Froyo released on Epic, Vibrant, can we use this?

Sorry, the title should say LEAKED rather than RELEASED (can a mod edit?). It isn't stable, but I thought perhaps the kernel was all we needed? Just saw it was released for those phones. I figured the Sprint one should be close?

Stop asking, this is prolly the 10th thread started asking about this. It wont be ported, at least not easily. The epic is not gonna work either. The only other sgs phone that might be able to port from would be the one on USCC, but they just got their phone released

No reason to be rude, this is not old news. This just happened in the last 24 hours. The forum didn't suggest any similar topics when I made it. Gah...people can be such douches in here sometimes.

It would be more useful if someone leaked a Verizon build of Froyo for the Fascinate

People get "butthurt", as you so eloquently put it, because there's at least one of these "Omg Froyo got released on another SGS phone" threads posted in development every day. It turns the development forum into a big mess of nonsense that people get tired of looking at.

From what I just looked through there hasn't been any threads about froyo on the epic. You may want to use search before you make posts that aren't accurate, just a thought.

I believe the search he was referring to wasn't that it was "epic specific" but just that there's a post about a froyo galaxy s release all the time and its been answered a hundred times before that no other will work for the fascinate.

Yeah the news just came out that a Custom 2.2 rom was made for vibrant.
Reason why the fascinate will be last is popularity. Anything gsm will be first!

I would've thought that more people had the Fascinate than the others just because it's Verizon and they're the biggest?

Meh... VZW is US (CDMA) only..and they didn't really advertise it.
They were busy pushing the DX and D2...
The other guys work overseas ... and apparently actually wanted to sell them.
(Though VZW did do a BOGO on the fascinates if you were lucky enough to catch it...)

There was a commercial on TV for the Fascinate from Verizon for a little while. But no, they don't really get attention without the Droid badge.
People, about building Froyo ROMs, there's more to it than just the kernel. Yes, given a kernel, something could be cooked up over time, but the only way to do it quickly is to work from the complete source of a fully functional Froyo ROM that's built specifically for the unique hardware in the Fascinate. Our Froyo will be out soon enough, so just be patient and wait please. If these others were just leaked, ours can't be far behind. ;-)

VZW chick was useless today. For grins I started grilling her on my promised 2.2 update "within a month" when I purchased the phone.
"Oh...it's coming, but we don't know how long it will be. Last time Samsung gave us an update we had to send it back to them because it required a complete system wipe...which just wasn't going to fly."
Actually, I was pretty impressed she knew who made the phone now that I think about it. Most VZW critters I've encountered didn't even have that going for them.

are there any mods in this forum? i mean really..someone needs to merge,delete,help, whatever...or how about a sticky with froyo in the title explaining that it doesnt really mater what sgs(usc?) gets it we wont until its either ota or leaked... can this happen? puhlease

If any question is needed in development it should be related to a specific thread and posted within that thread.

Forum mod has asked people specifically to stop posting these threads. When there is any real indication of Froyo coming, it will be posted.

I've read many blogs, twitter feeds, and comments about this. All I've heard is that even though it's still not ready, it's still being tested. It seems as though they're trying to iron out all of the kinks so that every phone gets the update smoothly and that EVERYTHING works. That goes for all Galaxy S phones, and not just the Epic 4G.
However, in my opinion, it seems as though they're taking their damn sweet time. Can't figure out if Samsung has incompetent programmers, management, or both. However, on the bright side, atleast Samsung is letting us know what's up and not COMPLETELY leaving us in the dark. Although, they're not setting a deadline other than "when it's done" nonsense.
In terms of whether or not it's the carrier's problem really isn't correct. I would assume the carriers don't care as long as the phone can comply with certain guidelines (AKA no hot spotting unless you pay for it), then it's good to go.
Remember, even though most of us are salivating for a new upgrade, I'd say most people have no idea that a new one is in the making. If you say all of your friends know about the upcoming upgrade, you have some mighty geeky friends!
My guess is that it should roll out in the next couple of weeks. Hell, they've had since August to work on the damn upgrade. My guess is that Samsung has a crappy programming staff, ****ty management, and limited budget for upgrading phones.
That's my take on the big mess. Here's hoping it comes soon and works as they promised.

If new useless froyo threads popping up in this forum was a drinking game we would all be dead from alcohol poisoning.

Again I will say it. Why isnt there a dedicated sticky that deals with ALL froyo speculation? All of these threads could be merged with it and all speculation could happen inside of it. Where are the mods and what are they doing? I know its not an easy job to do, but it seems like no one is in charge of this forum at all. No sticky linking to the wiki or a basic guide so that noobs can set up their phone easier. No sticky dealing with froyo speculation. Why not just add another moderator if you need the help?

I am thinking you cannot make people stop commenting about something if that is what they want to talk about. Perhaps a sticky at the top of this section of the forum with the official status of froyo 2.2 has or has not been released yet so PLEASE don't ask anymore. We will change the topic of this post the first thing when it is released to let you know it is available.
I am not telling anyone what to do, I am simply trying to offer ideas towards a solution to this problem.

Exactly. Have a sticky where people CAN discuss Froyo speculation, and then any threads that are STILL posted to general can just get merged with that sticky thread or deleted.

Instead of childish responses, why arent these threads just closed. Is there no type of moderation here?

EA04 would mean it was completed 2 days ago. So 3-6 more months of testing and 30-40 more versions and we should have a final release.

There should be another mod in ADDITION to him. I think that is the point.

Sprint will only release Froyo when there are no new xda "when is froyo coming out?" posts for an entire day. Unfortunately, at this rate it may never be released.

Here is hoping they end up including the variants. That said, it was my understanding that the delay in getting Froyo on the Vibrant had as much to do with T-Mobile as with Samsung. If nothing else, an official ICS release with a new kernel for the i9000 could mean better custom ROMs for the variants. Right?

For a couple months now everytime "tmobile or samsung" put out some tweet like "invite your friends to tmobile or what would you like for the holidays..or any number of inane tweets they put out"
I have been working into the retweet with comments along the lines of ;
...give the vibrant gingerbread!..#shameonsamsung #boycottsamsung
invite your friends to tmobile "why so you can screw them like you did the vibrant owners!..give the vibrant gingerbread!..#shameonsamsung #boycottsamsung
Tmobilejohn actually replied back to my friends one...
Any ways the point is to work into the retweets the basics "give vibrant gingerbread".
And if its true that tmobile had more than a passing hand in the decline of gingerbread for the vibrant I will gladdly pay the ETF and tell them where to stuff it!
We need to complain till they cant stand it anymore!

Acer A500 ICS Update available by the end of the month according to ACER PHILIPPINES

Okay.. so according to Acer Philippines they are expecting the release of the Acer Ice Cream Sandwich update by the end of this week, to be exact they are expecting the release of the update by Friday.
I asked them about the Acer a500 update and here is what they said:
"with regards to the ICS update, we are expecting it to be available by Friday, we're waiting updates from Google also. thanks"
Sorry for the picture though, I also inquired about my tablet charger replacement along with my question to them bout the ICS update.

They have no clue what they are saying. Also I cannot find your post on Acer Phillipines wall...?

.... okay..but....
I'm as psyched as the everyone to see ics coming to our cherished a500...but... lets say it shoes up right now. will it be rootable right away? will it have anything beyond cosmetics that will make it worthy? is it going to outperform the tweaked out super tablet that has put my ipad pretty much out to pasture? yes..eventually it will but probably not right away. I think whether the a500 gets ice officially or through community efforts we can't forget that where it is right now is pretty darn good already.

couldnt agree more- The official update will just be full of bloat and poor coding. I'd rather have one I can use now and wait for Ics 4.2 when Google gets its act together. Doods are still working in c so getting rid of bugs takes time.

Honestly can't see why I should protest it. They have a new product. And anybody knows, the trick behind marketing, is to give what the people want in a new product, thus tempting them to buy it, before they push the same updates 1 month later.

Our ICS update, complete with "bling" and "fancy lock-screen" will come soon enough.
And quite honestly, my custom launcher put's the a200's to shame. Why do I need a circular launcher for bookmarks and volume, when I can create 3d frames and launch them at ease?

The "if" has been answered. Yes, they are releasing it. When? They don't know. Honestly, unless by some stroke of luck you talked with someone in their technical development department, they don't have a clue, and anything they say is usually crap.
