or OS' in this section that has nothing to do with this device. yes ics will be released for the xoom early 2012 according to motorola but the devs here will have it done before then I'm sure of it

Posts like these irritate the hell out of me. Op is obviously a new poster, they didn't want to go digging for one quick answer so they asked, yes next time maybe they should read the rules or use the search but to go out of your way to make a comment like this even after another poster was kind enough to answer the question is just uncalled for. Not a good way to build a strong community.

There really is no reason to beat on people like this..I understand there is another thread that explains this but not everyone is as savvy as the next person and we are supposed to be a friendly community. All i have to say is lets be civil, everyone is excited to get ICS up and running, it is a huge improvement and will hopefully bring some performance improvements to our Xooms, which we are all here to talk about (all though I think the HC to ICS jump is much less then the GB to ICS) Ok thats all I have to say lets be nice.

I don't see the rush to get ICS on the Xoom... The difference between HC and ICS isn't enough to warrant immediate installation for me. I'll be happy when a dev finally does it, but until then, we still have good old Honeycomb, so let's count our blessings, eh?

For one thing, because it's the latest version of Android, and there may be fixes for things that are broken 'Good old Honeycomb'. We all want to have the latest thing on our devices, and we don't necessarily want to wait on VZW to test and approve it.
For another thing, we want this because it's actually open source, unlike Honeycomb. Since the source code for HC was unavailable, there was only so much the devs could do as far as making a ROM that was as feature rich as what they would like to offer to the community. Having the code laid out bare allows them to do cool stuff that we all benefit from.
Also, that XDA Noob video was awesome.

And let's not get lost in the fact that honeycomb ain't that great.
Saw ICS on workmates mobile today... It's a HUGE step up!
